Another book read from Freida McFadden! She is a top thriller author for me - I love reading and listening to her books/audiobooks! This is my 6th book I’ve read by her now.
I enjoyed this one. If you loved Lucy Foley’s The Hunting Party (or any of her books) I think you’ll like the set up of this story!
A getaway for friends who are all bringing their significant others, minivan breaks down and of course… no cell reception. The characters must navigate the unknown woods to get to the location and unfortunate circumstances occur time and time again. Bad luck? Or is something more sinister going on?
The Anonymous POV chapters were the main highlight for me. I found myself waiting for another story from them to come, it gave complexity and further interest in the storyline. Of course, the ending was great and right when I thought it would be all wrapped up in a nice bow - another twist came (in McFadden FASHION)!
I enjoyed the book and would recommend.
Thanks Poisoned Pen Press for the eARC!

I am such a Freida McFadden girly. I just know I’m gonna pick it up, be sucked in, and finish it in one sitting. This was the perfect airport read!
I sometimes think the friends going on vacation and slowly getting killed off one by one (lol, see what I did there) can be pretty overdone but this really had me guessing. It had so many backstories and side plots going on you weren’t just wondering who done it. I loved the we got to flip flop between two POV’s of our FMC and “anonymous” It definitely kept me guessing and was a ton of fun. Lost a star for me just because this has been done before and it’s not really top 3 Freida McFadden books.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: If you want a fun easy beach read that you don’t have to put too much effort into getting into, this is perfection.

This book was a fun, quick, and exciting read!! Six friends go on a trip, but on the way, in the middle of nowhere, the car dies and they lose cell reception. Then the madness begins!! It was very suspenseful and kept me guessing up until the end!

A great read for any thriller lover, not as good as some of Freida McFadden larger named books, but still worth a read.

Claire and a group of her friends make plans to vacation at a cabin retreat in the forest. On the way Claire's van breaks down and since they are supposed to close to the cabin they decide to walk the short distance. By the time evening sets in the group begins to realize they are lost . Soon people start to disappear one by one and the question is who's next and who can she trust.
A story filled with lots of twists and turns leaving you wondering what's going on. I read this book in one day and enjoyed every minute. Thanks to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy of this suspense filled book. A must read for lots of chills.

I enjoyed One by One. This story is about a group of friends that goes camping in the woods and they start to disappear one by one. I am a big fan of Frieda McFadden and I always love how she keeps me guessing until the final page. Throughout the whole book I was trying to figure out the twist, and didn’t see it coming. That’s the best book feeling.

Thank you NetGalley for a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This short thriller is centred around an unhappy, morally grey female who is cheating on her husband, keeping secrets from her friends and generally is an awful everything other than mother.
This makes for an interesting main character as the reader does not necessarily wish for her to be the last person of the 6 standing.
There were a lot of predictable moments in the book, however the final twist was very unexpected. The book is very typical of the genre and followed many of the expected tropes.
Only lost one star as I know I would never go back and reread.

Frieda never fails to disappoint! I could NOT put this one down. The suspense had me on the edge of my seat, and the twists gave me whiplash. Such a fun read, and I loved that ending. Be sure to pick this one up if you get the chance!

One by one, they will get what they deserve..
A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.
She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven.
Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.
Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.
And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?
But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:
Only one of them will return home alive
ONE BY ONE by Freida McFadden was an excellent read. Six friends plan a week away together but when their van breaks down and they’re lost in the woods, will they make it home alive? No one can be trusted. Lots of twists, fast-paced and overall a great read. The protagonist wasn’t super naive and nothing was too far fetched. I’d recommend One by One to others and definitely one of my favorite Freida reads.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an eARC in exchange for honest feedback.

Well, I did not see that coming! Picture yourself in a slasher movie. However, you have no idea who the killer is. The killer could be a wild animal for all we know, but don't you need thumbs to shoot a gun?
This book is twisted into a fast-paced thriller.
The ones you are closest to can not be trusted.
This book kept me on my toes through each left turn! It is one of those books that are just hard to put down. I suspected one person in the beginning. Then, by default was thrown off to suspect two people. Who the killer really is, was the absolute last person I could think of!
Thank you, Freida McFadden and NetGalley, for a free copy of this book in exchange for a review.

*I did get this book from NetGalley*
This is the story of three couples: Noah and Claire (married and fighting), Jack and Michelle (married and not happy), and Warner and Lindsay (dating and Lindsay thinks he is going to propose). Noah and Jack were roommates in college and so were Claire and Lindsay. The three couples head out to an inn together to get some relaxation time away from their jobs and kids. The story in particular follows Claire, who we quickly learn is cheating on Noah with Jack. Once they are almost there, the brand new minivan stops working, so they must get out on foot and keep walking. Warner has a map. and he says the inn is only a few miles ahead. Soon they keep dying one by one - and there are mysterious claw marks on all the trees. As more and more of them keeping dying, they start to blame each other. Will they figure out what/who the killer is before all of them are dead?
I liked this book, but I did not love it. It was a SUPER quick read and I did like the plot. I also really enjoyed the anonymous section where we did not know who the killer was, but were getting clues into their childhood and the murderous tendencies that evolved during it. There were several times that I linked a background story to something that we learned in the modern story, but of course I was not even close to the right person. I literally think that I blamed everyone but the killer. I low key do wish that it was written in a third person point of view because I felt like in my mind I could rule Claire out pretty quickly, so that meant that I was only down to five people to suspect. I did not expect who it was at the end, but at the same time it did not feel exciting to me. Halfway through I was thinking about giving it five stars, but the ending took it down for me. I did like the very last sections from the POV's of the survivors because it did make me think a little and it made me want more.

Freida is the nail biting queen. She will keep you on the edge of your seat and craving more and shock you with a curveball every-time and this one is no different!

This might possibly be my favorite Frieda book to date! It has all the creepy elements that will keep you up at night.....a couples' trip to a remote location, the ubiquitous car breakdown, and a friend group getting lost in the remote woods. And then, "one by one", the group starts getting picked off. For those of you who love Agatha Christie-esqe type reads, you won't want to miss this one.
Claire was hoping for a fun and restful weekend in the woods with some other couple friends. She was looking forward to a break from being a mom, some relaxation, and a chance to work on her struggling marriage. When the car breaks down before they arrive, the group is not overly concerned. Surely they must be close to the cabin, right? They can hike on in. Not so fast. Soon the group becomes hopelessly lost, no one can receive cell phone service....and then....someone goes missing.
As the group continues to venture on, they begin to disappear one at a time. Throughout the novel, we are able to access the narrator's point-of-view. Problem is, we have no idea who the narrator is in the friend group, and what their motivation for murder might be. I can say that when all was revealed at the end of the book, I had to pick my jaw up off the ground. While this wasn't the most unique concept of all time, it was fun, thrilling, and well-done. Freida fans, I highly recommend to add to your Frieda repertoire, if you have not already done so.

While I did fly through this book, I ended up guessing the largest plot twist by page 20. Keep us on our toes! Don't make things so obvious for who it is.

WOW!!! Unexpected!! Freida McFadden has become a must read for me. The traps and pitfalls, the psychological drama, the characters and even her scenes are all taut with drama. This one though, made me a littler sadder. Colorado is such a beautiful place to have such a menacing encounter.

I've been on a Freida McFadden kick lately and was thrilled that I received an arc copy from Netgalley. I loved that the setting took place in Colorado, I always love when books connect with where I'm from. However, this ended up not being my favorite book by her. I didn't care for the characters from the beginning and was underwhlemed by the twists at the end. This was a quick thriller and I would recommend it if you're a fan of the author. Otherwise I would try out a differetny book by her first.

I’m not quite sure what it was about this book, but it really turned me away from reading any more Frieda McFadden books. This was my first by her, and it was so unrealistic and ridiculous, I binged the whole thing because I was so irritated and just wanted it to be over. I do plan on reading more of her books because of how much hype she’s getting, but I have low expectations.

Well, I absolutely didn’t see this coming!! What a ride! Six friends off for a week’s vacation and things start to happen. I have to admit, the middle of the book didn’t seem realistic to me, but the ending was totally unexpected so I gave it five stars. Thank you to Net Galley and Poisoned Pen Press for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This was my first book by Freida McFadden and it definitely won't be my last! It kept me on my toes until the very end and I was pleasantly surprised at all of the twists and turns that I didn't see coming.

Freida McFadden sure knows how to write a story and suck you in from the very beginning.
Let me start off by saying I did not like any of the characters. I felt like they were all selfish and a little annoying. With that being said I feel like you weren’t supposed to like them. I also felt like there was a lot of missing pieces which I don’t want to say since it was an ARC and not a finish piece. Either way I really did like the story and I was thoroughly entertained. 4🌟
