A man is dead who is thought to have committed suicide but his finance is convinced he was killed. This was a pretty fast read and I thought it was just ok. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review.

Kate White's newest psychological thriller follows Kiki who is left distraught when she finds out her ex-fiancé is dead, to what looks like a suicide but there's something about it that doesn't make sense to KiKi.
I enjoyed this book a lot. The atmosphere was stunning, and it was really easy to follow. There weren't a lot of moments where I felt overwhelmed with the storyline, characters, or setting which ultimately made the story enjoyable.
Most of the chapters ended with cliffhangers and had me on the edge of my toes throughout!
Overall this was a good read!

I was so excited about this book and do think it was well written and unique in terms of situation and characters. However if I’m honest it didn’t quite land for me. It seemed almost too polite and everything wrapped up a little too neatly. I appreciated that it was a quick and easy read though and always enjoy trying new suspense/mystery authors.
Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read an advanced copy of this book!

this was an okay psychological thriller, but the main character was so trusting and infuriating. she made so many dumb decisions that it just made me angry. also, i felt like some of the conversations were very unnatural which took me out of the story. there were some good twists, but the beginning of the book was so drawn out and then the reveals felt rushed. overall, not my favourite, but not terrible!

thanks to harper perennial and netgalley for my advance copy of the last time she saw him by kate white. all opinions are my own.

A woman runs into her ex-fiancé at a party, whom she ended things with a few months earlier. While their interaction is slightly awkward, he seems to have moved on since the split. But later that night, he’s found in his car with a gunshot wound. Authorities are quick to rule his death a suicide, but she’s convinced he would never take his own life and takes it upon herself to investigate.
I really enjoy Kate White’s writing style and couldn’t put this one down. So many fun plot twists and great suspense.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

As a long-time Kate White fan, I was so excited to read THE LAST TIME SHE SAW HIM and was not disappointed! Kiki was a relatable and sympathetic narrator, as she tries to unearth what happened. Really enjoyed the plot and multiple twists but wish the ending had been a bit longer. The wrap up happened in a matter of pages and would have been nice to have some additional details.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Paperbacks for the opportunity to read and review THE LAST TIME SHE SAW HIM.

This was such a great read! Kiki Reed, a successful businesswoman, leaves New York to go to her friend's housewarming party in Connecticut. She dreads it given that her ex-fiance, Jaimie, will be in attendance. The party goes surprisingly well, until everyone hears a gunshot as they prepare to leave and find Jaimie dead in his car. The police are quick to rule the death a suicide, with many of the party-goers pointing the finger at Kiki for breaking their engagement unexpectedly just a few months prior. Determined to prove them wrong, Kiki rents a cottage in the area and begins digging into her ex's family and past. I loved the writing and pacing of this book, but found that the delivery of the plot twists fell a little short to me. I was expecting much more familial drama and juicy secrets to be uncovered after reading the description, and didn't feel on the edge of my seat leading up to the plot twists. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to some of my friends who are thriller fans!

“A young woman is left reeling after a broken engagement is followed by a shocking death-one she must prove was a murder, in the latest psychological thriller from New York Times bestselling author Kate White. It's summer in New York City, but Kiki Reed isn't feeling very sunny. She recently broke off her engagement to Jamie Larsson, a great guy, but just not "the one." And although she knows it was for the best, she feels guilty for hurting him. When Kiki accepts an invitation to a party at a friend's Connecticut country house, she knows Jamie will be there, too, but decides to get their first interaction over with. When they come face to face, their exchange is brief and pleasant, a huge relief for her. Then, as the party is winding down, a shot rings out. The few remaining guests run outside to find Jamie inside his car, dead from a gunshot wound. Shocked and grieving, Kiki soon hears that the police are leaning toward ruling it a suicide, but she knows that Jamie was moving on from their breakup, and truly doubts that he's taken his own life. Determined to find the truth, she rents a house in the area to look for the missing link that will get the police to take her seriously. But as she peels away the layers, she uncovers something far more sinister than she had ever imagined-and it may be her life on the line next...”
This was such an amazing read and I just couldn’t put it down. The writing was phenomenal and the characters were exactly as I expected they would be and I highly recommend reading this.
This was my first book by the author but will definitely not be the last!

The last time she saw him he was alive and seemed to be doing well coping with her breaking off their engagement. But then as everyone is leaving the party, a shot rings out and it appears Jamie has committed suicide. This story follows Kiki as she is determined to find out what really happened.
While I think the plot is good with some twists, the story reads almost as a stream of consciousness in Kiki’s mind. I also believe too many characters are involved and some time is wasted trying to develop them.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was a good read. It’s very slow moving, and not a lot of excitement. I will saw, it was not predictable like a lot of mystery books are. I had no idea until it was revealed who the villain was.

Not the greatest thriller I've read. The scene gets set right away, but the story drags on. Kiki, the main character is trying to figure out the murder of her ex-fiance Jaime. The cops in this story seem to only have 3 brain cells between them all and couldnt be bothered to truly look into the crime scene, which is why Kiki tries to figure it out on her own. The climax of the story isnt there. Very slow build up and it only comes to a hill. I actually grew tired of Kiki because she cried wolf one too many times when she thought she figured out who the killer was. She would throw their names to the police with little evidence or just because she was suspicous of them. The little romance there was in the book was a small simmer, nothing to make it worth even being in the story. The highlight was at the very end with Maverick

I was left feeling very underwhelmed by this book. About halfway through, I started skimming just to get to the end more quickly. I never felt connected to any character, especially the main character (and honestly was annoyed by her nickname, Kiki), and also felt the story was a bit haphazardly thrown together and not believable.
I appreciate NetGalley, Harper, and the author for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kiki Reed has been invited to a party. She hesitates attending as her ex will also be in attendance. In order to not make things awkward, Kiki and Jamie clear the air and manage to have a civil conversation. The party continues, and Jamie leaves. Shortly after, Jamie is found in his car, the victim of an 'apparent' suicide.
Kiki knows that Jamie would never kill himself and she wants to know what happened and will do anything to find out. However, the deeper she digs, the more she realizes that she might be next.

While this plot SOUNDS good, I found it lacking and rather confusing. At times, there was too much information provided and then other times, there wasn't enough details to move the story forward. I feel that this could benefit from some editing. The ending was no surprise and there could have been more leading up to the reveal.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

I received an ARC of this book from Harper Perennial via NetGalley in exchange for my honest feedback. I have read other books by this author which I enjoyed more than this one.
This was just an average thriller to me - nothing awful but nothing super thrilling, either. I didn't really connect with Kiki (also hate her name, though that's not really relevant). I did, however, enjoy the mundane details of her life in both CT and NY - maybe because I am fairly familiar with both locations. I could visualize the scenes where she walked downtown to sit outside and drink wine. At the same time, there was a lot of this meaning a lot of pages where not much was happening.
The sudden announcement that she had feelings for someone else was out of nowhere and odd. And the fact that everyone was convinced that Jamie committed suicide was also not very believable; I would like to think suspicious deaths are investigated in more depth than his was.
There were 2 directions I thought Ms. White was leading us toward, both of which turned out to be wrong, so at least I didn't guess the ending. But I also thought the actual ending was anti-climactic.

The Last Time I Saw Him by Kate White will be published on May 14, 2024. Thanks to Net Galley and Harper Collins Publishers- Harper Paperbacks, I was given an ARC to read in return for a review.
Jaimie and Kiki broke up after a few years of dating. Although the break up surprised Jaimie, they were both moving on with their lives with no contact. One of their mutual friends send wedding invites to both of them, whereas Kiki decides to miss the wedding to not make things uncomfortable and then Jaimie rsvps his regrets due to a work commitment. The bride calls to share Kiki should attend the wedding in Jaimie’s absence. But of course, Jaimie cancels his work trip and will be attending the wedding with a plus one. Kiki calls Jaime to let him know she will be at the wedding and to apologize ahead of time. They agree they will both attend to support their friends. Jaimie uninvites his plus one and this woman can not take a hint. She attends on her own to disrupt Jaimie’s balance.
The wedding reception proceeds with little awkward moments. Some of Jaimie’s family and friends are chilly to Kiki but for the most part, Kiki realizes she made the right decision in breaking her engagement with Jaimie. They bid a fond farewell and Jaimie heads to his car to go back to his lodging. This is when loud noises are heard and a dead man is located. The cops believe this death was a suicide, but Kiki is sure a murder was committed. Kiki stays in the area looking for clues and shaking up the social strata. Soon Kiki’s own life may be in danger as she starts to connect the dots to the murderer.
This is definitely not an edge of your seat thriller-mystery. The Last Time She Saw Him is a very slow who done it style. The answers are not forthcoming until the very end.

I enjoy a good whodunnit with various red herrings thrown out there. Kate White always does a good job of giving the reader a few different options for the killer. Kiki (awful nickname BTW) attends a party of old friends where she finds herself face-to-face with her ex-fiancé, Jamie. She was the one that called off the wedding, so there are still some hard feelings towards her from Jamie and his family. Shortly after Jamie leaves the party, gunshots are heard, and Jamie is found dead in his car. The police immediately suspect it's suicide and don't really investigate any further. Kiki doesn't believe Jamie would have committed suicide and starts investigating on her own.
This was a quick read, and one that pulls you in right away. It felt a little more like a romantic suspense, than just a thriller. I found Kiki to be a bit annoying... but maybe that was just the nickname for a pretentious white woman. Overall, I was entertained reading it and like the happy ending for the dog.

Usually I’m a big fan of Kate White books but I found this one slow, forced, and predictable. The twists were few and the dialogue felt contrived. Was fast-paced and easy to read in one gulp.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Perennial and Paperbacks for the opportunity to read this ARC.

Thank you for this ARC! When I read the synopsis, I was intrigued!
This story was easy to follow. Full disclosure, I found the main character insufferable. I couldn’t connect with her. She just irked me, but it did not deter me from finishing the story.
The romance component was a little forced in my opinion, yet I can see the role it played.
Look forward to see what comes next for the author!

I’m a huge fan of Kate White, and I’ve really loved every book of hers I’ve read.
This one was no exception! Kiki was engaged to Jamie and was at the point of looking at wedding dresses when she broke the engagement. Now she’s back in his neck of the woods, having been invited to a party given by her close friend Ava. she knows that Jamie will be there, but he’s said it’s okay if she attends. Towards the end of the party a shot rings out, and Jamie is found dead in his car, an apparent suicide.
Kiki is unable to let go of the idea that Jamie wouldn’t have killed himself. She starts to ask questions, trying to find out what happened. Jamie’s best friend Sam helps her, and things heat up as she gets closer and closer to the truth.
I was all in through the whole story, and I finally figured out the culprit just shortly by the book’s end.
4.5 stars rounded up! My gratitude to HarperCollins and NetGalley for the complimentary digital copy. My review is voluntary.

There was a lot for me to enjoy as I love a good “Who dunnit”. Likable characters mixed with a few that were not, red herrings, and beautiful Connecticut scenery are the backbone but also includes a mini romance and good food. Did I mention a cute dog too? This was the perfect balance in my opinion. If you’re looking for a book that’s not over the top or too violent, this may be it. There were tense moments anchoring me to the story and surprises along the way. Who killed Jamie? Was it a suicide? Join Kiki as she tries to get to the bottom of the story. It's a fun twisty thriller with a bit too much about clothing. There were a lot of great details and scenes that interested me, but I think the tension could have been greater with some of the extra details. But it certainly kept my interest and I did not guess the ending!
