First off, cover of the book caught my eye and I enjoy a summer read. There are domestic and personal issues withing the storyline that could really make a novel a great read.
With that said, I felt this book did not draw me into the story. The depth was not there for me. I could not get attached to any character. But for those looking for a light, quick, pass the time type of book then you should try it.

The Summer We Started Over was another home run written by one of my favorite authors ever - Nancy Thayer!!! Set in Nantucket it is so beautifully written you feel like you are there! The breeze, the sand, the boats, the shops and her magnificent characters grab you at the first page and don't let go! A summer must read!!!!

The Summer We Started Over is the perfect beach read. Eddie Grant has been living her perfect life. She works in New York City as an assistant to a famous romance author. Eddie’s sister, Barrett, is opening a boutique on Nantucket. Barrett asks Eddie to come home and help her with the opening and in caring for their father. Their mother had left him (and them) several years ago. Their brother had also died in a motorcycle crash around the same time. As Eddie steps off the ferry, she runs into her old boyfriend. Obviously she still cares for him. Romance abounds in the book for Eddie, Barrett and also their father. There is sadness too. The Grant family finds a way to start over. The book is well worth a read.

Thank you for the advanced copy! I have read several Nancy Thayer books and love being transported to Nantucket to escape. While this story had beautiful descriptions of the island, it felt a little bit slow in pace and didn’t feel like there was a real story to tell.

I don’t mind ambling stories about day to day life, but what made this one 3 stars for me was the dialogue for the twenty-something characters. I honestly had to pretend this story was set 70-100 years earlier because the language used felt so far from how twenty something’s speak. It was so formal and old fashioned. Overall, I love Nancy Thayer’s books, but this one fell flat for me.

Such an emotional story. I did cry at the end. Eddie needs to go home to Nantucket to help her family. She hasn't been home for a couple of years; her sister is opening a new store, and their dad needs some help. He is still a vibrant man, but he got kind of lost when his wife divorced him, and his son died. So, William, Eddie and Barrett moved to Nantucket where there wasn't a constant reminder of all they had lost. Eddie needs to decide if she will stay on Nantucket with a man she loves or go back to New York and work for a famous author. The characters are colorful and fun. Good story!

This book is true testament to the bond between sisters and family. Eddie is career minded, while Barrett is focused on taking care of their father and trying to achieve her dream of owning a store on the island. The story tells of the love of family and of the sacrifices that are required at times, both big and small. It also speaks to opening the door to love even when it’s not in your plans. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. They felt like friends by the end. . I’d highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a lighter Summer read.

A very good story about family, enjoyed it and was riveted throughout. I was surprised that I couldn't anticipate how it would all wrap up, and I liked to be kept guessing!

Very few details I disliked:
Barrett and Paul talking about marriage so quickly?
The very rapid transformation of Barrett and Eddie's father?
Toward the end of the book, Eddie tells everyone that her and Jeff will be married, but the next day Dinah asks Eddie if there will be a wedding in the future?

This was a cute beach read similar to Thayer’s other books. I love the story’s setting which is of course on Nantucket.

The story involves the love story of three family members who are all dealing with their own personal issues. Together, they are able to heal and move on to new steps in their lives.

Nancy Thayer is one of my favorite authors, she’s the master of the “summer beach read”. This is one of her best books, in my opinion.

From the publisher:
“Eddie Grant is happy with her life and her work as a personal assistant to Dinah Lavender, one of the most famous and renowned romance authors in the business. But being a spectator to notoriety and glamour isn’t as fulfilling as she once thought. Thankfully, Eddie has the perfect excuse, her hardworking younger sister, Barrett, is opening her gift shop on Memorial Day weekend, and could use all the help she can get.
But going home to the beautiful island of Nantucket means facing the family’s difficult past. Shortly after the death of Eddie and Barrett’s brother, their mother left them and their father made the spontaneous decision to buy a small farm. Eddie stayed there for only a year before her family’s grief threatened to consume her as well, and had been living in Manhattan ever since.
Now that she is back, Eddie must face all she left her father’s increased eccentricities, which has led to a house bursting at the seams with books; her sister’s resentment over Eddie’s escape; and a past love connection, one that is still undeniable and complicated, all these years later.“

I loved this intricate family story, where the characters end up in surprising situations and the ending surprised me. 4.5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley, I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I have read several of Nancy Thayer's books and was happy to receive an early copy of her latest, The Summer We Started Over. I love traveling to beautiful Nantucket Island through her books. I won't give a full synopsis because the publishers already do that so well, but I will say that this is a story about people who after suffering a loss are finally put in positions that force them to move forward. The plot was simple and easy to follow, which I always enjoy and appreciate, but it was also a little too predictable. So much so that I found myself speed reading through the last part of the book. I do find it hard to continue to enjoy a book when you can already tell how everything is going to wrap up and you're just waiting on it to happen. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a book with few surprises, a comfortable plot, and a beautiful setting.

Thank you to the author, the publisher, and to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and honestly review this upcoming novel.

One of my favorite authors. I loved the Nantucket setting and I loved the main characters. Some romance, but this book is so much more about family/families. I really thought that is what made this book so much better than just another Summer beach romance. I highly recommend this book!

I wanted to love this but it fell flat for me. It didn’t feel like a Nancy Thayer book (I’ve read them all)! But it did make me want to visit Nantucket!

This was my first Nancy Thayer novel and I loved it. I am not sure why I have not read her sooner but I am excited to check out her other books as well. This book takes place on the island of Nantucket where sister Eddie and Barrett are starting over with their Dad. I love how the book explores the points of view of both sisters as they are struggling to make their way to finding happiness on the island. Eddie has lived n the city the last 2 years as an assistant to Dinah Lavender where she has traveled the world and lived the upscale life. Barrett has stayed on Nantucket caring for their Dad while trying to save for her own store Nantucket Blues.
The summer quickly gets complicated for Eddie when she sees an old flame and Dinah decides she will come to Nantucket with her. Will Eddie get the rest she needs and be able to help her sister with her store and Dad?
Nancy Thayer writes beautifully this is an enjoyable beach read that will remind you of the importance of family and happiness where you least expect it.

Nancy Thayer’s latest, The Summer We Started Over, transported me back to the beautiful island of Nantucket. Having spent time on Nantucket, as well as Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island, the memories of island life came flooding back, especially the dynamics between the islanders and the “summer” islanders. Barrett and Eddie were the perfect characters to showcase starting over, as well as William and Dinah. Much of the storyline was predictable and somewhat formulaic but it was a very enjoyable read…the perfect beach read. The beauty of the island definitely shown through, especially Miacomet Pond. Nancy Thayer’s books put me in the mood for a beach vacation.
Many thanks to Nancy Thayer, Ballantine Books, and NetGalley for providing me with an arc of this recently published book. Three and a half stars.

Eddie Grant loves her life as an assistant to author Dinah Lavender in NYC, but decides to return to Nantucket to help her sister, Barrett, as she opens a boutique store on the island. After losing their brother and their mother leaving the family, Eddie’s and Barrett’s father moved them to Nantucket and buried himself in books. Eddie hopes a trip back to Nantucket is just what her and her family need this summer.

I’ve been a fan of Nancy Thayer’s books for more years than I can count, and I really enjoyed her newest novel! Full of likable, relatable characters and an idyllic beach backdrop, this book delivers Hallmark-esque vibes. Though I’ve never been myself, I love visiting Nantucket through books, and it’s one of my favorite settings for a novel. This is a heartwarming, feel-good story, and the perfect beach read!

Thank you NetGalley and Ballantine Books for my gifted e-copy!

Feel Good summer reading at its finest! Nancy Thayer is a master of this, of "painting" beautiful settings with words, and of weaving together a delicious story with memorable characters! Coming back home. Coming full circle. Coming together. Letting go. Starting fresh. Starting over.I finished this book yesterday and found myself thinking about the characters and the story today; I wanted to get back to it and was somewhat disappointed when I remembered I'd finished. Thats the mark of a good story. #BeachRead

I look forward to my summer Nancy Thayer books, but this one was a bit disappointing. Eddie and her sister Barrett moved to Nantucket with their father, William, after the death of their brother and the divorce of their parents. Eddie left Nantucket to work for a famous author, returning for vacation as Barrett is opening up a boutique. Both women begin relationships, but they are fast tracked and a bit unbelievable to me. There are some issues that give depth, and the story was easy to follow. Not my favorite of this beloved author. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
