My kids loved this book and recipes, and I always love to find things that can help them get more interested in being in the kitchen!
This is a fun cookbook for young chefs. Filled with easy-to-follow recipes that kids can make themselves, meals range from breakfast to dessert. Each recipe has clear instructions and colourful illustrations to guide budding cooks through the process. The dishes range from classic favourites to more adventurous options. With Kids in the Kitchen, children can learn valuable cooking skills while making tasty treats.
Absolutely scrumptious! We're in the stage of our family where we're working hard on building life skills, and cooking is obviously a big one. I love having cooking facts and tips along the way and not just a recipe book. I feel this is perfect for kids.
A great first recipe book for kids. Lots of great ideas, both those that they've likely already tried and some new ideas, plus fun facts, helpful tips, and more.
Let's all be honest.. you do not need to be a kid or have a kid to enjoy this cook. It is a cookbook for dummies and those of us adults who still eat like a kid. The best part is the breakdown of measurements and basic cooking tips and skills we all should know but embarrassingly forget. Recipes are easy to follow along with and leave you feeling like maybe you could cook too. So much fun!
My 6 year old loves kid centered cookbooks! This one is very bright and colorful. Each recipe is marked with a level of difficulty, and it includes tips for kitchen safety and helpful kitchen terms. The book is broken down into categories: breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts, and even fun drinks.
Several recipes do contain lots of steps or ingredients so if you have a young child definitely make sure you are assisting them.
This had some relatively easy and kid friendly while still pushing their palates a bit. It gave some great ideas for foods to cook together as a family.

My kids absolutely loved the banana sushi and keep insisting on making it, despite it being nothing like sushi. It's probably the closest they will come to sushi in a decade. The recipes were colorful and fun for the whole family.
This is a beautiful book, that is great for sharing with your children. I love the colourful pages with easy to follow recipes that you can make and the story behind the recipe and also additional fascinating facts about regional traditions.
OMGOSH! What a wonderful little children’s cookbook! My 8 and 15 year old would love it! I wish I had a physical copy as the netgalley will disappear soon! Very easy to understand with all the right terms. I cannot praise the author enough! Thank you for this!
Very informative and interesting book. I highly write recommend it. Very educational. Very enjoyable
I am so impressed with this recipe book! I actually requested it for myself because I'm autistic and find most recipe books either don't have foods that I enjoy or have complicated recipes that make it feel like too much even though I love to cook so I've been trying out kids recipe books and I have to say this is the best one yet! So it might not have been a goal but it is absolutely disability friendly and I love that
Some specific things I liked:
- Cute introduction and sections, so colourful and eye catching without being too much
- Easy to follow guides for cooking methods, measurements, kitchen tips etc
- Good layout with each section being a different meal or food group
- Nice illustrations and images throughout
- Very easy to follow recipes, some even had diagrams, and recipes that kids will actually love with a good range. I find a lot of kids recipe books have recipes that kids would never eat, at least the kids I know, especially picky eaters but this has great choices for every meal and every preference
- Loved the inclusion of history and
quiz time and the fun facts
One of the best recipe books I've read so far, definitely going to buy this and use a lot of these recipes for myself and my family
Easy to follow recipes, bright and colourful. Great introduction with how to prepare and cut ingredients ready for cooking. Sections are well thought out too.
What a terrific cookbook for young cooks!!! I cannot wait to try these recipes with my kids.
The beginning (before the recipes even start) is so informative for the kids! The recipes are awesome! And not just simple recipes either.
I am always on the lookout for a cookbook to share with my kids and family. I was so happy to receive this as an ARC ebook. Kids in the Kitchen is amazing! I can’t say enough about how wonderful this book is. Full of vibrant and bright pictures and illustrations that definitely get your attention. The details in the book are great. They are simple to follow and understand. The author does such a great job at creating recipes, directions and information that children can follow and complete. The book includes details such as the tools you need, understanding different items like types of flour and the doneness of meats as well as measurements and how to convert liquids. Even things I never thought of needing. It also includes fun history and more throughout the book. I love the step-by-step directions and recipes with things we may not have done before Perez helps detail so we can create amazing food. We have our favorites already; Avocado Toast with Creamy Scrambled Eggs, Crunchy Beef Quesadillas, some No-Bake Favorites and Banana Sushi. The best was a Whipped Chocolate Milk we can’t get enough of. I love how the books make it easy to cook with children of all ages and get their interest started in the world of cooking and baking. We will be buying this for our home and to give as gifts to our friends. I would give a thousand stars if I could. Enjoy it with your family.
The book starts out with some helpful rules on cross contamination between meat and raw vegetables and washing your hands frequently and being safe when using knives and electric appliances.
Then a list of pantry staples such as flours, vegetables, meats, spices and other ingredients are shown so that you have enough available to start cooking.
A section on how to prepare your kitchen and have things laid out and ready is explained in detail.
These things should probably be discussed between the children and adults a few days before cooking commences.
The recipes start out with breakfast cookies, a good choice as cookies for breakfast sounds fun and the ingredients are mixed easily cooked on the stove and transferred to a baking sheet.
Cinnamon French toast is next, the ingredients are mixed together, bread is dipped into this mixture and then it is cooked on the stove.
These recipes are good, but a 8 - 10 year old needs a lot of supervision using a stove.
There are recipes for parfaits, fruit salad, tortilla roll ups and chicken lettuce wraps that require no cooking, which would be suitable for younger children.
The chicken nuggets, spaghetti and ravioli require cooking on a stove, so close supervision is recommended.
This cookbook will give your kids a good basic understanding of how to prepare and cook a meal.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. This has some great recipes for kids along with food history and tidbits.
I found this book a little disappointing, as the recipes weren't quite what I'd hoped for for my 9 year old daughter to create by herself. However, there was a really good focus on healthy eating and nutrition, and the images were inspiring.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Kids in the Kitchen is an amazing cookbook for older elementary level kids. It has great information on what’s needed in the kitchen, safety and a range of easier to more complex recipes. Though based on the kids literacy level and previous kitchen experience they might still need a lot of help with understanding the knowledge and some of the recipes.
The cookbook sections consists of breakfasts, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts, and smoothies & juices with some subsections on safety, how to, and picky eaters
Such a fun, easy to follow cookbook, perfect for getting in the kitchen with children and letting them get cooking. From the basics of prepping and how to use equipment. There are lots of amazing recipes that are easy to follow and gives you a time to cook and an easy to cook rating. Such a great addition for the kitchen!
