My Friend Tree by Dawn Casey.
Told in minimal and poetic rhyming text from folktale writer Dawn Casey, and with soft, romantic artwork by Montréal illustrator Geneviève Godbout, the story introduces a girl and a boy who grow up alongside their friend, an old oak tree. The tree is a constant presence in their lives as they play. Inspired by their shared love for their old friend, they plant a new forest, and tend to it together, finding their feelings for one another deepening and changing alongside the growing saplings. As their relationship blossoms, so too does the forest. The loving couple add three joyful children to the branches of their flourishing family tree, and the woodland thrives and grows with them – one living, loving family.
This was a lovely story for children and adults. I loved the illustrations. Very vibrant. 5*.

A cute book about a child who has a tree friend. It explores the importance of the tree. This is more basic and definitely for younger children, but still a nice message.

A cute book about having respect for trees, nature and each other. I would absolutely buy this for my child if I had one.

My Friend Tree is a very sweet book. I love the rhyming, my favourite style of children’s book when reading to my little one as really helps with her word development.

I did find some of the rhyming towards the end getting a little less flowy but I appreciated the underlying message throughout and how important trees are.

The best surprise was the ending when there is a guide to planting an acorn which I thought was a lovely touch and something fun to do with any little ones.

Visually the illustrations are very beautiful too and I loved how the tree looked when dreaming, very magical!

Cute story that would make a good read aloud around earth day or would be a great bedtime story.
