I didn't like this as much as LEF's previous adult thriller, but this was solid. I liked the wine-making info and I thought June was compelling. I didn't love Bev and I think the past story line might've benefited from Michelle's POV, or Camille's maybe, but overall solid.
I love Flynn’s writing so was incredibly excited to read this one. Told in alternating POVs and timelines, this is the story of two women grappling with the people they love and trying to untangle who is worthy of their love based on dark secrets in everyone’s pasts. I enjoyed spending time with both Bev and June, especially in the Napa setting. The descriptions of the wine making process and the vineyards were incredible. Bev’s feelings on motherhood were incredibly relatable, and I felt for June as she tried to untangle what had happened to her first husband. The twists at the end were ones I did NOT see coming. 5 stars!
Unfortunately, I had a lot of issues with this. The synopsis was enticing: a woman's husband supposedly drowns and she suspects foul play. I don't want to spoil the plot with specifics but I felt like the few "twists" were contrived and implausible. The ending especially had a lot of strange things going on. At the same time, part of the plot was left unresolved. This was not my favorite.
At the start of the book, the story unfolds slowly with two narrators in different times. June, who runs a wine pub and lost her husband, Josh, sees a man who looks like him, leading her to secrets at a winery. In another timeline, we meet Bev, Josh’s mother, dealing with family issues and a troubled marriage.
The plot switches between June and Bev, revealing hidden truths that shape their lives. As the story progresses, shocking discoveries come to light, changing how we see the characters and events.
Though Bev's marital struggles may be familiar to many, June's journey towards a new beginning makes her a more relatable character. This mix of women’s fiction, family drama, and mystery weaves together an engaging tale.
June is finally ready to move forward with her life after ten years of mourning Josh, lost one week into their marriage. As she prepares to settle down with her new love she starts once again seeing Josh everywhere. He's watching her as she takes engagement pictures in Central Park, peering into her wine bar in Brooklyn, alive and well on a website for a vineyard in the Napa Valley. Unable to tell any of her friends or family, as they'll think she's having another breakdown, June takes off for Napa knowing she has to find out the truth before she can really move on with her life. Once there she opens a much bigger can of worms that she could ever imagine.
It frustrates me when you read a book and really enjoy most of the book and then the ending is just tooooo far out to left field for you to be happy about it and then you feelings about the whole book change. This wasn't a bad book, but the ending. Bleh. Just didn't make it work for me at all. Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
My first Laurie Elizabeth Flynn novel but wow not my last. This was action packed and filled with characters I either love or love to hate. It felt like a ping pong match with my head spinning with direction changes. I never knew who to trust. The whole story was exhilarating. Totally enjoyed it.
Thank you NetGalley, Laurie Elizabeth Flynn and Simon and Schuster for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Told from multiple perspectives and in flashbacks, a woman on the cusp of marriage thinks she's sees her first husband who died a decade ago. She embarks on a journey to discover what really happened and if he's still alive.
June, an organic wine pub owner , has recently become engaged when she seesa man resembling her dead
husband. As his body was never found, she is determined to track down the man she saw. Flashbacks introduce
Bev, the mother of her deceased husband, family life and secrets. Finding out what actually happened to the

Wow this was so immersive! I was flipping the pages to find out what happened. Great mystery to take to the beach this summer!
This was a really solid read, built on a lot of then, and now with dual perspectives throughout the entire book. This definitely had more of a slow burn and anticipatory build to the very end. I did find the end, satisfying, but I felt that the middle of the book dragged along a bit too slow for my liking. However, I found that this was written incredibly well, and the characters were so well developed!
Another great tale from Laurie Elizabeth Flynn! Till Death Do Us Part is a domestic drama/mystery set in atmospheric Napa Valley told in multiple POV and timelines. I loved reading about wine making and the plot was great. Complicated family relationships and secrets drive the story. Some of the characters were complex and rich, but some were a little one dimensional. That would be my one critic. Overall, a winner! A great summer read! Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty.
At first I was confused by the different characters and timelines. However, I stuck with it because I really wanted to know what happened to the first husband. .
June met the love of her life and wiring 6 months they were married. But then within one week after that he was dead. It’s taken June 10 years to be able to settle down and want to marry someone else, even though she still thinks of her husband, Josh, often. Then she is sure she sees him watching her. Is he really dead?
This was great premise for a book but did move pretty slow for the first half. After the first half I didn’t want to put it down.
The book is told from dual POVs and dual timelines. And while I did like that, I wasn’t very fond of the characters, especially the mother-in-law. I did like her addition to Josh’s teen years, but her side story didn’t feel like it added to the story and honestly made her so unlikeable.
There were a decent amount of twists in this story, some I had no idea of at all until they were revealed. Although there were a few things that didn’t get resolved that I wish would have. I do feel that this book falls more into the genre of a domestic suspense with some mystery elements, not a thriller.
Overall I did enjoy it, but felt some things could have been executed better. It also made me really want to go to Napa and try natural wine, which I didn’t even know was a thing!
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the advanced copy of this book!
Till Death Do Us Part got me out of my reading funk. Read this if you want a fast paced suspense. This book was captivating and takes you on a wild ride. I loved the different timelines and the way the author gave just enough information to keep me engaged and wanting more. A dead husband showing back up a decade later?!? It can't be true right?! Right?! Find out what happened the morning June's husband "drowned". I give this 4 stars! I enjoyed it. Out August 13!
Read this if you like:
-2 different timelines
-Suspense
-Liane Moriarty
-Napa Valley/Wine settings
This was one of my favorite books of the year! June is still mourning the loss of her husband, who we meet through flashback chapters. He disappeared mysteriously one day, and no one knows what really happened to him. June hopes that maybe he's still out there somewhere, and when she swears she sees him--as she often does--she decides to get to the bottom of what's happening. June's chapters are interspersed with Bev's, who we do not not how they are related. Bev works at a winery and is having an affair with a woman from her past, dissatisfied with her relationship with her husband, who she believes is cheating on her (and kicks out). These two stories intertwine and explode. I read this book super fast, trying to sort out what was really happening. I highly recommend!
This was a frustrating book to read. There were too many stories going on (some seemed wholly unnecessary) and too many people keeping secrets. And making stupid decisions. If I wasn't curious as to how it would end, I probably would have given up halfway through. But I stuck it out to the rather disappointing end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
oof. this book really was good at first, meh in the middle and then downright frustrating at the end. i cannot think of a more chaotic, unrealistic ending. let me preface by saying the actual writing was good. the storytelling the author gave was fine. but the characters and the actual story were not for me. i found no redeemable characters throughout the whole story. they all were bad people except for camille, kiernan (he was literally an infant/toddler so that’s not saying much) and josh’s girlfriends. the rest of them really were not good to the point that i didn’t want any of them to win and have a good ending. it’s really hard to enjoy a story when all the characters suck.
the back and forth between the two povs was so confusing and i found myself having to remind myself which timeline i was in. it was too much. i enjoyed the thriller aspect but the ending was so unbelievable and ruined it for me. i felt that the story could have become more of a concise ending that made more sense, but it fell flat with too much going on.
not to mention, what tf happened to michelle? like we’ll never know. i hate that. the twists had me at first but there were too many twists and turns. sometimes simple is better and it doesn’t have to be so complicated. i wish i liked this more.
Ten years ago, June's husband Josh disappeared while swimming shortly after they were married. He was quickly declared dead but June always had her doubts. Now, she is newly engaged and finally moving on when she spots a man who is the spitting image of Josh. After some digging, she finds the mysterious man owns a winery in Napa Valley, the same area Josh grew up in. June heads there, knowing this is one mystery she must solve.
I loved this book! Here's what stood out:
The mystery: I felt that the pace of this book, and the mystery, were well done. Just when I thought I had a handle on what was going on, something new crept up and threw a wrench into all of my theories.
June: I really liked her character. She is likable and I wanted her to succeed and figure everything out. I felt for her when she was so stressed out and confused. I found myself understand so many of her decisions. She was a great FMC.
The structure: the book is told in sections, the POV's going back and forth between June in the present and Bev--Josh's mother--in the past. This worked really well with the story. I found myself invested in both of their stories.
Overall, this was a good domestic thriller that will keep you guessing.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy!
Special thanks to NetGalley, Laurie Elizabeth Flynn, and Simon & Schuster Publishing for this arc out August 13,2024!
We start off meeting June, who is mourning the loss of her husband Josh. After a quick elopement, a week of marital bliss, he is declared dead. As we navigate her story line, we swap to the past with Bev, to learn about her life. Bev is Josh’s mom, so we get a glimpse into the start of his life and adulthood.
June never really understood how they declared her husband dead…. They say he drowned but his last text message to her just didn’t make sense. As she struggles with grief, she has this maddening thought that he’s truly not gone. She sees him out in places, in pictures, at her work. But is it her mind playing tricks on her? At moments in the book when she thought she saw her husband, I felt for her. I can’t imagine grieving someone you loved so much, only to have your mind mess with you even more.
Bev… she was an interesting character. I don’t know that I liked her from the start, yet my heart hurt for her too at times. She didn’t have the easiest life either, coming from a broken home and trying her best ( or maybe not her best ) to not make the same mistakes in her relationship.
As both stories came closer and closer together, I found myself trying to guess the final pieces. One hunch was right, one was wrong, and although I didn’t feel the intense thriller vibe in this novel, I really did enjoy the mystery and pull it had. It kept me on the edge the entire time, and I flew through it!
Would definitely recommend!
