A great collection of recipies for those who like outdoor type cooking. Lots of things we have tried and loved and others that we are excited to try in the future.
It’s so nice when the weather is good and we can cook outdoors. Although most of us find grilling is easy, we sometimes need inspiration to cook other things outdoors and use the smoker or other means rather than the grill. Anyone wanting some good ideas will want to pick up Gas Fire Heat: Essential Recipes and Secrets for Cooking Outdoors, by Aly Romero.
This excellent cookbook includes dozens of ideas that are outside the box. Romero’s ideas are doable and absolutely mouthwatering. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions to insure perfect results. In addition, most of the recipes come with beautiful, professional photographs which makes it difficult to decide what to make next.
The dishes are gathered from regions all over the world with flavors of Mexico, Hawaii, India, Asia, regional America, and others. There are helpful comments at the beginning of each recipe that include hints, background, and vignettes pertaining to the recipes. She outlines different ways to cook outdoors, including BBQ, grilling, smoking, and griddling. Almost anything goes.
I love reading this cookbook, but especially love cooking from it. Every time I pick it up, I find something new I want to make. All told, this is an excellent cookbook that everyone will enjoy.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
I love to cook all types of cooking. This book is chuck full of new recipes to keep me trying something new for quite a while. There is something for everyone in this book. If you like cooking on a stove, oven or grill their is something in here for you. This is a great gift for any cook.
Recipe wise this is good, versatile and nicely organised. Unfortunately unless you are a fan of the author or get this book for review, I don't see what would compel you to pick it up. It does not have that thing that modern cookbooks have that make it impossible for me to resist them.
I think it needed a better editor, I think it needed a bit more personal writing inside - and a better kind of writing (there is an intro), and a better food photographer too. It has too much of an amateur feel to it no matter how many achievements the personal chef has.
A great barbecue cookbook! I wasn’t familiar with this chef before reviewing this cookbook but I will definitely be looking out for more from her. Recipes are well written and easy to follow. Be prepared bbq and grilling is not always the easiest, even if the recipes are easy. Fire is unpredictable.
This is a well done cookbook and will be enjoyed by new cooks as well as experienced cooks. There are lots of photos which help so much to see what your dish should look like. The instructions are clear and the recipes are varied. This is a fun book and I will reach for it many times to try all the recipes.
As a beginner when it comes to cooking, this book felt very approachable. Aly breaks things down into easy to follow steps and the ingredients weren't completely foreign to me -- I would know where to find them at the store! I love when cookbooks include an essential tools list and that it wasn't crazy long, but just listed some things people should have and good brands to try. The recipes all sound and look delicious and I can't wait to try some out. The food is really nicely photographed and I feel confident anyone could follow the step by step instructions. It's a great addition to your summer recipes!
Thank you Familius for the digital ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Gas Fire Heat by Aly Romero is a lip-smacking and juicy cookbook full of barbecue/grilling recipes. Aly is a private chef and appeared on Food Network. Gas Fire Heat is her first foray into the cookbook world. I'm so glad she went this route! Few cooking methods come close to the satisfaction of grilling, barbecuing and smoking regardless of the climate. If I can grill at -40C, weather isn't an excuse! Thankfully, there is plenty of inspiration here with swoon-worthy photographs.
This is one of those books I can flip open and point and about 99% of the time would happily cook what my finger landed on. Though I have celiac (there are no substitution options or nutritional information here) most things are easily adaptable.
You will find many old favourites and traditional recipes here but with that special extra something. Examples include Pastry-Wrapped Brie with Roasted Grapes (I won a national contest creating a savory roasted grape recipe...they really elevate a dish). Garlic Butter Monkey Bread with Marinara, Garlic Lemon Pepper Wings, Citrus Slaw, Smoked Meatballs, Basil Vinaigrette and All-Purpose Seasoning. But there's so much more.
The recipes not the tiniest bit daunting and would be appreciated by beginner cooks. Experienced cooks may be reminded of something they haven't made for ages and anyone between will be inspired to heat up their barbecue.
My sincere thank you to Familius and NetGalley for providing me with a digital copy of this delectable book.
This is the first time I have heard of Aly Romero. The recipes were all well laid out with easy to follow instructions and pictures. The recipes look delicious. It is great to see a female griller. This book was aimed at using a smoker which I don’t have. I only have a gas grill. f
I was impressed by the variety of recipes, clear instructions with some pro tips includes and truly beautiful images! I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes this summer!
Previously, I was not familiar with Aly Romero, but I'll keep an eye out for whatever she does next!
As a fellow grill enthusiast, I was thrilled to see a grilling book written by a female chef! Aly showcases bold flavors, uses a wide range of ingredients and adds her own personal flair to elevate the dishes. The recipes are presented in an easy-to-follow format, with uncomplicated instructions and accompanied by mouthwatering photos.
Another helping? Yes, please. This girl sure knows her way around a grill!
This is the first time that I’ve heard of the author, so I’ve never heard her voice, yet it seems like I can hear her talking just by reading the introduction and the biography. There’s just something so personal and homey in the way that this book is written. Like a passionate teacher or friend sharing what they’ve learned.
The format is clean and simple, layout is easy on the eyes. I especially liked the choice of font colors. Shades from the red-yellow color scheme on the edges and black in the middle makes your eyes focus on the recipe without any distractions.
The recipes are also easy to follow, from the ingredients, measurements to the detailed instructions. I do understand that the author is a brand ambassador but it also would have been great to learn about her own spice rubs and concoctions or even just substitutes, especially for those of us who don’t have access to these products.
Gas Fire Heat focuses on BBQ recipes. The cookbook includes recipe for grilling meat, seafood, and vegetables with the grilling accompaniments.
The sections are appetizers, poultry, pork, beef and lamb, seafood, veggies and sides, & basics and staples. The recipes includes straightforward recipes that are easy to follow. Each recipe has a beautiful photo accompanying it. I really enjoyed these recipes that are very refreshing and new takes on BBQ. There are so many recipes that I’m excited to try like the pastry wrapped brie with roasted grapes and grilled lobster tails.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oooh a new BBQ book, I gotta take a look!
Gas fire heat is a nice book with a bunch of really comprehensive list of recipes: different meats, sauces, and serving ideas. Lots of traditional barbecue recipes inside with unique uses- like using chicken you've barbecued on pizzas and in rice bowls etc. The recipes and timings are easy to follow, and I'm glad I was able to look at this book early!
Great photos and inspired ideas!
I received a free ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. An amazing amazing cookbook with filled with recipes I really want to try. I will definitely purchase this one for myself.
If you have a smoker, this is the cookbook for you. While it has recipes for the grill, the emphasis is more on the smoker. I liked the variety of recipes, from appetizer to sides, including things that I would never have thought to use a smoker for, like sloppy joes and queso. If you don’t have a smoker, some of the recipes can be modified for use on the grill or broiler.
Being an Australian, we do love a bit of outdoor cooking so I always love to read about new ways to cook a great BBQ meal that everyone will enjoy. It has all the hints and tips you need along with some very tasty recipes that I can't wait to work my way through.
There are appetizers, all forms of meat, seafood, vegetables and a few extras. I also like the bio from the author to get an insight into her life and cooking. The recipes seems straight forward and the photos did make me hungry. I have tried a couple of recipes already (the baked brie is to die for and the double cut pork chops with bourbon glaze, oh yum!).
A great book for outdoor eating and entertaining and one that any good BBQ'er would love.
Thank you NetGalley and Familius for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
