Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of this. The humor was just cringy and I kept forcing myself to pick it up
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for providing me with an egalley of this title to read and give an honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
So I didn't know what I was expecting from this book, but it was not this! Fun, sexy, mysterious, tense, and so many other things! It was so much fun to read.
I've read one other Score book and I wasn't a fan. So I was a bit worried about jumping into this one but I'm so glad I gave it a try.
Let me say, do you want a little mystery? Do you want banter? Do you want funny times? Do you want sexy times? Do you want character who just pull you in and hold on to you? THIS IS THAT BOOK!
Riley Thorn is my girl. She's funny, fun, sexy, quirky, and just downright out there. Her and her psychic ability made this book. I love how she tries her hardest to not embrace who she is but must do so in the end to be happy. Her development is fun. I was routing for her the whole time. Solve that puzzle! Embrace yourself! Get the man!
And Nick? What can I say about him. He's confident ,but a little worried he's not. He's cool, but questions himself. He's sexy, but is not sure it's the right thing. I really enjoyed his characters!
Take these two and their crew and you have a fun, hilarious, crazy murder mystery that leads you in all directions and ends up not quite where you thought it might end!
Plus Score has the pacing just right. And the build up is perfect.
If you want fun, mystery, tension, sexy times, and just a lot of freaking fun, pick this one up and give it a try. I'd totally read more stories in this world!
This was very different from the other Lucy Score books that I have read, but I loved it just as much. It was funny with great characters but just much less spice than I'm used to with this writer. Riley Thorn is a great character, and I can't wait to read the next books in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.
This book was adorable! I haven’t found a Lucy Score book I didn’t like and this was no exception. I felt like this was so different from her others that I’ve read but definitely in a good way. It was more murder mystery romance than hallmark-y small town romance!
Now this book is almost 500 pages and I did feel like there were some parts through it where there was just way too much specific information given that wasn’t necessary. I could have skipped whole paragraphs and not missed a single thing about the plot.
All in all though I absolutely loved this book and would highly recommend it to everyone. And I hope there is a second one!!
Another Lucy Score book that did not disappoint! This was such a fun book that kept me laughing the whole time. Thank you Bloom Books and Netgally for the eARC of this re-release.
👍🏼: The characters in this book were amazing! Each character from the friends, family and the neighbors were all unique and brought so much to the story. I thought the banter between Riley and Nick was fun and kept me laughing. There was definitely not as much spice as some of her usual books but it will still just as good!
👎🏼: I felt like this book could have been 1/3 shorter and still been just as good. I struggled to get started with this book but once I was 20% done I couldn’t put it down.
If you are looking for a fun and lighthearted thriller this book is for you! I am excited to read the other books in this series
Lucy Score hits the mark with the first book in the paranormal/mystery series featuring a wonderfully amazing lead and action that will have you invested from the first page to the last!
This book was a riot and a half and fun to read. Don’t miss out and start the journey today in preparation for the 4th Riley Thorn book in July.
Lucy Score does it again with another brilliant novel! Riley Thorne is an unconventional lady, to say it kindly. Through a breezy, lighthearted tone, we meet her when she is certainly down on her luck - divorced, broke, living with a bunch of old folks, and counting down the days until she can quit her job. Oh, and she is apparently clairvoyant. When the neighbor next door ends up murdered and private investigator, Nick, enters into the picture, life suddenly looks very different for Riley! The Dead Guy Next Door is an irresistibly fun novel and learning to deal with the cards you are dealt and putting it all into perspective!
Review is on Goodreads and will be posted to Instagram 3/14!
This was a fun read! I'm a fan of mysteries and romance novels and this was the perfect mashup.
Riley is quirky and relatable and Nick was the perfect counterpart as the "never settle down" MMC.
Throughout most of the book, Riley is trying to forget her psychic abilities and just "be normal" but she has a vision that throws her into a wild murder investigation - and I did not see the end coming.
With the help of PI Nick, her spirit guide/gorgeous man Gabe, and her troupe of elderly neighbors, Riley learned to appreciate her gifts and her decidedly not normal life.
I loved the romance, it felt more real that a lot of books make it. And like I said, the mystery was compelling and I didn't see the murderer coming.
I have found my new favourite silly entertaining feel good read! Lucy Score’s writing never fails to make me laugh out loud, and Riley Thorn is absolutely hilarious. I absolutely loved the murder mystery vibes with a bit steamy romance. I cannot recommend this enough and I’m SO thrilled this is a series! 10/10 ✨
I can't believe I hadn't heard of this series before! So excited to get to read the re-release of this first book in the series. I generally am a big fan of Lucy Score's storytelling, so I ultimately did enjoy this book, but like many of her other books, I think it could honestly be 1/3 shorter than it is. I appreciate the detail in the story and the characters are great, but I always find myself antsy to finish when I've spent so much time reading. All that aside, the story here was very fun and I really liked the main character Riley and her neighbors were great! I did want some more spice in the first 2/3 of the book, but I think Riley and Nick were a great duo. Overall I would recommend if you have the time to commit.
Thank you to Bloom Books and Netgalley for the advanced eArc of this Re-Release.

Riley Thorn and The Dead Guy Next Door is hands down one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. The plot and the one liners are out of this world, but it all works so well. I had the best time reading this! I am a huge Lucy Score fan, but I think she’s almost out done herself (even though this is an earlier book than her most known series).
Riley is a hilarious, sunshiny relatable character who wants to be normal. But what is normal? Nick is a grumpy PI who is not looking to settle down. Then he knocks on Riley’s door, and everything changes (including murder, mayhem, and mystical visions).
Tropes include grumpy x sunshine, he falls first, one bed!
This is the least spicy Lucy Score book I’ve read, and I loved it! If you are looking for a fun murder mystery that will make you laugh out loud, I highly recommend this one!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bloom Books for the ARC!
My thanks to NetGalley for making an eARC of this book available to me.
If you don't like humor in your romances, don't read this book.
If you don't like a bit of mystery in your romances, don't read this book.
If you don't like laugh out loud moments in your romances, don't read this book.
If you don't like a bunch of elderly crazy roommates (and fake relatives), don't read this book.
If you don't like huge, slobbery, rescue dogs, don't read this book.
If you take your romances as realistic and very serious, don't read this book.
Otherwise, I can highly recommend this book as extremely entertaining. You've been warned!
I love Lucy Score novels and this was another win for me. Although it’s not as spicy as some of her other series, it was a page turner. I found this book to be both wildly unbelievable and wildly entertaining.
I’m dying to know what Riley’s middle name is. Guess I’ll have to read the next book in the series.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy.
Fans of Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayor’s Agnes and The Hitman and Darynda Jones’s Charley Davidson series will love this fun, flirty fake fiancée romantic comedy.
Riley Thorn has always dreamed of being the normal one in her admittedly weird and wonderful family, but a psychic vision of her annoying next door neighbor getting shot forces her to try and save his ungrateful butt, throwing Riley into a series of crazy misadventures. And the arms of a hot investigator who doesn’t take no for an answer.
Nick Santiago is happy with his life as a private investigator. He picks his own hours and sleeping partners. He’s a free agent and that’s just how he likes it. Until he meets the sassy, sexy Riley and begins to think he’s met his match. If he can keep her alive long enough to convince her, that is.
This is a fun action/adventure romance filled with characters guaranteed to have you laughing such as the eccentric seniors in Riley’s rooming house, her wild-child parents, or the spiritual guide sent to help her learn how to use her psychic gifts.
I love the witty repartee between Riley and Nick- they’re so cute! There are four books in this series and I can’t wait to jump into #2!
I love love love Lucy Score! This books was hilarious (a little slow at the beginning but once it picked up I was instantly hooked). I enjoyed not only the FMC, Riley but her elderly roommates that she lives with made the story more colorful. MMC , Nick was a good match for Riley and I look forward to the next books in the series to see their relationship develop.
If you like romantic comedy mixed with paranormal/murder mystery- this is a perfect book for you.
Thank you SourceBooks Bloom Books, Lucy Score and of course Netgalley for the opportunity to read this!
thank you to netgalley, lucy score , and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get through this one, I stopped at around the 40 % percent mark. It felt a little too basic and the plot and flow was a mess 😭i know she was a pyschic so it was gonna be a little weird, but apparently that just was not for me and now i know 🤷🏻♀️also the fake dating trope is exhausting so i now know that isn’t for me either 😭this book was definitely a learning experience for me because i recently got back into reading and the last time i read full time i was in middle school, so i’m rediscovering what i like and don’t like. i just have not felt motivated to read this, it was a drag and i felt like crying trying to force myself to finish this not to be dramatic. it was an arc so i felt like i had to finish it but honestly, if i’m procrastinating and dreading a book this much, i shouldn’t force myself to read it. no hate to the author at all because i’ve loved her other stuff. if you like romantic quirky mysteries, this may be for you 🩵
This novel is the definition of "rom-com"! The dynamic/development of characters was the best I have seen in a novel yet. As I was reading this book, each chapter played out like a movie in my head.....I could not put it down! Lucy Score has a way of bringing you in to her stories and making you not want to leave the world she has created between the covers. I highly recommend this book. A great story--with twists, turns, laughs and romance sprinkled throughout. I cannot wait to read the rest in this series!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was such a fun book! I love Lucy Score but for some reason haven't ever dived into this series, and I'm so glad I didn't miss out. I was laughing and kicking my feet the whole time, and would gladly recommend everyone pick this up.
Riley is down on her luck. She's divorced and still paying her newly engaged ex-husaband while living with a house full of senior citizens. Oh, and she has visions, one of her neighbor getting murdered. Soon, she teams up with hot PI Nick to find out who wanted her neighbor dead.
This was a rollicking good time. Here's what I loved.
Riley and Nick. These two were so well matched and hilarious to boot. I loved their dialogue and could see their chemistry from the word go.
The humor. This book was filled with so much humor and outrageous situations. I found myself laughing out loud a few times.
The supernatural aspect. I think this was done really well. You don't get a lot of explanation but you don't really need it! It does give Riley one more layer to her character that you just love.
All in all, this was an outrageously funny romcom!
Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy.
Riley is dealing with her life; she was hosed during her divorce proceedings by her ex, leaving her having to pay him even though he was the one who cheated on her.
She works as a proofreader at a company that is practically hostile 24/7.
And the cherry on top is her living arrangement in a rundown mansion owned by an elderly woman who has numerous other elderly people living there. All under the umbrella that they are related so as to not be considered tenants. Meaning Riley isn't renting, she is staying with her aunt and uncles.
Now picture this...
Riley's area up in the attic area of the house is shared with another tenant. They both have these little places with baby kitchens, a place to sit, and a bed area.
Unfortunately, they share a bathroom out in the connecting hallway of the house. This other guy is not the most user friendly. In other words, he is an ass. He owns a crappy bar, has worse health habits, and is just all-around icky.
