In Storm Cell, Lewis Cole returns in a who done it murder mystery to help his friend. An action-packed page turner with a few twists I didn’t see coming.
Thank you NetGalley and Severn River Publishing for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Storm Cell is the 10th mystery thriller featuring PI/fixer Lewis Cole written by Brendan DuBois. Originally released in 2017, this reformat and re-release from Severn House is not currently available for retail sale. It's worth noting that the ebook format provided for review has a has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links throughout.
This is a very well written, tensely atmospheric and very much action driven mystery thriller in a continuing series. There is a lot of courtroom action/drama, and MC Lewis Cole's friend is on trial for the murder of a local politician and philanthropist which Cole is convinced he didn't commit.
The plotting is tight and the mystery works well. There is a fair bit of continuity in the history from the earlier books as well as returning characters, so readers who are unfamiliar with the interrelationships and haven't read the earlier volumes might struggle a bit to keep them straight, otherwise it's self contained and works fine as a standalone.
Four stars, a strong series and a good read. It would make a good choice for a long binge/buddy read.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Another great Lewis Cole novel. This is a fast paced, action packed story that follows Lewis as he tries to prove the innocence of his friend Felix. If this was not difficult enough, Lewis is unemployed, financially strapped, being threatened, receiving strange phone calls, and Felix refuses to see him.
Although part of a series, this can also be read as a stand alone story.
Thank you to Brendan DuBois, Severn River Publishing and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
The Lewis Cole series is one of my favorites and by the size of his fan club and the number of recommendations on FB, Cole is a favorite of many readers. In STORM CELL, Cole must prove his friend's innocence while the clock is ticking down on Felix's life. Brendan DuBois keeps the story moving and the clues leading to some HUGE events that kept me reading long after the rest of the family was asleep.
The mystery in this book is why someone is on trial for a murder they didn't do, represented by a lawyer not only didn't choose but is doing his best to get the defendant convicted of the crime. If that doesn't float your boat, they this story won't be a compelling read. If it has just a shred of mystery, perhaps you will warm to the circumstances and potential miscarriage of justice that seems likely. I don't want to give away any more of the plot line and on balance found myself wavering back and forth between liking and not liking the story.
This was a great book. I loved every paragraph, every sentence and every word of this masterpiece! I read it in 12 hours, which is a lot for me to do! It had everything and more laid out in the novel! I sure hope There is more to come from this author! I am totally hooked!
Storm Cell is an intriguing novel replete with murders, conspiracies and a multitude of characters. The plot revolves around a trial of a man accused of murder with overwhelming evidence pointing to his guilt. Loyalty is a sub theme and a friend sets out to find the truth and help prove his friend’s innocence. Along the bumpy road there are the involvement of the FBI, an upcoming vote to allow the building of a casino, car chases and crashes, a missing lawyer and a budding romance to name a few. Everything is tied up in a surprising conclusion.
I thank NetGalley and Severn River Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to publication.
ANOTHER great Lewis Cole book! Storm Cell continues the saga after Lewis rebuilt his home with another quick, exciting story about an unsolved murder. This time someone important to Lewis is on trial and the substitute lawyer is not competent. Lewis stays true to character, using his unorthodox means, to figure out what is happening. His love interest also reappears in his life and the closing scene sets us up for more intense stories.
Thanks to NetGalley and Severn River Publishing for the opportunity to read this ARC.
First time reading this author . Very quick read. Characters were interesting. Would like to start the series from the beginning , but not necessary to enjoy the book.
Thanks NetGalley for advance copy.
Good book! In the midst of a high-stakes murder case, Lewis Cole finds himself caught between loyalty and the pursuit of justice. When Felix, Lewis Cole’s friend and a former enforcer for the Boston mob, stands accused of a brutal murder! Lewis must try to find a way to get his friend found innocent! This book had suspense, intrigue, action packed, crazy shootouts, murder, mystery, intrigue, A great who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
