Nicholas Sparks, while having been around a while, is a fairly new author to me. When I found out this book was taking place where I live, I had to read it. I loved it. There were things that I was unhappy with (like Asheboro High School wrestlers) but overall, he book had a great depiction of Asheboro, as a whole, and I enjoyed the story line itself. Great small town vibes, loved reading about real places that are in my hometown, and enjoyed the story itself.
What an amazing, incredible story! It tugged at my heart strings and kept me reading long into the night. With two different storylines going on simultaneously it would sometimes frustrate me to switch to the other at a most pivotal point in the one person’s life. The author’s ability to paint such vivid word pictures even to the point of feeling an old man’s deepest physical pain or sorrow in life’s battles, is nothing short of incredible artistry . I am enthralled! The comparisons to the life of Job and the scriptures quoted added so much to the storyline for me, as I felt Jasper’s disappointment in God and his turning away from his lifelong faith in the midst of sorrow. Such wonderful characters and a very satisfying ending.
I absolutely would recommend this book. I was pleased that I am able to review it. Once I started I didn't want to put it down. The story line was great left you wanting a little more. For me it had everything I wanted in the book suspense and romance.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I grew up reading Nicholas Sparks novels and loved all of them. I feel like the last few have fell a little short but he is fully back with Counting Miracles. I adored this book.
Nicholas Sparks always has been and always will be one of my favorite authors. I loved the view points from different characters and the flashbacks into Jasper's life, which of course if you're a Nicholas fan, then you know his stories are known for pulling at your heart strings, and Jasper's was no exception. It was heartbreaking to learn of his tragic past. But I absolutely loved how everything came together at the end, and honestly, Arlo (Jasper's dog) stole the show for me. He was such an amazing character that played a big role. Definitely recommend this one!
Thank you so much for allowing me to read this fantastic book. I have loved Nicholas Sparks for decades! I am so happy that he wrote this book. It reminds me of the older titles that made me fall in love with his writing. If you enjoyed his earlier works then this is the book for you. This will be one of my favorites of the year! Thank you again.
I loved this one!
The characters sucked me in right from the beginning of the book and held my attention. I knew they would all collide at some point at the end but loved how they ultimately did. Cannot wait for his next book as usual.
This book simultaneously follows two plots. Tanner Hughes has been avoiding true connections most of his life. He has moved around the world for different jobs his entire life. He comes home to take care of a loved one before her death. He decides to go out and find his estranged father. This leds him to Asheboro, NC. When he reaches town, he has some car trouble that delays his travels. As luck would have it, Tanner meets Kaitlyn and her two children. While he is delayed in town, he begins to hang out with Kaitlyn and realizes that he has found a strong connection with her and her two children.
Jasper, an elderly recluse in town has had a hard life with the death of everyone in his family. He has secluded himself to the woods to live in a cabin. He remembers the good old days when his wife and children were around. He becomes interested in finding a white deer that has been sighted in a nearby national park. He sets out to try to spot the deer and keep it safe from local teenagers that are trying to poach the white deer. Jasper has an accident in the woods and is missing for several days.
Kaitlyn, who is also Jasper's doctor, realizes that Jasper is missing when his dog, Arlo, shows up on their front porch. Eventually, Tanner goes out to search for Jasper in the woods.
This book is reminder that memories can help sustain a person. The desire to find loved ones is a strong motivator to help those that feel lost in the world. Sparks has woven a story of two individuals into an unforgettable journey that leads from loss to love.
Counting Miracles by Nicholas Sparks blends two very different stories into one memorable story. It makes the reader happy that something special can come from such adversity.
Nicholas Sparks does it again. I've never picked up one of his books and not just loved. This book is no exception.
I adored the story, the characters, the setting. I felt like these people were my friends. I felt their strife, their joy and their heartbreak.
Nicholas Sparks has a way of writing a character and making you fall in love with them, and that's exactly what he did within each character of Counting Miracles.
From Tanner to Kaitlyn to Jasper to Kaitlyn's two kids...each one had their own story to tell. And you felt for them in their own way.
Tanner and Kaitlyn's romance is sweet. The quick buildup is exactly what I love and what I expected.
Jasper's story is a total tearjerker. My gosh way to rip my heartstrings! Jasper is left with nothing but memories after a horrible fire burned his house down, took the lives of his beloved wife and children. It left him with severe burns and a life of struggles moving forward. Now, he gets enjoyment out of carving wood with Kaitlyn's son and seeking a glimpse of the mysterious white albino deer.
Counting Miracles has a lot of Bible references that I really loved. While Jasper indeed questions God more than once throughout, him coming full circle with his faith at the end gives the happy ending us Nicholas Sparks readers all love to see.
This lived up to everything I was hoping for!

A truly beautiful and heart breaking story. So much to love and cry about in this wonderfully lovely book. Another must read from Nicholas Sparks.
This was a five star read for me, but I’m probably biased when it comes to Nicolas Sparks. I’ve been a fan as long as I can remember and I was thrilled to read this one. It was everything I hoped for.
Nicholas Sparks was on of the first authors I was ever introduced to. I remember leaving the library with stacks of his books, so this feels like a full circle moment to be given a copy of his latest novel. His writing will never cease to amaze me and always finds a way to pull at my heart strings. After reading the synopsis, I knew it was going to be emotional but whew did this one hit me hard. This story was slow but steady and had me wishing it would not end. I loved this was more than a romance. The way Spark's writes will always be unmatched. It always feels like coming home. (Even though that home makes me ugly cry from time to time lol). I feel like his books help find meaning in the real life events we go through everyday and leaves you with a little hope that no matter what you can make it through. Always an enjoyable time and I can't wait for his next novel.
I was curious to see what I’d think of this book as someone who hasn’t read any Nicholas Sparks in the past but has watched and loved many of his movie adaptations. I was really in the mood for something emotional and while this book kept my attention and interest, I was a little let down by the lack of deep emotional connection or any sort of surprising emotional twist.
Sparks does it again, I must say I am even more thrilled reading this book with the inclusion of a deeply troubled and spritual character. So well developed. I knew going in something Sparks wrote would make me sad behind repair, and he did it again here. Love the impact of human connection shared in this story.

It has been a while since I read a Nicholas Sparks’s book. I have read just about all of his books.
This one is a winner! It was well written and difficult to put down. Sparks is a master at storytelling. This would make a great movie!
This book focuses on three characters who meet and come together to help each other in ways they were not expecting.
Tanner Hughes is an army veteran who was raised by his grandparents. He travels to Asheboro, North Carolina in search of the father he has never met. Tanner is a man who has been unable to settle down. He meets Kaitlyn Cooper his first day in Asheboro. Kaitlyn is a divorced mom with two children. She is a doctor who Tanner thinks has a story to tell. Jasper Is an elderly man with deep faith despite the tragedies and suffering in his life. It is interesting uncovering how their lives become intertwined.
“Then I remind myself that my broken heart also means there was a time when it wasn’t broken, when my heart was light and full.”
I enjoyed the beginning and loved the feel good love story .vibes , but then the second half fell flat for me. I also found the bible scripture was overused throughout the book .
Thank you Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review
Tanner is searching for his father, a man he has never known anything about. The grandmother that raised him revealed the name of his father on her deathbed. After her passing Tanner heads to North Carolina to begin his search. It is here he meets Kaitlyn and her two children. As a grown man who has never put down roots, he is surprised at the feelings he has very quickly. Kaitlyn reciprocates, but cautiously. While finding out there stories, we also hear from the neighbor, Jasper. Jasper’s story is devastating.
I hadn’t read a Sparks book in a long time. I’m sorry for that now. He has a such a way of weaving the characters in a story in a way that makes them unforgettable. This is one I’ll think about for a long time.
Having long been a fan of Nicholas Sparks, I was eager to read his long awaited new novel. The masterful storytelling is there pulling on the heartstrings as usual. What I didn't anticipate was the gloomy atmosphere and feeling of heartache the story invokes. And there was something more juvenile about the writing that was a bit off putting. Still a great story that I would definitely recommend, it wasn't quite up to the Sparks standards. My thanks to the publisher for providing a review copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
