Samara finally has the job of her dreams, working alongside a famous fashion designer. Without hesitation Samara jumps at the chance to leave her home in Jersey behind for new exciting adventures in California. Samara is immediately thrown into chaos at her new position, with a large fashion show to prep and plan for looming on the horizon. As the stress of work begins to build haunting voices and strange sounds begin to be heard in the night. To cope Samara turns to self medicating with alcohol and pills but to her dismay the sounds are soon then accompanied by disturbing visions. Could this just be explained away as anxieties of a new environment or is it something more, something supernatural.
Tiny Threads is a supernatural suspense thriller that touches on the darker side of the fashion world. Reading this book was like a fever dream, you spend much of your time questioning if Samara is going into full blown Psychosis or if the gruesome visions are real. As far as pacing I felt like some of the chapters end rather abruptly making it feel choppy. I do think that some of that is due to the books shorter length and I personally would call this more a novella. The plot did keep me turning pages though and I was able to finish this read very quickly. So many of the plots points feature relevant and dark realities of factory work and showcase people in positions of power use of abuse in order to achieve compliance. It made for an intriguing juxtaposition to have this world alongside supernatural horrors. However I do feel that these points would be more impactful if greater detail had gone into featuring them, for instance I wanted to see more of the toxic underbelly of this fashion world. Again I feel the length of the book makes this harder to accomplish. There are also trigger warnings that that I feel readers would benefit from knowing ahead of time such as violence, blood, gore, s.a, r**pe, drug use, and excessive alcohol use.
Tiny Threads comes out August 27, 2024.
