McFadden never disappoints. Her books are quick reads, keep you entertained and provide tons of twists and turns.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The author did a good job of keeping me guessing to the very end. I was expecting something more gruesome but was disappointed to come to just a "regular" murder. I was surprised about the villain but the crime did not fit the expectation. I can't say much about my thoughts without giving away spoilers.
The pace of the book was a mix. A moments it moved fast but other times it was like let's get moving on this. There was no edge of the seat timing though because of the slower pace so it is hard to call it a "thriller". Plus it was getting a bit tiresome reading about the same points over and over such as how attractive Warner is and how much Claire loved her children.
A positive is the shorter book which leads you to a conclusion much faster.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Freida captivates me with another gripping thriller! Three couples head out on a week-long, kid-free getaway to a Colorado resort. On the way to their destination, their minivan breaks down leaving them stranded in the woods. After making the decision to hike to the resort, things take a turn for the worst. One by one, members of the group are killed off. Are they being hunted or is this part of surviving in the wilderness? A quick read with lots of twists!

I enjoyed this book and how the author made me question all of the characters-there was no one I could trust. I loved the dual POVs, the pacing, the twists and turns, and amount of suspense throughout. Super fun and addictive!

Not one of my most favourite McFadden books- i found it was very repetitive and i didn't really gel with the characters. I found it very slow to begin with and struggled to pick it up to read. It was quite clumsy with some obvious errors and inconsistences as well.

I received an advanced copy of One by One and really enjoyed the mysteriousness of the story and just when you think you have it figured out Frieda continues to twist and turn the story! AA great read!!

I have never so quickly whipped through a book that I was not enjoying. I will never understand how McFadden’s books draw me in so deeply and quickly or what about her writing keeps me glued to it. For some reason, that was still the case even as I was consciously aware that this book felt extremely cliched.
Claire is headed to a weekend getaway with her husband and two other couples. When their car breaks down in the woods, they decide they’ll walk the rest of the way to their accommodations, it should only be a couple of miles. Instead of an easy walk though, the group finds themselves hopelessly lost and slowly people begin to die or disappear.
I felt like I was right there with the group walking in circles in the woods because this book took so long to get anywhere. I didn’t feel like there were any hints about the context of why this was happening to them, it was just the group increasingly getting scared and walking around more and Claire thinking she can reconcile with her husband as he does borderline nice things for her.
Usually, McFadden’s books have a crazy twist that I love and that gets me fired up rethinking the entire book. This one just felt flat. There are excerpts throughout the book from ‘anonymous’ that I knew were going to tie in, but when their identity was ultimately revealed it didn’t really make sense to me.
This was somehow still a thriller I read in just a couple days and wanted to find out the ending to, but would recommend any of McFadden’s other books above this one.

There is not a Freida McFadden book that I read and I did not love! At this point I don't think this is possible! I was immediately invested in the story and couldn't read fast enough. She knows how to plot and deliver the story. The characters unfold bit by bit, and OF COURSE I was surprised by the twist in the ending. I didn't see that one coming!

3.5 stars but rounding up to 4. Super quick read by Frieda McFadden filled with unexpected twists and turns like usual. Six friends go on vacation and once they get lost in the woods, one by one people start disappearing and the survivors start finding blood- lots of it. I was constantly trying to guess whodunnit but to no avail.

Thank you to NetGalley, Frieda McFadden, and Hollywood Upstairs Press for this ARC!
I was in the mood for a quick and easy thriller and Frieda McFadden is my go-to! She has so many options and I really liked some of her other books. This book went by like lightning. Sooooo so fast! The chapters are short and there’s not too much detail so the plot really does not drag.
I enjoyed the book, but it was not my favorite of her stories! I was not very invested and it didn’t excite me. It was okay. I would recommend this book for someone who wants an easy quick thriller. I am looking forward to her next release!

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC! "One by One" by Freida McFadden is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. Set in a remote mountain lodge, the story unfolds as a group of colleagues gathers for a corporate retreat, only to find themselves trapped by a snowstorm. Tensions rise as members of the group begin to die one by one, and suspicion mounts among the survivors.
McFadden's writing is sharp and atmospheric, creating a chilling sense of isolation and fear. The characters are well-developed, each with their own motives and secrets, making it difficult for the reader to pinpoint the killer until the very end. The plot is tightly woven with twists and turns that keep the suspense building throughout.
With its claustrophobic setting, complex characters, and relentless pace, "One by One" is a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers and anyone who enjoys a compelling whodunit that keeps them guessing until the final page. McFadden delivers a suspenseful and satisfying read that will leave readers eager for more.

I love a good vacation gone wrong-- & that's exactly what this is.
What's supposed to be a kid-free vaycay with a few couples at beautiful & cozy resort turns into a nightmare in the woods when their car breaks down.
With no cell service, barely any food & water, the couples set off to find the resort on foot. Just like the title says, one by one they start to die or go missing.
This was entertaining & I liked it a lot-- but some things did bug me. First of all, if your best friend is found dead, covered in blood, & you just move on like nothing happened-- that's weird. I feel like emotions just didn't match what was actually going on.

Thank you to Freida McFadden, Poisoned Press Publishing, and NetGallery for the advanced copy of republished One by One!
Freida is an instant buy author for me. I have yet to read a book of hers that I feel did not top the last. This one is absolutely no exception to the rule.
Although this is in the "psychological thriller" category, I would also include it in the horror genre. Goodness gracious. The setting is terrifying. I have never been camping and I do not ever plan on going camping after reading this one.
As usual, McFadden's premise for the book was terrific and horrific. Imagine you're on a camping trip with your friends... and they each start to go missing... and the ones that don't are all turning on each other for the blame... and you're just stuck in the middle? NO THANKS!
The dual POV in this book is great. I feel that it made the reveal so much more shocking and impactful. Again, as usual with McFadden books, I didn't realize the reveal until it smacked me in the face. Which is amazing as someone who reads a ton of psychological thriller.

I absolutely love Freida’s writing! I have been into psychological thrillers lately and she has so many books that fit this category.
I finished the first 2 Housemaid books and was looking for something else to read and this popped up. I’m glad I chose it, it definitely kept me on my toes throughout the book. I kept changing my mind about who the bad person was because something would happen and make you think differently. I love these kind of books where I’m guessing til the end. It makes them more interesting and much more exciting!
***Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an ARC copy***

A group of friends’ supposed relaxing getaway to a luxurious cabin in the woods turns deadly after their mini-van breaks down in the middle of the woods. They’re struck down one by one and they don’t know if the hunter is a wild animal or one of them.
I’m always excited when I get an ARC written by Freida McFadden, I love her other books so much. This one though was so-so for me. I wasn’t rooting for any of the morally gray characters, and though it was an easy read, the plot twist was too unbelievable for me to suspend my disbelief. Loved how she slowly revealed the backstory though, it was eery and kept you guessing who the killer was until the very end.

*One by One* is a psychological thriller with a promising premise that delivers mixed results, earning it a three-star rating. The story centers around a group trapped together, disappearing one by one, which creates a suspenseful atmosphere filled with paranoia. Frieda McFadden excels in building tension and keeping the reader guessing.
However, the character development and plot twists can be uneven, with some parts feeling predictable or forced, affecting the pacing and overall engagement. Despite these issues, McFadden's writing is clear and the setting is effectively eerie, providing a decently engaging read.
This book is best suited for those who enjoy psychological thrillers with a classic mystery element and are looking for a quick suspenseful read, despite some narrative shortcomings.

I must read every book by Freida! Could not put this down. 3 couples travel together and they start disappearing one by one. They get lost in the woods. I did not see the end coming!

What starts off as a a couples getaway week, instantly turns bad when the crew ends up lost in the woods. While things were complicated to begin with, they quickly make a turn for the worst as someone or something seems to be picking them off one by one...
Claire was.... not particularly likable, but sometimes those characters are necessary. I DID like how the POV flipped between Claire and "Anonymous" giving us all the information we need from the beginning without actually spoiling the twist. I was on the lookout for how it was going to play out the entire time, and I was still pretty shocked when it came to light.

Couldn't put this book down! Read it in one sitting and thought I had everything figured out. As per usual Freida gets us all in the epilogue.
This book is thrilling all the way to the end! Thank you so much NetGalley for this ARC.

I feel like I always have the same thoughts after reading this author's book. The premise sounds intriguing and I always stay until the end for the final reveal, but the road there is bumpy. The writing style feels unrefined, the characters are all terrible and make awful decisions, dialogue was not rational, and overall felt messy. I think this could've been better as the storyline was engaging and creepy, but needed so much more editing. For example, the reason behind the villain's murder spree in this one feels so weak and out of pocket. Then the anonymous flashback scenes? Felt like two separate books altogether. I'm giving an extra star because I was interested enough to stay until the end, but I can admit I was powering through.
