Nicholas Sparks once again weaves a poignant and heartfelt narrative in Counting Miracles, a story that seamlessly blends themes of love, loss, and the quest for belonging. From the moment we meet Tanner Hughes, an Army Ranger with a restless spirit, the novel takes us on a journey filled with emotional depth and the quiet yet profound connections that can change lives.
Counting Miracles shines in its exploration of how lives can intersect in the most unexpected ways, leading to growth, healing, and—true to the title—miracles. While some aspects of the plot may feel familiar to readers of Sparks' previous works, the emotional depth and the well-drawn characters make this a compelling read. It’s a book that reminds us of the power of connection and the importance of finding our place in the world, no matter how far we’ve strayed from the path we once knew.
If you’re a fan of Nicholas Sparks or simply enjoy a heartfelt, character-driven story, Counting Miracles will not disappoint. While it may not break new ground, it delivers exactly what you’d expect from a Sparks novel—plenty of emotion, a touch of romance, and a reminder that sometimes miracles do happen.

I have been a Nicholas Sparks fan since a teen and have read and loved all of his books. I was so happy when I got approved for an arc for this one so thank you so much Random House.
Sparks has always had a way with his words and capturing so many emotions.
This story is told in three POVs. Tanner, Kaitlyn and Jasper. You will fall in love with these characters and their stories. And when it all comes together in the end.
A very heartwarming and emotional story.

Having read most all of his books, this is probably my second favorite or third favorite to A Walk to Remember and The Notebook. Amazing story, so well defined were the characters a the setting, I felt present with them. I cannot give this book any higher of a rating! Just thank you for another gift of a book!

Oh my goodness, in true Nicholas Sparks fashion, this book was so impactful and emotional, I couldn’t stop even if I had wanted to. I LOVED this book so much! It hooked me in from the very beginning and just kept me completely enthralled & captivated.

There is no Nicholas Sparks book that I will not try!! Giving this book a 3.5. Like all his books, this is an easy-to-read, heartfelt, sweet romance. Set in the mountains/forest was a nice change from the typical coastal North Carolina backdrop for Nicholas Sparks books. Not every book of the authors has a very believable story/love story, but this one definitely did which I loved! I also always love and appreciate the authors tie and inclusion of Christianity and faith into his books in some way. I read this book in a very short amount of time, it kept me engaged and was easy to read. Similar to his last 2 releases (Dreamland & The Wish), this book is written with 2 different storylines/perspectives, that eventually coincide in the end. Personally, it’s not my preference in a book, as I feel like it shorts the emotional attachment to characters and their stories.

✨ MUST READ!!!!!!
Just finished reading "Counting Miracles" by Nicholas Sparks, and I can’t stop smiling! 😊 This beautiful story isn’t just about miracles; it’s a heartwarming reminder of the power of family and connection. From the loyal bond between Jasper and his pup Arlo to Kaitlin’s nurturing spirit as a physician, every character pulls at your heartstrings in the most delightful way. And can we talk about Tanner? This is the best book I have read in a long time. Nicholas Sparks has outdone himself. Your heart falls in love with all the characters but especially Jasper. It is a book that will make you think about your life, the things that have happened in it and how a series of events can lead you to a place you never thought you would end up. I absolutely loved the biblical connections. On a scale of 1-10, I would give I would give it a 10+++++++++++++++++++++..

I feel so privileged to read an advanced copy of this book. I have read all of Nicholas Sparks previous books and was excited to get this one. I keep thinking one day I’ll read one that disappoints me, but i haven’t yet. Not only is he a master story teller, he has a way of making you feel like you know these characters. I won’t give you a synopsis of the book, but i will say it is one of my favorites he has written. NOTHING will replace my love of the Notebook.Read Counting Miracles, you will not be disappointed. #netgalley #nicholassparks

I normally can devour a Nicholas Sparks book but this one did not hold my interest. It started off with a fender bender that lead to the main character’s meeting, and I liked that but then the rest of the book just didn’t do it for me. I felt the initial story line of Tanner trying to find his father went by the wayside pretty quickly. Jasper’s story line wasn’t interesting to me and seemed out of place in the book. Not my favorite Nicholas Sparks book.

I always love a good Nicholas Sparks book. I have read many of his books. I really enjoyed Counting Miracles. This is one that definitely will make you think about your life and pull at your heartstrings. This was a very emotional story and so enjoyable. There are many life lessons in this book and you will enjoy the characters in this story. Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for letting me read the ARC.

Another great book by Nicholas Sparks. Thanks NetGalley for an ARC. This book was a bit more religious than his others but still very good. Jasper is someone that you root for and you hope that Kaitlyn and Tanner are able to stay together. The ending left the reader wanting more. I’d like to know the outcome of their story.

Another wonderful book by Nicholas Sparks. I get lost in his little towns and fall in love with his characters.
Jasper and Arlo, living their best live in the Cabin.
Kaitlyn and the kids doing their daily best and Tanner coming in to save the day.
It was a great book.

Long time reader of Nicholas Sparks books! Unfortunately, I didn’t love this one. I think cabin part of the story was just too much. It really affected me. Stranger from out of town, 3rd date of someone you just met…someone agreed to rent you the cabin for a night, and the mother of a teenage daughter agrees.
I say this while understanding that reading fiction always requires a lot of suspending your disbelief.
Apart from that section of the story, it took me a lot by the revelation at the end (that Tanner was Jasper’s grandson) to even remember who the father was in relation to the story. It almost was anticlimactic.

Thank you to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
While I was excited for this title, I found the storyline to be slow and not engaging. The writing style was also difficult to feel connected to, too much "tell" and not enough "show" for my taste.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a Nicolas sparks book. This was the perfect one to get back into his writing. This is the perfect book for those who seem to not know where they are in lost and have a sense of loneliness.

Though Counting Miracles is the title of Sparks’ latest novel, I found myself reflecting on the strong theme of family throughout this heartwarming book. First, there is Jasper and his constant companion, his dog Arlo. As the story unfolds, we find that Jasper has been injured badly in a fire in which he lost his family many years ago. Because of the scars he has, he is often shunned by those who do not know him; therefore, he keeps to himself in his cabin in the woods where he has committed himself to protect the white deer others have deemed lucky to hunt.
Next, is Kaitlin a physician who routinely conducts house calls for those in need in the community and her daughter, Casey and son, Mitch. Last is Tanner, a former military man, who is in Asheboro after the death of his grandmother, who raised him, and is looking for his birth father.
Their lives become intertwined in ways that only Nicholas Sparks can make plausible. I was rooting for each of these characters! Miracles do, indeed, happen.

*Counting Miracles* is a touching and beautifully crafted novel that interweaves the lives of three distinct characters, each on their own journey of discovery, healing, and connection.
The story begins with Tanner Hughes, an adventurous Army Ranger who has spent his life traveling and avoiding the idea of settling down. Raised by his grandparents, Tanner’s world shifts when his grandmother, on her deathbed, urges him to find where he belongs. She also reveals the identity of the father he never knew, sparking Tanner’s curiosity and leading him to Asheboro, North Carolina. There, he meets Kaitlyn Cooper, a dedicated doctor and single mother. Their instant connection hints at a deeper story, one that both intrigues and unsettles Tanner, who is accustomed to a transient lifestyle.
Kaitlyn, balancing her demanding career and motherhood, is drawn to Tanner’s mysterious and adventurous spirit. However, the looming possibility of Tanner’s departure adds a layer of urgency and uncertainty to their budding relationship.
Parallel to this, the story of Jasper, an eighty-three-year-old man living in seclusion with his loyal dog, Arlo, unfolds. Jasper is haunted by a tragic accident from his past and finds solace in the legends of the white deer, a creature that has captivated his family for generations. When rumors of the deer’s presence resurface, Jasper becomes determined to protect it from harm, leading him on a path that intersects with Tanner and Kaitlyn’s lives in unexpected ways.
Smith’s writing is poignant and evocative, capturing the essence of small-town life and the complexities of human relationships. The characters are well-developed, each grappling with their own pasts and uncertainties about the future. The novel’s exploration of themes like belonging, forgiveness, and the search for meaning is both heartfelt and inspiring.
*Counting Miracles* is a testament to the unexpected ways our lives can change and the miracles that can occur when we least expect them. It’s a story about finding one’s place in the world and the healing power of connection and love.
This novel is perfect for readers who enjoy character-driven stories with emotional depth and a touch of magic. Smith’s ability to weave together the lives of her characters into a cohesive and compelling narrative makes *Counting Miracles* a memorable and uplifting read.

This is a GREAT READ. Tanner Hughes was raised by his Mom's parents. She passed during childbirth and he never knew who his father was. He followed in his grandfather's footsteps and became an army ranger. He traveled the world. He came back home when his grandmother was very sick and before she passed she told him his father's name and where to find him. Follow Tanner on his journey to find his father. To tell you anything about his journey would be a spoiler. A MUST READ!!
