This is classic Eloisa James! I was tempted to put this book down in the middle after a certain trip to Vauxhall, but my faith in James kept me going. The hero, Dominic, might put you off at times, tempting many to DNF, but trust in James's signature style. Her seemingly irredeemable heroes always find their way to redemption. The sweetness and sincerity between Torie and Dominic are utterly charming. Their chemistry is palpable from their very first scene. Torie is an amazing and delightful character, unapologetically herself, which is why she is so loved by those around her. Torie's character was worth the read alone, I might go as far as to say she was one of my favorite historical romance heroines. The relationship between her and the remarkable children, Florence and Valentine, along with Dominic, is the heart of the story!
I did unfortunately find the final moments of groveling a bit silly which knocked down my rating but I still was so enchanted by the story.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review!
Wow this was very unexpected but in a good way! We have Victoria Sutton and her sister Lenora Sutton! We also have Viscount Kelbourne aka Dominic or Dom who name is very appropriate!
Dom is actually betrothed to Lenora for years before she throws him over! Torie her sister can’t read but has a photographic memory and is a gifted artist!
Torie has low self-esteem and is even critical of herself to try to beat others to it! Dom does see the beauty in Torie but does not truly appreciate her talent!
When Torie takes over the twins which become Dom’s ward he gains a different prospective and appreciation!
The twins are macabre humorous and also lacking in self esteem! There are a lot of wounded souls and some wounds are very very deep!
Can one outlive tyrannical voices in our heads from our childhood that tell us we are not good enough! These voices can prevent growth and us having meaningful relationships as adults!
This seems to be Dom and Torie issues! Can they have. HEA and put their pasts aside and embrace a loving future!?
Once Lenora flees the picture no real reference is made of her and her impact on Torie’s self worth! That I cheered for gifts and to assert those gifts to be used in greater arenas! These story had emotional highs and lows! Laughter, love and exasperating moments! Bravo well done!
Miss Victoria “Torie” Sutton, the younger daughter of Sir William Sutton, never imagined that she would end up married to Dominic “Dom” Kelbourne, Viscount Kelbourne, her sister’s fiancé, but when her sister Leonora meets her betrothed’s new wards, she elopes with another suitor, leaving Torie to clean up her mess. The wards in question; Florence & Valentine are twins, and the children of Dom’s late sister. Torie falls in love with the children immediately and enjoys spending time with them, but she has no desire to marry Dom just to become their nanny – which she is pretty sure is the reason Dom has demanded that she marry him in place of her sister. Especially as Dom is widely known as an intelligent man and a powerhouse in the House of Lords, as well as, the fact that he chose Leonora for her perfect ladylike qualities – attributes that Torie does not (nor does she want to) possess. Torie is universally considered “addled” as she is unable to read or write, but what people don’t know is she possesses a photographic memory and has learned to laugh at herself, therefore deflecting society’s scorn, in addition to this, she is a gift painter and a truly nice person – definitely not the bride Viscount Kelbourne was looking for. But she won’t deny that she finds him attractive and despite her reservations, she finally agrees to marry him, but there is no way she is going to fall in love…
After being jilted by Leonora Sutton, Dominic Kelbourne is determined to marry Torie, he doesn’t care what society thinks, and finds himself strangely protective of her. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the twins adore her, and he is incredibly attracted to her. It takes some doing, but eventually he convinces her to marry him and then proceeds to fall head of heels in love with her. But Dom is not prepared for his feelings and makes one mistake after another, culminating in a mistake that may cost him the love he never knew he wanted. Can he make things right or is it too late?
What a great start to a new series! This well-written, perfectly paced story is a fun “grumpy meets sunshine” type of story. This book has wonderfully imperfect characters, great banter, lots of emotion, steamy love scenes, delightful secondary characters, a hero with a temper, a heroine who isn’t afraid to give as good as she gets, a house bunny, a sword fight and very happy ending that includes an epilogue. This was such a great read; it was the book I didn’t even know I was waiting for and can’t wait to read it again! I loved Torie and Dom individually, but I loved them even more together, this is a fictional couple that will stay with me for a long time, and I can’t wait to meet the next Accidental Bride!

Viscount Dominic Kelbourne is now the guardian to twins, but his betrothed elopes. Dominic decides to marry his fiancée’s sister Torie, and their fevered kisses convince society it's a love match. Torie marries for the sake of the twins but hopes they can have a real marriage.
We see how Dominic and Leonora interact in early chapters, and there is not only no love between them but hardly even any respect. Leonora kept pushing off their wedding date for over two years, and his sister's twins have unorthodox behavior due to being emotionally neglected for years. Their outrages and impolite behavior put off Leonora, and she wants them shipped off to the country so that she doesn't have to ever deal with them. It's not what Dominic wants, and his insistence on keeping the twins close and then eventually introducing them to Society is the final straw that drives Leonora away. In the meantime, Torie and Dominic often interacted and had more of a relationship even though it wasn't romantic. There is physical attraction and mutual love of the twins binding them together. Neither truly believes the other can love them, leading to courting and developing their relationship further.
I like that Dominic is the one to chase Torie and that he recognizes her inner worth even though she is unable to read or calculate sums. Her own family and the rest of society put her down for it, and she's borne the brunt of those "jokes" for so long that she doesn't recognize Dominic's instinct to champion her. The twins give Dominic advice and care about Torie as much as she cares about them. They're not just plot devices, but intelligent and outspoken children who have finally attached to people who care about their wellbeing. Both Dominic and Torie know a lot about their chosen fields, yet are easily hurt if they feel belittled. Understanding each other deepens their love, and I really liked that aspect of their romance.
While I liked this book, I didn't love it. I found it repetitive and frustrating. I felt like we were covering the same ground over and over again.
I liked the heroine, Victoria (Torie). She didn't let her disability of not being able to read , keep her down. She focused on her art ànd had others read to her. She worked out a system with her maid and footman to help in writing notes and doing math. But still she was like subject of ridicule. First and foremost was her own family., her father and sister. But while she was very forgiving of them, she wasn't of Dom..
So. Was a very staunchy Viscount. He was raised by a strick father. After being jilted by his fiancee, who happens to be Torie's sister, he realizes it was Torie who was always around. And Torie he enjoyed talking to. He already knows about her reading disability and is very protective of her. So he decides to pursue her.
This is where she book started being repetitive and frustrating. Where Torie forgave her to family freely, she gave Dom no room for error. I also thought the story made Dom look a little stupid. He didn't know anything about art, not realizing that Torie was actually a grrat artist. When he found out from another source, he was quite embarrassed.
In the end they work things out and a great love grows between them.
I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.
I love it when a starchy Viscount gets walloped right between the eyes by a seemingly flighty woman, so this book was so, so satisfying.
Viscount Dominic Kelbourne is marrying the perfect woman—not for love but as a political helpmeet—until he becomes the guardian of precocious twins and she elopes with another man. Dom turns to his former fiancée’s sister to help him with the children and ends up falling head over heels for the seemingly unsuitable Torie. The handling of Torie’s dyslexia by her family and acquaintances was interesting given that dyslexia was unknown at that time.
I don’t usually love kids as a plot device but the twins are great! I liked how the relationship between Dom and Torie grew from need to respect to love. There were genuine laugh-out-loud moments as well as sweet scenes. And Dom’s grand gesture was so good.
I’m in love with Viscount in Love, and I can’t wait for the next book!
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for an eARC. Opinions are my own.
I really liked the heroine of this novel. Torie is a kind-hearted, intelligent, and talented woman who is regarded as an idiot because she is severely dyslexic. She is also a talented painter. Everyone seems to be contemptuous and cruel to her, but she remains charming. Her cruel and artificial sister has been engaged for over two years to Dominic, Viscount Kelbourne, but decides to elope with an elderly baron instead because she doesn’t like how sexual and manly he is. And she doesn’t like that he’s taken responsibility to raise his scandalous sister’s twins.
But Torie is loving toward the eccentric twins. Dominic has the hots for Torie and quickly moves to trade out the sisters once Leonora abandons him. He isn’t able to express what he feels for Torie besides his sexual attraction to her. He doesn’t realize what a prize he has with his new wife. So complications will ensue before he wakes up.
I liked having a different sort of heroine and the brave way she faces society’s pity and scorn for her inability to read. And the twins are a hoot. And I enjoy stories when the couple are married and have to adjust to married life. I didn’t find the whole story that believable for the time period, but I could suspend my disbelief.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
This story is surprising. The characters run the gamut from quirky to stuck up. Viscount Kelbourne is unprepared to be a guardian to twins, but his betrothed Leonora is appalled by them. It is plain to all the Dominic and Leonora are not a good match, except to her father who is a gambler and alcoholic. Chaos ensues when Leonora runs off and elopes with someone else. Dominic is secretly glad as he has started to fall for Torie, Leonora's sister, who has been spending lots of time with the twins. He is happy to change his engagement to Torie, except she doesn't want to be his second choice nor does she like his snobbish attitude at times. It requires some work on his part to get her to agree and there are mistakes made along the way. Torie has dyslexia and while the twins, who are hilariously funny, don't have issues with this, there are the occasional problems that arise because of it. It's nice to see how the couple manages all the problems that crop up as they get to know each other. It does get a bit steamy at times, but it adds to the storyline of them being attracted to the other while having to really learn and accept the other so love can blossom.
Great start to a new series. This book has a lot going on in it. Some really sad as we see how people who were not perfect are treated. Dyslexia wasn't know back then and our lovely lady, Torie had a really rough life due to the ignorance of the ton and even her own family. That being said this is a really fun book, with lots going on. A stick in the mud to start Viscount betrothed to a lady who thinks she is being a perfect ton wife and instead is just nasty. When Dominic, the Viscount in question become the guardian to his very smart niece and nephew everyone true colors come to light. Torrie the sister to the not perfect lady is perfect in every way. She loves the kids just as they are and laughs alone with their very creative minds. Take two very precocious, charming twins who have raised themselves for the most part add a Viscount who thinks he knows best and a very special lady an you have a story for the ages. This story will run you thought so many emotions with misunderstandings, secrets twist and turns alone with tons of love, passion and acceptance. Don't miss this one as am pretty sure the next books will be just a good. I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest option and am freely giving it.
Viscount in Love, is a different type of romance novel. Dom is engaged to Torie's sister for the first part of the book. I totally get Tories reasons that she is unable to marry Dom. Throughout the whole book I am on Torie's side. Ready to fight for her if needed. I truly did enjoy reading this book.
This is Eloisa James at her best - as other reviewers mentioned, this book is giving Wildes of Lindow Castle (my favorite series of James's and a top book series in general for me) vibes. Torie quickly become one of my favorite HR heroines ever - I loved her outlook on the world. I love a grumpy hero and a bit of a grovel, and Dom really fit the bill here (I did hate him for a good chunk of the book, but somehow Eloisa James still had me rooting for him). It was great to read both characters' growth over the novel, both as individuals and as a couple.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!
I feel meh about this book. There were a lot of aspects I really enjoyed. Torie's disability doesn't have a magic fix, and Dom realizes he has more to be proud of in regards to his wife than he thinks. The kids are an adorable aspect of this story. I love a book about found families and being outsiders in society, but everyone outside of the Kelbourne house sucks. Torie's father and sister are awful and there is bravery in being kind to mean people anyway but it was hard to read about, and they are never forced to realize how wrong they are about her. Supposedly they end up fine and I wished for some consequences for them.
This book is one giant miscommunication and it starts with the synopsis.. The synopsis makes it seem like Dom only wants Torie to marry him cause of the children, and she certainly believes that, but he wants her to be a mother and he says over and over again that he wants her and she willfully misunderstands and doesn't trust him. Even when she finally starts to believe him they are always one misunderstanding away from being apart. The final conflict that leads to the third act breakup felt anti-climatic and there was no good grovel on either side.
Viscount Dominic Kelbourne has a list of what he wants in a wife and the perfect fiancée who fits the bill. And she remains his fiancée for quite some time, refusing to set a date. Then the worst happens: Dominic’s sister passes away, leaving him in charge of her orphaned twins. The twins are the final straw in his strained engagement and his fiancée flees. This would be a problem, except the solution is right in front of him: Victoria Sutton, his fickle fiancée’s sister. Torie is the opposite of her sister. She’s buxom, blonde, bright, and funny. Plus she absolutely adores the twins. It’s the perfect match…if only he could convince her to marry him.
Viscount in Love is a fast-paced and fun romance. Torie is a woman who knows what she wants and won’t accept less. Dominic is a man unused to being challenged. The two of them butt heads even as they can’t deny the passion simmering underneath every encounter.
It’s easy to like Torie. She’s kind, welcoming, and takes to Dominic’s niece and nephew instantly. Torie is also a talented artist who is used to being put down constantly. She’s severely dyslexic and people treat her like she’s stupid because she can’t read. It’s frustrating to see her constantly put down but Torie knows she’s smart and keeps her head held high. Dominic is a bit rougher around the edges. He’s passionate about fighting for what’s right and it’s given him a reputation. He can be kind of a bulldozer but Torie stands up to him. He has issues thanks to his belated father and needs to work on overcoming the ghosts of his past dictating his life, but I had faith Eloisa James would make it all work out for him and Torie.
Viscount in Love is the first book in James’s Accidental Brides series and it’s a strong start. It’s sensual, fun, and full of unique characters who are charming but flawed. I enjoyed Dominic and Torie’s story very much and I’m looking forward to seeing what James has in store for Torie’s best friend, Clara.
🌟ARC review🌟
I have only read one other book by Eloisa James, but after finishing this one, I need to read more!
Victoria Sutton has a little bit of a problem that cause her to "lose value" as a potential wife. However, that doesn't stop her from wanting to marry for love. Victoria never let the way people belittle her keep her down, AND she knew her worth! She is☀️the sunshine character☀️.
Viscount Dominic Kelbourne: tall, broad shoulders, and possessive with a touch of grump. Need I say more?
He also happens to be engaged to Victoria's sister, and to add on to that, he also becomes the legal guardian of his eccentric niece and nephew.
After some very foreseen circumstances, Dom and Torie end up in marriage of convenience-ish.
I really loved how Dom's devil-may-care attitude slowly melted for Torie and chose being with her over the house of Lords. PRIORITIES PEOPLE! And the spice was verrrrry well done🔥.
I loved the twins. I get kind of picky when it comes to the dialogue that authors give children, but in this book, I loved it! They reminded me a lot of my friends son, lol.
However, I did not get the conflict. Like at all. The miscommunication was so miscommunicated even I didn't understand it.
Other than that, it was a solid read. If it wasn't for the last conflict, it would have been a five-star read.
✨tropes✨

I want to give a special thank you to the author and the publisher for an early ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts and review.🩷
This was a refreshing new take on one of my favorite tropes and the best Eloisa James book that I've read in eons. Heroine Victoria was a unique individual. Due to her inability to read or write, she was at a great disadvantage. She was constantly belittled even by those who meant no harm. She therefore focused her energies on painting as it was the one ladylike hobby that was still available to her. In contrast, her older sister Leonora was the perfect lady. So perfect, that she was betrothed to Dominic, Viscount Kelbourne.
The relationship of Dominic and Leonora began to crumble upon the arrival of Dominic's orphaned niece and nephew. Being a proper lady, Leonora expected the Viscount to send the unwanted children away to the country. Feeling a sense of family responsibility, Dominic refused to do so. At one point, Leonora even suggested that Torie move in and take care of the children. The hurtful part of this was that it implied that Torie was good with children because she was not much better than a child herself. Dominic developed a friendship with Torie while his betrothal to her sister kept going downhill. It's pretty obvious where this is going!
Even though there were no great surprises, I was unable to put this book down. There was never a dull moment between Dominic and Torie. Throw in the two children and a lot of rabbit references, and you've got a five-star read.
Steamy Historical
Ms. James tale of a young woman with issues in this historical tale highlights her triumphs over adversity when the odds are stacked against her by being an honorable soul. Family issues and not taking on the marriage mart seem to be her issues..but they are not.
Events conspire to ensure she get married...is it a good or bad thing. If you like a steamy tale, this one is for you. I enjoyed her journey and recommend it for a fun read.
I received a NetGalley ARC gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
In this heart-fluttering romance, Viscount Dominic Kelbourne's neat and tidy life gets hilariously hijacked by the sudden need to wrangle his brilliant but eccentric niece and nephew. Duty-bound Dominic's world is further spun out of control when his fiancée runs off, leading him to spontaneously pop the question to her lively sister, Victoria Sutton. Torie, an artist who views the world in vibrant splashes of color and emotion, craves a love that cherishes her quirky essence. As Dom and Torie's paths merge, their spirited debates and sizzling encounters spark an unforeseen change of heart. Amidst the chaos and cuddles, they learn that love isn't about being flawless; it's about accepting each other's quirks and all.
Eloisa James, wielding her magical quill, has spun yet another yarn brimming with heartfelt drama and intricate personalities. Her knack for blending vulnerability with resilience turns the narrative into a work of art that echoes with the genuine ties of family and the wild ride that is love. Her storytelling is a tribute to the resilience of the heart, ensuring the warmth of the tale stays with you well beyond the end. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Such a fun read! I love that the FMC's learning disability wasn't magically fixed or explained away. Will definitely be recommending this one.
Viscount Dominic Kelbourne's sister and her husband have died in an accident, and left him with the responsibility of raising their two children. Dominic decides that he can take care of this problem easily: he will finally marry his carefully chosen bride-to-be (they have been engaged for two years), and she will help him raise the children.
Unfortunately for him, his intended bride disagrees with his plans for her. She has no intention of raising his niece and nephew, whose parentage is uncertain. She quickly marries a much older man. Dominic then turns his sights on her sister Victoria.
Dominic thought he was doing Torie a favor by asking her to marry him, since she could not read, and there was a fear that her defect could be passed down to her offspring. She painted a lot, but Dominic wasn't impressed by her paintings. Dominic has a lot of surprises coming his way. This is a delightful story where the couple get to know each other after marriage.
I received an e-arc of this book from publisher Avon and Harper Voyager via Netgalley, and voluntarily read and reviewed it.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have read several books by Eloisa James and the beginning of this was disappointing. I was going to be really disappointed if it did not improve. It did end up being a pretty good read. I enjoyed it.
