I am familiar with the author and her other works. I was excited for this one as well. I rate this book three stars. I liked the various povs of the book, especially the anonymous. The reveal at the end surprised me because I thought it was one character, but I was wrong. I enjoyed her other works more. Thanks for the read!

I am loving Freida’s books and this one didn’t disappoint.
What happens when six friends go in the woods and soon start dying? Read and you will find out.
Most of the characters were likeable and everyone is blaming everyone else, but who is the culprit? I love seeing if I’m right, I was partially right this time which is the closest I’ve come to guessing these books :)
Many thanks to Netgalley for the chance to read and review this one.

With a title like "One By One," you know I'm gonna buy it. Agatha Christie is my inspiration, and when a serial killer tracks and hunts people who have some mysterious connection, it hits all the right buttons for me. While this Freida McFadden novel is an earlier one, you still see the shining star on her rise. Gather some friends, married couples in which some are cheating and others have secrets, toss in a bad storm, and an anonymous narrator with a grudge, and it's a delight! One by one, they all die, and in true Christie style, someone is behind the scenes manipulating both what the characters and readers see going on. I mostly guessed this one but not in its entirety. I think the author has written stronger books but I'd still recommend this one for the plot alone.

One by One by Freida McFadden is an absorbing psychological thriller about three couples who decide to take a week-long getaway together. A vacation was perfect for Claire Matchett, who is in desperate need of a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A planned week of hiking, hot tubs, and relaxation. It sounded like a dream, but instead, it turned into a deadly nightmare. Claire's minivan breaks down on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. There is no cell service, and the six friends have no choice other than to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. One by one, their friends are mysteriously struck down.
In this story, the point of view alternates between the main character Claire and a chilling "Anonymous" voice. I was left second-guessing who Anonymous was up until the end, and once again, I was fooled by the major plot twist. It was pleasantly surprising how well the ending was wrapped up. I do wish Claire and the other characters held some survival instincts and did not feel so dumb at times, but this book truly makes up for it with its exciting twists and suspense. My eyes were glued to the pages, as they have always been with Freida's thrillers. Her writing style flows incredibly well, leading to a "just one more chapter" mentality. Overall, One by One is a highly recommendable and bingeable read.

First book I’ve read by Freida McFadden. Definitely going to be reading more. I was just going to read a few chapters tonight and ended up reading the whole book. Great story, good characters, couldn’t put it down.

This was a quick enjoyable read. For most of the book I could not understand why these folks would agree to go on vacation for a week together. I did not see the plot twist coming!

Thank you NetGalley, Freida McFadden, and Hollywood Upstairs Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Six friends leave for a week long getaway only to get stuck in the woods on their way to their destination. One by one they start to disappear and the truth is revealed. This book was a fast read! I am not one for camping in the woods and thought this would cause me to lose interest but, it did not disappoint. All of Freida's books have that way of making you think you know whats going to happen and then she goes and completely surprises you at the end!

My favorite part about this book is that it was a quick read. The idea of the kids left at home tugged so hard at my heartstrings, as did the first death. However, I feel the entire book lacked any emotion. It's like the main character was like oh darn, another person died, time to plan to hike for a whole more day (even though that wasn't the original plan). If I'm honest, after 2 hours, even 3 hours of hiking and not finding the destination, I'd turn back around and head back to the car and the main road. Not just keep hiking for days in the wilderness hoping to find something that clearly isn't there. The twists were too far fetched and dramatic, which left the plot very fuzzy.
I had high hopes for this as I love all the rest of the Freida's books, but this one really let me down.

This was a very quick read for me. I ended up listening to the audiobook and flew through it. I did enjoy it, and it was very atmospheric!

Sadly this was a freida mcfadden book i didnt enjoy all that much. I loved all her other ones ive read so far. But this one just didnt make the cut

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
As a devourer of all things Freida McFadden, I would have liked to like this book more than I did. I read every book she writes, and I feel like I come out with about a 50% like to dislike ration. This book, and a lot of others by her, suffer from the same issue which is that she's going too big, to insane with her twists. I think Freida does her best when she keeps it simpler, like The Housemaid for example. That book was great because it was a contained plot that didn't get out of hand.
I liked the number relations, and the suspense of having an Anonymous POV, but this unraveled for me at the end.

I was thrilled to receive this book. I found this book to be highly suspenseful and a good read.
Here's a bit of the synopsis from the publisher:
And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?
But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:
Only one of them will return home alive.
I highly recommend this book if you have enjoyed McFadden's other books. 5 stars

Claire and her husband Noah have hit a low point in their marriage. She is having an affair and in the long run things are looking bleak for them as a couple. Noah doesn’t seem to be aware that his wife is sleeping with his best friend. They are planing a vacation at a hotel near the woods with two other couples. One person in each other couple is a best friend to Claire or Noah. And off they go.
The car breaks down and the six would be vacationers find themselves totally lost in the woods, with not enough food, lack of water, a faulty compass a map that has them walking in circles, and cell phones that go dead. Eerie sounds compound the well described creepy scene. And then, one by one, the group of friends is being picked off. But why? By whom or what?
Yes, there is some repetition and some discrepancies in detail. Yet, I became hooked on this fast moving plot, narrated by Clair and another person who remains anonymous until the end. There is no lack of action or horror as the story unfolds with a few twists and turns, some surprising, some not as much. It’s a good diversion and a very quick read. Four stars for an entertaining book that never aspired to be more than that. Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC in exchange for my review.

The story felt quite overloaded with unnecessary details and plotlines across its 270 pages.
It was a quick read, but unfortunately, it faded from memory just as swiftly.
The predictable and at times absurd twists didn't quite engage me. Honestly, I was relieved when I reached the end of the book.
While I usually enjoy the author's works, 'One by One' left me disappointed this time.
The rushed ending might be attributed to the limited page count, but it didn't really enhance the overall impression.
It's a pity, as there seemed to be more potential that could have been explored.
Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me the review copy!

Another great one by Freida. Was definitely a different vibe than her other books but still a very fast paced page turner. I'd love to see more thriller/murder mysteries from her in this style

So Freida McFadden is my latest auto buy author.Probably everybody's auto buy author.
This book was very fast paced and surprisingly very short.
I finished it one sitting like all the other books by her.
Her every story is different from the next.
You think you know what happened but you are always wrong.
Go read her books. You will thank me later.

Usually I find these books very predictable, and while this one wasn't amazing, I at least didn't guess the plot twist this time. However, it is hard to root for any of the characters because they're all terrible people and not even in a fun way. I will still pick up her books when I need a quick read.

This one was super fast-paced and twisty! I swear all of Freida’s books just hook you from the very beginning and keep you guessing until the very end. I thought I had this one figured out multiple times throughout but I was wrong each time!

The ending of this book was perfection. Everytime I thought I knew who anonymous was something happened and changed my mind. The plot twist was superb and never saw it playing out like it did! This was once again a fast paced read and a fantastic thriller!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
I usually can figure out the plot or the "who done it" before the book ends, or at least have a clue on who it might be, Freida McFadden has proved me wrong. She gets me every time. One by One is no exception, 3 couples set out on a trip. stained martial relationships. so 6 days away in a mountain retreat what could go wrong? everything They get stranded with no cell service and lost in the woods, this book is so fast paced I couldn't put it down I finished it in one day! I really had absolutely no idea it would turn out how it did!
