I am a big Freida McFadden fan, but unfortunately this was my least favorite book of hers that I have read. I did not predict all of the twists, but some of them were predictable to me. I also did not love that the ending was left open handed. I will still continue to read Freida McFadden books though!

Another exciting and fast paced thriller from Freida! I hadn’t read this one yet, so was glad to read it now when it’s being rereleased.
Oh my gosh this was good. I always finish Freida’s books in one sitting, and this was no different. This one MIGHT just be my new favorite, though. I love the ‘lost in the woods’ trope especially paired with the ‘something is after us’ trope. So this was an excellent book for me.
We follow Claire and her husband, along with some friends, who are planning a vacation at a hotel. Claire’s daughter doesn’t want her to go and is talking about a nightmare with a ‘monster eating her in the forest’, so this sets a very unsettling scene from the beginning. The car breaks down on a back road in the middle of the woods and with no cell signal, they’re dependent on a printed map and a compass. The title is perfect because one by one really bad things start happening.
If you’re a thriller fan I cannot recommend this enough! Freida is one of my favorite authors so I’ll definitely be reading whatever else she writes. Thank you so much to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC! Definitely 5 stars from me!

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC!
Claire goes on a trip in the woods with her husband and 4 of their friends. Claire’s marriage hasn’t been the best lately so the whole car ride up to their cabin is very tense. It gets even worse when Claire’s mini van breaks down and no one in the group has cell service. With no choice, the friends have to hike the rest of the way to their destination. With only a compass, map, a bottle of water and some beef jerky. Good thing they’re only a few miles out.
The friends realize they may have overestimated their navigation abilities as they get more and more lost. Not only are they lost but soon into their hike, their friends start mysteriously vanishing. Claire starts questioning everything. Is the compass broken? Is the map wrong? Why does it feel like they’re going in circles? And who or what is hunting her friends? Is it one of them?
Of course with every Freida book comes a good ole unexpected plot twist👀
I really enjoyed reading this book! It was a fast paced, whodunnit, thriller! The plot was intriguing and it had me questioning every character.

Thank You #NetGalley for a copy of this book!
I was very confused at the start but as the plot continued more pieces fell into place! It kept me wanting more and to continue reading. Very interesting twists and turns. For sure an easy summer pool side thriller. Perfect for any vacation.

I loved this one! It had me guessing up until the end! I did guess one of the twists, but the other one was not expected! Love me a good FM thriller!

A break from her daily mundane life is something that Claire wants. Tired and exhausted, she plans a weeklong trip to a cozy cabin with her friends and husband. But, while packing for the trip, she realizes that over the years, she has started to hate her husband Noah. She feels this trip will be their last where he will end everything between them. Along with Claire and Noah, there are two more couples who are joining them. Both couples are family friends. In the end everything is done and the trip starts. But in a way, you can feel the animosity in the air between Noah and Claire.
A roadblock comes, when suddenly their minivan stops in the middle of the road. Since they have a map, they decide to walk the rest of the way to the inn. And the adventure starts for them. With limited supply of food and water, they start their journey. After hours of walking, they realize that they are moving in rounds. Also, since Claire and her friend Lindsay are hungry, Lindsay grabs some raspberries on the way. Claire avoids them, as she feels they can be poisonous. But Lindsay doesn’t listen. After eating they continue the walk and Lindsay starts behaving weirdly. She collapses and dies on the spot. Claire goes into shock and is inconsolable. In the end, they leave the body and continue the journey.
But it seems like, the air has changed and now everybody is more alert. On top of this, one more person goes missing and …
Well, read the book to find out what happens next…
One By One written by Freida McFadden is a psychological thriller that keeps you hooked from the first page. The story is engaging and mysterious at the same time. As a reader you want to know what happens next. The characters are all well written and you as a reader can sympathize with each character. In all, it is an amazing thriller, which shouldn’t be missed by fans of Freida McFadden.

I liked the premise of the book. I was interested in the beginning, but at some point I got a bit bored in the middle of the book. I also didn’t like how the characters weren’t connected with one another and instead of talking they resorted to other ways of coping that I didn’t like. 😒
The plot twist got me though, I had other thoughts throughout the book, changing with every page but still didn’t guess it😂
I didn’t like the open ending but still enjoyed the story.

Claire’s marriage is in trouble and she is filing for divorce after this trip. She has even booked separate rooms on this last trip with their friends. Claire is having an affair with Jack who happens to be her husband Noah’s best friend. And Jack is also on this trip. The trip was doomed from the start but before they reach their destination, things really start to fall apart. The car breaks down, they get lost in the woods and then the real danger kicks in as they start disappearing one by one.
Freida McFadden’s books are a guilty pleasure. This one is no different. The writing is campy, the plot is flawed and the characters made dumb decision after dumb decision….but I just can’t stop reading! I always get drawn into the madness! So 4 stars!

This one had me guessing right up until the very end and even then I didn’t have it quite right! Frieda always delivers a delectable little thriller snack that is great for readers of all types.

One by One, written by Freida McFadden is a republished thriller featuring Claire as the main character. Her, her husband Noah, and four friends are going on a trip that she greatly needs. Her marriage is falling apart, and she is mostly looking forward to spending time with her friends Jake and Lindsay. But her daughter is very worried about her getting hurt on this trip, and after a rocky start, this reader wonders if maybe Claire should have listened to her daughter a little more.
I love this author, and really enjoyed this book. It kept me guessing until the end. Definitely recommend! Thank you to NetGalley and to the author and publisher of this book for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

One by One is another twisty tale written by Freida McFadden. I’ve read several books written by McFadden and enjoyed them all.

I received this as an arc and it was my first book by Frieda and I’ve heard a lot of positive things about her books.
This book was very fast paced and I couldn’t put it down as the suspense of who anonymous was kept on building up.
I loveee the plot twist towards the end when I found out who anonymous was and how through that perspective built up context and tension.
Thank you NetGalley!

This quick suspense story unfolds with a steady pace that initially starts slow. The narrative alternates between Claire's point of view and an anonymous character's. When Claire's minivan breaks down on a deserted dirt road. Without cell reception, the group of 6 is forced to hike to their hotel.
Soon, they become lost in the woods, and as they venture deeper, group members begin to fall mysteriously.
One by one, they face their fate... The book is filled with numerous twists and turns that shocked me in the end! It was an engaging, fast-paced read that kept me on edge.

Apart from the ending i didn’t find it interesting, which is sad as i heave heard great things about her. I hadn’t read any of her books before so my expectations weren’t high but I can’t help but feel bummed out.

Like all of Freida McFadden, this one is fast-paced and fun to get through. Lots of twists and suspense. Some of it was a little unbelievable but overall it was very entertaining and I will continue to read books by FM.
Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

This is by far my least favorite Freida McFadden book that I have read to date. It was highly disappointing and the only reason I finished it was because it wasn’t very long and I flew through it.
I felt the MC Claire was not a good person. She hated her husband and it wasn’t cute to me the way she spoke about it as the narrator.
Also when people start to drop like flies in their group no one really had a big enough reaction for me to think they cared. If my bestie died in the woods and I had to leave her body behind I would be wayyyyy more dramatic about it than just like “ok let’s keep moving”.

Loved the twists and turns in this one. Kept me guessing as the story played out. Would have loved a little more background on our killers in the end.

Thank you to the Freida McFadden and the publisher for allowing me to read an arc of this novel!
I’d rate One by One 4.5/5 ⭐️
So far this is the second Freida McFadden novel I’ve read and OMG they keep getting better and better. She is becoming one of my favourite authors! Every time I think I have the plot figured out, I’m proven wrong, and it’s never what I would expect (in a good way). The plot for One by One is so well thought out, and I really enjoyed the characters and their backstory. Noah and Claire are my fav 🥲

Freida McFadden’s “One by One” is a gripping and expertly crafted psychological thriller that showcases the author’s talent for creating intense, edge-of-your-seat narratives. From the very beginning, McFadden hooks readers with a chilling premise and a plot that unfolds with relentless suspense.
The story follows a group of strangers who find themselves trapped in a remote cabin during a snowstorm, only to realize that a killer is among them. McFadden’s skillful character development ensures that each member of the group is distinct and multi-dimensional, adding depth to the story and making the unfolding mystery all the more compelling.
McFadden’s pacing is impeccable, with each chapter ending on a note of heightened tension that propels the reader forward. The claustrophobic setting of the isolated cabin enhances the sense of dread, creating an atmosphere that is both suffocating and thrilling. As the body count rises, McFadden deftly weaves in clues and red herrings, keeping readers guessing until the very last page.
What sets “One by One” apart is McFadden’s ability to balance the psychological intricacies of her characters with a fast-paced, action-packed plot. The interplay between the characters’ fears, suspicions, and survival instincts is masterfully done, making for a read that is as psychologically engaging as it is thrilling.
“One by One” is a testament to Freida McFadden’s prowess as a writer of psychological thrillers. With its intricate plot, well-drawn characters, and unrelenting suspense, this novel is a must-read for fans of the genre. McFadden delivers a story that is both intellectually stimulating and viscerally exciting, ensuring that readers will be thinking about it long after they’ve turned the final page.

4.9 stars!!! Wow what a twist. Freida is a master at withholding just the right amount of information throughout her stories. At first I thought, great we’re going to be stuck in the woods in the same situation forever. And then slowly and subtly with the perfect pacing does she reveal all the twists and turns. I kept going back and forth about who I trusted in this book and was not disappointed. I marked off .1 star just because I feel like the very very end wasn’t needed. But an amazing ride nonetheless!
