My Review: Heir, Apparently by Kara McDowell is book #2 in The Prince & The Apocalypse series. It concludes Wren and Theo's story.

About the Book: The world did not end. Why, then, does it feel so utterly hopeless to Wren? As she prepares to step into her freshman year in college, she realizes that she has some unfinished business to settle with the King of England. All the while, Theo is juggling so many hats. What will become of his American wife?

My Final Say: I don't care if this is pop fiction or not. All I know is that it's darn good. The story stretched itself greatly, quickly becoming unbelievable. Still, it was entirely entertaining. I was on pins and needles, waiting for the outcome. I was not expecting the turn of events.

Other: Readers who enjoy farfetched romances or stories of love between royalty and commoners should enjoy this novel.

Special Nod: I loved that mental health strand, as well as the DM thread. It was a nice touch and provided realistic struggles in a positive light.

Such a fun concept and amazing rom com – I loved it! Kara McDowell's writing is engrossing and endearing, with characters that you want to root for. I also feel like her depiction of this fictional royal family is believable and engaging. A great read!

Such a fun rom com. I read the whole thing in one sitting and really enjoyed it. After reading the first book I was so excited for the sequel and it did not disappoint.

Heir, Apparently is a delightful romantic comedy filled with entertaining chaos and charming banter. This high-stakes novel combines fun, romance, and action into one thrilling package that keep me on the edge of my seat. A page-turning rom-com Heir, Apparently is brimming with heart, humor, and unexpected twists.

I didn’t realize this was a sequel, but it absolutely reads like it. Doesn’t stand alone, which really doesn’t work well for our libraries. The writing itself is easy to follow and I’m guessing those who read book 1 will enjoy.

Oh, this was a fun sequel, and I'm so happy that I got the chance to read both books back-to-back. In this, we are once again watching Wren and Theo dance with one another when it comes to their feelings. Nothing short of a quick disaster, like a plane going down and being trapped on an island, brings them both closer together. It was cute, and I enjoyed their bantering.

I also really liked getting to see and know his family a bit more. Henry was hilarious, and things could've started off on a better note with Victoria. Then there's Brooke and Naomi tagging along, and it was just very entertaining the entire time. One disaster after another, and I was smiling the entire time.

In the end, certain things had to happen in the way that they did. It helped them realize what they truly wanted in life and focus on what needed to happen next in order for those plans to fall into place. The ending was really cute and I'm really happy that everyone is happy.

I really enjoyed this sequel to The Prince and The Apocalypse. It's perfect escapism, with lovable characters and a story that kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. If you're a fan of YA fiction, you won't want to miss this one!

Picking up a few months after the events in "The Prince & the Apocalypse", the story starts off with Wren at college and unsure about her place in the world. When she discovers that new king Theo is on the same continent (albeit in a different country), Wren decides to head to Canada and reclaim Comet the Apocalypse dog. However, chance encounters and invasive paparazzi throw a wrench in her plans, and Wren finds herself on a private plane to England so The Firm can figure out how to deal with her.

Of course, even that can't go smoothly. One plane crash later, Wren finds herself trekking across a volcanic island with her sister, Theo, and two of the royal siblings in search of civilization and rescue.

There are elements of this story that are absolutely absurd, and a few that are not quite factual. But overall this is an engaging conclusion to the duology, that will have many readers speeding through to the finish line. Overall it is a sweet romance that also tackles the issues of self identity, owning your own fate, and being true to yourself.

This book blew me away. It was totally not what I was expecting. At. All. Royal romance is my absolute favorite genre. But this doesn't stop at romance. It has a bit of everything in it. An end of the world, death defying, on the edge of your seat, crazy adventure. That also has some amazing sweet scenes and memories. As well as incredibly crazy life threatening and changing times.
Just when you think you got this story sorted out in your mind it completely gets flipped around.
Theo and Wren meet when a comet is supposed to take out everything on earth. Doing so many unthinkable things, living out their supposed last days on earth together. Theo, the heir to the throne and Wren, a college student have done everything they can imagine together in one single week.
After the week passes and everyone lives, these two get brought back together months later while Wren tries to rescue her dog from the soon to be king. That's where the mayhem starts. It causes a whole catastrophe of events. Each getting worse than the last.
An incredible book from start to finish.

This is even better than the first book! After surviving the near-apocalypse and possibly marrying a prince, Wren can't believe she has to go on like life is just normal, enrolling in Northwestern with her BFF and never seeing her "husband" Prince Theo again. So she takes matters into her own hands, but things go a little awry and she ends up in a survival situation with the royal siblings.
Just a funny, sweet, lighthearted book that's comfortingly predictable.

This was an action packed rom com. I found myself wanting to keep reading purely for entertainment. But I did find it a little far fetched with all the characters went through. And yet, I loved the light reading and finished it with a smile on my face.

The blurb sold this story, but I couldn't make myself keep reading it. I’ve tried to, but in the end I have to stop. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for this kind of story, maybe the writing style shut me out.

This book was action-packed and exciting! there is a plane crash, a trek through the jungle, and an erupting volcano. You see the characters in high-stress situations and working through them. You also see Wren and Theo falling in love again and it was amazing. They have cute banter and in the end, we finally get them together. I loved how they were also fine with being vulnerable with each other and letting each other cry on one another's shoulders.

The only thing I would change about this book is the last couple of chapters. They felt rushed and Wren's decision felt abrupt to me. I liked finally getting our happily ever after but I wished that the ending was better paced.

Overall I loved this book, it had good characters, great banter, and an interesting setting. I highly recommend it!

This book was ridiculously fun in the best way. If you enjoyed the first book, then you should have a blast with this one, too. If you haven’t read the first one … go read the first one!

I think my favorite part of this book was getting to know the royal family. Henry and Victoria were fantastic in their scenes. Plus, the utter silliness of the main plot was a great way to spend a day. And, we can’t forget out our favorite royal and his American … wife? Oh and Comet!

If you want something fun to read with likable characters, an unbelievable (in the best way) plot, then pick this one up.

if you thought “The Prince and the Apocalypse” was a crazy journey….get ready, but Kara McDowell amps it up even more in this one.

A very brief summary: Almost-college freshman Wren Wheeler, her best friend, and her sister (former foe, now maybe friend) embark on a road trip to Toronto confront Wren’s maybe-husband now-King Theo and take back her dog. The Firm persuades everyone to go back to the Castle to figure things out. The plane crashes on a remote island. A cross-island survival hike ensues (with Comet the dog, obviously). This plot is bananas in the absolute best way. When I say I’ve been talking about it for weeks, I’m not exaggerating.

What I liked: these characters are FUN. The plane crash is FUN. The will they, won’t they energy is FUN. I gobbled this up in one sitting because how could I not. Kara McDowell knows she’s writing a wacky story and goes all in and I love it.

What I didn’t love: how are Wren’s parents not more concerned???? I also have more than a few plot related questions on things that don’t really get tied up at the end.

4 stars for an incredible plot with some holes, interesting characters. I’d totally read a series based on this and recommend “Heir, Apparently” for anyone seeking light escapism and who appreciates a good royal caper.

I kind of wish I just left off with the first book instead of continuing with the sequel. If you REALLY cared about the characters and the plot line in the last book then you will enjoy this one. I barely remembered what happened in the first one so it was hard for me to enjoy this one as much. Nothing against the book, I just didn’t set myself up well for reading this. I would still recommend to people that enjoyed the first one or really enjoy like classic 2000s Disney Movies.

I have been looking forward to this for so long and it was not disappointing. I loved the way it wrapped up and overall such a good duology and overarching story. i love them so much.

I loved this series. It's so different from a typical YA romances. It's not as predictable as you would think I loved the ride it took me on. Definitely gonna keep my eye out for this author in the future. 10/10 would recommend
