This book was a little tough for me to get through. I loved the main characters and their relationships with each other (Indie, <3 River and Ryan) but I really struggled to feel connected to any of the characters from the competition. The beginning and end were the strongest parts for me, while in the middle I just felt myself becoming bored and wanting to get to the end already.
I would recommend this to someone who enjoyed Icebreaker by Hannah Grace.
Holy Moley this is one of the best romance books I've ever read. I usually hate love triangles but this book was so well put together. You're sucked in immediately and you just don't want to stop until you've finished the entire book. I had to force myself to not completely devour this book in one sitting. I'm super excited to read EVERYTHING that DJ Murphy writes, especially the rest of Kade's story. I can't give this book enough praise... just... wow!.
THANK YOU NETGALLEY FOR THIS ARC !!
5 STARS BRO
If you told me 6 months ago that I would enjoy a love triangle… I would tell you that you were lying bc this was GIVING.
I picked this book up and could not put it down… every character was so memorable, every single detail was awesome. The pacing was on point. I loved every single person and how it wasn’t cheesy. I loved the relationships. The ending was perfect. This is a perfect example of how you should write a standalone while opening a plot line for a new book.
Again, thank you NETGALLEY 🤍
I'm very hit or miss when it comes to contemporary romance novels. I'll either really enjoy them or find them boring and not worth the read. However, Lipstick & Camera Clicks was one that I had a fun time reading. If you're a fan of The Bachelor then you'll love this tension-filled love triangle!
Indie recently found out her boyfriend has been cheating on her. After moving back in with her best friends, needing to find work, and having to afford to pay rent, she lacks the money she needs to move on with her life. But an opportunity arrives to be one of ten women on a reality TV show who all will try to win over the same man. She has no choice but to take it. The caveat? Her best friend and long-term crush is the producer. Forced to choose between the man she's loved all her life who may not love her back and the man she's meant to make fall in love with her on reality TV, tensions rise and emotions fall.
One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to contemporary romance novels is how most follow the same plot, climax and resolution making it boring to keep reading over and over again. However, Lipstick & Camera Clicks not only has what every good romance book needs, good tension and steamy romance (obviously) but a well-built storyline and original premise. Do I think that this was the best-written story I've ever read? No. Some things could've been left out or written better but it was still a cute read and a great palate cleanser that had me giggling and kicking my feet.
I picked this up because despite the love-triangle, the plot sounded really fun (and messy), and I have to say, it did deliver on that front. For those who like love triangles, good tension and messy situations this book is perfect. I wish, however, we could see a bit more of the friendship between the girls, rather than just the rivalry. That last twist also really drew down the rating for me…
I think the author has a lot of promise and if she decides to write another book I’m gonna be the first to check it out.
I think this book is a fun in between read but nothing to special. Overall I liked the love triangle and spicy scenes, some drama and the tv show installment but the plot was very predictable and nothing very new but enjoyable.
In my recent read, "Lipstick & Camera Clicks," I'm giving it a 3.5/5 stars. While some parts, notably Kade's bipolar indifference, left me frustrated, I was captivated by the unique reality TV setup and couldn't help but cheer for River and Indigo from the very beginning. Overall, an enjoyable read that has me eagerly anticipating the next installment. #BookReview #LipstickAndCameraClicks
I thought the cover was cute and I was looking for a cute, fun, easy book to read.
Lipstick & Camera Clicks delivered!
It was easy to read and kept me interested.
What you can expect: some drama, low angst love triangle, some spice and the need for certain characters to get their own story!
Although it felt a bit juvenile at times and depicted characters engaging in certain acts when one partner was previously intoxicated and also a lack of safe-s*x , it was still definitely a fun , easy read.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to read this book!
This is a story of love, of love triangle, but most importantly a story of a girl who wants to find herself after a love story that went wrong and where people who hurt manipulated the narrative to look good. In this day and age, with social media, these things happen more often than not, and it was evidenced in Lipstick and Camera Clicks.
Indigo wants to take her conrol in her life back and change the narrative that portrayed her as a lunatic who couldn't see her friend happy because she found love. That's how she finds herself in a dating reality tv show, the bachelor style, with a guy who she disliked at first, but developing feelings for him, after getting to know hi. The problem is that one of the producers is her best friend from childhood, they boy she had always loved while growing up and who had rejected her when she asked him to go out with her back when they were teenagers.
Who will she choose?
What I have most enjoyed of this book is that the story not only centres on romantic love, but also on friendships. The plot was fantastic, I enjoyed the reality dating show take, and all the ways some things can be manipulated if you know how to spin a specific detail.
Indigo is so sweet, and I was incredibly sorry for her, how Javi treated her, but I also was frustrated with her while she was undecided between River and Kade.
I usually don’t go for love triangles because they always end up being with one obvious choice, and the other is a filler character. But, this book did not disappoint, because both the love interests were so good in their own way, both having a different romance trope. I couldn’t figure out which one i wanted more.
The book had become a little stagnant in between, but it quickly picked up its mess with a chaos of twists. It kept the book interesting enough to keep the readers engaged. For some reason, I did not find the ending satisfactory. I felt like the author could have done something better, but I just don’t know what.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book, and I would 100% recommend it!
3.5 🌟
Lipstick and camera clicks is like having a secret look into the world of reality tv.
We follow Indigo who has just found out that her clout hungry boyfriend has been cheating on her with her friend.
After gaining some fame Indigo decides to go on a version of the bachelor where she'll compete to win the love of Hollywood heartthrob Kade. There's just the fact that she finds Kade to be extremely obnoxious and that her childhood best friend River is behind the camera filming it all.
While this book at times frustrated me both with characters that seemed too extreme and a spicy scene being ruined for me by one of the characters being intoxicated and therefore a bit of a gray area about consent.
I definitely still would recommend this book for anybody looking for a light read full of drama and betrayal
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review
4.5/5 Loved the story and the characters in the book. The author really brought out how messy reality tv can be and how real life out side of media can be different. The love triangle also was just *chef kiss*. I wasn't sure if this book would take a why choose route, choosing one or choosing none until the end. I was on my toes.
What's a fun and beautiful book.
I wanted to read this book as the cover caught my eye and then the description convinced me more.
I felt so many emotions reading this, I was happy then I was stressed then I was gasping then I was happy again I really went through it lol.
I love a romance as much as anyone but when a romance book is more than that it's even better. I loved the plot of the TV show that was like the bachelor with the love triangle element although I would always of picked River (hes just amazing).
There's no doubt in my mind this book will do well, I'm unsure if this is the author debut novel and if it is I know she's going to go far with this writing.
If your looking for a cute read with tension and a great plot this one's for you.
So fun!
Got to read this book as an ARC. It was so cute. Perfect for fans of The Bachelor. Indigo has just gotten out of a toxic relationship, and her best friend Ryan has convinced her to go on a reality show to find love. Indigo doesn’t think she will ever let herself fall for someone again. But she soon finds herself in a love triangle with the lead of the show, Kade, and her childhood best friend, River, who is a producer on the show. Now Indigo must navigate her feelings along with relationships with the other women to figure out if she can take a chance on love again. But who should she take that chance with?
This book was adorable. I loved all of the characters. D.J. Murphy does a great job writing banter and complex characters. As a reader, I found myself constantly switching between Team River and Team Kade. I also loved all of the side characters introduced and I’m hoping we’ll see more of their stories in future books. It sounds like we’re at least getting one more story after this book, and I can’t wait to check it out!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Omg I have no words for this. I LOVED this book!! I felt really connected to Indigo and I loved all the make up related things in this story. If one day that reality show is hosting on tv I’m gonna watch 😎😂 I can’t wait for the next book! This is already one of my favourite books of 2024😍
Okay one last thing: everybody needs a Ryan in their life 🫶🏻
Btw girl what did you put in this book? I already want to reread it
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc copy of this book
This was my first ever ARC book, and let me tell you I ate every page of it up! This book will make you fall in love with the characters, laugh outloud, and even giggle and kick your feet. D.J Murphy and Lipstick and Camera Clicks is definitely on my favorites list! I can’t wait to see what they publish next!
I loveee a dating show romance!!! Indigo is such a great main character! She is so relatable and fun! The characters are easy to love and the writing had me giggling and swooning! Very cute read!!
4.5/5 stars
Lipstick & Camera Clicks is the story of Indigo as she takes control of her narrative. After being cheated on by her influencer ex-boyfriend and going viral for all the wrong reasons, Indigo is talked by one of her best friends, Ryan, into applying/interviewing to be on the Bachelor-esque reality dating show, The Love Meltdown. Indigo decides to go on the show to get paid, promote her make up artist skills to kickstart her career, and present to the world the version of herself that she wants them to see, not to fall in love; however, she catches feelings for the fine af and charming bachelor, Kade— all while under the watch of her childhood crush/lifelong best friend, River, who’s a producer for the show.
This book absolutely had me screaming, giggling, and kicking my feet (literally!!). Lipstick & Camera Clicks was an absolute *joy* to read and I cannot recommend it enough. This book is delicious with how much drama is folded into the makings of this reality dating show— to the point where I had to put my book down a good few times because I was so stressed out with how events unfolded (and I mean that in the best way).
Now, I’m almost always in the category of folks who fall for the second lead within love triangles, yet Indigo’s story taught me that second leads have nothing on childhood best friends— all while still really *feeling* for said second lead and still wanting him to get his own happily ever after (so help me I want my hands on his book yesterday). However, as a friends to lovers girlie, Lipstick & Camera Clicks also had me examining (with emphasis) why *now* when they’ve known each other their lives? The slow burn had me stressed (largely because I’m also not typically a slow burn girlie lmao), but DJ Murphy’s portrayal of these characters was so fleshed out and incredibly *human* that their complexities still had me in a chokehold (affectionately).
I know we’re only just over one month into 2024, but honestly, this is probably one of my favorite books of the year for how fun it is and how much I really enjoyed reading it. I’ve become a loyal reader, and I’m excited for everything DJ Murphy has to share with her readers. Thank you, Netgalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, for the ARC!
This had me at the playlist, the song choices were IMPECCABLE. Then the dedication. This was written to ME. I was gagged by the first chapter, that's Gen Z speak for flabbergasted. The writing flowed nicely, had an elegant simplicity to it. Plus, first person is always a crowd favorite. This book had me physically reacting to every scene. I felt like these were my friend my people. I loved it. 10’s across the board. I'm going to be on my knee’s begging people to read this book. I'm not joking. Every page, every chapter. GAGGED. ANOTHER ONE. GAGGED AGAIN. Let me tell you guys something, I despise certain tropes but something about this I LOVED to hate this specific one okay. Maybe it was the setting, or my QUICK love for the characters I have no clue but I was so over it but into it. It was honestly giving real, reality tv. It stressed me out in the best way. It was like screaming at my TV during love island when someone recouped after casa amour.
If you want a love triangle book down well this book is for you! I loved the dating show setting and the romance was five stars. I would highly recommend this book!
