Single dad. Brother's best friend. Autism representation and found family. 5 stars and a perfect beach read.
I loved this book. The dual POV between Joe and Maren was lovely and I absolutely adored Maren and Joe's sweet dynamic and thoughtfulness.
Joe's kids were delightful and I'm glad they were written with complexity but not in a way that felt contrived.
The tension with Liam was good but not overwrought.
I would recommend this book to anyone who appreciates a low angst, sweet romance with more mature characters. I appreciate that they were both in their 30s and had lives that were more full and chaotic with family obligations.
Fost was the bait shop owner at a lakeshore resort in Northwoods Wisconsin, who enjoyed teaching a little girl, Maren, everything there’s to know about fishing.
Now, grown up, she became his heir, being the new owner of the shop slash apartment.
She works as a park ranger, now on sabbatical, she occupies her time remodeling her new place and giving fishing tours on the complex.
The owners’ son, Joe, a single dad with two kids is smitten every time he sees Maren, but, being her brother’s friend is a little shy to ask her out.
This was my first book by Erin Hahn and I loved it! The setting, the story and the characters. If you love an outdoorsy romance this is your book.
Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press and Erin Hahn for the advanced copy.
I was gifted this copy for my honest review. This book was super cute with out being overly cheesy and so relatable. It touch on subjects that I don’t see to much in book. You follow Maren who life gets turn upside down after she turns down her boyfriend very public proposal. She fleas to her child hood vacation location. As she learns how to navigate her life she fall the hunky ex marine single dad of two amazing kids both battling their mother not being around but also Lucy is autistic. This book made me swoon, made me cry and made me hold my babies a bit tighter. There was a little spice just enough and not over the top.
Thank you to Net Galley and Macmillan Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
When Maren flees a disastrous public proposal, and heads home to Wisconsin, will she be able to put her past behind her and find a reel catch in Josiah Cole? Or will he slip off her hook at the last moment?
This story was an absolute and utter delight to read. Fast paced and breezy, I absolutely fell in love with all the characters I was supposed to and hated the ones I was supposed to. Hahn writes a great family romance, with just the right amount of open door spice to keep things interesting. Would definitely check out more by her based on this book alone!
This is my first read by this author. I decided to pick it up based on the cover and the synopsis.
If you're looking for an emotional, slow burn romance this is it. The characters are complicated and have plenty going on between the two of them. Maren has a stalker and is starting over in a new place & Joe has two kids and an unpleasant ex-wife. Their relationship developed realistically and felt mature. The characters are lovable and have you rooting for them the whole time. The main characters are in their mid-thirties which I liked. Sometimes I just want to read about characters closer to my own age haha.
I will also give points to how Joe's daughter's autism was written. I think it was well represented.
Overall, a sweet contemporary romance that packs an emotional punch.
A delightful romance with the familiar friends to lover trope. Maren's life is a bit of a mess. She's rejected her boyfriend's proposal, quit her job and moved back home to Wisconsin to take over the bait shop she inherited. Not exactly her life plan, but at least she's making the decisions and taking charge. Joe's life as a single dad is brightened by Maren-she's beautiful and his kids adore her. She makes everything in his life that much better, but is love supposed to be this easy? Both Maren and Joe have been burned by love, but what if this is the "big one" they have been each hoping to land! There's a bit of raciness in this cozy romance, so it might not be appropriate for some high school students. I have a core group of romance lovers, who will devour this sweet love story!
Thanks to Netgalley for the read!
3.5/5. This was a slow burn single dad brothers best friend romance. Was it a little tropey for me? Yes, but I did enjoy the read overall especially:
🎣 The representation of special needs with Joe’s daughter
🌭 The vibes of summer fishing
☀️ The FMC and how amazingly supportive she was
I was not a huge fan of the stalker and how that played into the plot. I didn’t think it was necessary 🤷🏼♀️ Also Joe’s ex-wife being the literal worst human alive?
Thank you NetGalley for this arc!
Erin Hahn doesn't miss! This one is a swoony, friends to lovers, best friend's little sister love story. The slow burn between the characters made their relationship feel so natural and real. Throw in the kiddos, a dog & fishing and I'm hooked. I'll definitely be purchasing when it's released in October.
3.5 🌟
Catch and Keep" is a cozy, heartwarming read that truly shines in its charming setting of Northern Wisconsin, where Maren Laughlin starts anew by taking over a run-down bait shop. Her unexpected ally, Josiah Cole, the resort owner with a big heart and even bigger challenges, makes for delightful company. The banter between Maren and Joe is a highlight, full of warmth and wit, and their easy chemistry is a breath of fresh air. As the story unfolds, their relationship grows effortlessly, drawing you in and making the ending especially satisfying. It’s in the last half of the book that I found myself loving the book even more, rooting for their sweet, well-earned resolution. Perfect for anyone looking for a feel-good romance with plenty of heart and humor.
I love everything Erin Hahn writes, but I've definitely already preordered this one so I can go back to it again and again. Regular Guy Joe might be my new favorite hero. He's just trying so hard to do his best by everyone and he cares so much it hurts. Maren is understandably wary with a really interesting relationship with her family. When they come together it's magic and I couldn't put it down. I loved Maren's family relationships and getting to see her set boundaries in her life. Joe's kids were adorable and I loved his parents. Getting to see old favorites from previous books was just the icing on the cake!
Thank you NetGalley and Erin Hahn for an eARC of Catch and Keep. I absolutely loved everything about this book. Hahn is a new author for me, I requested this book because of the setting. A native of Wisconsin, I spent every summer going "up north" to a lake, there is nothing quite like it. I loved the character development in this book and duel POV is my favorite. I cannot wait to back track and read more from Erin Hahn. The only negative about this book is the pub date! It would have made for the PERFECT summer beach read.
This book is actually 4.5 stars. I really loved it. It is easily my fave of Erin hahn’s trilogy of adult novels. I loved the idea of a former fishing influencer and her brothers best friend. The shared history and her relationship with his kids warmed my heart. I also was deeply interested in the conflicts with her stalker and his ex wife. In particular I thought the way they wrote his daughter’s autism was so well done.
This is a hug in book form
4.5 stars
I loved this one! Maren is four years younger than Joe so they were never really friends growing up. But as she spends more time with him and his kids, they become friends and develop feelings for each other. I love how organic their relationship felt. Nothing felt forced to me. They went from familiar to friendly to more. Maren and Joe's relationship with each other and Maren's relationship with his kids is beautiful.
I love the lake resort setting and Maren's history as a fishing YouTuber is so fun. I think the way Lucy's autism was presented was done well.
This is the first book I have read by Erin Hahn but I will definitely read more! Perfect for Abby Jimenez fans who want a spicier read. Fun and lighthearted while also tackling difficult subjects with emotional depth!
I don't read a ton of contemporary romances these days, but I've now read 5 of Erin's books in the last year. I will read absolutely anything she writes.
She manages to write her characters in a way that feels so authentic. They may have challenges that they need to work through, but they are always met with realistic actions and care.
Catch and Keep is no different. At the beginning of the book, we meet Maren, who returns to her childhood summer stomping grounds after an epically terrible proposal and subsequent breakup. She sets out to renovate a property she inherited but doesn't anticipate how her life will also change. Enter Josiah Cole, her brother's best friend and single dad.
Now, there are a lot of tropes in this that aren't usually my thing (small town, brother's best friend, single dad), but I trusted Erin to take me on the journey and I'm so glad I did. I loved these two.
Erin is an auto-read author for me. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an eARC of this book for an honest review.
The leads in this story, with their rich backstories and emotional depth, quickly captured my attention and kept me invested throughout the novel. What stood out to me was the dynamic between the main characters. Their evolving relationship, marked by both challenges and moments of vulnerability, was portrayed with such authenticity that it felt like witnessing real-life growth and connection. This emotional resonance is something I always look for in a good romance, and Hahn delivered it beautifully.
Infinity stars! This is what all other romcoms want to be. This is book set the bar moving forward. I will read anything that Erin Hahn writes.
Catch and Keep-- just marvelous. It was a brother's best friend/childhood romance, slight age gap (5 years), and NO third act breakup.
After Joe, left the military to settle back where he grew up with his wife and two kids, he quickly learned that that was not the life his wife wanted. After learning of their youngest's autism, Kiley decided to abandon her family leaving Joe to put his life back together for himself and his kids.
Maren, after declining a marriage proposal gone wrong, went back to where she considered the best part of her childhood to deal with an inheritance that was a bait shop and apartment. Renovations planned and then onto her next chapter-- whatever that was.
These two, or rather four, fall into an easy rhythm with some hiccups along the way. Their story was emotional and beautiful. I could not stop rooting for their lovestory.
I don't want to have left the resort and I will revisit time and time again! Already a favorite book of mine
This is my first Erin Hahn book and I picked it for that reason.
I adored this book. The read was well paced and a “comfort” read. The two main characters are well written and interesting on their own, but also together. The dynamics of the relationships, friendships, and family really warmed my heart, because it felt very natural and true to how those relationships would be. The spice was the perfect amount without being too much for the story and characters.
It comes with alot of background story, while also keeping an even pace in the current story. I highly recommend this for someone looking for a feel good easy Romance read. I cant wait to dive into more of her books!
Admittedly, I picked this one up because it releases on my birthday. I was so happy I did because it was a fun and heartwarming love story. I loved the slow burn and the chemistry between the main characters. Nice amount of spiciness and love how the book ended. I did not love her older brother's character even after he apologized. Wasn't sure how far the Bryce subplot was going to go and it made me a bit anxious every time she had an encounter with him. Excited to read Erin Hahn's other books as this was my first by her.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an arc of this book.
Josiah and Maren. I really enjoyed this book and the character development of both of them. This is a story of two people who “shouldn’t” be together but clearly are meant to be. It was a very sweet stories with lots of relationships that made the book that much richer - friends, family, former loves. I loved how inspiring and strong Maren’s character was and showed readers that you can be strong and find love and someone that supports and lifts you up. Overall, this was a great read that I would recommend to others.
