Walking through the woods, a dad teaches a little boy all about the different features of different trees, so when they visit a nursery at the end the little boy gets to choose his own tree to plant - the world definitely needs more trees! I liked that they included photographs of the different tree features at the end, but I wish they had just incorporated the photographs into the illustrations to really have an accurate depiction of what was being described throughout. I was also disappointed it didn't include some of my favorite trees (shagbark hickory has the most fun bark, and oaks have the best shaped leaves!)
This is good illustrated picture book on the trees. Backgrounds were so vibrant and colourful. Though the rhyming was normal and but words were so educational. What I prefer not to see in any picture book, is the setting of content over background. Most of the books are in same manner fits words in either bad font or wrong position on illustrations.
But the content in sense is so educational and illustrations, I say again, are so vibrant and equally realistic.
For young middle-grade readers, Last page titled "Why we Love Trees" was inspiring and stating learner facts to know what they get for real time when they seed the trees for their future and better world.
For me it is 4.5/50
This book is a great way for children to appreciate what trees give us from paper to oxygen. It is full of different trees and how to spot them. From American Beech to Eastern White Pine. This book also encourages children to not only go into nature but plant a tree of their own.
Give me a children’s nature book full of colorful pictures and facts and I will read it over and over with my kids!
This book did not disappoint. I learned about different types of trees I had never heard of before (what their trunks look/feel like as well as their leaves) through the point of view of a young boy and his father.
I also spotted some animal friends along the way.
Reading A Tree For Me makes me want to pack up and go to the park or hike trails and see how many different types of trees I can discover.
The illustrations are rich and vibrant and easily grab children’s attention. I also appreciate the real life photographs and tree facts at the end of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Familius for allowing me to read and review A Tree For Me!
"Each tree has different leaves and bark
that make it stand out from the rest.
We'll learn to tell the trees apart
by looking at the way they're dressed."
A father and child spend a pleasant day together exploring what makes each tree unique, and at the end of the book they share one more special activity. The story is told through rhyming text, and the illustrations by Helena Pérez García are vibrant. This is a nice reminder to appreciate trees, observe nature, and spend time outdoors with loved ones.
I found this piece to be exceptionally well-crafted, and I'm eagerly anticipating the opportunity to delve into more works by this author. Given its potential popularity among our library patrons, we're certainly looking forward to adding it to our collection
A gorgeous children's picture book to encourage children to explore their natural world. The book identifies eight different trees and brings a sense of the importance of nature. This would be the perfect springboard to having your own adventure at your local park!
I always love a good (children's) book about nature, and encouraging its conservation. This one is all about trees, and how beautiful and different from one another each of them are.
The illustrations are really soft and beautiful, just like the story and text are.
I could never recommend enough such picture books!
such a lovely book!
simple to understand, very educational, and the drawings are so pretty!
if you know kids interested in nature or if you'd like to make them more interested in science and nature, this is an excellent book.
The concept of this children's book is lovely, but the execution fell short for me. The illustrations were wonderful.
At its core, it's a lovely idea for a children's book but I didn't like the execution.
The language was, first of all, constructed unnecessarily complex. Admittedly, English is my 2nd language but I took both my bachelor and my master's in English. And even I had a hard time reading it. It also just made me bored with the book and its contents.
Secondly, I don't think the art style was the right choice given the book is about teaching children to recognize different trees mostly by sights. I would have liked a far less cartoon-ish style in favor of a more realistic one.
And the inclusion of the pictures of the trees at the end? That could have been done way better.
A boy and his father take a walk and learn about trees. The picture book aims to teach the reader while entertaining with rhymed poetry. In the end, the boy gets his own tree to plant at home.
An informative picture book mixing non-fiction elements in rhymed verse. There have been a lot of these lately, some more successful than others. Although I like where the book is going, I’m afraid the information seems forced into the poetry. Some of the verses feel awkward, ending with an unnatural meter. The non-fiction back matter seems hastily put together. The whole endeavor seems low-budget: the illustrations of the trees themselves are beautiful but the people are not done well, the meter and strange verse structures really stand out to me, and the informative nature of it seems inadequate for what it is trying to accomplish; there is not enough “info.” I think there are better mashups of poetry/non-fiction picture books out there, but I appreciate what the author/illustrator team is trying to accomplish here.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is an educational little book about trees, with beautiful bright and cute illustrations, lots of animals included too and the short texts, the fun way it’s brought and its length make it easy to digest for small children.
A dad, his young sun and their dog take a walk in the park together. The beautiful illustrations and the writing made me almost feel like I was there. I imagined hearing nature sounds and hugging a nice tree too.
Most of this little book is about telling trees apart. So perfect that a page with real pictures of the trees, their leaves, their bark and their names, was included at the end! So you can take this book and go exploring at the park or a forest after reading it.
I also loved the cute ending of the story and the page at the end where we learn why trees are important.
This book was cute! It does a good job of introducing the idea of different types of trees and instills interest in learning more. I feel like it is missing something; it is so close to be amazing, but isn't necessarily one that has you coming back to read again and again. The information on the different types of trees are the back of the book was wonderful.
I absolutely loved this book and plan to buy it for my kids' library. The art is beautiful, the words support a real multi-sensory engagement with nature, and the pup looked like our border collie. And I appreciated the photos of real trees, leaves, etc... at the end of the book. Great for engaging kids through the story AND teaching them the science and nature pieces at the end. A home run of a children's book.
This book is a great way for kids to learn about different kinds of trees! I love how it is written and I especially fell in love with the illustrations. They are so very beautiful, with all kinds of green to see. I highly recommend!
This children's book was cute, adventurous, and heart-warming. It's about a father and son experiencing the joy of nature. The father teaches the son about different types of trees. I enjoyed the illustrations as they make you feel like you are there with the characters as they discover the different types of trees. I enjoyed the fun illustrations of the father and son and how they interact with the tree's together.
The illustrations in this book are beautiful and my nature loving daughter loved being able to see the different trees and plants and possibly see them around our home. I really loved the last two pages where there were actually photos of the trees and plants that were mentioned throughout the book and the list of reasons why trees are so important. A great book and great learning experience that is beautiful and fun for kids.
I can see this being a really beautiful tale to read aloud and really create a calming, magical atmosphere
Full, engaging illustrations that turn the words into magic.
My only complaint is that I wanted more. I feel like this was the start of a lovely tale but it didn’t get chance to grow - a few more pages could have worked wonders here.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an E-ARC
This book brings your senses alive. It has wonderful descriptions and would be great for noticing details. The illustrations have so much rich texture that adds to the book and its information.
