This is the second book of the Lone Wolf Legacy series, and I was utterly drawn into the world of Kade Alvarez, a lone immortal wolf, and Luna West, a human with a mysterious connection to him. Their encounter in New York City, set against dark magic and power struggles, is compelling. Walters masterfully blends romance with paranormal elements, creating a story that is as thrilling as it is passionate. The concept of lone wolves with a unique destiny adds a fresh twist to the shapeshifter genre. I was particularly captivated by the intensity of Kade and Luna's relationship and the looming threat of power-hungry mages. It was a genuinely engaging and suspenseful tale that kept me hooked till the end.

Protecting the Grey Wolf is the second book in N.J. Walters latest series, Lone Wolf Legacy and it certainly captures the reader’s attention from the very beginning. This is a story of solitude and devastating impact of loneliness, rejection, and uncertainty. The story has an easy ebb as readers are drawn into the complex lives and heart-wrenching pain of the primary characters. A thoroughly intriguing read and a wonderful addition to the series.

This is book 2 in the Lone Wolf Legacy and while it could be read as a standalone, I would absolutely read book 1 before this one. It not only starts off with what is beginning to happen but there is a bigger story ARC involved. I’m used to other wolves coming for me. They want their chance to try and take out the infamous Gray Wolf. And every single one of them fails—because lone wolves aren’t like the others…we’re stronger. Harder. Meaner. Immortal. But it also means I’m alone. No pack. No alpha. Just the three of us—white, gray, and black. Two too many, if you ask me. But with power-hungry mages gunning for us, I don’t have the luxury of reflection. They’re in New York City, and I Will. Hunt. Them. Down. Which is when I see her, and every cell in my body is on alert, filled with the kind of primal longing I never knew I was capable of. Luna West may be human, but there’s some kind of thread connecting us. Call it destiny, fate…or voracious animal hunger. I know she’s bait. She’s meant to tempt me, to make me weak. But even if I could resist her, I’m not sure I want to. Because I’ve never denied my wolf anything…especially the chance to raise some serious hell. And I’m not about to start now.

I absolutely loved this story! I was sucked into this world with the first book, and this one definitely kept that going for me. Kade is the Gray wolf and he follows where he is pulled, which leads him to Luna. I loved their interactions together, the pull and chemistry they have together-all on top of them knowing that something may have forced that connection. I love how the story plays out and how we get more interactions between them and the bad witch. I also absolutely loved the introduction of the new characters and the twist that I thought was it, and then I was right and was left impatient for the next one! I don't want to say a lot, because I don't want to spoil it. But I definitely loved everything about this book and can't wait for the next one!

This was a very gripping and entertaining read. Intense, action-packed, suspenseful and twisty, this book kept me hanging on every word. Kade and Luna had great chemistry and their banter was sharp and clever. It didn't take very long for me to become deeply invested in them and I am very excited to read book three.

Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5)

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I read the preceding book in this standalone, interconnected series, Taming the White Wolf, and absolutely loved it. So I just knew Protecting the Gray Wolf would deliver, and may I say…it absolutely did!

For me, this story was an easy, quick read with great pacing. There was so much going on beginning with a setup from the White Wolf that turns into the Gray Wolf, Kade, doing his best to resist the meticulous, measured, and very tempting artist, Luna. These wolves have their innate need to mate, so the steam factor in the story did not disappoint!

Full of action, thrill, spice, and mystery, Protecting the Gray Wolf is really an exciting paranormal romance. The author does a fabulous job with this genre/subgenre, so the third installment in this series, the Black Wolf’s story, is really calling to me now.

Kade is a lone wolf who hunts rogue wolves who break pack laws. He's supposed to be the only one of his kind until he dies and then another will take his place, but there are two others just like him. The white wolf and the black wolf. He's had a few conversations with the white wolf but the black wolf is more elusive. They do know that magic is at work and it is probably a powerful mage that made them all come into power at the same time.

As soon as he meets Luna he feels things for her he never thought possible. But Luna soon finds herself in danger and she calls him to ask for help. He's suspicious but he has to help her because of his feelings for her. They soon figure out that a powerful mage is behind what happened and is after both he and Luna.

Kade has to reach out to the white wolf for help and he is put in touch with a broker who can get things done. Kade and Luna need the help of another mage to undo whatever the evil mage did to her before they can run and try to stay a step ahead of this woman. They think they are safe for a little while but danger finds them and they find themselves backed into a wall.

We find out a lot more about the mage, what she did to bring all three lone wolves awake at the same time and why. We also find out how the three lone wolves have mates when they shouldn't and why. This book gave us a lot more answers and by the end we know who the elusive black wolf is but neither the gray or white wolf does. That was a fun surprise revealed. I'm really looking forward to the next book now. I cannot wait to see how this plays out and who the black wolf's mate will be. I do hope all the lone wolves get together to fight this evil mage.

Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved how Walters took us even deeper into the conspiracy. Not only do we get to fall in love with a new couple, we get a glimpse into the true evil that is hunting them.

Kade spent his entire adulthood alone. For 85 years he was a hunter, taking out rogue wolves and protecting his kind and humanity. Now he was the one being hunted and with magic at play, his distrust of others had reached a whole new level. When he found his other half in Luna, he didn't know whether to give into the pull of their connection or resist it because it was borne of darkness.

And I understood his hesitation. I don't know of anyone who would want to be manipulated, playing right into the hands of their enemies.

But there was no denying the spark and everything that could grow between these characters and what they had was the true magic of this story.

I just want my lone wolf babies to get together and take these bad guys out. The black wolf, Dagen, has definitely intrigued me and I am so excited to see what happens in his story. Anyone want to put me out of my misery and tell me when I can get my hands on his book?

Against all odds, Kade and Luna have to learn trust in order to survive. Book 2 in the series starts quickly with minimal buildup. The tension and the danger just seem to jump and their chemistry is very apparent. Kade's position as hunter and Luna's profession as artist are not so dissimilar - both require concentration, passion and perseverence.

Protecting The Gray Wolf by N.J. Walters is book two in the Lone Wolf Legacy Series. This is the story of Luna West and Kade Alvarez. I am a fan of Ms. Walters writing so this was a must have for me. Enjoyed it!

Second in trilogy of standalone interconnected paranormal stories with thrill beyond measure
In this supernatural world there are three Lone Wolves where there historically had only been one at a time. The White Wolf aka Devlin Moore has just encountered a major threat to his and their existence (first book in trilogy). He knows that the Gray Wolf is next. One-hundred-year-old Kade Alvarez is appropriately named as his hair and eyes are the color of gray and intense. Devlin has told him to go to an art gallery. There he will find a link to his future. Will she be his defender or his nemesis? Devlin was not all that clear.
An artist and an employee of the art gallery 24yo Luna West is a loner who paints picture after picture of a gray wolf. The owner of the gallery, Chelsea has grudgingly allowed Luna to put one of her paintings in the exhibit albeit virtually hidden away on the upper floor in the back. However, it calls to Kade. Because of it, he meets Luna and our story begins. The trials and anguish they go through are amazing but the fact that they survive is astounding. These werewolves are up against a powerful mage who wants what they have: immortality. If you like edge-of-your-seat excitement and passion within a paranormal world, you must read this book. It starts off strong and remains that way. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Entangled/NetGalley.

this is book 2 in the series which has it's own twist on the werewolf mythology. the author does a nice job of providing the series worldbuilding and overall plot so those who read book one have a refresher and new readers aren't lost. the book would stand fairly well on it's own but, naturally, having read the prior book in the series would provide better insight/enjoyment (the author did manage to avoid any major spoilers for book 1 so new readers could back track). I appreciated that the main characters held on to some wariness but also didn't over fight the instant attraction between them. The author did a good job of showing the connection between Luna and Kade as well is growth to something more and deeper. There was plenty of action to keep the plot (and romance) moving forward to the battle between the couple and the mage. Luna and Kade both had strengths and complimented each other well making a for great couple. The author's little teasers during the story about the book 3 and the final lone wolf has me looking forward to the next book.

I have said it before, and I will say it again….I love, love N.J. Walters wolves. I cannot get enough of them, she cannot write fast enough for me when it comes to any of her wolf series, and this one is no exception. It’s so addicting, and I can never get enough. If you read the previous book, you know that normally there is only one immortal lone wolf in their world, but for some reason there are three right now, the white wolf, the gray wolf and the black wolf, and this book is the gray wolf’s, Kade Alvarez, which we also got to know a little bit in the first book aka the white wolf’s book. Being immortal always comes with a price, or prices in this series. And there aren’t just wolves in this series, there are other supernaturals as well, and they don’t always play nice if you know what I mean. This is definitely a cutthroat world, where every person is for themselves, and trust no one, because not everyone is as they seem. Kade follows his inner voice, and ends up in an art gallery staring at a painting of himself as a wolf….and so their journey starts….enjoy the journey, because it’s quite the roller coaster ride….you’re welcome.

Fantastic and addicting storyline, I really can’t get enough, it’s just so good. Lots of twists and turns, with a side of soulmate romance. Safe read with mates, an epilogue that will have you saying wtaf, and a hea.

I absolutely love this series! I can’t get enough.
Kade and Luna’s chemistry is fire. As much as Kade wants to deny the connection at first, it becomes obvious very quickly that he can’t.
Much like the first book, the Mage Solange is using the mate bond to try and steal the lone wolf immortality. This story has a few new twists for us. I can’t wait for the black wolf! I think I know who his mate is 😉😄.

Explosive Chemistry

The second story in this series which can be read as a standalone is just as exciting as the first.

Kade had been a loner since the day he became the legendary Gray Wolf. He knew forces were working against him and the other wolves to take them down but something drew him to a gallery in New York where his fate awaited him!

For years Luna had been dreaming of a Gray Wolf and she knew that it was her destiny to save him.

With evil around every corner, the race is on to save them both and stop evil from taking over.

A fast paced paranormal read with lots of sizzle, action, magic and a plot that will keep you glued to the pages.
Recommended Paranormal Read!

I've never read this author before but this was a really good book. Great character building and captivating storyline. I will order from this author again.

I was really excited to dive into a wolf story since I've heavily read fae stories lately. I liked the concept but not so much the delivery. The Main female character was very back and forth with how she'd seem juvenile and then more adult like. The spicy scenes were just ehh. The idea of the lone wolf was great but I wish the characters were more developed.

That was so, so, so, so, good!!! Lots going on, but easy to follow, and every time something goes right, something else goes horribly wrong. This legend and these wolves, they are so interesting and complex, and all the new things we learn, the more it makes you want to know everything. Smart, intriguing, fast-paced, heated, and completely engulfing, loved, loved, loved every second of this story <3

We have Kade and Luna. Kade spends his whole existence protecting others from rogue wolves. With him be hunted now, he finds Luna. Luna works in an art gallery and when Kade walks in its instant connection. Kade being not a trusting one doesn’t know if he should give in to his basic instincts. Magic has a play in their connection but as they spend time together, they can’t denie it anymore. It was suspenseful but sweet and loving.

Can’t wait to see what happens next with , the black wolf!

Get ready to sink your teeth into a paranormal romance like no other with 'Protecting the Gray Wolf' by N.J. Walters! This ARC had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, with a plot so captivating I couldn't put it down. Walters has woven together a story that's part mystery, part romance, and all adrenaline-pumping action. The narrative flow is as smooth as silk, effortlessly carrying you through each twist and turn.

But let's talk about the characters—oh, how they shine! Our protagonist is fierce, determined, and utterly irresistible, while the love interest is mysterious and utterly swoon-worthy. Their chemistry leaps off the page, adding an extra layer of excitement to an already gripping tale.

Sure, there were a few moments where I wished the pacing picked up a bit faster, but honestly, that's just a minor quibble in the grand scheme of things. Overall, 'Protecting the Gray Wolf' gets a resounding 4 out of 5 stars from me! If you're a fan of paranormal romance with a dash of spunk and excitement, this book is an absolute must-read. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
