Kiki attends a friend's dinner party knowing her ex-fiance will also be in attendance, only for the night to end with him dead - murder or suicide? Initially ruled as suicide, Kiki refuses to believe this and takes it upon herself to investigate.
This was an average thriller, some parts were predictable, and what the author tried to throw in as big twists didn't do it for me. I was not a big fan of the main character, Kiki, and was frustrated with the premise that a woman would go this far to investigate her ex-fiance's death after she was the one who ended it. I also struggled with the romance in this book since it seemed unnecessary and took away from the thriller aspect in my opinion. Overall, it was a quick read and had some good parts, but not my favorite thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for providing me with this ARC.

Katherine "Kiki" Reed decides to attend a party held by a friend of hers in Connecticut. It's not just any party, it will be the first time that she is in the same room as her ex, the man she broke up with right before their wedding. When she sees Jaimie, all seems well but she overhears him saying very negative things about her. Kiki doesn't know what to think and she tries to speak to him once more before he leaves. This turns out to be the last time anyone see Jaimie alive.
Who killed Jamie? Was it a suicide? Join Kiki as she tries to get to the bottom of the story. It's a fun twisty thriller with a bit too much about clothing. There were a lot of great details and scenes that interested me, but I think the tension could have been greater with some of the extra details. But it certainly kept my interest and I did not guess the ending! #harperperrenial #thelasttimeshesawhim #katewhite

I wanted to love this book. It had a great premise and so many (missed) opportunities for suspense. Unfortunately, the pacing was slow, the twists were anticlimactic, and the tension just wasn't there. I also didn't feel many of the characters' reactions were believable nor relatable.

I liked the story and the plot of this book but 1 found Kiki to be annoying whiny. She was very argumentative too. I know that Jamies family. was hurting but I would have never stood there I and let them talk to me the way they did to Kiki. 1 will read more of her books.

—Thank you so much to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the chance to review an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loove this type of books, when our characters have to prove their innocence but everything is at stake, everyone is against them and we don’t even know who to trust or like. It’s crazy! Crazy good!!

Kiki Reed arrives at a friend's dinner party knowing full well it could potentially be incredibly awkward. Earlier in the year, Kiki called off her engagement to Jamie and this is the first time they will be in the same place with their somewhat mutual friends.
Surprisingly, the evening goes well and Jamie seems to have moved on, even bringing a date with him to the party. However, at the end of the night things quickly take a drastic turn when Jamie is found dead in his car on the host's property, with no witnesses having seen what happened.
While the police rule Jamie's death a suicide, Kiki has serious doubts that someone who just adopted a dog would kill themselves. With Kiki renting a house for a few weeks, she takes it upon herself to conduct her own investigation, determined to prove Jamie was of sound mind when he died.
I wanted to love this book, but it was a tough read for me. It read almost like a romance book and not a thriller. The level of suspense for me just wasn't there and I found myself bored and rolling my eyes at various points of the story.

A psychological thriller at its best! Kiki Reed attends a party where she runs into her ex-fiancé, Jamie. Their breakup had been a difficult and heartbreaking one and much to her relief, their encounter was brief and pleasant. After the party ended, the departing guests heard what appeared to be gunshots in the distance where their cars were parked and when they went out to investigate, they found Jamie dead inside his car. A pistol lay on the floor at his feet. After a police investigation, it was determined to be a suicide. Kiki would have none of that. She was determined to find out the truth and launched an investigation of her own. Kiki was not a fan of Jamie’s family because of the way she broke off their engagement. Although they did everything they could to stop her. After she uncovered the deep and dark family issues that may have contributed to Jamie's death, she began to fear for her own life. Fantastic reading, quick pacing, and the reader will never guess the ending. Kate White at her best.

This is a really great book! It didn't even take long to get into the book which I totally love!! I will recommend this to all my friends for sure!

I thought this book was a good whodunnit read. It kept me engaged the whole time!
(I LOVE this book cover)

Kiki attends a party at a friend’s house, while also in attendance is Kiki’s former fiancée, Jamie, who she broke off several months prior. As the guests are leaving the party, a shot rings out, and Jamie is found dead in his car. The police quickly rule it a suicide, but the more Kiki delves into Jamie’s recent behavior, she becomes convinced that Jamie was murdered. The Last Time She Saw Him has a promising (if familiar) plot, but this was a struggle to get through. Most of the dialogue is simplistic, terse and bland, and almost every scene suffers from an unnecessary amount of detail, just about bringing the story to a halt, and sapping any sense of suspense, which was in short supply. I’ve enjoyed this author’s prior books, so this is an outlier of sorts, and I just couldn’t get invested in the characters or the story. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I always love Kate White's books, but this one was a miss for me. I kept waiting for something bigger and thrilling to happen in the story, which did not come. The few reveals along the way were underwhelming, and when the final twist was revealed, I wish more time was given to it to flesh it out some more.

This book review is a conflicting one for me to write. On one hand, I'm incredibly grateful to #netgalley and HarperCollins publishing to give me access to the ARC of this book, which is set to publish May 14th. On the other hand, I wish I had liked this book better.
In my personal opinion, this book had an exciting premise, but I didn't love the way it was executed. There were moments in the book where I connected with the writing and felt like I was right there where she was describing, and then there were moments that felt so choppy and I would just completely disconnect from the story. By about chapter 23, I barely cared anymore who had done it, but I had gone too far not to finish it. By the time I found out who it was, the revelation was just mundane and anticlimactic. The chemistry (or lack there of maybe?) Between the two main characters was weird and disappointing.
Kate White is a new author for me so maybe it was unfair to jump from my favorite author to a new one with the same expectations. Even though I didn't love this book it wouldn't stop me from trying this author again.

I always love a Kate White book. This one did not let me down. It was a "who done it" right up until the end. Her characters are always well developed and KiKi Reed is a good lead. I would definately recommend this book to other readers.

Kiki runs into her ex-fiancé at a party and by the end of the night, he is dead. Did he kill himself because he was heartbroken after Kiki called off their wedding? Or was he murdered?
This book quickly sucked me in. I thought it was going one way and the ending was a twist I didn’t see coming. However, the book dragged and became repetitive. And there were lots of seemingly unnecessary facts and characters. And the ending seemed a little too convenient and implausible.
Overall, I enjoyed this thriller. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial for this ARC!

Kiki Reed is nervous about attending a party where her ex-fiancé, Jamie, will be. The party ends and Jamie leaves. Shortly thereafter a loud “crack” is heard and a car horn blares. Jamie is found dead in his car. The police strongly suspect suicide but Kiki is not convinced and won’t relent until she proves otherwise.
Although this book is a quick read and interested me in the beginning, I quickly became a little bored. Every friendship Kiki has seems sweet as apple pie and she herself is annoying. As soon as she gets vague information she thinks makes sense, she believes she’s solved “the murder”. Her suspicions are disproven until finally the big reveal happens. And, that climax, felt disjointed and unsatisfying.
I believe the premise of this book is a good one and held promise. There’s a secondary story, introduced in the Prologue, that could have added value had it been explored more. However, there’s a romance aspect that felt unnecessary and even a weird supernatural part. It seems everything but the kitchen sink was thrown into this story but none of it was done very well. While I never considered not finishing the book, it’s not one I would recommend, nor does it leave me wanting to read another from the author.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another nail biting story from Kate White. The tenacious Kiki just won't let it go. Be sure you check your window and door locks before falling into this story. It will keep you there for the night!

I had a hard time getting into this book. I mainly think it was because I didn’t really care for the lead character. Also at times it seemed to drag a bit.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this advance copy in return for my honest review.

A classic “who done it”. I wasn’t floored by it but was definitely entertained and intrigued. Although it kept me guessing until the very end, it did feel a bit rushed once it was solved. If you want a good, fast paced, easy to follow thriller than I’d say give this one a go.

Something about the book seemed a little dated. I don’t know if it was the single girl, chicken breast, dinners or the reading on the iPad but it seemed like an older person trying to write about a younger person. That’s not bad, but Some things seemed a little off.
The mystery was fine, but I didn’t quite understand why she was so sure it wasn’t suicide and why the cops would think it was? I just feel like the mystery could’ve been a little tighter. It was pretty obvious what some of the motive could be but took a long time to get there. Didn’t really understand why everybody was weird with Kiki. People do break engagements and he was dead so you feel like people would be nicer to her. I just felt like the book just really didn’t quite come together. I had the pieces but it didn’t really flow.
At point when she’s getting the real estate info from a friend, she refers to Liam as Eric I don’t know if that was supposed to be a joke or it was a mistake, but it stood out. I also thought it was weird that Ava served her clementines and chocolate chip cookies for dessert and then Kiki also served that as a dessert later on is a typical dessert for people?
I did wonder why the murdered had an unlicensed gun on him when the murder was impromptu? That didn’t make a lot of sense murder or suicide.
Did she ever update her mom on what happened?

Kate White has been on my list of authors to read for a while. I was so excited to receive The Last Time She Saw Him from NetGalley!
Kiki's former fiancée is found dead at a party and all leads point to suicide. While Kiki doesn't believe Jaime could ever do such an act, the family was all but okay with the police declaring it a suicide. Kiki begins to go over Jaime's life with a fine tooth comb. This is where I lost interest. this story was almost painful to read. I couldn't find a common ground with any characters. I just plain didn't care what happened. It all seemed to far fetched and too silly to be an actual story line. Suspension of belief didn't work here at all. The addition of extra characters and extra storylines did not help the story in any way. It just made the whole book longer than it needed to be.
Labeled as a psychological thriller, it is far from that. I guess if you had never read any other psychological thriller it may give you a thrill and be left guessing who did it. But for me, The Last Time She Saw Him will not be filling that cup. I would not recommend this book to others. Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the advanced digital copy in exchange for my honest opinion. 2 stars for me
