This was a quick mystery read. Kiki just can't let it go her ex committed suicide. Author did a good job of throwing shade at several characters. I wasn't close at guessing who killed Jamie or the girl 4 years earlier.

I did enjoy this one, but it the twists didn't wow me. One of the characters at the end, I forgot who they were so that didn't help. But I loved the mystery and suspense of it all and I especially didn't want to put down the book the last 70%. I also felt like there were a lot of repetitive thoughts and questions happening for Kiki throughout the book. The final page of the book felt a little off the way it ended, but I also enjoyed that it ended on a good note. But overall, this book is suspenseful and makes you question every possible suspect.

The Last Time She Saw Him

"The Last Time She Saw Him" is a psychological thriller and romance mystery combined. The story had a good plot, KiKi, the main character at times was a little overwhelming in my opinion. There were a lot of jaw-droppers in this story. All in all it was a very engaging read.

Short Synopsis: A young woman is left reeling after a broken engagement is followed by a shocking death—one she must prove was a murder and not a suicide.

Many thanks to #TheLastTimeSheSawHim #NetGalley & #HarperPaperbacks for providing me with an E-ARC of this book.

Well first I want to thank @netgalley and @harperperennial for the copy of this book so I can leave an honest review.

This book was not what I expected. I struggled with the amount of small details included in this book. I finished it because I was interested in the plot line but I feel like it fell so flat. It wasn’t as “thriller” or even a “romance” truly conflicted to what genre this book would even fall under. There was an allude to suicide so trigger warning. Such a bummer it fell flat too!

The Last Time She Saw Him is a standalone thriller in which career coach Kiki Reed can't accept that her ex-fiancé's death is a suicide. She had just talked to Jamie at a mutual friend's party, and even though their relationship didn't work out, Kiki is devastated by his death.

Kiki continues to look into Jamie's death even when members of his family want her to stop asking questions. Complicating things is Kiki's attraction to Jamie's best friend Sam! Sam is one of the few people who share Kiki's doubts about the official ruling on Jamie's death. The book is full of unlikable characters, even some who are supposed to be on Kiki's side, so at times Kiki isn't sure who she can trust. The story is engaging with a plot twist in the mystery I didn't see coming. The overall ending is a little ambiguous, but I enjoyed the book as a whole.

I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Harper Perennial. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

3.5 stars for The Last Time She Saw Him. The Last Time She Saw Him follows Kiki, as she tries to unravel the mystery of her ex-fiance's death, after they both attend the same party and nothing seemed amiss. The first half, despite the crime occurring early on, was difficult for me to engage with. A bit too much of a slow burn but the second half of the book certainly speeds up. This is a quick, easy read with a couple of twists that keep you guessing to the end. The plot felt a bit uneven at times, while Kiki is trying to investigate the possible murder, she's also dealing with a potentially haunted home and that felt a bit out of left-field for me.

Thank you to and Harper Collins and NetGalley for my advance readers copy.

I love Kate White!

This book has trigger warnings of possible suicide or possible suicide.

We follow Kiki who is trying to solve the mystery of Jaime of whether there was a suicide or not. Kiki does not think it was a suicide and through this whole book we follow her trying to solve this myster.

This book is more of a true crime feel to it but was worth the read.

Thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest thriller by Kate White. All opinions expressed in this review are my own - 4 stars!

Kiki broke up with Jamie right before their wedding. When she's invited to attend a friend's party in Connecticut, she's anxious to go until she learns that Jamie will be there as well. She reaches out to him and he seems fine that she will be at the party. While there, Kiki overhears Jamie talking to a friend about her and tries to talk to him before he leaves. But then a gunshot rings out and Jamie is dead. The authorities rule it a suicide, and Kiki feels that she might be responsible for his despondency. Then questions arise and Kiki decides to stay longer in Connecticut to investigate.

This was a good thriller that kept me intrigued until the end, which I didn't see coming. I did feel that Kiki, a career coach, was too heavily invested in the search for answers, but it made for a good story. There were other little mysteries along the way to keep things interesting. There were quite a few characters to keep track of, but it made for a big pool of suspects.

Title: The Last Time She Saw Him
Author: Kate White

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Kiki attends a friend’s party, she knew beforehand that she would run into her ex-fiance, Jamie. She was nervous about seeing him since she was the one that broke off the engagement. However, her encounters with him at the party were pleasant and seemed to have eased her mind, leaving her feeling better about their situation. Shortly after her last conversation with him, Jamie leaves the party and gunshots are heard. To everyone’s surprise, Jamie is found dead and the police rule it a suicide. Kiki won’t accept that Jamie committed suicide and decides that she needs answers since the alternative means that she would feel responsible for his suicide. She decides to investigate herself and won’t stop until she figures out what happened to Jamie.

This was a quick read and definitely kept me hooked from the very beginning. I thought it was unrealistic that the police went along with the suicide theory so quickly, but it didn’t keep me from wanting to know more. I definitely found myself turning pages and I had a few different thoughts about what happened to Jamie and how it all connected to another murder that happened in the past. There were enough red herrings to keep me from figuring it all out. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future!

Kiki Reed broke her engagement to Jamie Larsson. She knows that she broke his heart, but she felt it was necessary.

Fast forward into the future. Mutual friends of Kiki and Jamie are having a party at their Connecticut home. Kiki and Jamie are able to be cordial to one another, but there is still a coolness to their behavior. Later in the evening Jamie leaves and shortly thereafter they hear a gunshot and then a horn blowing. Jamie is found dead in the front seat of his car from a gunshot wound. The police rule that it was self-inflicted and want to close the books on the case. They are adamant that crime is almost non-existent in this town, so there is no possible way that someone else did this.

Kiki refuses to believe that Jamie would take his own life. His family has accepted the police findings, but Kiki is like a hungry hound. She is determined to prove that he did not die by his own hand, but that someone killed him. She does not believe that this man had lost his will to live.

This was a good mystery with some twisty turns in it. I enjoyed reading it. However, I felt a little restless after reading it. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop because the ending was not what I expected. I just feel like something was missing. Maybe it is just me. It held my attention well enough that I could not put it down. I think I just wanted to see some more resolution to some issues and relationships. I still give it a solid four stars because it was a very interesting mystery.

Thank you to Harper Perennial Books and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I always feel bad when a book just doesn’t work for me. This started strong with the mystery of Jamie’s death but then I quickly lost interest. It just never fully went where it could have. I thought the culprit was pretty obvious from early on even with the additional list of suspects. Kiki was extremely naive, a bit self centered and made some questionable choices which is something that I don’t love for a MC. I did enjoy the setting and the clausterphobic feel of the town. I think this will work for others who prefer a slow burn mystery.

Suicide or murder? When Jamie dies from a gunshot setting, everyone seems to think it was suicide except Kiki, his ex fiance. I found the characters not very likeable. Kiki and her actions were crazy. Some surprises throughout but just an okay story.

A triggering topic in this book, so be forewarned before diving in: mention of suicide or possible suicide. In fact, this is the whole premise of this thriller. Kiki Reed is trying to solve the mystery of her ex-fiancee Jaime. When he is found shot in his car, after leaving a party, it is determined his death was by suicide. But was it? A devastated Kiki does not think so. Kiki actions are wild and mostly unbelievable as she tries to get to the bottom of this mystery.
This is more entertainment than a true mystery/ thriller but enjoyable nonetheless. A non-violent breezy mystery that is perfect for a light summer read.

Kate White does not disappoint when it comes to thrillers -- although I had a fairly good sense of where this one was going, it was still interesting and a quick read. I was hoping for some other twist at the end but it's always nice to be a bit surprised by an ending because of a lack of a twist. Give this one a try if you like thrillers!

The Last Time She Saw Him comes out next week on May 14, 2024 and you can purchase HERE.

I shouldn't have come to the party tonight. I had some misgivings as soon I accepted the invitation, and they only grew today as I drove from Manhattan and checked into the inn. Now, as I stand on the front stoop of my friend Ava's house, the qualms are suddenly strong enough to make my stomach twist. It's too soon for me to be here. It will be excruciatingly awkward. People will start buzzing the moment they spot me.

This book was a great read. I get excited just to open up a Kate White book for the first time.

"The last time she saw him" was no exception.

Kiki Reed has recently broken up with her boyfriend Jamie, and tonight at a party in Connecticut she expects that Jamie will be there also, which he was, but the confrontation - although akward - went well.

Then the guests heard a gunshot outside, and found out Jamie was dead, and the police ruled it suicide. Kiki knew this did not seem like something he would do.

She took it upon herself to prove it was not suicide but murder This decision also puts herself in the crosshairs.

There was also a romance in Kiki's life, Sam, but he was cold, a cardboard person, who slowly warmed up, even after their chilling meeting.

This mystery and the tension was palpable, just becaused it appears as a suicide. doesn't make it true, Don't jump to conclusions!

The story is seen through Kiki's eyes, and a great read. Sit back, relax & enjoy!

Buy one for yourself and a friend.

Kate White is an automatic read for me but this one fell flat. The story didn’t seem realistic and I was a bit bored reading it. The storyline with the best friend of the ex fiancé felt forced and awkward. I’ll still read anything by Kate White but this one was a miss for me

Harper Perennial and Paperbacks And NetGalley sent me an ebook in exchange for an honest review - thank you both!

My review may come off as harsh, but I found this book to be boring. I’m normally a fan of this author, but this story left a lot to be desired, I was not a fan of the main character and most of the twists and turns have been done in multiple other books. I found this book to be predictable. It was a quick and easy read, but I could have sat it down at any time and never felt a longing to pick it back up. As a reader, I was never able to connect to any of the characters, didn’t feel drawn in by the (lack of) suspense, and didn’t feel entertained. Have you ever had to read a book for a course or felt obligated because it was your book club’s monthly pick? That is exactly how I felt reading this.

I enjoyed this book! It was a little hard to believe the story would ever go like this, also why is this woman the most invested in finding the truth about her potentially murdered or suicidal ex? I know you still care about people when they’re no longer in your life, but she cares more than his BFF and his family? I think that is the part to me that felt pretty extra. Overall an easy, quick, attention grabbing read. I’d say like 2.75 ⭐️, rounding up
