Listen, I am a huge fan of Dr. Gottfried. I have read three of her other books and put into practice some key takeaways that altered the trajectory of my nutrition and hormones that continue to help me today. This book, The Autoimmune Cure, is very similar to her other work, and that’s not necessarily bad. Although, I did seem to glean more insight from her previous works. In fairness, that might mean I am in a healthier place than I was back then (Thanks in large part to her work).

For instance, she talks about elimination. For reference, see my 2020 review of The Hormone Reset Diet. “I had a thyroidectomy 16 years ago and have suffered from hyperthyroidism. After completing the 21-day reset, I lost 9 pounds, but more than that, my thyroid levels are within the NORMAL range for the first time in over 20 years! Win-win! I highly recommend these books for personal study and daily practice! I also recommend sharing these with your girlfriends, too!”

Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read and review The Autoimmune Cure.

This is a great intro guide to learning about autoimmune disorders, but I chafed at calling it a "cure". Yes, trauma can and does effect the body but there is no "cure" for it, you're not going to suddenly learn stress management and have the damage disappear. I struggled with the repetitiveness of it, but it was interesting in some parts and helpful in others.

This book provides an overview, backed by research, of how unresolved trauma impacts the body and mind. The first half of the book covers the problem of trauma and how it leads to changes in the hormone, immune and endocrine systems that lead to long-term health consequences. The second half describes treatments that the author has used for her own and her patients' treatment. Some suggestions, like the elimination diet, are not new to autoimmune patients, but the author delves into newer options including mindfulness-focused therapies and psychedelic enhanced therapy.
This book will mostly appeal to those of us who suffer from these conditions. So many struggle with these conditions, and the growing body of research into adverse childhood experiences, PTSD, and long-term health impacts of trauma helps many of us see our situation in a new light. If nothing else, it's nice to be"seen" and have a few ideas of routes to explore that may improve our quality of life.

This is a very informative book for people suffering from auto-immune issues. I am one of those people suffering from multiple auto-immune conditions. Gottfried primarily focuses on the main disorders that affect the majority of people. Unfortunately the main problem for me is sarcoidosis and that is mentioned only one time in one sentence. Personally I was hoping for me as there is very little information available for this particular issue. Setting that aside the recommended things, Gottfried goes over will help anyone suffering from an immune system that is out of whack.
Since I am currently in an active phase, I am trying out numerous suggestions right now. I feel hopeful things will turn around thanks to this information and the case studies mentioned.
I hope to see more books about autoimmunity in the future from this author,.

I found this piece to be exceptionally well-crafted, and I'm eagerly anticipating the opportunity to delve into more works by this author. Given its potential popularity among our library patrons, we're certainly looking forward to adding it to our collection

This is the first book that I have read on the connection between autoimmune issues and trauma, and I found it extremely helpful. For the newcomer to this field, wanting an easy, informative read on the topic, this would be my recommendation. I particularly liked her addition of information on the use of psychedelics and how it could be used to help this population.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harvest for the ARC!

This was incredibly timely as I have been struggling with multiple autoimmune diagnoses recently. Improvement is not a quick or easy process, but her process is useful and helpful. There is a lot of good information to consider in conjunction with your treatment plan.

This is an interesting book with some good info. However, it promotes some things (like psychedelics) that I will not promote to my audience. Therefore, I will not be recommending this book.

Dr. Szal Gotfried is an excellent communicator and she is able to translate scientific concepts into everyday language. This book will be a godsend to those suffering from autoimmune conditions. She offers a nuanced, balanced perspective with practical advice. She also offers hope and a sense of control for those who are suffering. I highly recommend this book.

This was a great read and I learned a lot. Especially in relation to the ways trauma and autoimmune intersect and how we treat both conditions can have major impacts on our health.
I felt there was a good amount technical data interspersed that showed the basis of the points she was making, while at the same time we're given real life examples of how trauma plays and can have long lasting effects on your health.
There are some practices and ideas that the author goes over where having an open mind will help for sure, and I appreciated their inclusion alongside more traditional trearments
I believe she has another book previously published that I would also be interested in checking out now. I found a lot of value in this text and felt it was worth my time.

A very thorough exploration of autoimmune disease. Sara Gottfried is well known for her previous work on hormones, and this did not disappoint. It should be noted that this book does promote Dr. Gottfried’s own autoimmune “plan.” Hopefully that won’t result in anyone discounting the wealth of information presented within. I learned quite a bit, and have already recommended it to several people.

The Autoimmune Cure by Sara Szal Gottfried M.D. is a treasure of a book for anyone struggling with autoimmune problems. Dr. Gottfried provides protocols to reset your immune system and restore your health. I voluntarily read this complimentary copy of this research-based book. I highly recommend it for anyone who cares about health and balance in life. I know I will refer to it often on my own health journey.

This was a really interesting book that made me think a lot about my body and its issues. Nonfiction isn’t my thing, but nonetheless I enjoyed this.

The book gives a lot of good underlying information about autoimmune diseases, how the body functions, and the basics of disease, which is a great place to start for folks who don't know much about these basics. However, it seemed to really push the author's patented 'cure,' which I found interesting at first, but it became mentioned _so_ much and so often that it became a turn-off to the reader.

Very thorough read on autoimmune disease root causes and measures to potentially mitigate symptoms. As someone with Rheumatoid Arthiritis I think this will be really useful
