This was told by both Amber and Nicola. Not only do you get both their perspectives, you get a dual timeline from Nicola that bounces from 1979 and before in 1835 to get a better picture of her backstory. Amber was desperate to escape Nicola, and was very young when she was turned into a vampire. Nicola was not a very likable character, and wanted to control everyone.
Although this cover is stunning, I wanted more. The first line of the book sold me, but then it just was a very slow burn. There was not a lot of gore sadly, which I would expect in a book about vampires. It was just disco, nightclubs, and these two people playing games. I am finding out that I am not so much a character driven kinda girl, and I don’t really like a cat and mouse plot that drags on too long. If you are more of a character driven kind of reader, this one would be perfect for you!
“We only hunt the ones that deserve it.” The Dexter’s of 🧛♀️!!
“𝘞𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴.
The darkness is all we know.
It’s all we have.”
Ok so this is written by the author of Stone Cold Fox, which I read last year and gave 5 stars to! And the first line of my review is HOLY SHITBALLS, so my anticipation was high.
Unfortunately, though, this one did not live up to that expectation for me. I almost DNF’d on multiple occasions and truly only finished because I am not a quitter 😆. I just could not get invested in the characters or the storyline. I never felt immersed in this crazy vampire world the way I wanted to be.
I will still continue to read anything this author writes, though. That’s how much I enjoyed Stone Cold Fox! Not every book is for every person and that is ok.
Thank you Netgalley, Berkley Publishing, and the author for the complimentary ARC.
Way too cheesy for my taste. I wanted to love this but found it to be too macabre. Perhaps it’s just me but it felt stunted.
What happens when you find yourself in a toxic eternal friendship with a narcissistic vampire who you realize manipulated you into becoming a vampire in the first place? And what happens when you realize you want to escape said toxic eternal friendship by any means necessary?
We Love the Nightlife grapples with that very scenario and explores the nuances and volatility that come from relationships based upon lies. Told in dual POV, the story follows multiple timelines (Amber’s POV addresses the present, Nicola’s the past) and weaves both protagonists’ stories together in a way that ramps up the tension for the climatic finale of the book. And there’s a clever perspective twist thrown in for good measure that will give readers even more context into one of the main characters.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and the themes that were mined. I thought that it was such an interesting perspective to focus on a platonic relationship and how it can be just as emotional and complicated as a romantic one. Also, I would love to see this novel become a limited series, because it would be visually stunning.
This was my third book from Koller Croft and it did not disappoint. I love when authors do something a bit different and the focus on vampires in this was just so fun. . As much of a role as the vampires play in this, you won’t find a ton of gore or paranormal elements. The characters were complex and interesting. The main theme of this is female friendshio so if you love a book with complicated relationships then definitely check this one out.
Thank you to PRH, Berkley, and PRH audio for the review copies and invite to a book tour.
“We Love the Nightlife” is a wild, disco-infused romp—no other word captures the essence quite like "romp"—through a chaotic and entertaining story of female vampires navigating the messiness of an increasingly toxic friendship. While it marks a departure from “Stone Cold Fox,” Koller Croft’s signature style and flair remain intact. She masterfully crafts the slippery tension of a female friendship on the brink of implosion, leaving the reader eagerly anticipating the fallout. With layered themes of revenge and cat-and-mouse suspense, Croft keeps the plot pulsing with energy, making this a story you won't want to put down.
After her amazing debut, I was so excited to read Rachel’s new book! The way it starts with the first sentence: “I should have known the party was over when she casually suggested killing my husband back in 1981.” I knew this was going to be a fun book! I love how Rachel makes you laugh and have fun while reading thrillers! Like throwing in a Spice Girls lyric to describe a character 🙌🏼 All of the characters are witty and relatable and developed so perfectly, even the ones with not a huge role, I find myself being invested in them! Vampires are everywhere this year in publishing and I felt like this was such a different take on the trend! Making vampires who are into disco music, dancing, and of course have an incinerator in their house.. 🤣 There were some superb twists that I never would have guessed and added so much to the book! Highly recommend this one for all book lovers! It’s a great time in a book!
4.5 stars.
This is everything I loved about Louis and Lestat in Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire," but make the story women vampires in present-day London.
That reveal at the end was totally unexpected, but a fantastic way to wrap up this story about love and rejection.
This book was such a good read, I'm going to go read "Stone Cold Fox" now.
This book is perfect for those who love Anne Rice and want to reminisce and feel those vibes of the bond between two vampires.

Phew. That ending was wild and this whole book honestly was wild. My expectation for what this book was when I started and at the end were completely different and now I kind of feel like I should re-read it with my eyes open. It felt like a slow burn at first and then it really ramped up at the end with the tension. I'll be honest I could not understand what the hype was about at first; it seemed like just a party girl novel but with a vampire twist. But it was gory and a creepy and the second half got it's hooks in me.
What a fun spin on a thriller (because vampires always are a winner right?!) that I enjoyed!
I liked this just fine. Amber and Nicola are vampires and Amber has steadily gotten more aware of how toxic their friendship is and more tired of the way Nicola controls her. (Nicola is her maker). Then there is this last straw moment that pushes Amber to finally figure out a way to get away from Nicola for good. She has a plan and is going to execute it, hopefully, she survives, but either way, she'll be free.
We get alternate timelines and POVs between Amber and Nicola, Nicola's is in the past, and we are learning how she met Amber and how she was eventually turned. We focused mostly on Amber, which was good because I disliked Nicola and how she trapped the people she called friends into her life. The beginning I felt was slower, it did start to pick up towards the middle. I did enjoy the ending where we get to see the showdown between the friends and how that all played out.
There were some great twists that I didn't see coming, and I liked the side characters quite a bit.
While this didn't 100 % work for me, I found the plot unique and will read other books by this author in the future.
We Love The Nightlife was SO BLOODY FUN.
A light vampire thriller with a heavy dose of toxic female friendships and a cat-and-mouse storyline. What’s not to love? It’s a fresh take on vampires against the glamorous backdrop of the London club scene. From the dancing, music, fashion, and of course, vampire drama, I had a blast with this!
I love a dual POV and timeline thriller so this did not disappoint. Bonus points to the author for writing a character (Nicola) who is awful but I still sometimes found myself rooting for.
Amber was my FAVORITE but there are some amazing side characters here in Roddy, Courtenay and Jonathan.
The twist near the end SHOCKED me!
I’m also going to need to read Stone Cold Fox ASAP.
This should definitely be on your fall TBR!
We Love the Nightlife is a contemporary paranormal fiction novel about a female vampire desperate to escape her “maker” after over forty years of deadly control.
When twenty-three-year-old Amber met the glamorous Nicola in a disco in 1979, she was new to London, bored in her marriage, and stunning on the dance floor. Nicola had to keep her at any cost, even if it meant asking her new best friend to give up her human life for the eternal beauty of being a vampire. But over forty years later, Amber feels increasingly manipulated and betrayed by her maker and wants to be free. But can she stay one step ahead of Nicola?
We Love the Nightlife is an exciting and glamorous novel about two women who were once the best of friends but slowly dissolve into a toxic relationship. Despite the drama of wealth, blood, and the endless party, at its core, this is a novel about freedom and living life on your own terms, even if it means leaving someone you love.
** spoiler alert ** Am I the only one who thought/hoped Jonathan would lock them both in the study in the last paragraphs? That could be a perfect ending, in my opinion.
I truly enjoyed this book - vampire romps are rarely this self-aware. The narration from the two (three?) points of view was perfect, and the gradual reveal of the twists was creative and made for good pacing.
Koller Croft did a great job with the atmosphere, adding the music and history to it skillfully.
My only confusion is with Nicola's apocalyptic comments that never went anywhere? I feel like a chapter was cut there.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for the early reader's copy in exchange for my honest review.
1970s London and vampires? Yes please! 😍 We Love the Nightlife was a slow burn but soooo worth it. I found this to be such a fun read and can’t wait to read more from this author. If you like vampires, disco dancing, toxic friendships, and horror-y drama, make sure to put this on your TBR. Many thanks to Berkley for my eARC. We Love the Nightlife is available today.
In 1979, Amber just wants to go to clubs and dance to disco music. When she meets Nicola, she promises Amber an all-night party, for the rest of her life. The only catch, she’d have to become a vampire.
I fell in love with the cover of this book, so when Berkley asked if I wanted to join this blog tour, I signed right up. I’m so glad I did because this was such a well written vampire story that I totally sunk my teeth into. I’m not a big reader of vampire books, but Rachel Koller Croft might have changed me.
The toxic friendship between Amber and Nicola really made this so much more than just a story about vampires. Told in dual perspectives and timelines, everything just worked so well, and I felt transported to the past while loving the present storyline just as much. The setting of London was perfect, and I loved how descriptive yet not too gory it was. The author’s witty yet seductive writing will make everyone want to take a big bite out of this one!
I started off reading the physical copy then switched to the audiobook which was amazing! Katherine Lee McEwan and Suzanne Elise Freeman were the perfect narrators for this story. They both did multiple accents, and they did them so well. I honestly thought there were more than two narrators while listening. I highly recommend listening to this juicy story if you can.
Thank you Berkley, PRH Audio, and NetGalley for advanced copies in exchange for my honest review!
I knew this would be fun, and I was right! Put on your dancing shoes because we are gonna party until the break of dawn lol get it …
You all know toxic friendships are my fav trope and this one delivered in the ultimate way. A toxic friend you are stuck with….forever. This was a cat and mouse sort of suspense where we get both POVs from our main MCs. I think it helped keep you rooting for both separately. Croft’s writing is so witty and of the moment. The twist at the end was spectacular and I love the ultimate revenge of it! The setting, the glitz, the glamour and the sex….this was just such a vibe!
𝘞𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 Is a dual timeline & dual POV fantasy thriller about 2 women Nicola & Amber.
Nicola & Amber meet one night at a disco club in 1979, & Nicola wants to spend the rest of eternity with Amber. This is possible because Nicola is a vampire & gives Amber the choice to turn & live with her forever.
Almost 50 years later, Amber learns of a deep betrayal from Nicola & sets up a way to leave. However, she finds that it is very hard to leave Nicola (as others who have tried wound up dead). Nicola can sense Amber turning away & proposes that they open up a disco club of their own; one unlike found today. Amber agrees, while secretly setting up her escape; but if she fails, everything is in jeopardy.
3/5: I don’t normally go for books, but this was a good read. If you’re expecting 𝘛𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 vampires, this is not it 😂 in a very good way!
I liked the dual POVs & the dual timelines; I just kind of wish there was more about Nicola’s past but her backstory is kind of written in a way you KNOW what happened, but not really at the same time. I am the type of reader that needs something concrete.
I really appreciated the twists in this book because I didn’t see them coming.
Overall, I think this would make a good book club pick!
TL;DR: The author of STONE COLD FOX returns with her delightful spin on all things vampires, set against the backdrop of the disco scene. I enjoyed SCF more, but there’s a lot to lean into here, including a fun third-act twist. Koller-Croft clearly has a very specific voice in her writing, and I think I struggled to with that here.
Thank you to Berkley, NetGalley, and Rachel Koller Croft for the e-arc of We Love the Nightlife in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really wanted to like this. Toxic female friendships, disco, vampires. I was expecting more drama, but this fell a little flat for me. Some of the passages read more like I was reading a middle school or high school girl’s diary which made it hard to believe the characters were actual adults. There was a lot of focus on the party life and disco and I would have liked a little more on the vampire dynamics.
The plot dragged a bit until the last quarter. Until that point I could have easily set down the book and not picked it back up.
We Love the Nightlife by Rachel Koller Croft is a bloody glamorous & suspenseful horror regarding the drama & dynamics of friendship between women that just so happen to be ageless vampires. It’s an intriguing mashup of horror meets toxic relationship filled thriller with some women’s fiction. With the immortality of the vampires, it was a treat experiencing their lives with emphasis on youth & the nightlife starting all the way back to disco & then even with the entrance of social media of today.
We Love the Nightlife is great for fans of…
🖤 Horror
🖤 Vampires
🖤 Genre Mashup
🖤 Drama
This is nothing like I’ve read before but its’ intrigue kept me flipping the pages. This explored the complexity of hierarchy within the vampire world from creator to their creations & then added in sprinkles of interesting & immense history & backgrounds. I want to keep this vague so I won’t give anything away but I love a good twisty moment of surprise & this delivered that.
If you are looking for something bloody unique & slightly spooky, perfect for the fall, then I recommend giving We Love the Nightlife a bite!
Massive thanks to NetGalley & Berkley Publishing for the gifted copy, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.
