Thank you NetGalley, st Martin’s Press, and Erin Hahn for the early access copy of Catch and Keep.
Catch and Keep was such a refreshing read that made me long for time at the cabin. The story follows Maren rediscovering herself when she heads back to the small-town she grew up in after her ex’s failed proposal. The story is told in a dual point-of-view between Maren and Joe. Joe is an ex-marine who is Maren’s older brother’s best friend who lives in the small-town with his children. Joe is a single father to two children. The stories depiction of children and one with autism was realistic and well-done. The chemistry between Joe and Maren was addicting and comforting, I could not put this book down:
Catch and Keep is a small-town, brother’s best friend, friends-to-lovers rom com.
This is my second book to read by Erin Hahn, and I'm not sure I enjoyed it as much. While I did like the main characters, something felt off, or odd to me. I can't quite place my finger on it. I do think Erin is a great writer and the words just flow so great, but it fell a little flat to me.
Thank you netgalley for an arc of Catch and Keep by Erin Hahn
A great book! Don’t hesitate, you should read it! This is the first book I have read by the author (this works as a standalone book) but I have added her other books to my TBR. The author does a great job of writing a love story that while it’s predictable has depth and well constructed characters that you want to root for. I read the book in a few hours as I couldn’t put it down! This book has steam, humor, and is an easy read. I appreciated that there was also growth by the characters and relatability. Overall, just a joyful read. I was honestly sad when I finished the book as I didn’t want it to be over.
I really enjoyed this book. Josiah and Maren were great protagonists. I loved how Maren fell in love with the kids as she was falling for Joe. I especially loved Maren's relationship with Lucy and teared up a few times.
I thought it was weird and not at all in line with her character that Maren was in pageants as an adolescent
I also thought some of the cultural references were weird (i.e. multiple references to Jimmy Buffet).
Overall, I loved this book. I plan to check out Hahn's other books.
Maren returns to a favorite childhood spot after a proposal gone wrong. There she unites with her older brother's (now hot) best friend who is a single dad living in town running a resort.
I loved this book! I can often tell that I enjoyed a book if I am continuing to think about it the next day. I did not want it to end. A fabulous slow burn romance that addresses some important topics (single parenting, starting over, setting boundaries). There was character development and I enjoyed the involvement of all the 'side' characters.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC!
I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy because the cover and description really appealed to me! I didn’t know this was part of a series, but I thought it read well as a stand alone. This was my first Erin Hahn book, and it won’t be my last! I found this book really enjoyable. Big thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy! Publication date October 15, 2024.
I ended up reading this book in one day, its a brothers best friend trope and it seriously is so good. I couldn't stop reading this book, I loved that it was a single dad with full custody you don't get much of those and it was a nice change of pace to get that. Also the daughter has autism and having that myself it was good having this normalized and not making it a bad thing. Im so happy I got to read this book and I am so ready to buy it
This book absolutely captured my heart. I loved the authenticity of this childhood friends to lovers relationship, with a hint of second chance. The way both Maren and Joe both secretly pine after each other after all these years is beautiful. This book had a beautiful sense of small town feels, protective families and pure love. The way Maren didn't hesitate to love Joe's daughter, despite her diagnosis melted my heart. The author really captured the struggles of a single parent dating again after heartbreak and wanting to not only protect his heart but his daughters heart at the same time. I loved that Hahn portrayed the struggle of a parent not wanting to love their children as they are. Hahn did an excellent job of accurately describing a child with Autism without glamourizing it, but showing the beautiful days as well as the tough ones. I really appreciated Maren's character and the way Hahn showed that sometimes tough love from protective siblings isn't always as sweet as some people make it out to be and can hurt the people involved. Overall this was a beautifully authentic love story that had the right amount of spice, sweet moments and heartbreak. I absolutely recommend this book to everyone!
I don't know if its possible to put into words how much I enjoyed this book. Maren is special. I don't know if that's because I relate so much to her? That dedication at the beginning for all the lake girls. The ones with weeds in their hair... Or if its adult Maren who refuses a public proposal in such a vibrant and horrible way. Either way, from the words before the words and then onwards- I immediately felt connected to our MFC and to her story.
Add in the love story and the way she fit into Joe's life with Anders and Lucy. I read through the night and then immediately backtracked and bought Shelby and Cam's story and am currently reading the second in the series about Lorelai and Craig. I will be diving through Erin Hahn's stories until this comes out in October and I can buy it and put it on my shelf.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's for the ARC, I absolutely loved it and recommend it with all my heart.
A heroine who loves fishing the lakes of northern Wisconsin and takes crotchety old guys out on tours for the elusive musky inherits a bait shop that she's going to clean out and refurbish to sell herself. A single dad with a son who loves to wear glitter nail polish and a daughter who's on the spectrum. What's not to like? Of course we want them to get together. Add in an overbearing way too over-involved older brother and awesome girlfriends.
4 ⭐️. This book was the cozy contemporary romance read I’ve been desperate for.. this was also my first Erin Hahn book. I didn’t realize this was book 3 in a trio of books, so it will ruin the ending of the other two books but according to me it works as a standalone. I definitely want to go back and read the other two about Maren’s bffs who make appearances in this book.
Admittedly, I picked this one up because I love small town/lake vibes and it releases on my birthday. I know nothing about fishing… in fact I have zero interest in fishing and this still worked for me. This book is about Maren, a mid 30s park ranger running from a bad relationship/proposal gone wrong. She goes to a small lake town where she grew up and was willed property and gets help from an old childhood friend, Joe and his family to help fix up the property.
I loved the characters and life’s nuances it portrayed… mid 30s, single dad with two kids (one with ASD), terrible ex wife, large families, caring best friends. I loved the connection between Maren and Joe’s kids, I really liked how Lucy’s autism contributed to the story. I can go on and on, I teared up multiple times which always moves my star rating up when it hits my emotions. I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Of course it wasn’t perfect, some of the writing tripped me up and the pageant girl that is also the tomboy fishing girl? It plays all too perfect. I also wanted more with the Bryce subplot. But in the end I really enjoyed it and it should be a must read on your fall tbr coming out October 15, 2024.
Huge thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Erin Hahn for this egalley in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book, the story was easy to read and follow and I enjoyed the characters. Catch and Keep I think is relatable to an older audience but still a fun and enjoyable read for younger readers. I enjoyed the pits and falls of learned to manage the shop and getting to know each other. Thanks for a fun read.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin for an arc of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Catch and Keep is the third in an interconnected series of novels. It can be read as standalone but will spoil the endings of the first two novels.
This book was something special. It is a brother’s best friend to friend to lovers romance with a special group of friends, family, and the cutest kids.
Maren is the last of the Shelby/Lorelai/Maren trio to search for her happily ever after. Following a … nauseating response to a proposal by her ex-boyfriend, Maren escapes to her safe space. She goes back to the lake that taught her peace and how to fish. Maren’s late fishing friend/teacher left her an inheritance and now is as good a time as any to go fix it up. Then, she runs into Joe, her brother’s best friend, divorced dad of two with the cutest - but not overly precocious like most kids in novels - kids around…
Maren is, by far, my favorite of the trio. She is smart, kind, attentive, and truly a heck of a good human. Joe is an incredible father who does every possible thing for his kids as well as for the resort he and his parents own. Reading about these two learning to care for each other, lean on each other, and fall for each other was a joy. Seeing Maren jump in to help Joe when he struggles as a single parent was incredible.
The side characters in this book were something else as well. Maren and Joe’s parents, Maren’s brother Liam (every older brother that cares about his little sister, while forgetting she is a full fledged adult), Maren’s SIL Jess, and at the top of the list - Anders and Lucy. Anders is the sweetest older brother to his little sister Lucy. Anders defies gender norms with pink and sparkly nail polish, absolutely loves fishing, and would do anything for his sister. Lucy has her good days and bad days, but is such an incredible artist and is only four. She lit up every page she was on. I couldn’t get enough of those two kids.
There may or may not have been some fun cameos, too.
TW: Minor character stalks a MC, but does not physically harm her and does not technically break any laws. Absentee parent. Absentee parent blaming child for her autism. Brother infantalizing and undermining abilities of adult younger sisterI’m
The story was well crafted and captivating. Cute characters that are relatable. Erin Hahn is becoming an author I look for.
There is a reason why Erin Hahn is my biggest auto author. This. This is why. Her writing style is unmatched in my opinion. The way she builds her characters to continuously grow into people you feel like you personally know. I have been waiting for Maren to get her time to shine. And the way I fell in love with Josiah Cole from the opening line signifying him, done for. He had me in a chokehold. The way Maren and Joe just melted together so effortlessly was everything that my aching heart needed. The side characters Hahn writes are always top tier. They help carry the story on at full speed. While reading this, all I kept saying to my husband was, “I want to be fishing right now! I want to be out on the water! Can we take the canoe out?!” I fell in love with Lucy so fast- and I was audibly fighting for her right along with Maren. To say I devoured this book is an understatement. I already want to reread this book. 😂 I was so happy with how much Shelby and Lorelei were in the book bringing you back into the three amigos world. I want best friends like that!
A friends to lovers story with two thirtysomethings was just the romance vibe I needed in my life. This story was just so, so great. Maren is back in her hometown after turning down her boyfriend's proposal (in some kind of way) after inheriting an old bait shop that is terrible shape. Once back in town, she reconnects with her brother's best friend Joe. And as you might infer, the friendship starts to go into something more. I loved the way the romance developed, and I also loved that it was layered with emotions connected to kids and divorce and family and jobs and so many things. There was also some really great banter, and it was just a gem of a romance. If you're looking for a great catch (sorry, I had to) of a romance, this is one y'all! Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this October 2024 release!

💖 Lake romance
💖 Sunshine/sunshine

This is an adorable story about Marnen, a fishing enthusiast and park ranger, who runs away from her life after answering her boyfriend’s unexpected proposal by vomiting all over him. She ends up at the lake she spent her childhood summers on with the plan of renovating a property left to her by a late fishing mentor.
She soon runs into Joe, her big brother’s best friend, and learns he is a divorced dad of two. Despite her brother’s warning to stay away from him, sparks soon begin to fly.
I have enjoyed everything I’ve read by Erin Hahn and this was no exception. Her characters are beautifully complex and their emotions are clearly displayed on the page.
My only reason for deducting a star was due to a subplot that I would have liked to see developed more. It did not detract from the plot, but I also did not feel like it added much when it really could have.
While you wait for publishing day, read the love stories of Maren’s two best friends:
💖 Built to Last
💖 Friends Don’t Fall in Love
This read will be perfect for fans of Lucy Score and Mia Sheridan!
Open door spice: a few on-page spicy scenes
Content warning: stalker vibes
Thank you to Erin Hahn and NetGalley for the ARC!
Maren has just turned down her boyfriend's proposal and needs a new start renovating the old bait shop and apartment that was left to her by an old friend. Josiah is struggling being a single parent with two kids and running the resort his family owns. Maren returns to the Northwoods and is reacquainted with her brother's best friend, Josiah. Maren is soon working at the resort as a fishing guide and becoming an integral part in Josiah and his children's lives. Will Maren find a way to become a permanent person in their lives or is this really just temporary?
I really enjoyed this book. I have read Built to Last and Friends Don't Fall in Love that feature Maren's best friends as the main characters. I think that Catch and Keep has been my favorite of the three books. The connection between Josiah and Maren is so genuine and the way that Maren is able to be there for his children is heartwarming.
I appreciated the autism rep in Lucy, Josiah's daughter. I felt that some descriptions of her autism were a little out of date and the feminine colors and things that her brother Anders enjoyed did not do anything for the plot or his character development.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and I would recommend this book!
I dunno guys, I just couldn't get over the fact that she volleyed between viewing him as an older brother and being her sexual awakening as a kid. :/
Also didn't really like those couple of sentences referring to autistic people as "people with autism" and the MMCs daughter as his "daughter with autism". They're just autistic people/autistic kids (which was the verbiage used throughout afterwards). It's like they forgot to take those two instances out. Hope when the book is published those instances will have been scrubbed.
Catch And Keep by Erin Hahn is a slow-burn, friends-to-lovers, big-brothers-best-friend romance that is simultaneously sexy and sweet. Maren, an avid fisherwoman, returns to her favorite lake in Wisconsin for some space to think after a disasterous proposal that has her rethinking her life. She inherited an old cabin and bate shop from one of her fishing mentors, and she renovates it as she plans her next step in life. Mid renovation, she trips and lands in the bed of her big bro's bestie Joe. Oops! Joe is a single father of two and is busy managing his family's resort.... did I mention he's her brother's best friend?! Things are a bit complicated, to say the least but they soon realize that their relationship is much more than casual.
Thank you #NetGalley, St. Martins Press and Author Erin Hahn for early access to read Catch and Keep in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed it and spent the whole book rooting for Maren and Joe!
