That was sadly not my cup of tea.
I loved the whole construct of every chapter being a body part, but the writing itself felt really chaotic.

(Maybe I didn’t really get the book, because English isn’t my mother language)

Let me just say that I don't believe this was a bad poetry collection at all, it just simply wasn't for me and my personal tastes when it comes to poetry. I am not a fan of narrative poems; poems that tell stories using prose techniques, big paragraphs, etc. For this reason, a lot of the narrative poems didn't resonate with me. For the other poems, I felt like many of them were disjointed, especially in the middle. I felt like some of the poems would have benefitted from more editing and breaking them down to be more concise. In the longer poems, I often felt that the beginning in the end were very powerful and poignant, but then I got lost in the middle. My favourite section of this collection was definitely Ovaries, specifically "I Am Woman". Overall, I think that if you like longer, more narrative style poetry, then I think that this collection is more for you.

Some of my favourite poems in this collection:
- I Am Woman
- The Garden
- Cake
- There is healing in the breaths of babes
- Euthanasia

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Body is a collection of poems and short stories about all parts of the body from the lungs and intestines to the foot bones and shoulders. The book focuses on love, loss, and trauma written in a lyrical way with the message of taking these wounds and hurts and finding strength and empowerment from them to rise through tough times and hardships. This book was a little hit and miss for me, but I would still read more from this author.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book.

This is a cute creative exercise, but it didn't seem like the work of a professional writer. A teenager who has potential yes; but as a book, no.

I like the idea of the poems being connected or in theme with a certain body part. The emotions set by each verse feels raw and emotional.

These are intense, with a theme using different parts of the body to show experiences of loss and grief and strength after loss. The language is really good and the messages are cathartic.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Such a beautifully written collection of poems and short stories, would highly recommend.
The book deals mostly with themes of love, loss, trauma and female empowerment and some of the poems hit very close to home for me.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
