In Lipstick & Camera Clicks, Indigo, or Indie for short, is a character who recently ended a toxic relationship after discovering she had been cheated. She reconciles with two best friends (one of whom was her childhood love) and enrolls in a dating reality show as a form of revenge. She meets Kade there, and she finds him attractive as well. Though I couldn't decide between River and Kade, the messy trio truly had me rooting for a throuple!

This was a quick read that drew you in and kept you interested until you realized how it ended. I enjoyed the ending and can't wait to see what other characters are made into books! Looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Likes - I liked the dialogue within the book. I enjoyed the epilogue, it was cute and sweet. Especially the group chat.

Disliked - I felt the characters were all very immature. It felt like they were all high schoolers instead of in their twenties.

3, 5⭐️

First of all, thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for the ARC

"Lipstick & Camera Clicks" by D.J. Murphy is a friends-to-lovers love triangle romance book.

I have to say that I have conflicting thoughts about this book.
I liked the fact that it was fast-paced and the reality show setting.

SPOILERS

However, I didn't feel a particular connection with Indigo and River’s romance. I would have probably liked to read some flashbacks to feel more attached to them.

While the romance didn't feel like a love triangle, I still enjoyed Kade as a character and can't wait to read his book.

This one was so cute and lighthearted and sweet!! I loved it!! Love the triangle, love the show, love everything. I never stop thinking about this book. I was always trying to figure out how it would end, and what decision was better for our beautiful FMC. You need to read this one honestly.

Thank you Netgalley and the author for gifting me a e-copy in exchange of my honest review.

I LOVED THIS!

The fact that we get to see the inside of 'the bachelor' was honestly awesome. I loved that we got more behind the scenes than actual on scene content.

Our FMC is just wanting to be there for one of our MMC's, the blurred lines between friendship and romantic relationship is not something we see on the regular and I was here for it.

This book is about Indigo Johnson and the upheaval of her life following a messy, but necessary break up with a “newly” famous influencer. Instead of sulking and licking her wounds, Indie decides to confidently change the narrative for herself and social media by joining a dating show! She gets mixed up in a complicated love triangle with her childhood best friend, River, and the star of the show, Kade.

I requested this book looking for a romance, but hunnyyyyyy the drama and complex characters are what made me stick around. The characters in this book are so dynamic and diverse across various identities and worldviews! I feel like my inner teenage self was SO pleased with this story and enjoyed it a lot. This book had all the things: some steamy smut, messy drama, hot male characters, diverse villains, and good friends.

I truly enjoyed every minute of reading this one - there were parts that made me giggle and kick my legs in the air like a school girl, gasping for air, and literally having to put the book down because of pure shock!

ARC provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op ❤️ thanks so much to D.J. Murphy for writing this one! #netgalley #advancereadercopy

Indigo is a 20 something living in LA with her current boyfriend, Javi, who she recently found out is cheating on her rather publically with one of her friends. She had distanced her self from her childhood friends Ryan and River (sister and brother) because of her relationship and has not made the best choices with her life in order to put Javi first. Upon her revelation, she calls her bestie Ryan and they decide to confront Javi while hes on a date. Then Ryan takes her home (where she used to live with her and River). As you can assume, River has long had a crush on Indigo, and Indigo once had feelings for Ryan that were unreturned when they were teens. Indigo, needed to get a handle on her life decides to make some life decisions. While dealing with the social media fall out of her recent break up and the gaslighting Javi implements via social media, she finds a new job and when pushed by Ryan, applies to be a contestant on the Reality show that River is producing...

Now what may seem like a pretty predicatble set up comes a book with a lot of character twists and turns I didn't see coming. Even if you aren't a reality show fan, you will really enjoy this book. I could not put it down. You have angst, true friendship, and a love triangle that puts (instert teen/20-something drama title here) to shame. I love the relationships Ryan and Indigo have. Then there’s River, despite being the younger sibling, has a lot on his shoulders and his only constant has been Indigo. But don’t count Kade out, this bad boy has a lot of layers.

As someone who has never seen the Bachelor and has a deep hatred of any reality show revolving around ‘romance’, this book was a surprise for me! I think it still feels like a reading version of a show which is an impressive thing for a writer to convey but instead of cringing, I found myself going through all the emotions one would expect. I wanted to cheer, I wanted to boo and I ended up really enjoying this book.

Highly recommend to anyone who want a light hearted romance

Oh my God I absolutely love this book I could not put it down. I actually was reading so slow because I did not want it to end. It felt really refreshing as a black girl to have a woman of color especially another black girl be in a love triangle cause you don’t see that and books a lot, so it was fun to read and I enjoyed it very much River had my heart hooked from the Very first scene with him and Indie and I can’t get it out of my head. Don’t get me started on the things he says 🥵🤭. I absolutely love them and was rooting for them the whole book and of course I love Kade I feel like he’s really misunderstood with the Internet hate that he doesn’t deserve and I hope that changes in the future. Also, I loved Indies’s friendship with all the girls except You’ll know who when you read( I also hope we get the other girls stories especially Ryan😉☺️) Ryan and Andy’s friendship is what I strive to have because Ryan did not play about Indie at all and I love that overall this whole book has my heart forever. I will be doing a reread until the end of time because I can’t get over it and I just finished it!!!! 10 out of 10 recommend you need to read this book NOW!!!

This was such a wonderful book. Indigo into a reality show to find herself after a bad breakup 💔. What she finds is mixed feelings between the bachelor/Kade, and her childhood friend/River which is one of the producers. Indigo's heart ❤️ is pulled in so many directions she doesn't know what to do. However others are watching decide to make the decisions for her.

I want to thank NetGalley and Victor Editing for the ARC of this book. The concept of this book I found really interesting and I cannot wait to read Kade's story. How can you not root for him?! I enjoyed this read, it was a fun. All the characters were likable, I feel like this was a true New Adult Romance. At first I was unsure of who Indigo would choose because she seemed to truly develop or have real feeling for both River and Kade. I found both the male leads to be great. I loved them both. There are so many great tropes on this book. To name a few Best friend's brother, friends to lovers, forced proximity, interracial love and love triangle. Other parts of the book I loved were; the cover (illustration is beautiful), the playlist, and the dedication (spoke to me). The nickname River had for Indigo *chef's kiss*.

Favorite quote: " The next time he kisses you remember how badly your body craves mine."

Favorite scene in 1-3 words: Video @ Beach

I really liked this book. It was a quick but slow burn. The love triangle between Indie, River, and Kade was well thought out and developed. The representation in this book was great as well. It also kind of shows you that sometimes in life the worst thing that can happen to you, can propel you to be the best version of yourself.

"Lipstick and Camera Clicks" intrigued me with its promising description, but unfortunately, the story disappointed me. The narrative was overloaded with unnecessary drama, and the decisions made by the main character didn't resonate with me. Additionally, the emphasis on the love triangle felt excessive and detracted from the overall enjoyment of the plot. While the initial allure was there, the execution fell short of my expectations.

I really enjoyed "Lipstick and Camera Clicks" by D.J. Murphy for its fun storyline, dynamic characters, and entertaining display of a reality dating show (irl i hate watching reality shows). I appreciate the fast-paced story, the love triangle, and the LGBTQIA+ representation. The book is both heartfelt and humorous, with a relatable and likable protagonist in Indigo. The character development, particularly of Indigo and Kade, is as a strong aspect of the novel. Overall, this was a quick fun read for me. Thank you D.J. Murphy and NetGalley.

*Thank you NetGalley and D.J. Murphy for the ARC!*

The DRAMA, the MESSINESS, all wrapped up in a love triangle on a reality TV show with LGBTQIA+ representation and a dash of spice!

From the dedication alone I knew that I would love this book and it did not disappoint. This was as much a love story as it was a story of a girl taking back her life and creating her own narrative. I love loved LOVED Indigo, her heart knows no bounds and lost as she was for most of the story, she always made room for others and their well-being. Indie deserves nothing but happiness forever and she absolutely is one of my favorite FMC's I've ever read!

Where D.J. Murphy really excels is in her ability to write deep, complex, and heart-wrenching characters. I felt something for every contestant on the show, Ryan (MY FAVORITE CHARACTER), River (my sweet love), Kade, and both of the moms and felt a deep disgust for the characters who deserved it. Truly masterful character work in this stunning debut!

First off thank you so much for my copy of this book.
This book was a breath of fresh air for me. It was messy and extra in the best way possible. It played with tropes that I loved but felt were becoming overrated and gave it new life. I was invested in not just the love triangle but the relationship and identity of minor characters. I wanted to know more about how the other girls and their reasons for being there. This book was about a girl who was reclaiming her story and finding her footing after a messy road bump in the journey to her goals but I could help be sucked into all the drama. This book was such a captivating and fun read and I loved that it ended in a way that got everyone a good ending. I am excited to see what is next for this author.

This book was not for me. I found the plot obnoxious and didn’t care about any of the characters. I also thought the chapters were too short, which made the story feel choppy. If you like drama and mess, and dating tv-shows, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, it just didn’t work for me.
