Horrific events continue in "Something is Killing the Children Vol. 7" as Erica and current allies try to lure out the Duplicitype, the monster wearing Erica's likeness. But of course, there isn't just one horror to reckon with as Cutter is close on Erica's trail as well. The story is engaging as ever, and the art is well suited to the story. Fans of the series will devour this latest installment and be eagerly awaiting Volume 8.

Review ARC provided by NetGalley. I read the description wrong and thought this was the final volume of Something Is Killing The Children and thank GOD IT’S NOT. Per the usual, this story is striking, beautiful, heart wrenching and makes me want to wrap Erica in my arms and rock her to sleep. #welovetrauma 10/10 as always - I would LOVE to see an animated series of this. So good.

I was a latecomer to Tynion’s series but spent the last few months catching up—and boy, do I understand the hype. Something is Killing the Children has it all: a phenomenal premise, gorgeous art, and characters that are flawed but still lovable. This is by far one of the scariest horror comics I’ve read but it also manages not to be completely hopeless. Like other readers, I was eagerly awaiting this installation in the saga and I was not disappointed with the way the Cutter arc was resolved. My only complaint is that now we have to wait for the next installment…but such are the problems with serialized narratives.

Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for an early copy of this book.

Edgey, gorey and mysterious. The artwork was awesome and am excited for the next novel. Recommend for anyone who likes supernatural horror

The art is beautiful, the story really took me in, and it is exactly what I expected from the series. I am happy to see consistent style and plot. At the same time, if it's really the last one, I am a little bit disappointed. I didn't feel like it was resolved or the ending was impactful in a way that I expect from a culmination of a series.

The moment I saw this one was available there was absolutely no hesitation to pick it up. I only regret now how quickly I read it as I will have an even longer wait until volume 8. James Tynion has struck again with the cliffhanger from hell, but as always, I will keep tuning in as long as Erica Slaughter continues to breathe and fight.

As expected, the art is beautiful and cohesive. The monsters are as ghastly as always and the non human ones are as well. More, more, more!

I received this DRC from NetGalley.

This was a pretty good conclusion to the story. I think the people/ monsters that needed to die did, and if it continues, I'd be curious what direction it would take.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Something is Killing the Children Volume 7 by James Tynion IV in exchange for an honest review. This is such a an interesting graphic series. I've really been enjoying reading it and hope that if they turn it into a show or movie, that it captures the essence of the graphic novels.

Received a digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.

I started reading this series back in 2020 and instantly became obsessed with the storyline. I shared these graphic novels with all my library coworkers and they also became hooked!

These volumes are fast reads, dark, and leave the reader wanting more content.

To the creators: keep writing more!

First I want to say if you aren't reading Something is Killing the Children, what are you even doing with your life. This is by far the series I recommend most to people. I have every single issue, every trade, the first hardcover deluxe edition, and every mask. So is my review biases, maybe. But this is by far my favorite horror series out right now. Tynion balances horror with a fast paced story. The art is perfect for the horror aspect of the story. There are twists and turns that I did not see coming. Everyone should be reading this.

5 stars (as always)

There are few things I can say about this volume since Something is Killing the Children is one of my favourite series of all time, but man this volume was great. Great resolutions, tragic endings, more gore and Erika trying. It is another fantastic addition to the saga and I cannot wait for the next already, even though this one hasn't even come out Just keep giving us more, since I can't live without Erika now.

Thank you to NetGalley and BOOM! Studios for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Release Date: 20 February 2024
Rating: 3 stars

This is the final volume in the Something is Killing the Children graphic novel series. Back when Something is Killing the Children, Vol. 1 was released, I was lucky enough to receive an eARC of that as well, so this is a nice full-circle moment with this series for me!

For a finale, I do think this volume lacked some tension that would have really helped this series end on a high. There was an... event... (trying to be vague) toward the end that I did not expect, but apart from that this was a bit of a "meh" ending. I have a feeling that could be because a spin-off set after this is planned (there is also the prequel series House of Slaughter, Vol. 1: The Butcher's Mark that is in progress) but it doesn't change the fact this fell a bit flat. The final showdown just needed more.

The artwork by Werther Dell'Edera and colouring by Miquel Muerto was fantastic as always! The monsters they created visually are very creepy and make the story come to life.

Overall this is a great series that is different from anything else I have read. It takes the idea of the monster that lurks in the dark to a whole new level and creates a world with so many possibilities to explore in the future. I hope James Tynion IV decides to expand on this world.

Finally, we are at the end of the Tribulation installment and this was such an intense ending. I despised Cutter until the very end. I was so glad to see her get the ending that she did. I'm still on the fence on how to feel about Cecilia and would be interested in exploring her relationship with Erika more in further installments. I am also so intrigued to see what becomes of Riqui and if she actually goes out on a quest to track Erika down and seek the revenge that she proclaimed at the end of this volume. There have been, obviously, a lot of deaths in this series and the deaths that happen in this volume, while really sad, did not hit me as hard as some of the others we've experienced.

So I guess this isn’t really the final chapter? The ending was ambiguous and left open the possibility of it continuing later. In any case, I love the series and I hope that it is continued in some way - even if it isn’t told through Erica Slaughter’s POV.

I was a reluctant convert to the world of Something is Killing the Children. But now that I am I am so immersed in this world I never want to leave. Butchers, Slaughters, all of them, I'm in. This volume finally ends the Tribulation arc, and while I'm one of those people saying "about time" because we have literally been in New Mexico since May of 2022, twelve issues ago, I'm glad they took there time because this wouldn't have packed such a punch otherwise. The Duplicitype is destroyed at a heavy emotional cost, but in the end, it's the human, Cutter, who proved to be far more dangerous. This was a perfect ending. And yet, I can't wait to see what happens next. More!

Free eARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher for review purposes

I was so delighted to get an advanced copy of this- I have thoroughly enjoyed each installment of Something Is Killing the Children. I love the plotline, the characters, the art style, and how dark and violent it is. This is not the final volume of the series- it ends with a to be continued- but it does wrap up the Cutter/Erica/Duplicitype that looks like Erica storyline, quite satisfyingly.

Overall, this is a great next entry in one of my favorite comic series and I can't wait for more to come!

Ok, so without giving any spoilers, I'll say that I was all in for this volume. I'm thrilled beyond words at the ending and can't wait to see what the next arc of Erica's story brings us.
And I'm sure I've said it before, but I really enjoyed Cutter as the villain, so here's hoping Tynion can keep that level of menace going strong as the story moves forward.

I highly recommend that people pick up the first one and read this series straight through. The ideas are unique and the illustrations are dark and beautiful.
The consequences are real, and the stakes are high. This final installment is focused on confrontation, but honestly, I hope there are more stories in this world.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this ARC

The hits keep coming. Both definitions. I love this series so much.

Seven volumes in and there's no stopping this title. It still has all the tension, creepiness, and heart of volume 1.

In the latest chapter of Something is Killing the Children, after Erica Slaughter has stolen her "dolly," an even crazier than before Charlotte Cutter has unleashed her plan to finally kill Erica, and the old Dragon is fine with whatever the outcome will be. While Cutter tracks her down, a Duplicitype monster bearing Erica's visage is also on her trail. With no choice but to use Gabi as a lure, Erica prepares for what may be a final showdown versus the creature and Cutter.
The issues within this graphic novel contain some of the best story line of the title. Tynion's fantastic and unique writing along with the slightly bizarre and abstract artwork continue to produce the most intriguing and best comic book title out there today. I love this book.
