The best part of this book is that it's so easy to get through. The plot was easy and interesting enough to follow that I absolutely flew through this book. However there are a lot of issues. Overall, I think McFadden is a pretty good writer, but with room to improve. There were some weird moments when the writing, whether it was dialogue or a description, that seemed really immature. It's hard to describe but it gave me bad fanfiction vibes at times. There were times where it really felt like an amateur author writing one of their first books.
While I do think the "villains" motive is solid and makes sense, the way they went about it didn't really make sense. Slight spoilers from here on out: why was it dragged out for so long? Maybe they wanted to psychologically torture everyone, but they had so many opportunities to kill everyone but they had to have their final villain reveal and explanation of their motives and plans. It also all ended so quickly, like all of a sudden the survivors were able to overpower the antagonist and save the day and they're back home. Honestly, I just really hope Claire and Noah get couples therapy because even without the antagonists meddling, there's no way they changed that quickly and all of a sudden love each other again.
Overall, I think there's a lot of potential and the plot/writing was good enough to enjoy, but if you think about it too long, it's not that great.

Freida McFadden never disappoints. She brings the twists and keeps you on your toes. Claire needs a getaway from her life and some down time. Very little did they know that they would break down in the middle of no where and have some surprises along the way.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advance read!

I loved how this book kept me wondering what will happen next! Once I started reading I could not stop until the very last page. The plot was well written and the characters were just as well developed! This is yet another book by her that I loved!!

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I have recently seen an uptick in books that are trying to be Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. However, they aren't matching up to the classic. I really loved the setting of this book, mountains and a ski resort. The character development lacked and there were too many characters to keep track of. I feel I needed to switch back to read who they were again but it's too difficult on the kindle. It was also very predictable.

Overall, I was bored but I love Freida and will for sure keep reading what she writes.

This book follows a group of six friends and three couples on a six-day trip to an INN. While trying to get there, their car breaks down, and things go from bad to worse. They are limited on their food and water supply and forced to rely on each other.

I am a big Freida McFadden fan, and this book did not disappoint. Every time I think I have the ending figured out, the plot twist hits, and I am not expecting what happens. I could not put this book down. I definitely rate this book five stars and can't wait to devour more Frieda books.

Thank you, Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press, for the ARC!

Freida McFadden never disappoints, and One by One is another exciting, page turning book.
Three couples head to the woods for some relaxation and the chance to escape the stresses of everyday living.
When the van that they are in breaks down they have no choice but to walk.

When the walk people are killed one by one. The survivors have no idea about the killer - animal or human? How many will survive and just who will it be?

This book kept me up at night as I sought to devour it. I couldn't stop turning the pages.
These psychological thrillers are so engrossing. They also take over whatever is stressing me as I escape into McFadden's world.

This was such a quick and entertaining thriller read. I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for an atmospheric mystery thriller. I read this in one sitting and had a great time. Even though I did guess the killer(s), I still enjoyed the revelation!

Thank you NetGalley for the copy of One by One by Freida McFadden.

Twisty, twisty. I have enjoyed several of Freida's books. This one like the others takes you for a ride. I like that it keeps you guessing on what's going on and what will happen next. Lots of backstabbing, road trip from hell, relationship issues, murder, mistrust and a little what in the world.

The book skips back and forth between present day and the past. You meet an abused child and follow them for a bit and then bounce back to present day. Keeps you guessing who the child is....who is lying...who would be so cruel.

Thanks for the quick and twisty read!

As soon as I read the premise of One By One I was sold! Claire & Noah are having some major marriage problems, but decide to go on a week long vacation with some friends to an isolated inn anyway. (though Claire does have a little surprise for Noah). Unfortunately the car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and they start getting picked off one by one. Is it man or monster? Freida McFadden books are usually a quick palate cleaner for me. This was fun, a bit creepy and I didn't really see that ending coming!

Check and make sure you didn't read this when it first came out in 2020. If you haven't, know that it's a popcorn book that's both trope-y and over the top in spots. That said it's also a good popcorn read for travel or the beach.

I came across this on NetGalley and it sounded familiar but I instantly requested this ARC. I did not realize it was a republication. I first read this book when it came out in 2020. I can't believe I didn't catch it sooner or do a little digging before requesting it. However, this book is great! It was one of the books that got me into Freida's books and into the Thriller genre. If you haven't read this book yet then you should definitely give it a read.

This is my second Freida book. I stumbled upon “The Teacher” a couple of weeks ago and was mind blown so I was excited to get selected for the advanced reader copy of her newest work. Three couples venture into the woods for a relaxing weekend after one couples young daughter has a premonition that “something is going to eat them in the woods”. The author has an anonymous narrator throughout the book whose story builds up to the very end when they are exposed.

You don’t realize just how many secrets friends can keep.

Would absolutely recommend to a friend!

Another winner by the queen of thrillers! I was approved for this ARC from NetGalley today and read the whole thing in one sitting. I just couldn’t put it down!
When Claire and her husband Noah set off on a trip to a luxurious inn in the mountains of Colorado with two other couples, she expects that when they come home, she and Noah will file for divorce. She has reached the point of hating him and is sure he feels the same way about her. But when her van breaks down, leaving them all stranded in the woods, things go terribly wrong. After a few days, all of the other members of their group are dead or missing. Are Claire and Noah next? It was impossible to stop reading this fast paced thriller to see what happened next. I thought I had it figured out, but the final twist blew my theory away!

Thank you Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC!

Freida McFadden does not disappoint when writing a book! One by One takes you on a week-long trip with three couples however, things don't go as planned when Claire's minivan breaks down in the middle of nowhere with no cell service. As they venture deeper into the dark forest one by one members of the party are "falling". Leaving you wondering who or what is hunting them? Is anyone really who they seem to be? Do you truly know someone when danger shows its face?

This book is like being on a rollercoaster and not knowing what turns it's going to take. The perfect read for any thriller fan!

I love Frieda McFadden! I've read a lot of her book and this one did not disappoint. It felt a little different for her and I loved it. She is known for quick and fast paced thrillers with short chapters and that's what I love. I couldn't put it down and did not see the twists coming.

This was a great story - lots of twists, set in the wilderness with unreliable characters. I couldn't put it down and will be recommending it to those that like thrillers.

Synopsis: Claire and Noah are struggling within their marriage. Claire and Noah go away with 2 of their friends and their partners and hope that this week will either determine the end of their marriage or whether they will make it work. 2 miles away from their cabin retreat their minivan breaks down and they have to walk the rest of the way. Everyone looses phone reception and one by one people are disappearing, but who's behind it? Is it a person or a wild animal? There is also an 'anonymous' point of view in this book, as well as Claire's, but who's point of view is it and why is it important?

Comments (short): this is the first ever book I've read by Freida McFadden and I'm glad it was. The book was full of twists that I never saw coming, some I did expect and guess, but overall it had me second guessing my thoughts a lot. It's a short book, but has you hooked from the first chapter. I read this in one sitting, it did take a few hours but I loved it and couldn't put it down until the end. I rated this book 4.5/5 stars as it was a very good book and I really enjoyed it but little details and things that happened didn't quite fit my 5 star mark. Would definitely recommend though!

Comments (long):
What I liked about the book: I liked the fact that there was so many twists and 9/10 of the twists you never see coming or you briefly think about it but then doubt yourself because the characters are all doubting each other. The ending wasn't something that was easily guessed and having the characters all doubting each other throughout the book threw me off when predicting as their thoughts made a lot more sense rather than my random guessing.
I liked that there was an anonymous point of view, as well as Claire's, throughout the book, which explained a lot about the anonymous character and why they acted the way that they did, without it, the book wouldn't have made sense. Having an anonymous background made me keep guessing who it was and it threw me completely off the ended.
I liked that the book had me constantly guessing what was going to happen. It was definitely a page turner.

The characters
The characters within this book was well written. They all had a different personality which was shown throughout the book, consistently, so you could get to know each one on a deeper level. Each character at some point throughout the book had a link to what was currently happening which led you to believe that they were behind all the disappearances.

The scenes
The scenes were all set so perfectly that you could fully imagine you were right there with the group and experiencing what they were at the time. There was a lot of details in each scene, throughout the entire book, so you were never guessing about what was going on and where. There wasn't too much detail, but just enough so it would create the perfect image in your head.

The plot
The entire plot of the book was very well written, it stuck to the plot for the entire of the book and I enjoyed the plot very much! The book had me gasping and shocked at the twists.

Dislikes
I didn't like the fact that one of the friends' disappearance wasn't explained apart from the fact that the person behind it all wouldn't get away with it. But this friends' disappearance happens quite early on in the book, so it doesn't explain a lot. It would've been better for it to have happened at the end but then the doubts of the other friends wouldn't have been planted within the group.
I would've liked a bit more of a background on Claire and Noah's relationship, as well as Jack and Michelle's to find out exactly what led them to the point of a possible divorce. Especially Jack and Michelle's marriage, as that didn't tend to make much sense.
Also, I didn't like the fact there wasn't much about Michelle's personality and why she acted so hostile towards the other females in the group and practically ignored them. She came across as a typical high school mean girl, who thought she was better than anyone else, but it wasn't explained as to why and it could've easily been added at one point during the book when Claire asks Jack why she doesn't want to hang out with her.

Summary
It is a very good book and I highly recommend as a quick easy read if you're into thrillers. It's easily read within a few hours and even if you put the book down it isn't hard to pick off right where you left off and there's no confusion as to what's happening.

When I signed up for this ARC, I didn't realize it was a republication. I first read this book April of 2022 with a rating of 5 stars.
Freida's books never fail to shock and surprise with twists and turns on her books!
6 friends left stranded in the woods after the van breaks down, and one by one, something happens. Who is behind the mysterious deaths?
