I have read other Freida McFadden books and have enjoyed all of them, even this one. I did not see the plot twist coming in this one and was pleasantly surprised with the ending. I think Freida has a knack for writing this genre and does very well with it.
Clair and her husband have not been on the best of terms. Claire is not sure what has happened with their relationship and what has caused the separation that she feels from Noah, but she is not sure that they are going to last even if they are doing it just for their kids. When Claire and Noah decide to go on a camping trip to a cabin with 4 of their other friends, Claire thinks that this might be the break they need from each other. As the story goes on, we learn that Claire had reserved separate rooms for her and Noah. Claire had other plans than just having time to herself but you will have to figure that out by reading this story.
Lindsey is one of Claire's good friends and she has brought along her newly engaged fiance with her. Warner is a doctor that Lindsey has fallen head over heels for and thinks that Warner can do no wrong. Claire starts to have her doubts about Mr. Right when he makes some comments to Lindsey about what she should and should not eat.
The last couple that is on the trip is Jack and Michelle. Jack is Noah's best friend from college and Michelle is a divorce lawyer that has earned a reputation for being one of the best. So, even though Jack confides in Noah that he is not really happy in his marriage, he is sort of stuck. Michelle will eat him alive in a divorce.
When the couples are on their way, lots of awkward conversations take place and everyone seems on edge about the trip. They decided to take Claire's minivan because it has more room for everyone. When the van breaks down, they are all stranded with no where to go and when they try to find the cabin, they just keep going in circles and don't seem to get anywhere. It is hot, they are almost out of water and can't find their way to anyone or anything to get help.
As time goes on, things get spookier and strange things begin to happen. With everyone being hungry, they are tempted to eat whatever they see but who knows if it is safe? I am pretty sure you will get caught up in this story as I did and not want to put it down. I loved the twists that Freida put in the story. Stay with it because the ending is the best part.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book. I enjoyed it!

This was my first Freida McFadden book, and while I wasn't overly impressed, it was still a good enough read. A group of friends get stuck in the wilderness when their car breaks down on the way to an inn for vacation. One by one, they all get killed and / or vanish in the woods.
This book read a lot like horror, and is a plot line that has certainly been done before. It kept my attention and moved along pretty fast. It was nothing special though. The characters were kind of flat and underdeveloped and I just didn't LOVE it. As I said, this was my first Freida book, but I'm not giving up because people rave about her and I don't think this is one of her more popular ones. I will definitely be reading more of her books soon and am looking forward to it.

An easy, fast pace, enjoyable thriller! Just like all her other books, it seems very obvious what the twist is until you get to the end and realize you're wrong!

Freida McFadden is an author that can lure you in from the beginning of her books. I will say One by One was a bit slower starting off than previous reads by Mrs. McFadden. The character building took a while & I'll honestly say most of the characters were unlikable. They find themselves lost & in inhospitable conditions. Each has a secret & are just trying to survive. The ending was unexpected & a pleasant twist/surprise. I'd recommend this book to my friends.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publishers, & the author for an ARC of this text.

Thank you, Net Galley, Poisoned Pen Press, and Freida McFadden for this ARC.

"One by One" delivers where it counts for readers seeking a fast-paced and action-packed experience. The plot is engaging and keeps you on the edge of your seat, making it difficult to put the book down. McFadden's skill in building suspense and tension is evident throughout the story, creating a gripping atmosphere that hooks the reader from the start.

Freida McFadden doesn’t again! You know she throws a twist in every story she writes but once again, you think you have it figured out knowing there is a twist and bam! She surprises you at the end! I actually reread it to see if I missed any clues and some of it actually ties together even better the second time you read it! Highly recommend!

Three couples decide to go on a week long trip together. What sounds like bliss turns into a deadly nightmare as they start getting picked off one by one.
I was thrilled when I was approved for an eARC of One by One on Netgalley.
It was a short read and I was able to finish it in a few hours during the weekend.
But just a few pages in and I found myself losing interest in the plot as I found certain parts to be repetitive and drawn out. The identity of the killer did not shock me. I have read 4 of her books that I absolutely loved but this one was just average.
This was self-published few years ago and is being re-published by @poisonedpress. Thank you for a digital copy to read and review.

'One by One' was another wild ride by Freida McFadden where she yet again shocked me with a major twist that I did not see coming. I loved having an anonymous point of view throughout too because it was interesting to try to guess who that character was just by hearing their backstory. While some of the book seemed a little far-fetched, overall I loved it for what it was- a popcorn thriller through and through. I was able to read it in 24 hours because it kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what truly was happening on this vacation in the woods.
If you are looking to read something extremely fast-paced, a little eerie, and very suspenseful, then give 'One by One' by Freida McFadden a try.

I just started on the Frieda bandwagon and I’m totally obsessed! I have t made it through all of her books yet.
One by One…..Was it believable? Absolutely not. It felt like I was watching a B rated horror movie. But I still LOVED the book! I did not know until the very end what was going on and that is classic Frieda and why she is one of my favorite authors!!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this copy!

I read One by One in one gripping sitting. I could not put it down. The book had everything that I love about a good thriller; multiple povs, a creepy setting, and suspicious characters. The twists and turns kept on coming and I didn’t guess the ending — something that I often find myself doing with thrillers!

Great little story about 6 friends who are on a road trip assuming that their destination is a relaxing inn but instead get stranded and lost within the woods. We have 3 couples whose relationships are a bit rocky (except for one - Lindsay and Warner, who have just started dating and Lindsay believes Warner is the most perfect man on earth). But not everyone is as they seem. The story is a dual POV - we have Claire, one of the wives, and Anonymous, who we presume is one of the other friends. I thought I figured out who Anonymous was quite early on just by their chapters and how it linked to a certain character in the present but I ended up being so wrong! It just shows how amazing the author can write twists and keep you on your toes! This book is really not what you expect it to be but in such a good way.
Thank you to netgalley and Hollywood Upstairs Press for the ARC! I believe this book is being republished soon! ✨

Three couples set off for a weekend away but their car breaks down and they never make it. Stuck in the scorching wilderness something starts happening one by one… the plot is a little disappointing and ultimately unsatisfying however the journey is a page turner.

I was pretty excited when my request was accepted and in a short time I devoured this bcs it's so page turning!
.
The story follows Claire and her husband, Noah. They're struggling to maintain their marriage bcs they hate each other now. One day, they go for vacation, hoping their marriage can be saved. They go with their friends to an inn in the wood. But suddenly the vacation went wrong when one by one they mysteriously disappeared and they run out of water and food.
.
The premise is intriguing and the plot is fast paced. We got 2 POVs here, Claire and some Anonymous, which is make me wondering who the hell this Anonymous is.
The atmosphere was good, I can feel the horror, how terrified and frustated the characters are when they got lost in the wood and one by one disappeared.
Personally, the characters aren't lovable lol everyone is suspicious and annoying in their own way.
Lastly, for me, the plot twist is unexpected which is shocking me. But tbh I wasn't satisfied with the ending.
I would recommend it to the readers who loves mystery/thriller genre, especially who-dun-it. This book is worth to read!

I'll give this 4.5★

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the e-ARC in exchange of my honest review!

The Queen of mysteries strikes again!
Once I started this book I couldn't put it down. I kept telling myself, just one more chapter. But at the end of each chapter I had to find out what happened next!
I had my suspicions about who anonymous was from the start so I wasn't overly surprised when it was revealed. However, I didn't know the motivation behind their actions until later in the book when I started putting the pieces together.
I thought the characters were really relatable and hit on real issues in marriage without making that the main component of the book. We were given just enough information about each character to understand them while still unsure of what they were truly capable of.
A fantastic read!

Thanks NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Claire and her husband are nearing divorce. They plan a trip with 2 other couples. On the way there the van breaks down and the 3 couples are required to hike in the woods to their final destination. No one has cell service and they become lost. The party then gets hunted down “one by one.” Who is hunting them? Who will survive?
This book kept me entertained and wanting to read more to uncover the mystery. Of course in true Frieda McFadden fashion there is a fantastic plot twist at the end…one that I was not expecting.

I know this is just a re-print under a new publisher but it is my first time reading this book and my second McFadden book all together. I couldn't put this book down! I thought I had the twist figured out but I was so wrong! Love this!

In this suspenseful thriller, Claire Matchett’s is stranded with her friends on the way to a vacation, Deciding to hike to their hotel, they get lost in the woods. As they dive into the woods deeper, one by one they start disappearing. The tension builds throughout the story, but unfortunately the build is a little too slow for me and the ending too rushed. While the story is entertaining, it lacks that edge-of-your-seat quality. I rate it 3 out of 5 stars.

Mmmm not my favorite book by Freida but it was still very bingeable. I enjoyed the short chapters and there was definitely plot twists I wasn’t expecting. I literally did not see it coming with who I thought “anonymous” was. *gasp
But the negatives were that I thought the overall plot was whack and there wasn’t a whole lot of attention to detail. The writing felt very simplistic & repetitive. Also I’ve started to notice that a lot of her books have the cheating trope, which I abhor.
It’s a good book to just mindlessly read but I’ve definitely read better thrillers.

Once again, Freida has delivered an unputdownable thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end! If you’re interested in thrillers, murder mysteries, or any other Freida McFadden book, this should go on your list.

I'm a pretty big fan of F.M. books and I knew that going into it that I'd love her writing style. My streak of loving every F.M. book I've read has continued.
