This is the fourth book in the Moonlight Magic Club series by Melody Lockhart with illustrartions by Luna Valentine. With the publication of this book, Maya's Hare-Raising Adventure, each of the four members of the Moonlight Magic Club has had one book devoted to them. Hopefully we will see another set of four adventures about friendship, growing up and learning new things but if this is the last book in the series, then it is a particularly delightful note to end on. Maya is about to celebrate her 13th birthday and with it, her magic surges, making Maya feel clumsy and nervous. Maya lives with her grandmother, who doesn't know about Maya and her friends being witches. Her grandmother won't even allow anyone to mention magic around her, she dislikes it so much. Maya accidentally ends up losing her magic and needs her friends to help her get it back. Along the way Maya discovers her familiar, a bunny named Twitch, who proves to be an excellent helper. Best of all, this quest leads Maya to uncover a secret about her Grandmother that changes their lives for the better. The books in this series can be read in any order but I think it is nicest if you can start with #1, Scarlett and the Secret Spellbook.

Book 061 of 300 ~ 2024

🌟🌟🌟

Cute little story of how little witches gain their magic when hitting puberty.

Trust me, I nearly went another way with this.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Don’t all middle-grade girls love magic and magic-infused tales? I think most do! And this book in the Moonlight Magic Club series is the perfect read! The story is adorable, the characters are nice, and the chapters are just the perfect length.

This is the second book by this author that I've read with my 7 year old, she loved it...loved the characters, illustrations and storyline....so much so, we've bought all of the others available!

Thank you so much to Arcturus and Netgalley for the ebook to read and review.

It’s Maya’s birthday and her magic is stronger, stranger and scarier. In a moment of panic and fear due to her strong magic she wishes it all away, then a magpie keeps coming closer to her making her think he’s her familiar.

This was a great story, another wonderful addition to the series. Maya had a lot to deal with on her birthday and though tried to have as much fun as she could she still had a heavy weight on her mind with her chaotic magic. I liked that we had two possible familiars and we had to keep reading to figure out what one was and which was not her familiar, I’m also happy that all the girls now have theirs now.

Pandora and Scarlett could now fly which was fun to read about them learning to fly, I thought it would be more complicated than it was and the girls learnt so quickly and made it seem like something they’d done for years as opposed to a couple days. But it’s great they can finally fly and quickly too.

Lastly I had been thinking that Maya must have a family with some magic and was happy that this book did address that , it was strange if she had magic but no family had any, especially as Foxglove and Pandora both have magic families. It was great seeing what it meant to her family member to have magic again.

This is a really fun series on friendship, magic, witches, it’s funny, it’s enjoyable so much happens and each girl has their own interesting magical quirks which are fun to read, the illustrations are always beautiful to look at. This is a fun, enjoyable easy series to read and I think a lot of younger readers would really love them.

I really don’t like to jump into things mid-series but I wanted to try something middle grade for a change and came across this book. Despite missing the previous books, this one did a good job of filling in details and explaining the overall story—while we followed these tween witches, particularly Maya, on their adventure. It was a quick, cute story (albeit a bit strange) about magic and friendship.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Such a cute story of young girls building friendships through magic and mischief! I enjoyed the antics that the girls got into. I think this series is perfect for ages 7-10. My daughter is 8 and we loved reading it together. I’ll be purchasing these in paperback format soon!
