“He would have to send her home.
He loved her. He had vowed that once he had her back, he would never, ever let her go.
But to protect her... he had to send her away.
And he would be forced to say goodbye.”
“Avalon was the dream of gods.
And they had chosen her to help save it trom itself.”
Third book in the iron crystal series and omg I need more!!! For some reasons I thought this would have been the last one … oh how gladly wrong I was!!! This is Mordred’s last stand against the demon Grimm but first he has to deal with everything that has happened so far with Gwen. Their passion and love for each other is unmatched and they can work through it the only way they know how to… fighting. The angst between them is amazing to read and it is such a source of excitement for me !!! I was a fan of the series from book one but the more I read, the more I realised that I don’t want this to be over! More fightings, more powers, more secrets and more spicy times between Gwen and her dark knight. So many things happen in this book and I honestly can’t wait for the author to reveal what she is up to with this series and these characters. I feel like we are in for a long ride here and for some surprises and I need to find out what it is all about!
"And we can dream together until death takes me."
"I love you, Mordred."
He let out a small breath. "And I shall cherish those words you wrote to me, Gwendolyn Wright. For they are a kindness not once ever spoken in this world."
"I am going to make certain you never forget me," he murmured to her. "I am going to make certain that any lovers you take in my absence will pale in comparison."
This world is so fun, but this is my least favorite book so far in the series. It felt slow and some of the inner thoughts of the characters felt a little redundant. I would have liked a little bit more to happen. I'm 100% going to continue the series though because I want to see what happens and I like the characters.
I really feel for Mordred and Gwen. The tension balances well with the action. Sure, I want to bop our heroine on the head for not being smarter, but it's hardly her fault. Overall, To Reak a Dark Cage was an interesting read and one which would appeal to fans of fantasy. Do not miss it!
The first book in this series gripped me in ways that surprised me. Now onto this third book it just keeps getting better. Gwen is hilarious and relatable. I honestly thought this book was going to be the end and I was happy to know the series is continuing. I can’t wait to see what is next.
This book was amazing. It is book three in the series and I could not put it down. The romance was so good! The main male character was the perfect morally grey character and I loved it so much!
The series as a whole is amazing! Mordred is a proper morally grey MMC that gives me Cardan vibes in a spicer sense! This is a great spicy fantasy romance full of great world building and morally grey characters. It’s a slow burn totally addicting story that you won’t be able to put down!
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.
These books are so good and I'm loving the series.
Mordred is a proper morally grey MMC and not a good guy in disguise. Like a good line was that he's always the villain. Gwen is still an awesome character.
The world building is very strong and the cast of characters were very interesting to read. It had me wanting to turn off my speed reading so I could savour the book more.
Overall it's a pretty great read. I do wish there was a little bit more spice but the story is worth it.

To Break A Dark Cage is the third book in the Iron Crystal series and is a fantastic continuation of the first 2 books!
The series as a whole is awesome and honestly for me, it sort of reminds me of a steamy/better version of the folk of the air series, mostly because Mordred (the MMC) gave me the same vibes as Cardan (being a morally grey character throughout the series)!
It's a steamy fantasy romance with a strong storyline to back it up, the world building and interesting cast of characters had me on the edge of me seat the whole time, leaving me wanting to read the book faster to see what happens next but also slower so i could savour the book lol 😆 what a conundrum! (but I totally ended up speed-reading because I NEEDED to know what happened next!!)
If you enjoy fantasy romance, morally grey characters and spice 🌶 🌶 🌶 in your books I'm sure you will want to pick up this book/series to read and will not regret it!
Godddd, these books are GOOD. I really enjoy that Mordred is actually morally grey and not a good guy in disguise. Like the dude is a tyrant totally down with imprisoning and murdering an entire class of people because they’re a pain in the ass and it’s for the “greater good”.
Still a big fan of Gwen and the fact that she’s not reactionary and is freaking Switzerland with her neutrality. Was hoping this might be her villain origin story, but she doesn’t seem to be jaded yet. But go on and stage your peasant uprising, girl. Vive la révolution! Liberté, égalité, fraternité !
I’d like to nominate Doc and EOD for best supporting actors. Big fan of Doc, would love to see more of him in book 4.
I would have given five stars but we’re using the same plot device to create romantic tension as the first two books - Gwen keeping a secret and “betraying” Mordred. It also repeats the whole separation/dream visits of the second. We’re going to need some fresh takes for book 4. Also, we had smut at 4% and not again until 70% which felt a tad sparse, but quality over quantity and at least we’ve got plot!
I was addicted from page one! This is a fantastic slow-burn enemy-to-lovers fantasy romance. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it!
I don’t even know where to start. I love this series so much! The only thing I wish was that there was a different outcome at the end. Yes I know there always has to be a give and take and huge shell shocker in novels to keep them going. But my heart definitely broke with the end of this story. I can not wait to see what Gwen and Doc ( totally Merlin) get into next.

Ok I have read every single book in this series and it just keeps getting better and better. I love the whole Arthurian legend meets Wizard of Oz in this series.
I will say I did think this was going to be the last one so I was a bit surprised by the ending but so glad it’s not over yet!
There is war brewing between Grinn and Mordred. Will Gwen be sent back to Earth or will she become Avalons protector? And who will be left standing at the end.
5/5 stars and I can’t wait for the next one!
The main focus of the book is Gwen and Modred’ story. Although,I definitely enjoyed the other sub plots too; which were filled drama, wit, suspense and entertainment. I loved the unabashed passion that develop between the couple, and the undermining love that strengthens and fortifies these tender relationships that Kingsley reveals to us. So enjoyed it.
