Volume 7 of Something is Killing the Children features the dark gruesome artwork that defines the series with the suspense of Erica's showdown with the increasingly unhinged Cutter. This installment in the series will please readers with the suspense and action they've come to expect from Tynion's graphic novels. This volume leads readers into the expansion of the Something is Killing the Children universe with volumes featuring characters from the other houses of hunters, Cutter, Slaughter, and Butcher. I look forward to see what else Tynion has instore for this epic horror series of graphic novels.

Honestly, I just love these books. They are awful, raw and not for the weak. Children are dying, as the title says, and not only that, they are being ripped apart.

The art is perfect for the gritty story and I really look forward to keep reading this series

Book Review: Something is Killing the Children Vol. 7 (Minimal Spoilers)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)

"Something is Killing the Children Vol. 7" by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Werther Dell’Edera delivers a gripping conclusion to the Tribulation saga, showcasing the intense showdown between Erica Slaughter and the relentless Cutter.

After narrowly surviving the Duplicitype, Erica faces the formidable task of confronting Cutter to protect the residents of Tribulation. Separated from her ally Dolly and driven by a vengeful rage, Cutter is unwavering in her pursuit of Erica, setting the stage for a high-stakes confrontation. (simonandschuster.com)

Tynion's storytelling continues to captivate, weaving a narrative that balances action with emotional depth. He remains my favorite graphic novel author, consistently crafting stories that are as gripping as they are enthralling. Dell’Edera’s artwork complements the narrative perfectly, and its gritty nature enhances the overall sense of dread that the story provides. The visual intensity adds to the unease, making every page feel both suspenseful and immersive.

The pacing maintains tension throughout, keeping readers engaged from start to finish. However, some readers might find the resolution of certain plot threads to be somewhat abrupt, leaving a desire for more exploration of character motivations and backstories. Despite this, the volume succeeds in delivering a satisfying conclusion to the arc, while leaving room for future developments in the series.

Fans of horror and action-packed storytelling will find Something is Killing the Children Vol. 7 a compelling read that stays true to the series' strengths. Its blend of dynamic artwork and engaging narrative makes it a noteworthy addition to the genre.

This volume solidifies the series' reputation for delivering thrilling and emotionally resonant stories. I cannot wait to see what Tynion has in store for

I continue to enjoy this series. It is dark, so make sure to check triggers. Erica is a badass FMC who isn’t perfect but does the best she can to help those around her. I will definitely be continuing this series.

💀SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN VOL. 7💀 by @jamesthefourth and illustrated by @wertherscut - thank you to the author, @netgalley and the publisher @boom_studios for the e-ARC.

This series follows Erica Slaughter, a nightmare monster fighting machine trained by an elite, ancient and secret cult of supposed protectors and monster hunters, The Secret Order of St. George - The House of Slaughter. You see, monsters are real and the fears of children birth them into the world. But only monster hunters and children can see the monsters which makes the work a bit lonely. Even more so since Erica does not currently see eye to eye with her ancient order and is operating solo. When a monster with an uncanny resemblance to Erica comes in to play though, she may have to heal old partnerships.

I.LOVE.THIS.SERIES

In 2024, I read 7 volumes of the now 8 available volumes of this series and it just kept getting better. Not only is the creature feature and associated series lore intriguing, but there is a lot of underlying depth of emotion.

Here is what you can look forward to in this series:
⭐Horror graphic novels
⭐Shapeshifting, semi-invisible monsters conjured up by children's raw emotions
⭐Adults who see crazy things happen right in front of them that they can't explain
⭐Small town weirdness of Archer's Peak
⭐Swords, chainsaws and creepy masks
⭐Secret societies
⭐Monster slaying

I have not read the final volume of this series but can't wait to find a copy! Also, there are obviously more than just monsters that come to harm in this series - please check TWs and read with care!

A good addition to the series, bur doesn't necessarily add a whole lot to Erica Slaughter's story arc.

A beautifully drawn, gory and devastating, action-packed conclusion to the current story arc. I am so invested in Erica and her mission. I want more now. Also I need to know more about the Order of St. George. They are so unhinged.

The artwork is fantastic. I haven't read the first six volumes. I wouldn't recommend jumping in at this point like I did as I missed a lot of context. The first two thirds of this was slow, mainly consisting of characters talking. Since I didn't have background on the characters, I didn't always know what was going on. The male characters were extraneous to the plot of this volume, but maybe they're more integral in other volumes. I'm glad I stuck with it to the end, though, because the last third is action-packed and contains a brutal ending with a few surprise twists.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me an e-arc! This series just keeps dragging me back. Every chapter is something new and exciting! I can’t wait to see what happens next! And to hopefully stop being so heartbroken!

I have been a big fan of this series for some time and of most of James Tynion's work (it does not hurt that he could not be nicer). This one was a suspenseful heartbreaker and I do not want to give too much away but I will say that it lives up to the rest of the series. The end of this saga leaves Erica profoundly changed and I look forward to seeing how the events in this arc impact her in the future.

The art is, as always, great. So different from "normal comic art" that it is really difficult to imagine anyone else on this book. The story is clear, with great characterization. The pacing is perfect. New characters are introduced and Tynion, with his usual skill, draws you into their orbit.

A great read!

Something is Killing the Children Vol 7

Book 204/250
Genre: Horror, Fantasy
Format: Digital, Graphic Novel, RC

The Tribulation saga comes to its intense conclusion in Something is Killing the Children vol 7. And this is fantastic! Tynion and Dell’Edera deliver a bloody and gruesome climax to what has been nothing short of an excellent arc. With both the duplicitype and Cutter gunning for Erica, our hero has to make a final stand. Spoilers ahead.

This volume builds toward the showdown between Erica, Cutter, and the monster and ends in the most devastating way possible. As the issues progress, Cutter becomes more and more unhinged without her doll leading her to track down Erica and poison Gabbi. Heartbreaking. The whole reason Erica traveled to Tribulation for not. In turn, Erica kills Cutter and Gabbi sacrifices herself to the duplicitype to poison it. This hit so hard and honestly, I’m not ok. Yet even how dark and disturbing this is, I cannot put it down!

The hit series is back with more of the same. The world-building is slowing the story a bit, but I’m invested now, and want to see where she goes from here. The artwork remains appropriate to the style of the story.

Jumping into 'Something is Killing the Children', Vol. 7 without prior knowledge of the series can be a daunting experience, and this volume reflects that. James Tynion IV crafts a dark narrative filled with horror and tension, but for new readers, the lack of context can be a significant barrier.

The story centers around Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter, as she faces off against terrifying creatures that prey on children. Tynion's writing is engaging, and the dialogue often carries a sharp wit that lightens the heavy atmosphere. The artwork by Werther Dell'Edera is striking and effectively conveys the horror elements, making the action scenes visually compelling.

However, the plot can feel confusing for those unfamiliar with earlier volumes. Key character motivations and backstory are often assumed knowledge, which may leave new readers feeling lost. While there are intriguing elements - like the exploration of the town’s dark secrets - the pacing can feel slow, and the narrative lacks a clear direction without the foundation built in previous installments.

Character development is another area where this volume struggles. Erica's journey is compelling, but without a deeper understanding of her past and relationships, her emotional stakes may not resonate as strongly with newcomers.

In conclusion, 'Something is Killing the Children', Vol. 7 offers a chilling glimpse into a dark world with solid artwork and engaging dialogue. However, for those not already invested in the series, it may feel like a fragmented experience that lacks the necessary context to fully appreciate its depth. It might be best to start from the beginning to grasp the intricacies of the story and characters.

I adore this series so much, and I'm really sad that this arc is over! I picked Something is Killing the Children up on a whim earlier this year because I wanted some more graphic novels to read during my 28 Books in 28 Days challenge. I had seen one of my book friends recommend this one although I couldn't remember what it was about. I'm so happy to have followed Erica's story so far, and getting to see Erica and Cutter's showdown was an incredible experience.

This was a great final instalment in the arc, and I will absolutely be rereading this series sometime soon. Probably for my next reading challenge!

When this arc started, I felt it was a bit repetitive of the previous story arcs, but it really turned around in this and the previous volume. I think Cutter started out menacing, and then became a bit silly in this book, but that's a minor gripe. I liked the visual echo of young Erica with Gabi.

If I have one complaint, it's that Werther Dell’Edera's art (which is generally excellent) is hard to read in action scenes, sometimes even downright confusing.
