Title: One by One By Freida McFadden
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Stars
"Five-star thriller! Freida McFadden's 'One by One' had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The tension builds with each page and I just couldn’t get enough of it.
What was meant to be a tranquil getaway, Claire Matchett and her friends face a dire situation when their minivan stalls in the wilderness. Stranded and desperate to find their way back, they are attacked by unknown assailants picking them off one by one. As each new danger arises, it becomes evident that survival is a daunting struggle against overwhelming odds, with only one person likely to survive in the end.
McFadden's writing kept me guessing until the very end, and the twists and turns left me gobsmacked.
I can't believe it took me this long to discover Freida McFadden's books! After reading this one, I'm definitely adding more of her work to my tbr list. What a thrilling ride!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

What an absolutely gripping murder mystery. My first read from Freida, but it will definitely not be my last.
One minivan, six friends, and one desolate cabin. Sounds like the making of a perfect holiday, doesn’t it? If you said yes, you’re without a doubt wrong on this one.
Bickering in the car, half eaten lunches at a service dinner, and the next thing you know, the minivan’s broken down on a desolate road in the middle of nowhere.
We follow Claire Matchett, whose marriage to her college sweetheart has gone to ruins and she can’t quite decide when to call it quits. And we also follow “Anonymous” who tells us the horrible story of their childhood.
This book, for me, was very well written. I read it in one go and even went as far as to eat dinner without putting this book down. The twists and turns were so well crafted and I couldn’t help but feel for every character, whether they were bad or good.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery and even those who haven’t tried the genre before to give this book a go, it’s definitely worth it.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

As a fan of Frieda McFadden I was so excited to jump into One by One. Very quickly into the book I began questioning "who is doing it" and asking myself what the motive was for the events and killings. Alternative viewpoints gave me a deeper perspective of the anonymous and Claire's character. All while trying to survive and make it through the wilderness of Northern Colorado. As always Frieda delivered her twist which left me questioning and wondering what I had read and sad when it was over because it went so quick!
Thank you to Poison Pen Press, NetGalley, and Frieda McFadden for the ARC. I am so grateful.

This was fun! I love a good survival thriller!
The beginning caught my attention quick but then moved a little slower than I would have liked but once it picked back up it didn’t stop. I loved trying to figure out what was going on. I did put it together before the reveal but it was still a good ride!

Wow! This was so good. A rollercoaster. Every single book I’ve read from Freida McFadden always surprise me. Along the story I think things will turn out a certain way and they don’t. This one was one twist after another. I seriously could not stop reading.

One by one, they will get what they deserve...
A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.
She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven.
Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.
Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.
And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?
But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:
Only one of them will return home alive.
𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒:
I will say the past/present flashback kept me interested to see how it ended, and the twists at the end were overall unexpected.
I did kind of find it unrealistic for all the crazy stuff that was happening that none of the characters seemed highly affected emotionally by it (when someone you're with dies, it seems like it might be a huge deal…)
Reminiscent of any one-by-one thriller (also a mildly closed door thriller?) (agatha christie did it best, but I’ve also read one by Ruth Ware) this story was entertaining, a quick read, but not even close to my favorite my Freida McFadden (read the housemaid, the inmate etc).
THANK YOU to netgally, Freida McFadden, and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC! This book is set to be published April 2 2024!

Honestly a little underwhelmed with this one. I have read 4 Freida McFadden books so far and this one might be my least favorite. I wasn't really hooked in the beginning and I guess I'm not a big fan of the "lost in the woods" trope. The main thing that really hooked me was Anonymous and even then, the reveal was not as shocking as I would have liked...

WOW!!!! This book truly had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I couldn't put it down. I definitely did not see that one coming at all, the ending just had my mind so blown. What a shocking turn of events and trust me when I say, you'll be just as surprised to find out who is behind everything in the end. Freida did it again, truly amazing writing with so many twists and turns. 10/10 read!!

When reading multiple books from the same author you get to watch their writing and those topics grow and change and evolve and that’s what I have been seeing with Freida McFadden. One thing is for sure her writing will draw you in immediately and keep you there for the entire book. They are easy and enjoyable reads with shocking twists - every single time.
I loved the alternating chapters between Claire and an anonymous source. There are enough clues given throughout the book that you will suspect every single person in that van and then have yourself convinced it is someone else all along!

This was quick read (about 3 hours) but not one of my favourite McFadden books. We follow Claire and 5 other people who go on a trip together and get lost in the woods. One by one, people end up dead.
Besides Claire's POV, there are also a few chapters from an anonymous POV. I did like this, especially since didn't guess who the secret POV was before the end.
I enjoyed the story but since the cast of characters was quite limited, I didn't find the story very exciting for some reason? It was still a good book, but McFadden definitely has more interesting thrillers. Usually, I'm at the edge of my seat with her books but I was missing something here.

Once again Freida McFadden's writing drew me in right away. I always thoroughly enjoy her style and like how there are always a twist. I did suspect who was the guilty person in this book but the entire time I was second guessing myself. Even though I had an idea of who it might be, once again I didn't figure out completely.

Claire and Noah have a marriage that has been on the rocks when they decide to go on a vacation with four of their friends. Will this help their marriage? After their vehicle breaks down in the middle of nowhere the survival of their marriage is put on the back burner, the couple find themselves fighting for their lives as one by one their group goes missing or turns up dead.
I love Freida’s writing! It’s fast paced and entertaining. This was a quick read for me and not because of the amount of pages but because I was sucked in. I love it! Freida has a wicked sense of humor and that shows in her writing. Also, some of the decisions the characters made were not the smartest but it made for an entertaining read. Natural selection I suppose. Ha.
My profuse thanks to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Freida McFadden can do no wrong! Every single book I have read of hers is binge worthy and twisty; just how I like my thrillers. “One by One” is not exception. Three couples are headed to a remote vacation together. The characters were crabby and I had difficulty connecting to them in the beginning of the story… but I was pulled in as they begin to get picked off one by one. This book is fast paced and creepy!! Thanks so much to NetGalley and publisher for the opportunity to read this one.

This was my first time reading Freida McFadden. Her books are in high demand at the library right now. I was excited to finally read one of her books.
Overall, I did enjoy the story. It was a classic thriller with some twists along the way. It was definitely a very fast read. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a standout for me. Knowing how popular she is, I would probably try another one of her books in the future.
I gave this one 3 stars. Thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the advanced copy.

A classic who-done-it thriller. We follow three couples on their way to a relaxing vacation in the wilderness. However, they all have their secrets. When their car breaks down and they are stranded in the woods, they begin disappearing one by one.
This felt a little repetitive at times, but i still didn't see the ending coming. It literally had me guessing until the very last sentence. This was my friend Freida book and I will absolutely be reading more!

Is this book perfect? No. Is it fun? Yes. This is a really quick read and a fun "locked room" thriller. A bunch of "friends" get lost in the woods together and something is picking them off one by one. In classic Freida fashion, it also has short chapters which I love.
It is told primarily from Claire's viewpoint, which is unfortunate because it would have been better if it had her other friends' POVs as well. There were some flaws in this book when it came to the story. I feel like the characters are well-educated, but when it comes to common sense they were dumb. Her writing was also pretty repetitive when it came to Claire's thoughts about her friends.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and even though it wasn't perfect it was still fun. The twist was pretty good, but I guessed part of it early on based on her writing style.

We read from two POV, Claire's and "Anonymous". I can honestly say I was never sure who anon was, and I couldn't have guessed the twist! One by One kept me on the edge of my seat and I binged it in just a couple of hours! McFadden never misses 👏
Thank you so much @netgalley and Poised Pen Press for the digital review copy!

A quick read that kept me guessing! I didn’t see the plot twist coming. A good, short, fun thriller.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of the e-book.

A group of friends on their way to a luxurious vacation end up stranded in the middle of nowhere a few miles from their destination. With the use of a map and a compass, they should easily get to the resort. Instead, something seems to be following them and killing them one by one. Claire, the book’s narrator, needs this vacation. With her marriage on rocky terms and her lover in the group, she ultimately doesn’t know who to trust. There’s a reason that Freida McFadden is one of my favorite authors, she is always able to keep me guessing and this book was no exception!
