Erin Hahn does not disappoint. This is my fourth book of hers and they are all 4-5 stars. This on in particular was an absolute delight. Her books are sweet and swoony (and sexy) while tackling difficult subjects.
Things between Maren and Joe are easy from the beginning. This is a low angst romance but there are a lot of external issues they struggle with, including the fact that he's a single dad of two.
While it doesn't say this is a series, this is connected to Hahn's other two adult romance novels and you may be confused by all the side characters if you haven't read those.
Highly recommend.
Did I stay up til 4am finishing this book, why yes, yes I did.
This ended up being one of my favorite Erin Hahn book I've read so far. Set in WI, Maren goes back to the resort where she spent most of her summers growing up, after a break up with her boyfriend to fix up a bait shop and an apartment. Joe, who now runs the resort, is a single father for 2 adorable kids, and Maren's brother Liam's best friends. Maren is told to stay away but she does truly follow her heart. 4.5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Catch and Keep by Erin Hahn is a heartwarming and evocative romance that beautifully captures the essence of healing and rediscovery. The story follows Maren Laughlin, a woman at a crossroads in her life. After turning down a marriage proposal and leaving her job as a park ranger, she returns to her childhood haven in Northern Wisconsin to take over her late grandfather's shop.
The romance between Maren and Joe, her brother's best friend, is a slow burn that is both sweet and sizzling. Their chemistry is palpable, and their journey from friends to lovers is filled with tender moments and heartfelt conversations. Joe's patience and understanding make him an endearing character, and his support helps Maren find her footing again.
Overall, Catch and Keep is a delightful read that will leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling. It's a testament to the healing power of love and the importance of finding one's true path. If you're a fan of friends-to-lovers romances with a touch of nostalgia and a lot of heart, this book is definitely for you.
He is a single dad of two, just trying to keep all his plates spinning. She's just upended her life after her toxic boyfriend, who just stole her work promotion, tried to propose. Oh, she also happens to be his best friend's little sister. Together they make a pretty stunning friend-to- lover's romance story.
This is the perfect fall romance. It's set in a small fishing resort town in Wisconsin with quirky characters and that small-town charm. Not to mention, we get to see some of our favorite best friends from Hahn's previous books. Joe is such a cinnamon roll hero. He is a hometown favorite and just so freaking wholesome. Maren is a bit impulsive but has good intentions and a heart of gold. They were both so perfectly flawed but clearly the missing puzzle pieces for each other. I loved the subtle mystery subplot with Bryce. It kept me engaged in the story
I loved the bond Maren had with Joe's kids Anders and Lucy. Lucy has an autism spectrum disorder and gets a lot of adult attention while Anders is forced to grow up a little faster because of it. I loved that Maren's relationship with Anders was able to lift the load Joe had letting Anders be the kid for once while she also had a special relationship with Lucy all the same. It was just done so flawlessly. Even better though, is that there was no third act breakup which I am always a fan of!
Read if you like a brother's best friend, friends to lovers, forbidden romance. Thanks to the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review. This book releases 10/15.
Only for Erin Hahn would I emerge from my self-imposed romance ban and read an entire book in a day. Do I regret it? Possibly. But it's Erin Hahn.
4⭐️s. Coming October 15th!! Autism rep, single dad, funny accidents, and brother’s best friend. Really enjoyed the family and friends elements it this story. The chemistry was also good between Maren and Joe.
Maren had just embarrassingly said no to her boyfriend’s proposal. She begins to realize, he never really try to know her. Her family thinks she’s making the biggest mistake of her life. But Maren has other ideas. She needs the time and space to figure out what she wants and where to start. Going home to Northern Wisconsin and fix up the bait shop left to get seems like the best idea.
Joe has a lot on his plate. Two beautiful kids, a resort that people can call their home away from home, and an ex-wife that causes nothing but difficulties. But when Maren comes to town, he knows she will leave a big impact in his life. She manages to help with the kids better than their own mother.
Will their chemistry be too easy to make things work. Maren’s brother also likes to tell her all she’s doing wrong. Especially, with Joe.
Thank you to @netgalley @stmartinspress and @erinhahn_author for the advanced reader copy. #netgalley #catchandkeep
First, thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC by one of my favorite authors!
Second, this is the exact romance I needed for the fall. I know nothing about fishing or Wisconsin, but I love the world Hahn has created with these characters and their supporting cast. Maren is a badass delight, Joe is a sweetheart, and I want to scoop up his kids and hug them forever. I loved getting to see how Maren's friends have been faring (and I'll forever love a callback to Annie Mathers).
This was a delight and I'll read this trilogy over again because it's so cozy and wonderful!
This was such a cute, emotional story! The brother's best friend has the potential to really bug me but the way Joe stood up for his feelings and their relationship and refused to let anyone make it weird was the sweetest thing. I honestly really fell hard for Joe. If you love soft, steady heroes who are down bad for the heroine this is the romance for you! The single dad aspect was also adorable. Joe has a daughter on the spectrum and I really enjoyed the way the Autism rep was handled. The author portrayed the challenges that can come with having a neurodivergent kid without ever making that child feel like a burden or a struggle which I really loved. I felt a lot of things reading this romance and I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, emotional read.
This is my first time reading an Erin Hahn book, but I can guarantee it won't be my last! Brilliant writing......great characters and a story line that I was living for. It is written in a dual pov, which was easy to go between. I love a strong female character, and that's exactly what Maren is. She doesn't NEED Joe, but realizes her life is that much better with him in it. Such a sweet story, but not without a touch of spice!
(I received a complimentary ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin's Press and Erin Hahn)
This might not be the sassiest of Erin's novels but it still packs a punch and I loved every minute of it. The characters were so mature! Despite Liam's insistence that his sister was just a kid, Joe and Maren hit it out of the park with their emotional maturity, their dedication to each other and their mostly amazing communication. They are after all human.
This story of Joe and Maren finding each other in a brother's best friend case of *perfection* after his divorce and as she is coming back from devastation in her personal and professional life and watching them come together and making something new from it is just *chef's kiss*. Thank you Erin for writing this beautiful story!
I really enjoyed this one! Not only was it a cute romance, but I loved that both main characters were going through things and that they were able to help each other out. You can't go wrong with a brother's best friend, single dad romance. I also really enjoyed the setting of this one. It felt like the perfect book to read transitioning from summer to fall. I recommend to any romance readers looking for a bingeable and sweet read.
I want every time I read this book to be like the first time. This will be my book recommendation for the rest of the year.
This book has it all brother’s best friend, single dad, ex military, and starting over.
Maren finds her way back to the place she most feels herself after a failed proposal and some upsetting life events. Taking on the task of renovating her inheritance she runs into her brother’s annoying best friend, Josiah, but Joe is anything but annoying now.
I’d like to scream from the rooftops how much I love this book. Maren’s growth was super inspiring. The kids are literally everything, I fell in love with every little detail about them and somewhat spoiler I wanted to claw Kiley’s face off too. The easiness of everyone in the book’s relationship made everything so much more enjoyable too. Joe character is also great, he’s the right amount of protective and possessive and he’s damage is not something that is pushed to the side, he’s forced to face it as well.
Thanks Erin Hahn, St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Cute rom-com with friends to lovers and brother best friend trope among a few. I liked the main characters a lot and felt invested in the story probably would've been more invested if I had read the other books in the series. It is standalone so you don't need to read the previous books but there is mention of past characters. All in all enjoyed this book and liked it tackled some tougher issues would recommend 3/3.5 stars. I want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Maren is a 33 year old park ranger in Michigan who's boyfriend of one year applies for the same job as her and gets it and then proposes to her. She says no, throws up on his shoes, and leaves to return to her home state of Wisconsin and the property she was left by Fost, the old fisherman she spent a lot of time fishing with in her younger years. Maren loves the lake but she has work to do to fix up the property so she can sell it and decide what's next. On one of her first days there, she sees a guy and two children nearby. Turns out the guy is Josiah Cole and his two children. Josiah is 5 years older then Maren, a childhood crush, and her brother Liam's best friend. Josiah is divorced and his younger child Lucy is on the spectrum. The interactions between Maren and the children, Anders and Lucy are touching. The ex-wife Kiley is hard to like. I love the name Josiah so to have him called Joe was a bummer. Loved the story - plenty of heartfelt family moments. 4 1/2 stars.
Though it took me a few chapters before I started to really get into this story, I’m so glad I gave this sweet and swoony romance a chance! I might as well have been a musky, because I was hooked!
Catch and Keep is the perfect cozy read to transition you from summer to fall. The lakeside setting had me wanting to visit Northern Wisconsin- especially if I could find a resort like Josiah’s. And the gentle love story felt like such a hug! It made my heart so happy.
I loved the foundation Maren and Josiah built together to create their strong, well-developed relationship. Whenever a character’s mere presence makes the other feel calm, I’m sold. It was so easy to fall in love with not only the two of them as individuals, but also their relationship. And Maren’s relationship with his kids? It stole my heart!
A few other things I loved:
💕the humor
💕no third act breakup!!!
💕THE GRAND GESTURE?? 😍😍😍- SO GOOD.
I cannot wait to read more of her books!
Catch and Keep comes out October 15, 2024. Thank you St. Martin's Griffin and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this friends-to-lovers, slow burn romance early! All opinions are my own.
4.5 out of 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the ARC of Catch and Keep by Erin Hahn.
If you like the don’t date the older brother’s friend, divorced/single dad tropes, this a good pick for you. Do NOT be put off by the fishing themes and mentions of bait shops and park rangers. Yes there is an undercurrent of fishing related content but it’s not so overwhelming that it makes this a bad read. It actually adds to the cute factor in my opinion.
Maren, aka Mare or Musky Maren, is the girl who grew up loving to fish and play in the dirt, always chasing after her older brothers. Little did she know when she grew up she’d end up back at the resort that her one brother’s friend now owns. Said brother’s friend, Josiah or Joe, is the divorced and single dad. So many things could keep them apart but yet they keep seeming to come together despite all of it. And later in the kids who just seem to melt your heart as you read about them.
On top of the romance this book takes you along for the ride on, it is also great for anyone who grew up going to lakes over the summer. Spending time with family in the woods, swimming and boating in the lake and the feelings that come along with it as summer turns to fall. It gave me a very nostalgic feeling for memories I had growing up. Overall, an enjoyable read and another new author I’d like to read more books from.
First of all, I adore these MCs in their mid- and late-thirties. We are not out here figuring out who we are and bringing other people along for that messy ride. These characters are unapologetically themselves, and the only way they're letting a partner in is for someone who wants the same life they do. AND WE LOVE THAT FOR THEM.
Single dads do it for me. Every time. It's the competency. There's a scene where Joe loads the dishwasher **and immediately starts it** and Maren gets hung up on it. GIRL SAME.
I can always tell when an author has kids by how realistically they write them, and Erin Hahn is 1000% a mom. These kids are precious. And if you tell me you didn't shed a tear at "I'm Maren's baby" I'll tell you you're a dirty liar.
And the spice is funnnn!! It's on the lighter side, and it really leans into that ~teenagers fooling around trying not to get caught~ energy.
I want to thank St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this arc.
This book was so cute, it hurts. I love some older brother's best friend, but this was just perfect. The beginning was hilarious. Picture my comically agape mouth when she projectile vomits on her boyfriend after he proposes.
Maren was such a great FMC. She's sweet, she's kind, her relationship with her dog was precious. She's her own boat daddy. What more could somebody ask for?
Joe was perfect. He's a single dad, and he handles his daughter's sensory needs with ease (autism rep was done so well!). The way the relationship unfolded between him and Maren was so cozy, and it felt so natural. I need more of this in my life.
Super great romance!!
Slow burn but high chemistry immediately
Loved all characters!!
Unique romance with problems but no break up!!
This single dad romance was exactly the dose of sweetness and spice I needed in my fall TBR.
