Another perfect summer read by Nancy Thayer. Set on Nantucket, the Grant family comes together, as one sister is opening a new store, the other, home to help. They are overcoming their grief having lost a brother, their mother leaving them, and a move to a new place previously. Eddie's boss, Dinah, is a funny character who adds to the story. Dove, their brother's former girlfriend, and her son appear and the family is pulled together even more. Add in a little drama, some romance, all's well that ends well, and there you have it.
Thanks to NetGalley, Ms Thayer, and Random House for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Summer We Started Over by Nancy Thayer published by Random House is a definite summer beach read! Thayer weaves the characters stories and personalities together in such a way that the reader eventually feels a part of the family.. Set on Nantucket, Thayer’s descriptions of the local sites and places takes the reader on a vacation.I loved this book: the characters, their individual stories of ups and downs, how they overcame their difficulties, and of course the setting.

I adore Nancy Thayer and her books are one of my must-reads every summer!

The Summer We Started Over is another one of Thayer's books set on Nantucket and follows two sisters for a summer on Nantucket. Eddie is the oldest and has returned for the summer to help Barrett with their father who has been down ever since moving to Nantucket after his wife left him and their brother died.

Eddie is working as an assistant to a famous author and is looking forward to the break from her needy employer while Barrett is finally making a lifelong dream a reality and opening a store on the island.

The story is a good one but I found that at times the timeline seemed a bit murky as time would pass but yet it'd still be Memorial Day weekend or whatever but that's mostly a me problem because I'm weird about timelines.

Otherwise it was a good meandering story and I enjoyed my time spent escaping from winter reading this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine for an eARC copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you NetGalley for the complimentary eBook for reviewing purposes. This review is 100% my opinion of the title, The Summer We Started Over by Nancy Thayer.

Great read! Five stars! ✨

Growing up in a not so perfect world and one sister takes off to the city life, while the other stays behind. Also, a brother who falls in love with his sister’s best friend, Dove who also has a rough road and is forced to leave her home. Eddie returns home to Nantucket to enjoy a nice vacation with family and reconnects with her sister, Barrett. She’s stirred up by past memories after returning home and realizes how much she’s missed the island, but her life is in NYC.

Perfect book for the beach. It has happy times, family reconnecting, sad times, new adventures for all the characters, picaresque moments and mostly it has family and love!

A quick beach read. Thayer paints a gorgeous picture of Nantucket. I found myself rooting for Eddie, Barrett and William to come out on the other side of their grief. Dinah added a dash of sass and humor. While I enjoyed the book, I often found myself feeling like I missed something, as if the story was not complete and the story skipped around a little.

This is a wonderful multigenerational story from Nancy Thayer that will make a perfect summer (or anytime) read. It’s full of love, heartbreak, family drama and more. Plus this all takes place on the beautiful island of Nantucket! What more could you want?

My second read by this author.
I knew it would be good but I didn't think it'd be this good!
A heartwarming story of two sisters that I really enjoyed very much. I finished this story in a couple of hours.
My favorite thing about this story is the setting of course. It is great to be back on Nantucket!
I thought Eddie was an unusual name for a girl and I laughed at first. As I read on however I finally decided it fit her perfectly laugh out loud.
I don't however like insta romances. I for one would enjoy getting to know a person first. But that's just me.
I feel like Barrett is more like me in a lot ways. I could totally connect with her.
In my opinion it is fast paced and with loveable characters. William is my favorite character.
5 stars for a well written story with rounded out characters and a gorgeous setting!
I highly recommend.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Nancy Thayer has herself another Nantucket winner. This one is about two sisters, Eddie 9named for Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Barrett, after Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The reason for their names becomes obvious when we learn that their father was a professor of romantic poetry.

Before I say more, I have to note with pleasure that Ms. Thayer has much reduced her use of high ponytails ( only two, both on the sisters), messy buns (none) and only the required number of sundresses. Happily, there is only one wearer of board shorts. As always, we have Nancy Thayer's product placements of names of island coffee shops, restaurants, and Ben and Jerry ice cream. And, of course, description of every meal eaten by her characters.

That off my chest, this is a lovely and moving story. And it has a wonderful character, Dinah Lavender, who is a best selling author of romance fiction. Dinah is eccentric and quirky and comes to live with the girls and their father in their old farmhouse. Barrett has just realized her dream of opening a shop selling handmade and unusual items in shades of blue.

In the course of that summer, many things change. Ideas about what the sisters want for their futures and acceptance of how these desires can become different. Then Dove, their best childhood friend reappears in their lives and becomes one of the most moving parts of the story. Also, you can probably guess early on what happens between William, the father and Dinah. I found the dog, Duke, and Duchess, the standoffish horse particularly delightful,

This is one of those Thayer books that gets its hooks into you quickly and keeps you reading to the foreseeable ending.

Thanks to NetGalley and the ;publisher for the chance to read an early copy of what is bound to be another best seller for Nancy Thayer.

Five plus stars from me for The Summer We Started Over. Nancy Thayer does it again with a Nantucket based beach read. The Summer We Started over is a story of family reconnection, a used bookstore in a barn and a romance novelist. It's a can't put downable book.

My thanks to #Net Galley for giving me the opportunity to early read this book in return for a fair and honest review.

What a wonderful story! Love, loss, and starting over on the beautiful island of
Nantucket . I loved everything about this book! The characters were all wonderfully developed and each had their own small story. The perfect summer read.

This is a beautiful, poignant story that touched my heart from the very beginning. The more I read, the faster I turned the pages, and until the last page was turned, it was nearly impossible to put down.
Eddie, whose name is actually Edna, has not taken time off from work for over two years. She is a personal assistant to Dinah Lavender, a famous romance writer. Eddie lives in Dinah’s upscale Park Avenue apartment, travels the world with her, wears designer clothes and makes a six- figure salary. She misses home and feels it is time for a trip to Nantucket to see her dad and sister, Barrett. Dinah is not happy about her being gone but agrees to a couple of weeks.
Upon her parents’ divorce, their dad bought an old farm house in Nantucket, resigned from his professorship at Williams College and both his daughters decided to move with him to help him get settled. Their mother left with another man and moved out of the country.
The house is over-run with their dad’s books, and the first project Eddie takes on is to clear them out, suggesting they open a used bookstore in the barn. Eddie’s former boyfriend, Jeff, agrees to build some shelves for the books. While Eddie is busy hauling books out to the barn, Barrett is embarking on her long-time dream of owning her own gift shop. She finally saved enough money to make that dream come true. She is busy preparing for the grand opening. William, their dad keeps himself closed off in his office where he has been writing the same book for many years.
A beloved childhood friend, Tara arrives with her three-year old son, Bobby. She confides she is terminally ill and wants to stay there until the end. She also asks that Bobby be adopted into their family.
Dinah is frequently in touch with Eddie, begging her to come back, claiming she is being stocked by an unknown man, and is afraid. Eddie is not ready to leave Nantucket so suggests Dinah could come there. The very next day, Dinah moves right in.
This book has a multitude of moving parts. Fascinating and unforgettable characters grabbed my heart from the beginning. There are numerous unexpected situations, however, Nancy Thayer brings it all together into a beautiful, cohesive, heartfelt story. When I got to the end, I do not ever recall being so disappointed that a book ended. I wanted to keep reading about these unforgettable characters that by now, felt like friends.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.

Ohhh my heart! I didn’t know I could love a book and its inhabitants so very much! What I would give to have a sisterhood like Barrett and Eddie! This story was so beautiful, so heartfelt, and so deep with feeling that I felt myself transported there with every turn of the page. When the romances and relationship issues were thrown in, I found myself rooting for some and hoping some were cast aside and I was so happy with how things turned out.
As a bereaved mother myself, I found myself particularly drawn to William and Eddie as they used reading to help them through their grief.
The ending had me in tears and also in smiles. It was all so beautiful and bittersweet!

What a beautiful story to read during these dark winter days. The Nantucket setting was beautiful. As someone with a close relationship with her sister, I really enjoyed this story.

This was exactly the book that I needed to read to get me out of the dark days of winter because it so vividly captured the sun and magic of summer in Nantucket. Told through the perspective of two sisters, this book seems like a deeper level of a beach read with great love but also loss and heartache. Definitelt add to your TBR pile this summer! The ending left me yearning to hear more of Eddie and Barrett's story! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 stars

Such a good book! Ms Thayer brings back together members of a family who were mostly dysfunctional and separate. There are many good parts to this book and a few sad parts. Ms Thayer describes the beautiful scenery so well and she makes the characters very likable. I consider this to be Ms Thayer‘s best book yet and she’s written some good ones. Don’t miss this book! I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
