Thought provoking, full of food for thought: a book that brings you back to the beginning and makes you think about what it meant and what changed.
Highly recommended regardless if you are new or a seasoned pratictioner.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
A well written book that really delves into the processes and rituals of initiations - a fascinating read.
This book explores the power of initiation rituals in witchcraft. It offers both theoretical and practical guidance for those seeking deeper spiritual growth. Aimed at those with some experience of witchcraft (which I don’t have), it nevertheless held my interest and I learnt some interesting things from the book.
Transformative Initiation for Witches by Frater Barrabbas is going to be an instant addition to my coven book collection. This title while excellent for solitary workers seeking inner transformation and initiation is still an excellent literary addition to the tools of group learning and teaching collections. I hope to continue reading books by this author in the future.
*this title does explore the use of scripted initiation rituals and rites such as those used in Wicca and by the Masons.
Thank you, Crossed Crow Books, for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own: This book explores the often shrouded world of initiation, revealing the deeper meanings behind scripted ceremonies and their connections to the tarot's Major Arcana.
For those interested in the mystical and transformative aspects of Witchcraft, this book serves as both a historical account and a practical guide. Its thorough exploration of initiation rituals, coupled with innovative practices and the integration of tarot symbolism, makes it a valuable resource for practitioners and students alike. The promise of mastering the art of inner change is an enticing prospect, and this book provides a comprehensive roadmap for those ready to embark on this transformative journey. I recommend this book!
An interesting read for anyone wanting to learn more about initiations within covens and the history of the past covens and how the people were initiated
This book is very esoteric but well researched. Even though I didn’t know anything about the topic I still found myself very interested and invested.
"Transformative Initiation for Witches" by Frater Barrabbas, slated for publication on August 20, 2024, is a profound and enlightening exploration of initiation practices within witchcraft. As someone who has previously delved into the author's work, I can attest to Frater Barrabbas's extensive knowledge and expertise, particularly given his roles as the co-founder of the Order of the Gnostic Star and his esteemed position as an elder and lineage holder in the Alexandrian tradition of witchcraft.
In this compelling book, Barrabbas provides readers with invaluable insights into the significance of initiation from an inner and outer perspective. Drawing from his deep understanding of esoteric traditions, the author offers a balanced and idealistic approach to the transformative power of initiation rituals.
One of the book's most notable features is its exploration of traditional scripted initiations within witchcraft and their connections to Masonic initiations. However, Barrabbas doesn't merely dwell on existing practices; he introduces innovative concepts such as the periodic dedication rite, the third-degree ordeal, and self-initiation rituals based on the four elements. Additionally, he sheds light on the elusive fourth and fifth degrees and the initiation mysteries of a Witchcraft inner order.
What sets this book apart is its empowering nature. Barrabbas empowers readers to take control of their spiritual evolution by providing tools and techniques for designing, writing, and performing initiation rituals. Through these practices, individuals can navigate their inner cycles of transformation and master the art of inner change for themselves and their students if they are teachers.
Furthermore, "Transformative Initiation for Witches" grants readers unprecedented access to psychic transformation and initiation powers. Following the rituals and practices outlined in this book, practitioners can tap into their innate potential and harness the energies necessary for profound spiritual growth and enlightenment.
In conclusion, "Transformative Initiation for Witches" is a must-read for anyone serious about their occult practices. Frater Barrabbas's erudite exploration of initiation rituals offers a roadmap for personal and collective evolution, empowering readers to embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation.
I am grateful to NetGalley and Crossed Crow Books for providing me with an e-book ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I found this book intriguing. I have had many men in my family that were Masons and having this book touch upon rituals and Masons was most interesting to me. Barrabbas always captures me from the start and doesn’t release his hold until the very end.
This interesting book will be a great boost to your occult practices. It will explain you why intitiation matters from an "inner and outer point of view". It is a very balanced and idealistic approach (but that is almost never case in reality). Just in a few places, smaller parts of the teachings are kinda "rigid" in approach. If you're in this particular and complete system of magic (or you just read for the sake of curiosity), then this advanced text about initiation and tarot is surely recommended. Some advice, read in this order about this system:
Mastering the Art of Witchcraft, Spirit Conjuring for Witches, Elemental Powers for Witches, Talismanic Magic for Witches, Sacramental Theurgy for Witches, Transformative Initiation for Witches, and titles Disciple's Guide to Ritual Magick, Mastering the Art of Ritual Magick and Magical Qabalah for Beginners you can read as you like. Thanks.
Initiation I'd defined as the.rites by which one is made The member of a sect or society or is invested with a particular function or status. The first half of this detsiled and erudite book will explore the traditonal rituals and practices for initiation into witchcraft as the nontradtonal ones. The second part will introduce the Hero's Journey (Joseph Campbell) and discusses how it relates to the stages of psychic transformation. Illustrations. Footnotes. Bibliography. Index.
