Counting Miracles by Nicholas Sparks was an intriguing and delightful read. I enjoyed the modern day retelling of Job alongside a love story. The importance of family and redemption was heartwarming. Overall, I enjoyed Counting Miracles very much. It was a quick, easy and heartwarming read.

This was a beautiful book. To me, this book felt different than many other Nicholas Sparks books that I have read but yet similar to other Nicholas Sparks books, if that makes sense. I loved the MFC and her relationship with her children, as well as Jasper and Tanners stories and connection to Kaitlyn’s family. Everything came together so beautifully in the end, and I felt the messages the story told were so important. I felt it was a fast paced book in the beginning and end, however the middle of the book felt much slower. While I enjoyed the middle of the book, i found it felt like a lot was being said but nothing was happening?

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this wonderful book! I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre.

When a rare albino deer has been spotted in the Uwharrie National Forest in Southwest North Carolina, an elderly man becomes obsessed with protecting the animal, putting himself in peril in Nicholas Sparks’ latest, Counting Miracles, coming out September 24. Jasper has been on his own for years, living in a cabin that borders the forest. A patient of Dr. Kaitlyn Cooper’s, he is also teaching her son how to carve.

Kaitlyn’s daughter is beside herself after a confrontation with an unwanted admirer in the parking lot of a restaurant, which distracts her as she backs out of her parking space only to crash into Tanner Hughes’ brand new reproduction 1968 Shelby GT. This leads to Tanner meeting Kaitlyn as she assures him that her insurance company will take care of his car.

Tanner is in Asheboro tracking down a possible clue to his biological father, putting off his next career move in Cameroon. However, he is immediately drawn to divorcee Kaitlyn, who offers to drive him to his hotel since his car is out of commission.

While Jasper, Kaitlyn, and Tanner seem to be on separate trajectories, they will all come together as Sparks crafts a story about love, loss, and hope, as only he can do. Nicholas Sparks, one of the world’s most beloved romance-drama writers, started his career with The Notebook in 1996, and many of his novels have been made into movies. Once again he has set his latest book in North Carolina where he lives.

My review will be posted on Goodreads starting September 19, 2024.

I would like to thank Random House, an imprint and division of Penguin Random House LLC, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective review.

This is a beautiful story about a man who finds out from his grandmother his true father’s name. He goes on a search to find his father. Along the way he finds love, family, and stability that he has never had before.

A bit of a predictable read, but I still enjoyed it.

Thank you @PRHAudio for the audiobook and Ballantine for the ebook. Something I always enjoy about Nicholas Sparks’ books is the way he intertwines different characters storylines together. I’m always curious how they’ll end up coming together. One particular character, Jasper, really had me hooked on his story. He has so much sadness in his life. Jasper makes references to Job in the Bible and unfortunately his life seems to be full of pain as well. This story actually had quite a bit of scripture references and mentions of God, which was a pleasant surprise. In the end, Nicholas Sparks reminds the reader that miracles come in ways that we least expect them.

I absolutely love nicholas sparks and always look forward to his new books. This book did not disappoint.
Jasper has had a ton of bad luck but he is a really nice man. Some people may think he looks a little scary because of a huge fire that has made his skin look a little rough. This fire took his whole family. Or so he thought.
Kaitlyn is jasper's doctor who also happens to be a good friend.
Tanner comes to town. He is orginally looking for his long lost father as he has lost what was left of his family that raised him.
An accident introduces Kaitlyn and tanner. He gets stuck in town for awhile his car is getting fixed.
They start spending more time with each other within a few weeks of him being there they are falling for each other.
Cute love story but always mixed in with some tragedy.
Thank you netgalley for this opportunity.

Let me start by saying this is one of my favorite authors. I loved this story it was gut wrenching in so many aspects. The way tanners life went was heartbreaking. The way Jaspers life went was equally if not more heartbreaking, having everything and then having nothing while people treated you differently. I despised the character Josh (that must mean he was wrote well), well also loving other characters. Overall the bounce between the two stories and how they tie together was done beautifully. I fully plan on reading this again.

Emotional......Heartfelt....Family bond read. It was, from start to finish, a 5-star read that will forever touch my heart. I will be purchasing a copy of this just like allll of the others I have of Nicholas!

Tanner Hughes was not raised by his mom but his grandparents. He wanted to follow his grandfather and become an Army Ranger. Tanner ends up in Asheboro, NC and meets a divorced doctor named Kaitlyn. He feels an instant connection with her. There is also a single mom named Jasper.

Nicholas Sparks sends you on an emotional journey. The character building is great! I was always cheering for Tanner, Jasper and Kaitlyn! Sparks books will leave the reader so emotional towards the end. And those endings, wow.

Emotional, Strong Characters, and an Easy Read!

Counting Miracles; let me count the ways I loved it. There are so many good moving parts to this story; Tanner's search for his father, Katilyn rebuilding of her life post-divorce, and Jasper's mysterious role in it all. Jasper's backstory is woven through the course of the book and when the most tragic and devastating bits are revealed it is heartbreaking. His faith journey also really spoke to me in a way other Nicholas Sparks books haven't before. I loved switching between everyone's POVS as the story progressed. The love story in this book was not the main focus for me which I did actually like. This book was more about who you are and where you come from. This was a definite 5-star read for me.

For fans of Nicholas Sparks, this is a must. For any who enjoy stories of what it means to be a family and a believer, this is a great addition to your TBR.

Thank you to @nicholassparks and @netgalley for the advanced copy.

I loved this story so much. It was moving and emotional but also not your typical Nicholas Sparks. If you are a person who says you have no regrets then you're not being honest with yourself. This book made me feel all kinds of things. I loved it from the very beginning. Thank you for the opportunity to read it early.

Tanner Hughes has spent his life abroad and traveling around. His grandmother dies and her dying words are "find where you belong." Begore his next posting abroad he travels to Asheboro NC where he meets single mom and doctor Kaitlyn Cooper.. You can guess the rest. It is a typical Nicolas Sparks plot.

Nicholas does it again with a gripping, somewhat eccentric, moving, incredible story. I am honored to have received an early copy. As someone who struggles with regrets and what if's, this spoke to my soul in a major way.

I have never once been disappointed in a Nicholas Sparks book, so I was excited to see this new book, [book:Counting Miracles|205126997], and couldn't wait to read it. Of course, I loved it!

Description:
Tanner Hughes was raised by his grandparents, following in his grandfather’s military footsteps to become an Army Ranger. His whole life has been spent abroad, and he is the proverbial rolling happiest when off on his next adventure, zero desire to settle down. But when his grandmother passes away, her last words to him are find where you belong. She also drops a bombshell, telling him the name of the father he never knew—and where to find him.

Tanner is due at his next posting soon, but his curiosity is piqued, and he sets out for Asheboro, North Carolina, to ask around. He’s been in town less than twenty-four hours when he meets Kaitlyn Cooper, a doctor and single mom. They both feel an immediate connection; Tanner knows Kaitlyn has a story to tell, and he wants to hear it. To Kaitlyn, Tanner is mysterious, exciting—and possibly leaving in just a few weeks.

Meanwhile, nearby, eighty-three-year-old Jasper lives alone in a cabin bordering a national forest. With only his old dog, Arlo, for company, he lives quietly, haunted by a tragic accident that took place decades before. When he hears rumors that a white deer has been spotted in the forest—a creature of legend that inspired his father and grandfather—he becomes obsessed with protecting the deer from poachers.

As these characters’ fates orbit closer together, none of them is expecting a miracle . . . but that may be exactly what is about to alter their futures forever.

My Thoughts:
Nicholas Sparks with stunning prose and pulls me totally into whatever story he is weaving. This one is engrossing and pulled me in at the first and never let go. Tanner makes a great hero. Kaitlyn and her children are all great characters too. I enjoyed the romance and the search for Tanner's father. My heart broke for poor Jasper - he has such a difficult, traumatic history. This book evoked many feelings and there is both joy and sorrow here. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance.

Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine through Netgalley for an advance copy.

Over the years, I have read a few Nicholas Sparks books. Are they my favorite? No. Do I like the movie version better than the books? Usually. But I am torn on this one - maybe because I wouldn't consider it a romance-y type book. I really enjoyed the character development and reading about their stories. But, Jasper's story was heart-wrenching. While it took me a hot minute to get through this book, I actually did like it. Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for giving me a digital arc of this title.

This book comes out September 24!!

This is Nicholas sparks but it is not a romance!! It is emotional and raw. It has romantic aspects but is not a romance book. There are 3 point of views- an elderly man who has had a hard life, a retired soldier visiting the small town, and a woman who is the town doctor.

It has this religious aspect to it. The elderly man’s grandfather and father were pastors so bible verses often come to his mind. I think it is fine to read if you are not religious, but more powerful if you are religious.

The book is memorable. I know I won’t forget this story.

This is one of the most heartfelt novels I’ve read in a long time. I’d admit haven’t read his recent past novels because I haven’t been in mood for any emotional mood reading for a while. I requested this eARC because the synopsis caught my attention.
First of all, I so wanted to get into details and compare them with Job in the Bible but I won’t because I refuse to do spoiler alerts. There are a lot of verses and quotes in it which I enjoyed. This isn’t in your face bible thumping. This is a quiet soul searching family setting. It alternates time period and POVs. My favorite character is Jacob happens to be my favorite.character in this novel.
This story is so well woven with complexities, heartaches, triumphs, tenderness, family,, messiness, compassion, empathy, understanding, deep wounds, and redemptions.
. For me, it was so powerful when it reached deep within me with all the emotions. And that’s a good thing especially if love has the power to heal. I’m still basking thinking of this story after finishing it last month. It’s that good.
Thank you Netgalley and Random House for letting me read this heartfelt novel. As usual, all of my reviews are purely my own opinions without any influence from any publisher.

I’d recommend this book to anyone.

Counting Miracles is a heartwarming story about being in the right place at the right time and never believing in coincidences. Tanner Hughes is an ex army ranger that was raised by his grandparents and never really settled anywhere. Some of his grandmother’s last words were to find where he belonged and also the name of his father and where to find him. Kaitlyn Cooper is a small town doctor and single mother in Asheboro, North Carolina. Her neighbor and patient, Jasper, is an elderly male who lost his family in a tragic event. Their lives cross and discoveries are made, all while “counting miracles.”

It is written from the point of view or 3 different characters (which can be confusing, but Nicholas Sparks does an amazing job at keeping them all separate). The relationship that develops between Tanner and Kaitlyn had me constantly wanting more and rooting for them. Jasper’s chapters tugged on my heart strings and constantly left me in tears.

Nicholas Sparks has always been a favorite author of mine and Counting Miracles has done nothing to change that. This book is easily a 5 star read for me and had me captivated from the very beginning.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for this free ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Has Nicholas Sparks ever written a bad book? Absolutely not! So, you don’t need my review to convince you that Counting Miracles is worth reading. This novel includes all the signature elements fans of Nicholas Sparks have come to love: a touching love story, a focus on family, and a setting on the East Coast. The final 10-15% will tug at your heartstrings, but if you know Sparks, you know to expect that emotional punch.

It's been a long time since I've read a book by Nicholas Sparks and reading this made me remember why I enjoy his books so much. At times heartwarming and at other times sad, this book runs the gamut. Having been raised by his grandparents, Tanner just goes from job to job never really settling down. His restless spirit worried his grandmother who on her deathbed finally revealed the name of his father. With just a name and a location, Tanner sets out on a mission to find him and ends up changing the entire course of his life.
Filled with an interesting assortment of characters, Counting Miracles immediately sucked me into the story. Even though I made the connection of who Tanner's father was, it didn't diminish the story at all. I still couldn't wait to see how it would all play out. I can easily see a movie being made from this book!
