Love this series. Truly gets crazier and crazier every volume! The art work is phenomenal and the story line is edgy and funny and sad and everything you need to keep you hooked. You root for them so hard and the bad guys are just so good at being bad.
Thank you to netgalley for the arc. Fantastic addition to the series my heart breaks for erica, I'm loving this series and all of the spinoffs
WOW!! This was fantastic. So glad I was able to read this as an e-galley. The artwork and the storyline were fantastic. Storyline was fast paced.
I got an ARC of this book.
I told myself no more ARCs until I can get caught up. Then I see this. I love this series. It is so brutal and gorgeous. I need more Slaughter/slaughter.
The art is just breathtaking. The monsters. The violence. The raw emotions. Everything is just perfect when it comes to how this looks. I will forever be in awe of the horror aspects of this series. The monster in this one is exactly how I would sell this story. The full page spread of the Duplicitype was jaw dropping.
The story was intense. In true Slaughter fashion, Erica has left some open doors and unanswered questions. I want to know exactly what happened. Only if it hurts her, will I get to know. I never want Erica to hurt again, but I also live for the pain that she lives. It is so hard to see the character slowly break when she is already so broken. The depth of her brokenness has clearly not been explored yet. I can't wait to see how far down it goes. Just add in poisoning and another broken promise to her list of regrets.
I can't wait for the next arc.
Note: I received access to read this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This volume felt like very little happened. There are vapid conversations of posturing and wallowing and then everyone goes to a place and does a thing that's exciting. The pacing is good but it's starting to feel schlocky.
This series is just plain fun. It’s like stranger things x supernatural but make Dean a girl and add in a ton more lore.
The art style is also incredible and super engaging
I was all in for this volume. It was such a nice end to Erica's stay in Tribulation. I cannot wait to see what happens next and what kind of villains Tynion will show us. Cutter was such an interesting character. She is the complete opposite of Erica: cruel, menacing, and crazy. I wanted Erica to kill her but at the same time I wanted her to stay around. She was such a compelling character to watch even while doing things I hated to see her do.
The artwork is still interesting to look at. I love the eyes for Erica. They're so green and crazy that you can't help but keep staring at them though you know you shouldn't. Dell'Edera's art is wonky and bizarre which makes me want to keep staring almost like a car crash.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this Arc of Something is Killing the Children Vol7. This is a must read for people who like well written stories with strange artwork to go with it.
I completely ate up this comic in one sitting!!! The characters are so vivid and relatable. They have scars that make you sympathize with them while rooting for them till the very end. Not to mention the fantasy world-building with the House of Slaughter and its monster hunters. Such a unique setup and execution. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a quick, action-packed read!
Horrific events continue in "Something is Killing the Children Vol. 7" as Erica and current allies try to lure out the Duplicitype, the monster wearing Erica's likeness. But of course, there isn't just one horror to reckon with as Cutter is close on Erica's trail as well. The story is engaging as ever, and the art is well suited to the story. Fans of the series will devour this latest installment and be eagerly awaiting Volume 8.
Review ARC provided by NetGalley. I read the description wrong and thought this was the final volume of Something Is Killing The Children and thank GOD IT’S NOT. Per the usual, this story is striking, beautiful, heart wrenching and makes me want to wrap Erica in my arms and rock her to sleep. #welovetrauma 10/10 as always - I would LOVE to see an animated series of this. So good.
I was a latecomer to Tynion’s series but spent the last few months catching up—and boy, do I understand the hype. Something is Killing the Children has it all: a phenomenal premise, gorgeous art, and characters that are flawed but still lovable. This is by far one of the scariest horror comics I’ve read but it also manages not to be completely hopeless. Like other readers, I was eagerly awaiting this installation in the saga and I was not disappointed with the way the Cutter arc was resolved. My only complaint is that now we have to wait for the next installment…but such are the problems with serialized narratives.
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an early copy of this book.
Edgey, gorey and mysterious. The artwork was awesome and am excited for the next novel. Recommend for anyone who likes supernatural horror
The art is beautiful, the story really took me in, and it is exactly what I expected from the series. I am happy to see consistent style and plot. At the same time, if it's really the last one, I am a little bit disappointed. I didn't feel like it was resolved or the ending was impactful in a way that I expect from a culmination of a series.
The moment I saw this one was available there was absolutely no hesitation to pick it up. I only regret now how quickly I read it as I will have an even longer wait until volume 8. James Tynion has struck again with the cliffhanger from hell, but as always, I will keep tuning in as long as Erica Slaughter continues to breathe and fight.
As expected, the art is beautiful and cohesive. The monsters are as ghastly as always and the non human ones are as well. More, more, more!
I received this DRC from NetGalley.
This was a pretty good conclusion to the story. I think the people/ monsters that needed to die did, and if it continues, I'd be curious what direction it would take.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Something is Killing the Children Volume 7 by James Tynion IV in exchange for an honest review. This is such a an interesting graphic series. I've really been enjoying reading it and hope that if they turn it into a show or movie, that it captures the essence of the graphic novels.
Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I started reading this series back in 2020 and instantly became obsessed with the storyline. I shared these graphic novels with all my library coworkers and they also became hooked!
These volumes are fast reads, dark, and leave the reader wanting more content.
To the creators: keep writing more!
First I want to say if you aren't reading Something is Killing the Children, what are you even doing with your life. This is by far the series I recommend most to people. I have every single issue, every trade, the first hardcover deluxe edition, and every mask. So is my review biases, maybe. But this is by far my favorite horror series out right now. Tynion balances horror with a fast paced story. The art is perfect for the horror aspect of the story. There are twists and turns that I did not see coming. Everyone should be reading this.
5 stars (as always)
There are few things I can say about this volume since Something is Killing the Children is one of my favourite series of all time, but man this volume was great. Great resolutions, tragic endings, more gore and Erika trying. It is another fantastic addition to the saga and I cannot wait for the next already, even though this one hasn't even come out Just keep giving us more, since I can't live without Erika now.
Thank you to NetGalley and BOOM! Studios for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Release Date: 20 February 2024
Rating: 3 stars
This is the final volume in the Something is Killing the Children graphic novel series. Back when Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 1 was released, I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of that as well, so this is a nice full-circle moment with this series for me!
For a finale, I do think this volume lacked some tension that would have really helped this series end on a high. There was an... event... (trying to be vague) toward the end that I did not expect, but apart from that this was a bit of a "meh" ending. I have a feeling that could be because a spin-off set after this is planned (there is also the prequel series House of Slaughter, Vol. 1: The Butcher's Mark that is in progress) but it doesn't change the fact this fell a bit flat. The final showdown just needed more.
The artwork by Werther Dell'Edera and colouring by Miquel Muerto was fantastic as always! The monsters they created visually are very creepy and make the story come to life.
Overall this is a great series that is different from anything else I have read. It takes the idea of the monster that lurks in the dark to a whole new level and creates a world with so many possibilities to explore in the future. I hope James Tynion IV decides to expand on this world.
