I absolutely loved this book. It is a standalone but I definitely can’t wait to sink my teeth into the other two wolf books( white and black).
✨paranormal romance
✨magic
✨thrill
✨fated
✨werewolf
✨spicy
It is spicy 🌶️ but not over the top. The lengths they’ll go for each other was perfect.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Entangled Publishing for this fantastic book!

This book is the second in a three part series. It can be read as a stand alone book without to much difficulty, but you are going to want to read book one, if you haven't already, because it is just as good as book two.

I love romance stories and werewolves are so hot! I fell in love with Kade and Luna. The characters are vivid and engrossing. Their story is addicting! I just loved this book and am so ready for book three!

Highly recommend!

Book 2 in the Lone Wolf series follows the Gray Wolf, Kade, and his human mate, Luna. The White Wolf was able to escape the clutches of a Mage working with a wolf to gain immortality...the Lone Wolves' immortality. When Kade meets Luna he knows immediately that she was made for him. They both know it, but are both cautious and watching them fight it is the sweetest torture. The mistrust and weight of their situation doesn't do them any favors, but Kade realizes quickly that they're better together. Now if he can only convince her of it. A lot of action in this one and holy moly that reveal at the end!!!

Absolutely loved this book!! I couldn't put it down. This is a new to me author and I am about to jump head first into her entire catalog!! This book was GREAT!! I loved the "lone wolf' aspect and the name Kade!! I can't wait for book 3, I think it will be my fav. Eventhough this is book 2, I don't feel the "need" to read book 1, BUT I AM!! Hoping book 3 comes out soon, I can't wait to get to know the black wolf....I already have some theories!

Modern paranormal wolf-shifter romance with a unique magic system, sparking attraction, fated mates, dark magic attacks, and danger. The immortal shifter-wolf has a cocky, stubborn, bounty-hunter feel; while the leading lady is artsy, out of her depth, yet jumps in fully committed- with an inner strength to meet each difficult situation head-on.

The middling of the storyline began to wane and was a difficult hump to push through. Additionally, it was hard to listen to all the monologues, “Should I trust him?” or “Is she part of this plot?”. It felt like they were constantly justifying their choices for themselves and each other. So, yeah, a little less of that.

Otherwise, it was a solid read with a suspenseful storyline, exciting magic, and palpable attraction. It is a shifter series, so naturally, it has steamy physical scenes. They can be skimmed and still get a story.

3.4/5-star rating (so close to 4, but not quite there).

Sponsored ARC through NetGalley for an honest review.

I loved Protecting the Gray Wolf. It was action packed, suspense filled and steamy. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Luna and Kade's story was a wild ride with lots of tension. I loved the connection between them and watching how things unfolded. I am loving this series and can't wait to read the next. I have a feeling it's going to be the best one yet. I definitely recommend this as well as the previous one.

3.5 Stars

This is the first book I read in the series, and while it was a standalone and easy to follow, I will be reading the first book to understand more of the White Wolf’s story and details about the mage. “Protecting the Gray Wolf” was a fun read that had paranormal and romance elements that were enjoyable. Aspects that might have had me roll my eyes in other books (unrealistic aspects of a story) were addressed in a way that made it forgivable and went well with the story. Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the eARC.

Second in the Lone Wolf series, this story focuses on Kade Alvarez, the gray Lone Wolf, who along with his brethren are being hunted by an evil Mage and her companion criminal alpha wolf in order for them to steal the Lone Wolves’ immortality. Kade has come to New York on his instinct pulled in by the black magic of his enemies. When he sees Luna West in an art gallery, who has his some of his same hair color and unique eyes, he is drawn inexplicably to her. While HE wants to resist the attraction, Kade’s other self feels more confident about show Luna is to them.

Lone wolves are tasked with policing the Were population taking out rogues and other miscreants to protect these supernaturals from coming under human scrutiny. Kade knows that his pull towards Luna seems suspect, while she has no idea about the world she is being drawn into. Once Kade and Luna meet up, it is clear that more is going on than either understands. When Kade is told what is happening by one of the other Lone Wolves, he must decide whether his intensive feeling for Luna is a trap or a gift to a man who has spent close to a hundred years alone. Luna has her own issues with being alone in the world despite all the advantages of a wealthy family.

Kade and Luna spend most of their time running from their enemies barely a step ahead while trying to figure out if their relationship is real or an illusion caused by magic. The Mage, Solange, and her wolfly accomplice, Charles, have been foiled in their efforts with the White Wolf and are now focused on the Grey Wolf in this book. The ultimate outcome remains to be seen in third book which will feature the Black Wolf.

Protecting the Gray Wolf is both wickedly brilliant and fantastically extraordinary in both its unwavering determination and its breathless passion. There is something wonderful to be said for stories that lift the soul and enthrall the heart. This book proved it could meet that goal and then exceed it in so many delicious ways. I was kept

Luna has patiently and carefully built a life that she treasures and enjoys. Keeping her goals in sight, she moves slowly but meticulously from one milestone to another. It's only when Kade storms into her place of work that the threads of her life being to unravel one confusing situation after another. Kade knows who he is and what he must do. It's not until he sees Luna that he ever begins thinking that there could be more. He knows that is a dangerous line of thinking, and so he does his best to push her away. Will Fate show them that stepping outside of their sheltered lives could be the best thing they could ever do, or will the deadly schemes of others prevail and shred two hearts and obliterate their future?

Kade and Luna's slow and lonely trudge through their hard lives truly broke my heart at all they lost and all they secretly longed for. While life is rarely if ever fair, occasionally we are given a chance at what we truly need and want. It is in those times that we see endless possibilities if we only have the courage to take hold of our desires. Watching Kade and Luna debating and wondering and wishing left me at the end of my seat with bated breath. No matter how careful or deliberate we are, the heart wants what it wants, and it won't be talked out of it by a few well chosen words.

N. J. Walters is a phenomenal author who has clearly knocked it out of the park with this brilliant second book in her fantastic new series. I never tire of listening to the beauty of her heart, absorbing the passion of her soul, and falling madly in love with the words of her mind. They are what I look forward to with each wildly engrossing and heart stopping story that she graces us with. Please never stop writing!

The Gray Wolf is the second of the trilogy of lone wolves.
I had thought the White Wolf would be difficult to match but I was so wrong.
Kade found himself outside a Manhattan Gallery wanting to go inside which was not his kind of place but he knew his prey was inside. Once inside he meets Luna who works there but also has a painting on display which is unbelievably a large Gray Wolf with his tattoo.
Kade realises that she is the woman that is his and is also a trap for him but he can’t help pursuing her to find out if she is as innocent in this as she seems. Solange and Charles have survived from their previous wolf encounter but are as menacing as ever.
This was a very fast read as I couldn’t stop. I loved the meeting and the twist that leads into the final book. I also have some theories on the Black Wolf’s mate!
This is a standalone book but there are references to the other two wolves so you will most definitely be reading the White Wolf if you haven’t already and then waiting impatiently for the final book

If you like shifter romances, you'll enjoy Walter's newest series, 'Protecting the Gray Wolf'! With so many werewolf romances out there - it can be hard to find an original feeling plot, but I enjoyed the concept of the 'keeper' wolves!

This is the second book in this trilogy and oh boy I love it. It’s action packed with evil villains and a smexy love story to die for. Fighting for there lives
Against a foe that will do anything to get what they want.

Kade Alvarez was a the grey wolf. Let into a New York art gallery by his instincts. He meets Luna an artist that he’s drawn to.

All he wanted to do was lay beside her and put his head in her lap. Being with her filled the bottomless, empty void inside him, but their problems couldn’t wait.

Luna has been alone her whole life. Kade call to her on a level she doesn’t understand.

“You’re the light in my darkness.”

Secrets were revealed and oh boy I can’t wait for the next book.

My Thoughts:
Protecting the Gray Wolf is the 2nd book in a semi-interconnected standalone series.

In this one, we follow the gray wolf Kade and his mate Luna while they try to uncover this unusual draw they have to each other while also staying ahead of danger.

Overall the book was enjoyable, but the plot was a bit predictive, however that didn’t take away from their journey and the challenges they faced. I would recommend reading the first book, Taming the White Wolf first, in order to understand the layout of the premise and to understand what and why things are happening, but it’s not technically required.

📌Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for a copy of this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was so excited to read this book, I've been waiting impatiently since I finished Taming the White Wolf. In my opinion this book was just as awesome as the first. We start off meeting Kade Alvarez, a.k.a the gray wolf. He's strong, possessive, stubborn, and suspicious of everything. He's not sure if he believes the story the white wolf told him, but he also knows he'd be a fool to ignore it. This is how he ends up meeting Luna West. She's a talented artist, working at an art gallery. Luna is loyal, determined, independent, stubborn and protective. Once they meet, their worlds are thrown into chaos. They both have serious baggage from their pasts that they're struggling to deal with. We get to see the characters deal with insane obstacles and the growth they have individually and together. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and cannot wait for book 3!

Thank you to N.J. Walters, Entangled, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review Protecting the Gray Wolf.

I loved that this story starts by throwing you right into the tense first-time meeting between our two protagonists, Luna and Kade. There's an instant spark between them, but their past baggage gets in the way of being able to open up. There's some really beautiful about the moment two characters start to shed their armor and expose the vulnerable parts of themselves.

This book is fast-paced with action, mystery, and spice! Protecting the Gray Wolf was my intro to N.J. Walters' world and while I think reading the other novels would add more depth, I definitely didn't feel it was necessary to enjoy this story and understand what's going on. There are some teasers for the next book, which I loved and felt that they added more mystery.

My only criticism is that the villain(s) felt a bit flat to me, and I struggled to connect with the characters' fear of them. Sure, they're super powerful, but their motivation just didn't do it for me.

Overall, I think this was a very fun shifter romance - it had a good blend of plot and spice. I would definitely continue reading the series.

This book has such an interesting lone wolf creation premise that I haven't seen in any books in the same genre. It's an easy book to pick up without having read the first book in the series, but it didn't have the hook at the beginning that I wanted and took a little bit to get engrosed in the story. The plot was fast paced so it keeps you enganged and the ending sets you up to want to read the next book.
Overall it was a fun read and fans of the genre will definitely enjoy it!

This paranormal romance about wolves, mages and magic had me hooked from beginning to end. Super quick read. Love the characters Kade and Luna. Can't wait to see what's in store for the evil mage Solange.  I hope she gets what's coming to her.

Lone wolves are the usually only created one at a time but 85 years ago three lone wolves came into being ....... one white, one gray and one black .
Their role is to police rouge wolves and to keep humans safe and unaware of what lives around them ...... immortal , faster and meaner than the average wolf they are loners , unable to trust anyone .
But someone wants their immortality for themselves and will do anything to gain it ............ they are being hunted by a foe that just might defeat them
This story features the Gray wolf - drawn to New York he knows a trap is being set by the Mage and her wolf partner , but it does not stop him from stepping into it . At the centre of the trap is artist Luna West , who has always been drawn to painting wolves , even dreaming about them .
Can they trust each other , can they survive what is to come ?

This is a shifter book with a difference , fast paced , full of betrayals , with twists and turns around every corner ....... a must read
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own
