Freida knows exactly how to write an addictive page turner. I read this in one sitting.
Definitely recommend!

Wow! What an amazing thrilling mind blowing read! I did not see that coming at all. Seriously I read this in one sitting. I’m astonished. Claire was very relatable and her marital problems were understandable, not to anonymous of course, but as a reader I got it. This was written perfectly, the author is a literary genius.

Chalk up another Freida McFadden book that ended with me laughing and pumping my fist - I don’t think anyone does twisted endings the way she does. I was pleasantly surprised to get this ARC, though I don’t think it’s actually an ARC…it looks like this was self-published in 2020, and is being re-released this week. It’s definitely worth putting out again; I enjoyed it so much!
Six is an inherently evil number, and we start the book with six people heading for six days of glamping in northern Colorado. Claire and her husband, Noah, are leaving their kids in the hands of their aunt to take the trip. Their marriage is unbelievably rocky, and Claire has some ulterior motives for wanting to go on this journey. Too bad she has to spend four hours in a car with Noah to get there!
Joining them are two other couples: Lindsey and Warner, Claire’s best friend and her new boyfriend, and Jack and Michelle, another couple whose marriage is dying. Jack feels trapped, but Michelle is a high-powered divorce attorney and he knows he can’t leave the marriage without losing everything he has. This group dynamic makes for a tense ride, until their van breaks down on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. Then things REALLY get tense…
Thinking they are only a couple miles from the inn, they start walking…and walking and walking. Soon, one person is dead. After realizing they need to stop for the night, the remaining five go to sleep - and wake up to another person missing. The next night, same. They are lost, out of food and water, and now there are only three of them left. One by one, they are all disappearing.
The story is mostly told from Claire’s perspective, but we do hear from an anonymous person throughout the book. This is incredibly rare for me with this author, but for once I actually figured something out! There is never just one big twist in a McFadden book though, and the epilogue was unseen and fantastic. If you haven’t read this one, grab yourself a copy on Tuesday! I loved it - 4.5 stars.
(Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press, Freida McFadden and NetGalley for the complimentary copy in exchange for my review).

this was so good! i was instantly hooked and could not put it down till i was done. i truly couldn’t figure it out at all. i thought i had it solved and then boom just kidding. i truly did enjoy this one and i highly recommend it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC! I binged this is one sitting. I know Frieda McFadden is the queen of thrillers - usually fast-paced, easy to read ones with big twists at the end. If that's what you like from her, then this will definitely be for you. Despite having six characters, I was able to remember everyone's names and backstories, which I'm usually pretty bad about. Even though I *want* to say I saw the twist coming, it wasn't my top suspicion of how I thought things would play out.
That being said, it wasn't really anything earth-shattering. I didn't predict the ending, but it also didn't blow me away. It did the job for a quick thriller, but I will probably not think about this book ever again. That's the only reason it sits at a 3 for me - I just wish it would've been a bit more memorable!
The Frieda McFadden fans will surely love this, though, and it's also a great introduction to her novels if you've never read from her before.

I really enjoyed this thriller! It was a fun read that kept me guessing the whole way through. I couldn't put it down and was able to finish it in an afternoon. I thought I knew what was happening, but, once again, I was wrong. I should know better than to try to predict Freida's plot twists! There were so many little things thrown in that made you question what people's intentions were and who was hiding things from everyone else. Definitely one of my favorites so far by this author!
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for providing an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review! All thoughts in this review are my own!

The main reason I like Frieda McFadden's books is because they are quick reads. This one was no different; I read it beginning to end in less than 4 hours. With that being said, I do sometimes find her books lacking in substance and complexity. I found this one in particular to be repetitive. Overall, I do like McFadden's books but this one is not one my favorites.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for approving this ARC for me.

One by One by Freida McFadden is a gripping psychological thriller. With its dark and twisty tale the book keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. McFadden's writing is fast-paced and with its deeply flawed and unlikable characters, it adds layers of complexity to the plot. and a surprising ending that I was not expecting.

Three couples plan a week-long trip together, anticipating fun and relaxation. However, their journey takes a terrifying turn when Claire's minivan breaks down on a desolate dirt road. Determined to reach their hotel, the group decides to hike the rest of the way. Yet, as they proceed, members of the group are inexplicably struck down, one by one, by mysterious circumstances.
Freida McFadden's suspenseful mystery, 'One by One,' was a fun and entertaining read that captivated me from the very first page. The relentless suspense kept me guessing throughout, making it a truly gripping read.

Buckle up, because One By One is like a shot of whiskey on a moonless night. The woods have secrets, and they’re not sharing.
It’s like the forest is playing poker, and the stakes are life and death.
One By One is a thriller that’ll crawl under your skin and set up camp. So grab your flashlight, sip that whiskey, and get ready for a wild ride.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this - kept me on my toes! Definitely didn’t see the plot twist coming. Finished in a day.

This is the first book I have read by Freida McFadden and it did not disappoint! When I put it down, I couldn’t wait to get back home to read it. I enjoyed the characters, and this book me guessing the entire time with an excellent ending tying everything together.

First, it took me a second but I realized that this book was originally published in 2020?
Basically, 3 couples go out on a trip to an inn but their car breaks down in the middle of the woods. So, naturally all 6 of them get out and try to walk to the inn. Along the way, they start to disappear/die off so the people remaining get stressed about surviving.
I thought this was a fun, quick read. Nothing super memorable but it also wasn't terrible. The pages were all quite short and the plot progressed at a constant, rapid pace that kept me enthralled until the end. I think I finished it in 2 hours?
This was a very typical Freida McFadden book, with the main character's pov and another anonymous character where the big twist is the reveal of who the other pov really is. It kept me guessing throughout (I really through it was someone but I think that was the red herring). I thought it was very thrilling and the ending was very interesting.
If I were to have a criticism, I wish some of the characters were more fleshed out--each of the 6 kind of felt really flat--Claire loved her family. Noah was kind of a jerk, Jack was the "fun" roommate, Lindsay was nice, Michelle was cold, and Warner was hot. lol. Just wish there was a little more to it.
Overall a very enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a quick, easy thriller to binge in one sitting.
Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for the ARC!

Settle in and get cozy; this suspenseful thriller will chill your bones. Claire and Noah are heading out with a few acquaintances for a relaxing time of fishing and enjoying the inn. However, the luggage won't be the only burdens they will bear. Something monstrous is in the woods with them and it might be one of the group. As they start to die one by one, the true meaning of loyalty surfaces and a second chance might be in the making if they survive the week. Exciting, fast-paced and chilling read, perfect for a summer camp out!

I was so excited to read this book as Freida has become one of my go-to thriller/mystery authors and this one did not disappoint! I loved the plot in the book and the atmosphere was set so perfectly. This book literally reads like a scary movie and was so captivating and easy to read. This is definitely in my top five Freida books and love that it's getting republished. Thanks NetGalley for the e-galley :)

“If anything happens, scream as loud as you can.”
One By One was a wild ride! Claire’s annual friendcation takes a turn for the worse when the group gets lost in the woods with no cell service, a broken-down car, and signs of fearsome creatures all around. But when members of the group begin disappearing, one after another, Claire begins to suspect that there’s something far more sinister than wild animals in these woods…
”I’m never going to see my children again. I’m going to die out here in the woods.”
I don’t usually have great luck with the And Then There Were None trope—I can usually pick out the killer and their motivations pretty early on. But not here! There were so many twists and potential suspects, and the author kept me guessing the whole way through.
”It was quite a performance, wasn’t it?”
And I absolutely loved the way the author set up the villain’s backstory and character arc. I usually have a soft spot for vigilante justice, but wow, this killer was an absolute psycho! Really enjoyed this one.

I really enjoyed this book. Finished it in less than a day! Captivating, couldn’t put it down!! This book kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end and I was blown away by the twist. 10/10!

First I’d like to thank the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for a copy of this ebook!
One by One follows six friends who have gone away on a couples trip. But when they get stuck in the woods and members of the group begin to disappear, it becomes clear that there are sinister forces at work.
While this relatively fast paced and engaging thriller kept me reading, I found myself increasingly frustrated by the repetitive writing, the unlikable characters, and the unrealistic twists.

I read this in one sitting! This was a fun, twisty thriller that kept me guessing the entire time.
Six people are heading to the woods for a getaway, but shortly after their car breaks down and they're forced to walk they realize something isn't right. One by one they are taken out and only one will survive.

Excellent book!
I hadn't read anything by Freida McFadden before, though I had heard good things about her works.
I'm glad I picked this up!
Thrillers set in the woods are some of my favorites and this one was an excellent addition.
The twists and turns had me guessing up until the very end.
I'm now very interested in going back and reading more of her books.
