So good! I was drawn in from the very beginning and didn’t want to stop listening! The mystery was fascinating and I love that I didn’t guess who the villains were!

One Final Target by Janet Cantore is a keep you guessing story that takes you for a ride. When Jodie’s entire team is blown up in a bomb blast, her life falls apart. Three months later, she is back at the scene and someone tries to take her out again. This means the bomb blast was personal. With the help of Sam, who also recently experienced his own tragedy, Jodie will fight for the truth for her team and for herself. Good story! I enjoyed it. And the narrator was great.

Full of Suspense and Action!

From the opening chapter I was drawn in and did not want to put it down!

This was one of those books that you get so caught up in and don’t notice the time passing by. I tried to figure it out. I came close.

The storyline and characters were all well developed and it was very enjoyable to read.

This was my first book by Janice Cantore and it won’t be my last! I will be searching out her past books and look forward to new releases.

This was my first book by Janice Cantore and it will definitely not be my last. The character development was well done and I found that I really liked the main character. The storyline had a lot of action and was very engaging. I appreciated the Christian aspect as it didn’t seem just added in or not a part of the story. I would highly recommend this to those who appreciate “clean” stories with action and suspense.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to enjoy this fantastic story. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

One Final Target
Janice Cantore
The setting is the San Bernardino Mountains. Sergeant Jodie King was there when her team of officers were killed, murdered, when an IED is detonated. Jodie has survivor’s guilt. She feels responsible for their death and grieve for their lives. She takes early retirement and begins her own search for the murderer.
Detective Sam Gresham has been assigned the IED case. He quickly realizes that Jodie was the intended victim. Sam suffered a loss and still bears the emotional scars. He hopes to help Jodie heal from the loss of her team.
This is a fast-paced thriller, Christian romance with suspense. I enjoyed the scripture references and prayers. It was easy to see why Jodie was resisting God; she was hurt, felt unworthy and she was angry with God. She felt as if her prayers were unheard. Sam was also hurting but was working through his pain. He was ready to fight for Jodie. The theme throughout this book is “God is good, even when life is not.” This book demonstrates bad things happen to good people. Being a Christian does not mean bad things are not going to happen to you. The key is how we handle the bad things in our lives. We grow through adversity. “Faith does not always take away the pain, but it does give you the ability to handle the pain.” “Be Still and know that I am God.”
It was fun watching Sam and Jodie’s relationship grow.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book for review.

This is my first book by Janice Cantore. I really enjoyed One Final Target. My typical genre I read is Christian Romance, Historical Romance. I thoroughly enjoyed stepping outside of my typical genre. Though there was a little bit of romance, it was not the main theme, it was more suspense and thriller.

The character development was good. But it was not very deep. I would have liked to go a little deeper into Jodie and Sam. I learned a little bit about their past. But I would have liked to have a little bit more of a back story.

The storyline was great. It really drew you in and kept you in suspense. Trying to guess who could have done this and why. I could not put the book down.

I really enjoyed the use of scripture and prayer intertwined throughout. I did not have high hopes for it at the beginning, but I am glad I was proved wrong. I loved that Sam used scripture to help Jodie keep calm. The rawness of Jodie with her church friends telling them when she was at with her walk was perfect. Just as it can be hard sometimes with our faith when things seem to be falling apart and it seems like God is not there. I always appreciate when Christian Fiction points us back to our creator.

*I was given a copy of the book for personal review from the author. This is my person thoughts and reflections.

Final target by Janice Cantore thrilling suspense following the aftermath of an IED explosion that left Long Beach, Sergeant Jodie King alive, but the rest of her team did not survive.
The danger surrounding Jodie is not over yet, as she has been victim of a sniper attack. New to the area, Detective Sam Gresham finds himself embroiled in the investigation. He is committed to finding answers to the months long case that has left Jodie without the ability to continue her job and a faith that is shattered.

This book is an exciting fast-paced suspense filled with unanswered questions that kept me guessing and guessing again.

Jodie is a Sergeant on the police force and they do a raid that goes bad. She looses 4 members of her team. She is devastated by the tragedy that she resigns her position, but the danger is not over for her. Someone is out to get her and she has to rely on her Uncle Mike and the police force to help her find the killer. But someone on the inside (police force) is assisting in targeting her and they can't figure out who. Sam is one of the agents on the force that is assigned to help Jodie. Jodie has to be careful that she does not get involved, because she is no longer on the force. Can the find the killer before he kills more people and her? This is a great book. Narrator: Jeannie Sheneman

Stars: 2.5

Synopsis starts "A Warrant Service" and of course I saw genre: Christian, General Fiction (Adult), Romance and audiobook. Keeping with my plan to branch out of my norms, I put in the request to read.

What does Warrant Service mean? I thought maybe bounty hunter. After reading I still really don't know. Early on there was a team who entered a house, an explosion and one survivor. This is repeated numerous times throughout the book. While I recognize this is a police procedural and there are interviews, etc., repeating the situation in written/audio form left me in a challenging situation between finishing or not finishing the book.

Jodie, the main character, is a Christian woman. She prays and talks to God. I found those sections written well. My concern was group prayers and hugs going into a standoff and not portraying her realistically. Fortunately those things didn't happen. With respect to those character traits, you could have been watching me.

Jodie works around a lot of men, and is drawn to just one. I appreciated that. A person does not have to make rounds and date an entire office/force. There is a line -- be serious about the case and keep the romance on the back burner. As far as I was able to stay focused that happened.

I would love for Jeannie Sheneman to narrate books where empathy, compassion and respect are the driving forces for harsh realities. She has such a calming affect. She was too soft for this book.

Overall, this is a miss for me. It felt as if sections were written separately and Cantore tried to merge them. The ending left me shaking my head and wanting my time back. I'm rounding up to 3 stars. I would use this as a communication bridge with a daughter. There are several topics that could be initiated.

There was no foul language.

A Christian thriller…how did I have no idea this existed? I really enjoyed this and could definitely get into the genre more with books like this. Most thrillers are either too dark or not exciting enough but not this one! It was the perfect in between. Kept me wanting more without keeping me up at night.

🌀Synopsis

This was my second Janice Cantore read, and I liked it! The plot was exciting and explosive with a really interesting and twisty mystery. One thing I really appreciated about this book was the major focus on the characters’ faith. The level of faith elements varies amongst Christian fiction, but it really did play a major role in the both Jodie and Sam’s growth though the story, and you see them praying often and working through their struggles in understanding why God has allowed certain things to happen in their lives. Another thing I appreciated was the authenticity of the investigation. Cantore is a former law enforcement officer herself, and that really shines through her writing. The romance was pretty light, so if you prefer more suspense than romance in your books, you’d probably love One Final Target!

A big thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the audiobook ARC! All thoughts and opinions above are my own.

Book by Janice Cantore ⭐⭐⭐

This is my first time trying Janice Cantore.
I enjoyed the premise of the book, however it did take me a little while to get into it, but once it hit that 50% mark I was really invested in finding out who was behind it all.

Definitely a author I would try again.

In the book One Final Target, author Janice Cantore follows police Sergeant Jodie King who is struggling with the guilt and grief of the death of her team from an IED blast. And with the case remaining open and no leads, King cannot go on and retires from the force. But King keeps digging into what happened and now her life is in danger. Sam Gresham was at the right place to save Jodie from the sniper shot that almost killed her. Now the race is on to find out what happened before more people die. This was a good story. I would recommend this book. The audio-book narration was very good. I received a copy of this audio-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

One Final Target by Janice Cantore might just be the best Christian Suspense book I've read in a while! Wow! All of the edge-of-your-seat, action-packed thriller, without feeling like you want to go lock your doors. It was perfectly written! 🙌

The characters were excellent and I loved seeing them all as they worked through their individual issues.

As for the mystery itself, I had suspicions but I was constantly second-guessing myself, trying to figure out who had the most to gain from it all. All in all, this was a *fabulous* book to introduce me to Janice Cantore's writing. I will definitely be checking out her backlist!

If you're like me, and you love books by authors such as Lynn H. Blackburn or Natalie Walters, this is one book you *have* to read!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Christian romantic suspense.

An IED killed four police officers in the San Bernardino Mountains. Suffering from survivor's guilt after losing her team, Sergeant Jodie King retires from the force. She meets Sam Gresham a new detective working the IED case.

One Final Target is more investigation-focused with little romance which is fine with me. Even after Jodie retires, she is not out of danger but still has a target on her back. Who would want her dead and why? A great pace mystery, suspense with compelling characters. I wasn't able to guess whodunit until the reveal! There are many references to God and faith as the characters deal with the tragedies.

A solid read/listen by a former Long Beach California police officer turned author. 7/10~ 3.5⭐

Thank you Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for my ALC.

2.5⭐️s rounded down
**Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for access to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I received it just before the pub date.**
Sergeant Jodie King is the lone survivor when her whole team is unexpectedly taken out by an IED blast. She takes early retirement, and deals with her grief and guilt by returning to the scene of the crime. Little does she know, the case is far from over, as Jodie is still a target
-genres: Suspense, Christian Fiction, Contemporary, Romance (romance is a very very side plot)
-Jodie and Sam are both survivors of (separate) on-the-job incidents that kill the other officers around them. Both sound incredibly traumatic, and like a lot to work through. I thought it was a huge plus that Sam is so open and promoting of therapy, as there can be a stigma around therapy in first responder types
-action packed opening that draws the reader in. The author was good at building suspense, and offering a believable cast of suspects (I’m assuming drawing from her experience as an irl officer)
-Jodie feeling anger/betrayal towards God for her teams’ deaths feels authentic; every other character randomly thinking of Bible verses, thinking in biblical analogies, and guilt tripping & preaching at Jodie doesn’t. It’s a bit gaslight-y; no one (other than Sam?) sits with her and listens to her, they’re all just uncomfortable (distraught, in the case of her old friends) that she isn’t the stable/devout person she was before - it leaves you wondering if they do actually care if she gets “better” (or that she takes the time to work thru her trauma), or just want her to check all the boxes to ensure she’s devout again? There is a point where Estella (a mother like figure, who lost her husband in the same accident) has a heart-to-heart with Jodie; if she had been the only person to talk about faith, revenge/bitterness, letting go/moving forward, it wouldn’t have been so bad/cringe
-I almost DNF’d, but kept going for the whodunnit. I think the author nailed the suspense/thriller part!
***The audiobook quality was very good. I think the narrator did a great job (especially switching between different character voices)!***

One Final Target by Janice Cantore is a fast-paced suspense story that will hook you from start to finish. I enjoy stories that race against the clock to stop a killer, and this story delivers action, suspense, and emotion. Jodie King has faced one tragedy after another, and it seems that a killer is after her. But why? And who is behind it? Because all the clues point towards the killer being someone she knows. She meets Sam Gresham who helps her track down a killer while trying to stay alive.

I loved this book! Both Jodie and Sam are struggling with past traumas, and they form an instant connection. But with the danger surrounding them, they need to find out the identity of the killer before someone else dies. I highly recommend this for fans of suspense.

Bonus points for the audiobook –I thought the narrator did a good job of mixing the drama and emotion with the high action scenes. I highly recommend the audiobook for this story.

One Final Target by Janice Cantore is a brilliantly plotted novel. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Jeannie Sheneman. I have read other books by this author and enjoyed them, but this book might be the best she has ever written. Even though it was a fairly long audiobook, it had be captivated and I could not stop listening. The characters were vivid and real, grappling with serious questions stemming from traumatic events. Readers of suspense will enjoy this book greatly. I received an audio version of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I found this book amazing to listen to. I can not believe the twist at the end. The book immediately starts with action and keeps it going through the entire book. The big reveal at the end is very upsetting I was shocked for the character.

Cantore keeps the tension high in this fast-paced romantic suspense. Plenty of possible suspects and plot twists keep the mystery interesting. Sargent Jodie King is a woman struggling with the death of her team, the failure to find the man responsible, and the resulting loss of her faith. Detective Sam Gresham also deals with survivors guilt and a shaken faith. Their issues are highly relatable as anyone who believes also wrestles with unanswered whys. I appreciated the strong faith elements of this standalone. Narrator Sheneman ably differentiates characters and kept me in the world of the story. I stayed up much too late because I didn’t want to stop reading. Recommended.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a review audiobook. All opinions expressed are my own.
