Till Death Do Us Part is a thrilling novel that deals with trying to move on and accepting love after a tragic loss. June's husband drowned while they were on their honeymoon and she never believed it was just an accident. While Convinced that the last text he sent could not have come from Josh she never received the closure she needed which made it hard to fully move. 10 years later she is engaged to another man and when she sees a man who looks exactly like her deceased husband it sends her spiraling trying to figure out the truth. Is Josh still alive? What really happened 10 years ago?
This story is told in alternating timelines and a dual POV. You learn about June in the current timeline and her desperation to uncover the truth, and you hear Bev's (Josh's mother) story told from over 20 years prior. While I was not as engaged with Bev's story it is very important to the entirety of the book. You learn a lot about Bev and the secrets within her own life along with learning about Josh and what he was like as a teenager. The author did a good job at pacing the details throughout the book to keep you engaged the entire time. The second half of the book really picked up pace and had twists that had my jaw on the floor.
As lies and secrets start to unfold June becomes more and more convinced that Josh's death was not an accident. She is determined to find the closure she needs no matter the cost. She has found love again with Kyle and he has been loving and patient and accepting with her, however she can not marry him until she puts this to rest and proves her sightings were not just hallucinations fed by guilt.
I had many theories throughout the book and I was wrong on all of them. I truly did not see the ending coming. While I was not 100% satisfied with the ending as there were still some things that were left unanswered, I did thoroughly enjoy this book. I feel like I was still left with some lingering questions of what really happened with a couple of things in the past which is the only reason I di not give it 5 stars.
Pour yourself a glass of wine and immerse yourself into a suspenseful novel set in Napa Valley. This book with thrill you with twists and turns while also diving into the world of wine making and the secrets that lie within.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the sharing this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is a well written story that kept my attention right from the beginning. I enjoyed the story but there were some loose ends that were never really answered. The dual timelines got a bit confusing but this seems to be the norm these days. The characters were fully developed which moved the story along. The ending was a little bit of a let down. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4.
This was really good! I was sucked in immediately and didn't want to put this book down. The dual time lines were really interesting and the characters were fleshed out so well. My only complaint is that not every loose thread was tied up in the end, and that bothers me in the end. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this thriller!
Thank you to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for my ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I quite enjoyed this. The timelines were a little confusing for me, but I got over it quickly. There were several unexpected twists, which were much appreciated. One of the twists for me was a total dud, but I won't spoil the fun. All in all, this was a pretty good read, and I would read more from the author.
I really enjoyed the wine terminology and knowledge which was sprinkled throughout the book.
I received a complimentary copy of the novel from the publisher and NetGalley, and my review is being given freely.
When oh when is somebody going to allow reviewers to choose half or quarter stars? It can't be that difficult, and would allow for a much more precise rating.
THis book was sooo slow to get into and the dual timelines were so confusing to me. Sadly i didnt care for this book as much as the reviews hyped it up to be.
What a terrific book! Sure to be a hit.. I can see this as a Netflix series in a heartbeat. Read it in two sittings. Loved the vineyard settings and the descriptions of the wines and their cultivation. The plot is intricate and at times confusing but that only added to the suspense. The author creates some terrific characters and the “twinning” theme is inventive and very clever. This novel is headed for success… I loved it!
I loved Flynn's previous book, The Girls Are All So Nice Here, so I jumped on the chance to read this. Unfortunately, it didn't blow me away. This was a slow-burn mystery that seemed to focus more on wine than anything else. While I appreciate the author's research and detailed descriptions of the wine making process, I didn't feel like it was necessary or relevant to the story. It actually pulled me away from the drama and made the story drag and become boring at times. I ended up skimming through these parts as they became highly redundant. The ending was interesting and a little surprising. There were a few twists that I didn't see coming, but they weren't OMG/WTF inspiring. I have to admit to being confused about Bev's POV. She wasn't mentioned at all in the synopsis and half of the story was told from her perspective. It took a while for me to grasp why we needed her contribution to the story. Overall, the book was very well written, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have liked. I would still recommend to others, ESPECIALLY if you like learning all about wine!
Thank you to the author, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for granting me digital access in exchange for my honest review!
Wow, this book had me on edge the entire time. I'm a sucker for dual timelines and this one was well-executed. I had no idea what happened to Josh and the author did a great job at throwing the reader off and keeping me guessing the whole time. The ending truly took me by surprise and was extremely well-done! Would recommend! Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this exciting ARC!
~LISTEN~ as I say constantly, I'm here for a good time and if I'm entertained, that's really all I'm asking for. I haven't read a ton of twisting mystery books lately, and this one was paced so well – it felt like there was more than one big reveal, and they were appropriately spread throughout the story to keep it engaging. I agree with other reviewers that at the beginning, it takes a bit to get invested in the dual POVs, but once the connection between characters is made, things really stay moving.
Started and finished in a single sitting, which is always a good sign! This will be the perfect vacation read.
There were definitely twists and turns. I still feel like there were some holes missing in the plot but overall, it was really good and I really empathized with the characters.
I’m so grateful to the author & publisher for this ARC. With that said let’s get into the nitty gritty!
This book was sooo good. I enjoyed the transition and inclusion of past and present in the book.
✨Thriller✨
So this book was about a girl June who at a young age sadly became a widow. She holds many suspicions in all the surrounding events but no one seems to listen. Well fast forward about 10 years later and she meets this wonderfully sweet man. He proposes and they begin to plan a wedding. While she is having engagement photos taken she believes she spots her deceased husband.
The book goes between the POV of the main character and her mother in law which adds a very interesting dynamic to the book.
The shock factor of this book was off the charts and I truly enjoyed how it threw me for a loop. It was not all what I was expecting.
Definitely some triggers so check yours.
Great thriller id 100% recommend.
4 stars out of 5
This book was full of shocking twists and turns throughout the book. I had trouble putting this book down, it immediately draws you into the story. I think the duel POV's in this book work really well with telling the story and gives us a lot of background information. I am not sure I really like the ending though. It left me really sad and shocked at what happened. One mistake could change someones life forever. Overall, this was a fun read and I highly recommend it.
In Till Death Do Us Part, we meet June. She was once married to the love of her life, Josh, but on their honeymoon he went missing. They assumed he drowned in the ocean after he went for a swim but June thought it was something else. June eventually moved on and opened a wine bar called Grape Juice in New York. She has moved on from Josh and is engaged to her Fiancé Kyle until one day she thinks she sees Josh. This happens again and she then uncovers a picture of someone that looks exactly like Josh that owns a vineyard in Napa. June takes a trip out there to try and piece together what is going on and see if Josh is still alive.
Thank you Netgalley and Simon & Schuster for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Meh. Some unpleasant rich people doing wild things to keep their wild secrets, and adding up to an almost silly conclusion. I was extra disappointed because The Girls Are All So Nice Here is such a great book.
This book was a journey of love and grief and so many twists and turns that just had you questioning what was up and what was down. If you know what I mean. I really enjoyed this book. It was a lot of fun reading this book. I felt like I was submerged within the book.
“In vino veritas. In wine, there is truth” - Pliny the Elder
Not only is this book literary perfection but it could also serve as guide for wine lovers.
I’ve been a fan of Laurie Elizabeth Flynn since The Girls Are All So Nice Here, fell into my lap. I feel as though I had been patient enough waiting for the next release but I was starting to get ants in my pants.
Then it came…
A thriller that takes place in Napa? It’s as though Flynn had me in mind when she started creating this masterpiece.
I love wine
Just not as much as I loved this book
Til Death Do Us Part
Family drama, motherhood, romance, suspense… every key element of a fantastic, binge worthy book that is going to blow the minds of many.
Talk about complicated characters. Flynn’s character development can not be topped. These people are incredibly real, so much so, I started referring to them by name in conversation with my husband.
There were enough twists to break my neck. Every character, Bev, June, Josh, Andrew, Kyle, Sadie and David, they all had secrets and they all intertwined to deliver one heck of a whopper ending.
This book… is EVERYTHING.
Check out this teaser :
The author of The Girls Are All So Nice Here returns with a thriller set in the vineyards of Napa Valley that asks: what happens when the husband you thought died years ago shows up alive?
Ten years ago, June’s beloved husband drowned on their honeymoon, his body never found. Now, a decade later, June is finally ready to move on. She owns a natural wine bar in Brooklyn and is engaged to a patient, supportive man named Kyle. She’s excited to finally begin a new chapter in her life and start a family.
But out of the blue, she sees him—Josh, her first husband. Is this just a hallucination from the guilt June carries about finally moving on, or is it possible that her husband never died in the first place?
June tries to forget about this vision, chalking it up to grief and nerves, but soon enough, she stumbles across a website for a winery in Napa, and the owner in the photo is identical to her dead husband. With her upcoming wedding looming and a fiancé who’s already worried she hasn’t quite left her past behind, June secretly flies to Napa for answers. But she’s not prepared for all the secrets she’s about to unlock because everything she thought she knew about her first love is a lie.
great book! i finished this in one single sitting. will def keep you on your toes. the author's writing style is very easy to follow and reader friendly.
This was a really interesting a mystery. A woman, whose husband disappears while on their on vacation in Napa, finally moves on and gets engaged to another man. Its then that she starts to have reason to believe he may be alive and sets off back to Napa for answers. A mystery full of twists I didn’t see coming. This was definitely a ln enjoyable read.
Oooohhhh, quite the delicious mystery! Poor June is just trying to move on with her life after her husband drowns but keeps coming back to the holes in the story of how it happened. She is a brave and strong woman who doesn’t let anyone get in the way of finding the answers.
Well, I truly enjoyed Laurie Elizabeth Flynn’s previous work, "The Girls Are All So Nice," which was enough of a reference for me to become intrigued by her new thriller/women’s fiction. Also, the possibility of a mystery plot involving a dead husband's return from death piqued my interest. Additionally, this book takes place in Napa, educating us a lot about wineries and the process of creating great products. That's how I was sold!
In the first third of the book, which started too slowly for my taste, the author introduced two narrators in different timelines: June, in the present time, an organic wine pub owner who lost her husband Josh in a sea accident, finally finding a second chance at romance with her fiancé Kyle to start a new family. But when she sees someone who looks like her deceased husband secretly following her, she initially thinks guilt feelings are pushing her into seeing delusions. However, when her search on the internet to find a wedding place in Napa directs her to Andrew and Sadie Smith’s family winery, she cannot believe her eyes. The man in the photo looks exactly like her deceased husband. She denies his death and the last text message he sent to her, which wasn't written in his style, seeing him in places for years. Maybe she wasn't dreaming, and her husband is still out there, alive for years. The only way to find out is to go to Napa and confront the man.
In the other timeline, we move nearly two and a half decades before to read the narration of Bev: Josh’s mother, who recently gave birth to her baby Kieran, conducting the winery with her husband David, still trying to deal with the family scandal that affected their lives and troubled her marriage. There's a hint in conversations that the scandal may be related to Josh’s relationship with a young woman, Abby. On the other hand, Bev digs out a big secret about her husband that may destroy the already fragile facade of their marriage. A person’s sudden appearance from her complex past also makes things more complicated and pushes her to reconsider her entire life choices.
We go back and forth between the narratives of these two women to uncover secrets that shape their futures. Especially in the last third, the pacing finally quickens, keeping me on my toes with so many shocking revelations that culminate in an eye-popping conclusion, causing my jaw to hit the floor. What an earth-shattering ending, or let’s just say the beginning, that may change your entire perspective about the events and characters.
I couldn’t engage much with Bev, even though her backstory was relatable to so many women who are trapped in a marriage that slowly turns into a business partnership more than an emotional bond. On the other hand, June is a more relatable character who deserves a second chance at life.
Overall, it's a well-executed women’s fiction, family drama blended with mystery, and that "WTH" ending is the cherry on top.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.
Till Death Do Us Part grapples with the reality of moving on and accepting love after unimaginable loss. June never had closure after the love of her life, Josh, mysteriously drowned on their honeymoon. Convinced he’s still alive or that there was foul play, June struggles to fully give her heart away again. Even after 10 years and an engagement to another man, she’s desperate for answers before saying ‘I do’ once more. Did Josh fake his death? If so, why?
Told in alternating timelines and a dual POV, you get an inside look at June’s desperation for the truth and a glimpse at Josh’s childhood (as told by his mother, Bev). The author does a great job of balancing the two narratives and slowly giving enough information to keep you hooked. While the backstory took some serious buildup, at about 40% in you start getting whiplash from the twists and turns that this thriller takes.
My theories evolved and changed as more answers were revealed. I will say I did not see the ending coming… at all. 😳 With that being said, the book almost had too many curveballs and didn’t completely clear up all loose ends. There were still unanswered questions that left me bothered after finishing.
As the two timelines collided, I had expectations of a mind blowing revelation, which ultimately fell somewhat flat. I questioned the believability of certain aspects.
If you’re able to suspend reality and want a rollercoaster of a read where there’s no way you’ll guess the twists, this is definitely the book for you! Pour yourself a glass of wine and hold on for a crazy ride!! 🍷🤪
