This is #5 in the ‘Detective Dove Milson’ series, but can be read as a standalone. I’ve read all the books in the series so I was looking forward to reading this one.
DC Dove Milson is travelling home from Cornwall with her fiancé, Quinn, when they spot an incident up ahead. Three people are falling from the bridge and land on the road. They fell together but don’t seemto be connected to each other at first, so was it a suicide pact, an accident, or murder?
Dove and her partner, DS Steve, work in the Major Crimes Unit and are put onto the case, which is looking more and more like murder. The two women and a man went to the same retreat recently, but is that their only connection?
An absolutely brilliant read that kept me gripped till the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe Books for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
I came back to this one on the suggestion of a friend. I am so glad I did because it is a great book, it is a really good standalone, even though I know it is part of a series. Is a page Turner and I’m really enjoying the characters!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC
Dove Milson Book 5.
I love this author and in particular this series. The writing style means it is quick and easy to read. This is a great story with some wonderful red herrings in there. Told by Dove and mysterious narrator.
The general police team is relatively small and the main cast is not too big, But if I had a criticism, i would have appreciated a cast list of Doves family. Maybe I am getting old, or its a long time since the last book, but i struggled to remember who was who,
Overall another great story. Looking forward to book 6!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advance copy, in exchange for an honest review.
The Fall by D.E. White is the fifth in the DC Dove Milson crime series.
First, I'd like to thank NetGalley, the publisher Joffe Books and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning - May Contain Spoilers from Previous Books)
DC Dove Milson, once a handler of police informants, is now a member of the Major Crimes Team. Her partner is DS Steve Parker, their boss is DI Jon Blackman, all under the rule of DCI Kevin Franklin. Her friend, Jess Meadows is a Crime Scene Manager, and one of the few who knows her background. Dove's fiancé is a paramedic named Quinn. She has two sisters, Ren (whose husband is now in jail) and Gaia (who owns a strip club). They all grew up on a commune. Dove has a photographic memory.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
On the way back from a badly needed vacation Dove and Quinn witness three people fall from the overpass bridge onto the highway below. Chaos ensues.
At first glance it looks like the two women and the man had jumped, perhaps a suicide pact? But as the team delves a little deeper, it starts to look like murder. They had all attended a nearby retreat, but that appears to be their only connection.
Meanwhile, Dove is trying to deal with the death of Gaia. Her wedding has been postponed, and her mind is not quite in the game.
My Opinions:
This was really good. Topics include grief, revenge, retribution, and of course murder.
The story is told from both Dove's perspective in solving the case, and another unknown person, who we assume is the perpetrator.
There were a number of characters, and the plot was quite complex. There were a number of twists. I did, however, feel that we were left hanging a little about Gaia (or I missed something).
It was a fast-paced book, and a fast read (especially compared to the last book in this series).
So, overall, I will definitely continue to read this series!

˗ˋˏ୨୧Introduction୨୧ ˎˊ˗
This is "The Fall" by D.E White. It is a thriller mystery type of book. We follow our amazing detective Ms Dove as she find out the reason why 3 people fell of a bridge and very close to each other at that, is there any correlation between them, was it suicide or murder.
˗ˋˏ୨୧Writing style୨୧ ˎˊ˗
The writing style is really easy to read and understand, I believe it is a writing style that suits this type of people. Not that descriptive but more focused on getting the information. Very easy and quick to read.
˗ˋˏ୨୧Characters୨୧ ˎˊ˗
As this is a thriller book the individual characters and their traits are not something I overall look for and analyse. Overall the characters were amazing. The people around Dove were very supportive and care about her a lot. Those are the types of people you need in your life. Dove as a whole is a very intreseting character, I really liked here and I love that we get parts of her personal life and personal thoughts.
˗ˋˏ୨୧Originality୨୧ ˎˊ˗
This concept is probably not as original as I would imagine it to be, I am still new to the whole mystery and crime thriller genre, so to someone new in these genres it would be something original, however to someone more experienced in this genre maybe not. I did really enojoy this book though, and I would love to read the rest of the series.
˗ˋˏ୨୧Enjoyment and impact୨୧ ˎˊ˗
This is so easy to get into as well as it was just so fun to read. I was justchanging the page so quickly that I switched to the scroll mode to make it easier for me to read. It was so fun to read and it really does keep you wanting more.
˗ˋˏ୨୧Target audience୨୧ ˎˊ˗
People who want a crime thriller, mystery, suicide or murder, fun, easy, fast, keeps you on your toes read.
˗ˋˏ୨୧Overall assessment୨୧ ˎˊ˗
Really loved the book, I am way more into reading crime thrillers and mystery books now. 4 stars!
Dove and Quinn are heading back after a very welcome and needed holiday in Cornwall following Dove's last traumatic and dangerous case. Not quite the quiet re-introduction to investigation for her when three people fell off a bridge over the motorway just in front of Dove and Quinn. Accident, suicide pact, murder? A small cast of characters but enough complexity to make it hard to work out who did what to whom and why. Her DCI is supportive, her team are brilliant, her remaining family there for her although suffering from the death of their sister too. An interesting complex case, well-written and I look forward to more. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
I received an advanced copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is the fifth story in a series but can be read as a standalone book. There are references throughout that I imagine would be explained in earlier books in the series but this only makes me want to read more!
An intriguing, edge-of-your-seat, complex plot with cult-like vibes and interesting characters. Looking forward to reading the rest of this series…Definitely recommend!
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for the advance copy of this twisty crime thriller.
This is the fifth book in this brilliant series. This one was a real page turner, easy to read and a great storyline. Very twisty. I have really enjoyed this series and I hope it's not the last in the series! ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of The Fall, the fifth novel to feature DC Dove Milson, set somewhere on the south coast of England.
Dove and her fiancé, Quinn, are driving home from Cornwall and see three bodies fall from a bridge over the motorway. Accident, suicide or murder? Nobody is sure, but they’re going to investigate hard.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Fall, which is an absorbing read with plenty of twists and turns. It is mostly told from Dove’s point of view with some intriguing chapters from the unnamed killer and an unnamed witness. I’m not always a fan of multiple points of view, but in this case it works extremely well as they are used sparingly and have just enough content to really pique the reader’s interest.
The premise is amazing with three bodies falling from a bridge grabs the reader’s attention from the start and doesn’t let go through strong storytelling and some really unexpected twists. I couldn’t put it down until I had the full details as I had no inkling about the whole or why until the reveals.
The novel is, from an investigative point of view, slow to start with the team having little to go on and no opinion on what happened. As a result they investigate like mad, uncovering small snippets of relevant information at a time. Gradually the big picture emerges and it’s not at all what I was expecting, due to a certain amount of misdirection from the author. If anything, it’s much more complicated and clever.
I like Dove, who is a dedicated detective with a knack for lateral thinking. She’s the one who makes most of the breakthroughs and links. She’s also mourning her sister, who died in a traffic accident six months prior. Or did she? There’s some ambiguity about that from the killer. Nevertheless, Dove is in mourning and while I could emphasise it brought back some painful memories for me and made me rather uncomfortable.
The Fall is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
This one was a DNF for me, sadly. I gave it til 10% but I just couldn’t get into the story. What should have been a really exciting way to open a book was dull and bogged down with long passages and too much description. I might be in the minority, but this one’s not for me.
Omg! I had been in a bit of a reading slumping just couldn't get into anything and then I started this and omg, I could not get through it fast enough! It's a fast paced police procedural with original, complex characters and a plot eith so many twists and turns that all you can do is hold on and go along for tbe ride! Amazing!!
Detective Dove Milson #5
Detective Dove Milson is on the final stretch of a long drive back from Cornwall. She's tuning the radio when her fiancé swears next to her. She follows his gaze up to the bridge spanning the motorway. Something is falling from the bridge. Someone is falling from the bridge. No, not one person. Three people plunge to the tarmac below. Two women and a man. Dove is immediately caught up in the investigation into the horrifying event. But what has led three people with no apparent connection to jump together?
Dove and her fiancé, Quinn, witness three people jump from a bridge spanning the motorway. Two women and a man. Dove is assigned to the case. Some think this was a suicide pact, but Dove has other ideas. She's also still grieving the death of her sister. The three victims all went to the same yoga retreat - is that the connection?
What a twisted and fast-paced read. The suspense builds with each turn of the page. I tried and failed to guess who the narrator in the italics was. It's quite a complex but enjoyable read.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #JoffeBooks and the author #DEWhite for my ARC of #TheFall in exchange for an honest review.
The Fall is a police procedural focused on finding out whether three people falling off a bridge is suicide, murder or an accident. The pacing is great, the plot moves swiftly and there are many twists and turns to keep you on your toes!
Dove is the protagonist, a detective who has been through many significant events, most recently the death of her sister. I received a copy of this book as an ARC in return for my unbiased review. As such, I didn’t realise it was the fifth book in a series until I began reading. Usually I wouldn’t start a series in the middle, and although I did enjoy this book, I felt like I was missing the history and context to a lot of the character development because I hadn’t read the first four books. Having said that, it was easy enough to follow along with the case in this book and I enjoyed the read.
THE FALL by D.E. WHITE Fifth book in the series. A rollercoaster of a ride with many twisty and hairpin curves. Mostly a police procedural with numerous clues and multiple suspects that come slowly to light. Would have been interested in knowing more of the backstories of some of the suspects. A very good addition to the series.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Detective Dove Milson book five.
With a fiendish twist in Abberley Lymington-on -sea on the M27 motorway driving back from Cornwall with her fiance Quinn, jumpers? and more jumpers under the saddle bridge were falling onto the deadly tarmac.
A load of jumpers then a body sprawled in the road, the aftermath in the dense fog is fear and disbelief a busy road during rush hour, has come to a standstill.
When Dove and Quinn run out to see there are three bodies one dead female and a male and female that are both still alive. So very weird.
Wow this book definitely have a few twists and turns along the story the characters once again all blend in and Dove a very clever detective is always on the ball in her job i love this whole series one of this authors best work.
Above all the out come of the story is excellent plotted so well as you keep reading.
It's a cracker.
Since the title and description of the book caught my attention, I gave it a chance and I loved it! Now I am going to recommend it to my best friend, it is definitely recommended! Thanks Netgalley for this great reading opportunity.
The beginning really sucked me in. Thrilling and exciting with a good splattering of police procedure. The ending seemed a little rushed to me but overall a really enjoyable read. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my early copy.
I was drawn straight into this book from the prologue and if that wasn’t enough, chapter one then ensured that I would want to race through to the end.
I went on to finish The Fall in two reading sessions.and it was great to read how Dove’s case appeared to unravel and then come back together again with every fresh insight.
I love it when there are twists in a book that make you consider the possibilities and try to solve it yourself and this book as with Daisy White’s other books makes you do just that.
Congratulations D E White on another page turner that is book 5 of the Dove Milson series.
A wonderful crime thriller that draws you in and hooks you from first chapter. Excellent twists and turns plus a look into the characters as usual
The opening pulled me in and I was immediately hooked. I found it so sad and compelling because DI Dove is still traumatised by her sister's death but is then suddenly immersed into this new investigation as she witnessed it travelling back from Cornwall. It's really exciting and puzzling trying to workout the identity of the narrator in itallics. This is one of the most interesting and intelligent books that I have read recently and is full of surprises. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
