VERY fast-paced thriller! I normally don't enjoy books where there is only one setting, but this one was enjoyable! We can always count on Freida for a good twist, and this one definitely had it. I thought I had it all figured out until the last 10% of the book. I enjoyed the perspective of Claire for the majority of the novel with a sprinkle of an anonymous narrator to explain what kind of person we were dealing with in the woods. Fully satisfied with the ending of this book, would recommend to others! Thank you NetGalley, the author, and Poisoned Pen Press for allowing me access to this book in exchange for my honest review.

Big Frieda always does what needs to be done!
This book is about a wife who thinks that she is going to get a nice break away from the kids on a vacation with her friends.
The trip runs into a string of bad luck, and things don't turn out the way they thought it would.
Things don't start looking up when they start getting killed one by one, and no one knows who is doing it, or who's next.
If you like books that have suspense and twists, where it all starts coming together in the end of the book, then this one is for you!
Thank you to #netgalley for this #arc

Freida, you did it again.
This book is the definition of a popcorn thriller and I ate it up!
In this story, you are following Claire Matchett and her friends, when a breakdown in the woods sets off a series of mysterious events, leaving the group lost.
Are they in danger? Will they get rescued? Is everyone really who they say they are?
As the group navigates further into the wilderness, facing fear and uncertainty, the narrative unravels with surprises and twists that kept me entertained and guessing. I will say that Freida knows how to write a thrilling tale of survival that will keep you reading!
While the premise seems very familiar, the story's unique twists and turns offered a fresh take on the "survival genre" and kept me on my toes until the end.
If you're a fan of popcorn thrillers or light suspense, this book is for you! 4 stars

This was my first Freida McFadden book and it definitely won't be my last, I simply could not put it down. This is a quick read suspense that follows the main character Claire as she and her husband join their friends on an annual getaway. They were looking forward to spending the week at an upscale resort but when their minivan breaks down they are stranded in the woods trying to make their way to safety. One by one the friends are killed, I had several theories on who it might be, especially as the options narrowed in but the author kept me guessing and I did not see the final twist coming. This is a dual POV, mainly told from the perspective of Claire but with a few chapters sprinkled in from "Anonymous". Claire paints a picture of a strained marriage and complicated friendships with several secrets setting them all up with a motive. The only other narrative is Anonymous, we get small glimpses into the life of this person as the story progresses.
This was an excellent read and I look forward to reading more by this author.

This was a super fun and quick read. I think Freida does a really fantastic job at creating characters that you just really hate. Some people dislike that about her writing style but I think it has a place and she is very good at creating those characters. I tore through this book in just 2 sittings. So if you’re looking for a book that is a quick read with lots of twists and truly keeps you guessing til the end, this is a great one to pick up.
Not a spoiler but the only thing I found kind of weird about it is that when someone important dies right away the person that loves them a whole bunch is sad for like… two minutes and then “we have to move on” other than that I thought it was very well written.

Rounded up to 3.5 ⭐️
I read this in one sitting! In typical Frieda fashion, the chapters were short and the story sucked me in from the beginning. I found myself saying “one more chapter” until next thing I knew, it was over 🤣 I definitely was surprised with a few twists but nothing like some of her other books I’ve read. I think I personally was just expecting more - not to say this fell flat because it absolutely didn’t but I felt like I could do with more. All in all, this kept my attention the entire time and wanting to know what was going to happen next!
Thank you to the author, Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to read this one!!

This was my first Freida McFadden book and I really wanted to love it… but I didn’t.
The novel is dual POV from Claire, a woman who is deeply unhappy in her marriage and “Anonymous” someone whose story we discover throughout the course of the book. Claire and her husband are invited on an annual friend trip with two other couples. The trip is supposed to take place at a swanky hotel in the woods but inconveniently Claire’s minivan which was transporting them all to this hotel breaks down.
The rest follows the couples trying to find their way out of the woods with more and more unbelievable scenarios and situations.
In my opinion, the book felt forced it was almost as if the author was like “this is a thriller, this is a thriller” and wrote more far fetched and frankly ridiculous situations that people would likely not find themselves in.
I think I probably would have DNF’d this had it not been a NetGalley review.

2⭐️⭐️
May contains spoilers ‼️
✨ started with the story of two couple ( Claire and Noah) who is having a hard time to their marriage. They were going to go on a trip with friends.
Lindsay, (Claire’s best friend) Warner ( Lindsay boyfriend ) Jack ( Noah’s best friend) , Michelle ( jacks wife ) .
Started out of them getting lost in the woods because of Claire’s minivan battery died.
So they ended up walking through the woods for about 3 days. As they keep walking to find the inn, it instant that the story was like a survival . They have to find a food and water to keep them going, Lindsay found a berry and makes herself sick . They Michelle disappears. Then Warner next .
A random cabin was in the woods that clears everything . Another twisted ending story.
✨ I’m a huge fan of F.M , but this one is probably the least. I think I had too much expectations. I nearly DNF the book halfway as the characters were dry and not likeable.
I just hang on to my guts as I know, knowing F.M that her book has twisted ending but this one is not worth it.
2 scenarios on this book from the main character and an anonymous.
It doesn’t make any sense that lindsay want them to be dead, also knowing Warner as a psychopath when she is one.
a random guy who was found dead in his truck with stab wounds while half eastern sandwich inside?
And what is the connection of the story of the anonymous person to do with the story of her before about the black berries and her eating it on the first few chapter . So it means it’s just a blueberry after all?
✨anyway, it’s still a good read but not my favourite of her.

Mind blowing thriller with an unexpected plot twist.
3 couples embark on a road trip, but when the car breaks down and they get lost in the woods they start getting taken out one by one.
Is one of the six a killer or is there something more sinister going on? Is it a monster or an animal?
I had a few theories as the story progressed. I thought maybe Warner was a werewolf or that one of them was.
Anonymous was not at all who I thought it was. And I even flip flopped on who it could have been as the book went on. I feel like that part of the story could have used some work. Some of the clues seemed slightly far fetched for who it ended up being.
Overall, it was a fun, fast paced enjoyable read!

One by One follows a group of friends on a week long vacation in the Colorado wilderness, and as the title suggests, they are mysteriously picked off One by One. Mysteriously? The characters were unlikeable, lacked depth, and had minimal redeeming qualities. This translated to the lack of being invested in the plot as the characters were picked off “one by one”. I found Claire’s inner monologue to be repetitive, especially compared to the length of the book. Overall, One by One was a quick and easy read, but it lacked the ‘thrill’ and mystery qualities that I have previously enjoyed from this author.
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Ink Press for the copy of One by One in exchange for my honest review.

Overall, I liked this book. The anonymous prologue hooked me right away. Of course some of what was in it didn't turn out to be true, but it was written in a way that you can't say the author deceived you - I appreciate the cleverness of that. The story itself was well written, decently paced, and very easy to read. But I thought most of the characters were a bit one-dimensional. Each could have easily been described using one sentence, so I didn't really feel a sense of connection to them. That being said, I really liked the anonymous character who, despite not being the primary narrator, was the person who we learned the most about, who had the most depth, and who played the largest role; I love a character with a motive and who makes an impact. But because the anonymous character had such a clear vision, there was one small part of the story didn't make sense and is still bugging me, even now. The twist at the end was predictable in part, but how everything played out was not. The final twist in the final chapter landed really well and I thought was such a smart way to end the book. This was my first Freida McFadden book, it certainly won't be my last.

This was a quick easy to devour thriller that was high on entertainment but low on plot content. Three couples head out for a weekend retreat and unfortunately they get “lost” along the way. Lies, deceptions, and poor choices are revealed as they struggle to survive. One by one they fall victim to sabotage and mysterious predator.

Frieda has done it to me again! A book that keeps you sucked in the entire time. At times I thought I’d have it figured out, just to learn I was COMPLETELY off. Six friends go for a week long vacation, but not all of them make it back. Is it something in the woods? Or someone on the inside? This book will have you constantly second guessing yourself each chapter. Easily could have finished in one sitting. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a twisty suspenseful thriller!

This is my first Freida McFadden book, and I understand the hype. This was incredibly well written, and the ending! I didn’t see it coming at all!

Read this book cover to cover in 4 hours, I couldn't put it down. Freida makes it impossible for you to not read a book in one sitting. I don't know how she does it but her books are like literal crack. I always thought people were embellishing when they said they had authors who's books they buy without reading the blurb, I can confirm they are not. This woman could write an instruction manual and you better believe I'd read it.
This book reminded me of all the 90s/00s soft horror films I'd watch, which I LOVE. Group of people get stranded in the woods, lots of conflict and secrets and then they all start getting knocked off 'one by one'.
I was so sure I knew who the anonymous POV was, boy was I wrong.
As always, extremely well written, faultless, the twists and turns are well done - the definition of a suspense thriller. I needed to get to the end. Don't start this book late at night, you won't get a wink of sleep.
On to the next Freida book for me.... I don't know how she does it...

Fast paced read that leaves you guess who did it? Claire, the main voice of the book, is struggling in her relationship with her husband. When Claire, her husband and four others go on a trip together, their trip takes a turn for the worst. Lost in the woods, as they try to find the inn, the truths start to come out.

Well well well!
This book was a hell of a ride..
It had me hooked from the first chapter.
All of Freida’s books blow my mind.
I will say, i wasn’t as shocked by the twists in this book however it was still done so well.
I can’t wait to start my next Freida book 😊

a fast paced, easy to read thriller. as is signature of mcfadden's writing, the book flows well and is easy to get into. suspense is created and you're kept on your toes- though this one was not as well done as some of her other works, i liked it well enough to read in one sitting. at times i foresaw twists, but it wasn't anything that ruined the experience. 3.5 stars, a fun read. mcfadden knows how to write her thrillers.

Three couples have booked a week away in a wilderness lodge in Colorado. Claire and her husband Noah are looking forward to a break from work and caring for their two children. Recently their marriage has been rocky and they have grown apart so this break could either help to mend it or end it. The other two couples going are Noah’s best friend Jack and his lawyer wife Michelle and Claire’s best friend Lindsey and her new boyfriend, Warner, a handsome doctor.
It's a four our trip to the lodge so they decide to all travel in Claire’s six-seater minibus. When they enter the woods on the way to the lodge, they lose their GPS signal and have to rely on a hand drawn map Werner has brought along, which takes them deeper and deeper into the woods on little travelled tracks. When Claire’s car breaks down, they must venture off on foot to find the lodge. Apart from ex-boy scout Jack, they are inadequately equipped (both mentally and physically) for a trek in the woods and soon become hopelessly lost.
The title gives a hint of what happens next, but you won’t be prepared for the twists and turns that ramps this up to a nightmare of a trip. The novel is mostly narrated by Claire, whose voice does get a bit repetitive, constantly thinking about how bad her marriage is and how much she is missing the kids even though she hasn't even started her vacation yet. Interspersed with Claire's narration are chapters from an anonymous narrator, who is clearly one of the group with some shocking secrets in their past and some nasty plans for the group..
While I enjoyed the read and the major twist, it all seemed a bit ludicrous that a group of supposedly smart people going off to a hunting and fishing lodge were all so inept and ill-prepared to be out in the wild (had they never been hiking?). The plot never succeeded in scaring me and felt more like a parody of a group getting lost in the woods, although it was strangely fun to see what was going to happen to the group next. However, it is a quick entertaining read, but not all that thrilling and certainly not horror, even with the giant claw marks, bigger than a bear’s, on the trees!

This novel kept my heart rate up. I thought for sure I knew who was behind the mysterious disappearances but BOY WAS I WRONG. This was full of twists and turns and the mini twist at the end left me shocked and appalled. McFadden does a fantastic job of wrapping everything up at the end of her novels, and then throwing a wrench in the happily ever after during the very last chapter. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes a good mystery.
