The youngest Bennington sister's time has come to find her one true love and Juliet thinks it should be a fellow poet like her. She has been well prepared by her older sisters as to what to expect when she hits town so is very calm about her launch into society.

She meets Rupert Doncaster, the Marquess of Hamill at her very first ball and is immediately attracted by his physical presence and his handsome looks. Rupert is good friends with most of Juliet's sisters' husbands and so when Rupert decides it is time he start looking for a wife, he turns his attention to the last Bennington sister and sets his cap for her.

There is another chap vying for Juliet’s hand, a fellow poet, Mr Roundbat. Juliet decides to give both gentlemen a chance to woo her. What follows is more trouble for the youngest Bennington as she encounters Mr Roundbat’s shadier side and the Bennington’s are once again on tenterhooks as they wait for Juliet to come to a decision.

As usual with this series, there are several instances of funny scenes and silliness at some of the situations the family encounters along the way. Kate delivers another sweet romance in her usual style that had me turning the page and thoroughly enjoying the lovely Bennington family, their nutty aunt Miss Mayton and the cast of colourful characters that revolve around them once again.

Rupert Doncaster, Marquess of Hamill, has decided it's time he married and he intends to court Lady Juliet Bennington, although he could hardly understand her when she was spouting off her poetry. Her beauty more than made up for her quirkiness, he thought, but her heart seemed set on marrying a fellow poet, which he decidedly was not.

Lady Juliet Bennington knew in her heart that she was destined to marry a fellow poet. When she meets a fellow poet, Mr. Roundbat, she wants to fall in love with him, but she keeps being drawn to Rupert, and it confuses her. Could she marry someone who didn't share her love of poetry?

This was a kind of bland story. I didn't feel much chemistry between Rupert and Juliet, but I did love Tattleton, Miss Mayton, and, of course, the rooster Marvin. The secondary characters made the story in my opinion. While I did enjoy the previous stories in the series, this one kind of fell flat for me especially since it took me more than a week to get through it.

What a charming read! This historical romance is clean, approachable, and very witty.

Our heroine Juliet fancies herself a 'poetess' and is determined that her future husband have the same appreciation for the written word, even going to far as to say she would be happy to live in squalor with her poet husband. She has two potential suitors, one who fits the bill (and is perhaps a poor choice on balance) and one who does not (but really, he's a Marquess!). Fierce competition ensues. The characters are endearing, and I appreciate that the Act 4 misunderstanding is both reasonable and quickly addressed. Everything is resolved and tied up very neatly.

I think this book is lacking a little bit on the romance front. I don't sense any chemistry between Juliet and either of her options, just that the Marquess is the better husband choice. That's fun, but compatibility is rarely the thing that gets readers engaged. The side characters are very fun, especially her Aunt and Petey.

I'd recommend this for readers who want a low-stakes Regency romance that will make you smile as you read.

Kate Archer's books are so funny. This fifth book in the Very Fine Muddle series follows Juliet Bennington, the poetess. It's finally time for her season and she is looking for a poet. So of course on her first foray in to society she meets the Marquess of Hamill... heir to a dukedom, 100% Corinthian, always on the go, not the foggiest idea what a 'blazing orb' is. Not quite the poet she was after. Luckily (!) a poet appears in the form of Mr Roundbat. So if it's a poet she wants... he's her option. Unfortunately, despite his mastery of the 'Japanese style' there isn't much more to recommend him.

Cue chaos which involves, in no particular order: a rescued rooster, Mr Wordsworth, an enterprising young eavesdropper, a cabal of moneylenders, a highly entertained Duke & Duchess and of course, a Gentle Governess.

This series is so funny. I have enjoyed all of them and I am waiting with anticipation for Darden to get the blunt end of his family's shenanigans in the next book!

This 3-star clean regency era romance struggled with excessive filler, focusing heavily on descriptions of Juliet's aunts' quirky books and Rupert's role as one of the Queen's Knights. While character-building within Juliet's family was acknowledged, readers are left longing for more intimate scenes between the central couple, Juliet and Rupert. The surplus of filler scenes left the romance aspect unfulfilled, leaving readers wishing for a deeper connection between the protagonists.

Oh I do love this Bennington family. This historical romance series is hilarious and I personally think you should read them all in order to enjoy them best. This book gives us the youngest daughter on her London season. She knows what to expect from watching her sisters. Unlike them, she will not change her mind on the type of man she wants. (Or so she thinks).

Our hero knew at first sight, who he wanted. Unfortunately the lady has a totally different type of man in mind.

The mad cap adventures of this family drive their poor butler to distraction. We almost feel sorry for him.

I have never read a series that has given me so many giggles. Its a shame there's only the brother to come.

Great fun.

This is one of my favorites authors. She write so real. Some people might not understand a chaotic family while others like myself have lived and are living that life. She captures that chaotic life with perfection and choas. The last girl of the family has finally come to set upon her adventure. Making it town with only 1 stray animal and in record time. She is determined to find her poet. Whether he has money or not. But along the way she find that something else is a foot. I was so relieved and excited to see who was interested in her because he was such a wonderful guy in the previous book! I was saddened during the book because I thought it might be the last. But take heart their adoring brother has the next book! Hoorah Hoorah!

Juliet, the youngest of the Bennington sisters, has decided that the man she marries must be a poet. And there’s even one in London interested in her – even if his haikus underwhelm her. Certainly a sporting man like the Marquess of Hamill will not suit her, no matter how handsome she finds him.

This is the fifth book in the series, but not the final – for the sole Bennington brother remains to be wed. But Juliet is the last daughter, and I was excited for her book to see how she and her poetry would fare as she meets the wider world for the first time.

As is the theme with this series, I found myself giggling as I read this book. Though everyone and their husband is aware that Roundbat is not on the level, Juliet is stubborn enough to cling to her previous plans come hell or high water, and it was entertaining to see how she came to realize this. I liked how Rupert went about trying to court Juliet, and how his whole family tried to chip in despite being rather confounded by the idea of poetry.

However, I did feel like the romance was a little low key in this book. I wasn’t exactly sure what drew Juliet and Rupert together beyond an initial physical attraction. We see plenty of the two of them enjoying each other’s company, but I would have liked to see clearer what special chemistry made them suit each other.

When Rupert sees Juliet it is love at first sight. Juliet, while physically attracted to Rupert, won’t consider him as a beau because she is a poetess and will only marry a poet. Rupert persists and gets her to at least give him a chance. When he saves her, she finally realizes that a man who loves her, and her eccentric family, is the one for her. Rupert Doncaster, Marquess of Hamill, has decided this is the season he will find a wife. One Bennington sister is still unattached and he is anxious to meet her. Juliet has always thought she would find a husband that's a poet, but the manly Marquess is physically appealing. Of course there is Mr. Roundbat who writes poetry in the Japanese style. Rupert is determined to outplay the competition. Soon he has the information he needs to win the lady.
As always there is hilarity with the eccentric Benningtons and other members of Society. Thank goodness there is one more Bennington to find his match and five sisters to interfere. A clean romance.
