OMG!!!! Thank you, thank you for allowing me to read this mind numbing novel by Amanda McKinney. This book surpassed all of my wildest expectations for it.
This was about not one, but several marriages of lies. The duplicity involved between the people in this upscale town in Texas was mind boggling. The character development was superb and I was totally unprepared for the twists in this book.
I need to find more books by this author. It would be a great book club read!
I saw a couple people I follow on GR give this book 5 stars, so I decided to request the ARC. It definitely did not disappoint. It was so addicting, and I loved the twists, even though I kind of guessed them pretty early on.
Rowan is a detective in a small Texas town. She is in a loveless marriage to Shepard, but also has romantic feelings for her detective-in-training, Kellan. However, when a woman is murdered, it takes precedence in Rowan's life. There are secrets all over the place.
We also get the point of view of Amber, a therapist that is dealing with some developmental issues for her young son. Her marriage seems to be on the rocks as well.
At first, it felt like 2 different stories going on, but I was captivated, wanting to find out how they would be woven together. A great plot with memorable characters. Entertaining until the end!
This is my first book by Amanda McKinney and I really enjoyed it. The multiple POV’s allowed me to see the full picture and yet I was still so surprised by certain things that happened. This falls under the domestic suspense category for me and it was done really well. You could feel the tension and suspicion throughout.
Thank you Net Galley and Storm Publishing for the early access!
This being my first book by Amanda McKinney, I throughly enjoyed it. It was a quick and fast paced read with lots of twist and turns. I loved being able to read different points of views of the characters throughout the book and learning more and more as the chapters went on!
My rating:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. This was an enjoyable read which kept me engaged. The story was well-paced and had interesting characters, and McKinney switched between the perspectives of different characters well.
This book was hard to put down. So many twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. A wife who is a detective begins to suspect that her husband is keeping secrets from her. What she uncovers will change both their marriage and their lives forever.
A great thriller, with lots of twists and turns which had me guessing right to the end. Rowan is a police detective who is assigned a murder case and it becomes clear that a serial killer is one the loose. Great storyline, interesting characters and more than a few surprises! Really enjoyed this novel.
I was looking forward to finishing off February with a cheeky wee domestic thriller. Erm NOPE!!! What I got instead was a police procedural with multiple POV, flashbacks, a serial killer stacking up multiple dead bodies and a mysterious little notebook from an unknown character….! YES PLEASE!!!! 🤩🤩
I hammered through this one, ducking and diving through the twists (one properly walloped me - I was like “wait, what?!”) until everything turned on its head at the end.
I love nothing more than two seemingly separate storylines weaving their way towards each other and ending up in a tangle of secrets, lies, and deceit! This book has LOTS!!!
I can totally see this being a series too.

Well. My head is SPINNING! What a wild a twisty ride that was! This book drew me in from the start, kept me engaged (and guessing!) the whole time and I never wanted it to end! I absolutely loved the writing style and the short chapters. The multiple POVs were great insight into each character and I loved the way everything and everyone tied together. Not to mention, there were multiple twists that I NEVER saw coming.
If you enjoy suspense, jealousy, lies and secrets sprinkled with murder, this one is for you!! Looking forward to reading more by this author 🤗
THANK YOU to Netgalley, Storm Publishing and the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
“I looked up, my teary eyes cold as ice. ‘ I killed Cora Granger’ “
I was hooked from the prologue and ready for the rollercoaster ride that this book delivered.
This is the first book I have read by Amanda McKinney and WOW! I absolutely loved this book. It was dark, twisty and kept me guessing and doubting everyone. I am a big fan of multiple POVs, especially in thrillers and mysteries so this was right up my alley.
Each character has so many secrets, you just never knew what was going to come in the next chapter.
I loved the detective aspect of the story, and how it combines both Rowan’s career and the domestic drama of a toxic marriage (or two!) along to make for the perfect twisty thriller. It really kept me turning the pages as quick as I could. Definitely a 5 ⭐️ read for me!
Thank you Netgalley and Storm publishing for the ARC!
A Marriage of Lies is a dual POV book that tells the story of two married women. First woman is Rowan, a detective that has a gut feeling her husband is cheating on her, the other woman is Amber, who is a therapist in her own problematic wedding.
The twists and reveals were very well done, even if I had my suspicions of what would happen it still made me want to keep reading and finding out more.
The portrayal of the psychological problems the characters had, also were very well written, you could see by Rowan's actions and even her POV the way she was due to her rough childhood.
I love multiple POVs books, it is not as common for thriller books to have multiple POVs, but I think in this book it worked, it enriched the story and characters, and gave us different perspective on the story that was enfolding.
This was my first book by Amanda Mckinney but certainly will not be the last. This book was a great easy read, I devoured it, it kept making me come back from more.
Thank you NetGalley and Storm Publishing for this Arc the above review is of my own thoughts.
Really enjoyed this book, thought I knew what direction it was going in but did not see the twists coming!! Excellent writing!
This book was easy to read and I didn’t want to put it down. Love the twists and turns!! Recommend!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Amanda McKinney, and Storm Publishing for this ARC of A Marriage of Lies.
This is the first book I have read from this author and I would definitely be interested in reading more from her. I was immediately drawn in and invested in the characters. The plot was great, relationship building was great, and it all came together in the end. I was able to see the twist coming and guessed it… but I pride myself in being able to guess the twist in most books… lol. My only complaint is that the ending felt rushed. I could have used a few more chapters of closure. Overall 4/5 stars and I would recommend this book to others.
This book was filled with so many twists and turns. I thought I had it all figured out and then another twist happened. Seeing all the different characters intertwined was awesome! Really great book.
I could not put this book down! I just had to know what was going to happen next! I read the whole book in 2 days! Loved all the twists!
Most marriages have their secrets, and even the closest of couples may choose to keep something to themselves now and then. When you are married to a skilled investigator though, lying becomes a lot more complicated - and harder to pull off...
Rowan is a detective looking into the murders of three women, and trying to deal with the possible links between them. She is also deeply suspicious of her husband for reasons of her own. If she digs deep enough, what will she find?
This was a mixed bag for me. The writing style was pretty bare, and I like a little beauty with my prose.
There are a lot of twists though, which did keep the story interesting. And Rowan is an excellent MC, so she draws the reader into the story.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- plot twists
- multiple POVs
- small town
- thriller
- detectives
If you love reading fast-paced thrillers with questionable characters and plot twists you never see coming? You need to read this!
The book begins with a prologue, set in the present, with Rowan confessing to the murder of Cora Granger. The plot is set a few weeks prior and focuses on the two POVs, Rowan, a detective, and Amber, a psychologist.
This book is unputdownable. I couldn't stop reading! Amanda has compellingly written this, with multiple POVs, flashbacks of Rowan's past, and a few therapy transcripts that don't make sense till the end. Everything was perfectly woven.
After reading the blurb, I had in mind a psychological thriller about a husband and wife. I had no idea this would be about a detective solving murders and a therapist trying to get out of her marriage. There were so many plot twists that I couldn’t see coming!
I loved the unpredictability of the characters, especially Rowan. The back-and-forth between the morality of all the characters had me hooked!
New author to me and she is great!! This book was soooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Usually “detective” stories fall flat for me; this book was SO much more than that!
Constant twists and turns and unanswered questions left me unable to put it down. It was well written, the characters had depth (particularly Rowan,) and I never knew who to trust until the very end.
Solid 4 stars!
