Woah, I did NOT see that coming! I have thought I figured out the twist very early on for every Freida McFadden book I’ve read and I have been WRONG every single time. You’d think I would stop trying to guess the twist by this point, but here we are! One by One is the story of a group of friends set for a relaxing vacation only to have their car break down in the middle of nowhere and end up lost in the woods. Everyone in the group seems to have something to hide. One by one, the group’s numbers start to diminish and no one knows who they can trust.
Weather you’re a seasoned Frieda McFadden reader like me or you’re just reading one of her books for the first time, you will not be disappointed.

The premise is classic yet gripping—a group of people stranded in a remote location, only to start disappearing one by one. What makes this book stand out is McFadden’s ability to create a suffocating sense of paranoia. Every character seems suspicious, and just when you think you have it figured out, she throws in another twist.

The pacing is relentless, with short, punchy chapters that make it hard to put down. The protagonist, Claire, is relatable, and her growing anxiety is palpable as the situation spirals out of control. While some of the characters feel a bit one-dimensional, the story’s sheer unpredictability more than makes up for it. The ending, in true McFadden fashion, delivers a shocking twist that I didn’t see coming.

I'm usually always up for a FMF book - they're typically fun, quick reads that give me a giggle or ignite some curiosity in the 'whodunit' but THIS book...it was not my favorite. It started off ok but then laid down an unbelievable storyline filled with more holes than swiss cheese. The characters were equally as lame; Claire only served to get on my nerves with her wishy-washy emotions. I listened on audio and only finished it because I was hoping it would improve. #netgalley #arc #freidamcfadden #hollywoodupstairspress

One by One by Freida McFadden is a classic locked-room thriller with McFadden’s signature blend of sharp twists, unreliable characters, and dark humor. Set in an isolated location with a cast of strangers, the suspense builds quickly as secrets unravel and the body count rises.

The short chapters and snappy writing make it an absolute page-turner, with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. While some twists might feel a bit over-the-top, the sheer entertainment factor makes up for it.

4 stars — a fun, fast-paced thriller perfect for fans of closed-circle mysteries and jaw-dropping twists.

This was such a good book! I normally don't like the "whondunit" trope, but this was done really well.

I loved this book it was so interesting and super fast paced I think I finished it in like 4 hours maybe. I kept guessing over and over what I thought was the plot twist and trying to figure out what was going to happen but I kept being wrong I got part of the twist but not the whole thing. Which is something I really enjoy about Freida’s books they are always fast paced and there’s always a good plot twist. She just doesn’t disappoint I really enjoyed this one!

Quite disappointed in this one as I enjoy Freida's books usually. I disliked the characters from the get go and story seemed tired. I've read similar in the past. Not what I expected from this author. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Another classic McFadden book. Not my favorite, not her best, but still hit good.

I am glad I read this one after I spent time travelling around remote Tasmania enjoying some hiking and chilling out a cabin with friends!

Freida McFadden has done it again... lots of twists and turns some predictable and others kept me guessing. And that ending.....
This is one of my favourite Freida books so far.

I'm not going to say anymore... just clear your afternoon and read this book!

I am a huge fan of Freida McFadden's books! I was so excited to receive an ARC for this book! Her books are always pure entertainment and keep me on the edge of my seat. This is a writer who loves shocking her readers. If you like suspense, this is a twisted domestic thriller. A "lost in the woods" thriller where the people keep disappearing one by one. It has you guessing through the entire book. So many twisted secrets and surprises. I enjoyed it immensely and have recommended it to everyone.

I enjoyed “One by One” by Freida McFadden. I am a longtime fan of this author, and this book was a great addition. Based on an ill-fated weekend retreat for three couples, we quickly surmise that it will not go smoothly. Claire and her husbands marriage is in trouble, and this weekend away is just what she needs - no work, no kids and her husband in a separate room. As the friends set out they are quickly put off schedule when their van breaks down. A series of events unfold as they make their way through the wilderness on foot… terrifying and with unexpected turns, something is picking them off one by one. Thank you for the ARC. I highly recommend this book, all opinions are my own.

This is a typical McFadden! You get invested in the characters and you know there is a twist, and just when you think you have it figured out - she proves you wrong! Great story of wilderness survival and friendships and how those may not be what they seem. It was a book you need to have time to read because you won't want to put it down.

Fast read, well paced unlikable characters did not enjoy the ending trite and predictable. Not a fan of this book at all. The characters are very one dimensional and unbelievable.

A twisty thriller that takes place in the woods when six people get stranded on their way to a remote inn for a weeklong vacation. While none of the characters were particularly likable, there were plenty of twists and turns throughout that kept me engaged and turning each page wanting to know more. Overall a dark, creepy, fun read. Thank you for the ARC.
