I thank you Random House Publishing Group.
Nicholas Sparks’ books just sit right with my soul. I always love the North Carolina town feel from his books and COUNTING MIRACLES is no different. I loved that the book was multigenerational. I loved hearing of Jasper’s life and how he endured the greatest of all tragedies. Meanwhile, learning more from Kaitlyn and Tanner. This was just a heartfelt story that shows even with tragedy, good things can happen that we never would’ve fathomed.
Thank you NetGalley, Random House & Nicholas Sparks for my advanced copy!
Classic Nicholas Sparks. The story line was intriguing, nice romance, and a happy ending. Who could ask for more.
Reading this really threw me back to high school in the best way possible. Nicholas Sparks was the first “adult” author I ever picked up at my local library and I quickly devoured every book published at the time. It was so nostalgic to hop back into that for a moment.
The character development in this was phenomenal. There was so much physical growth that it was palpable. The depth and emotion had me so entranced throughout the book and I absolutely couldn’t put it down.
If you’re not religious (specifically Christian), this book may not be for you as there are a good bit of biblical references throughout.
Huge Nicholas Sparks fan and have read every book but this one didn't tug my heart strings as much as previous works. I'm not a huge religious person so to me there was just too much religious talk in this book For my taste. Cute love story and finding lost family.
Let me preface this by saying it would be hard for Sparks to top The Notebook, but this book comes closer than his most recent works. I did have a bit of a time trying to get into the story (I started thinking he was recycling some points from his other works), but it eventually picked up and was a very sweet and satisfying story. If you are a fan of Nicholas Sparks you will enjoy it. If you aren't, I think you will still enjoy it. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced preview.
P.S. - I was picturing Henry Cavill as Tanner (even after I learned Alan Ritchson will play the part in the upcoming movie.
I have been a fan of Nicholas Spark from the beginning. There were certain aspects of this book I found a little unbelievable but it was still a solid read I think his fans will love.
I enjoyed this novel by Nicholas Sparks. I've read all of his titles and while this one was a bit slow, I found it adorable. I really liked how everyone was connected. Although it was predictible, it was still a great read!
I very much appreciate this book to review. I really liked the book. It was a sweet story.
Though if I’m being honest I feel like he’s written this book before. It was a bit predictable and at times cheesy. But it was a lovely story and I’m glad I read it. I appreciate how he never shys away from speaking about God in his books. I love that
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for an ARC of this incredible book!
It has been awhile since I’ve picked up a Nicholas Sparks books so I was slightly skeptical. However I was pleasantly surprised!! This book was soooo close to a 5 for me but I think it was the layout of the book that threw me off at times, but once I understood I really fell in love with the characters.
There were a few character stories, and I felt like each had some really important life lessons that made them very likable and easy to learn from. I also felt like they each had so much growth throughout the book that really drew me in.
This book touches on a lot of faith and Bible verses. I didn’t realize how much I needed this until I was reading it. This element of the book was my favorite, and I loved the parallels. Overall, I felt like this was a powerful but also light at times read. It hit so many important elements that my brain is still thinking about. I now feel like I should pick up some other NS books I might have missed out on in the past.
I loved this book! Nicholas Sparks has written a beautiful book centered around unforgettable characters and a story that is heartwarming, as well as heartbreaking at times. Tanner, a former army ranger, arrives in Asheboro in search of the father he never knew. Raised by his grandparents after the death of his mother in childbirth, his grandmother had revealed his father's last name just before she died. He meets and befriends Kaitlyn and her two children by chance, as well as their elderly neighbor Jasper. Jasper is the true heart and soul of the book. He and his dog Arlo live in a small cabin at the edge of a national forest. When he spots a rare white deer, and fears for its safety, he embarks on a dangerous quest through the forest. As he and Arlo search, he reflects on his past, and the tragedy and loss he has endured. Through these reflections, the author reveals not only Jasper's past, but his heart, soul, and beliefs. Despite all of the sorrow in his life, Jasper still has faith. Nicholas Sparks brings together the lives of these characters with some unexpected twists in this story full of life, love and hope. Thank you to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this book. The opinions of this review are my own.

Tanner Hughes' was raised by his grandparents after his mother died in childbirth. He never knew his father. He grew up in a wonderful loving home, although they moved frequently due to his grandfather being in the military. It only made sense that Tanner join the military, as well. He lived many places.-many of them being abroad. He saw and experienced many things. Some good. Some not. He never had a desire to settle in one place. One adventure to the next was his thing. Then he got news of his grandmother's poor health and he went to be with her. At the end, she wrote on a piece of paper his father's name and the name of a town. Why now, Tanner wonders. He decides to see if he can find this man. So, he heads to Asheboro, North Carolina.
Life is good for Tanner, or so he believes. He's got his dream car. And then...a teenage girl backs into it. I found it odd that she allowed him to drive her home, in her mom's vehicle. She was very shaken by the accident, but he is a MAN, and a total stranger. Who does that? Anyway, once at her house, Tanner meets her mother, Kaitlyn Cooper. Kaitlyn is a physician and a divorced mom raising two kids. She ends up inviting Tanner to go to the zoo the following day with her and her young son. That was a little far out there, as well, but I went with it. Of course, there was a 'connection' and her son took an instant liking to Tanner.
Another great character in the story is an elderly man, Jasper whose property borders forest and is within walking distance of the Cooper's home. Jasper is a good friend to Kaitlyn's son, Mitch, teaching him to carve animals from pieces of wood. Jasper was possibly my favorite character. He had so much strength. Jasper has quite the story. Heartbreaking. I loved how the author tied Jasper's life to Job's from the Bible. I, also loved how, Jasper realized God had always been there for him and he turned back to Him.
I have left out so so much of this story. You will have to read it to know more, and I hope you will.
I've never read a Nicholas Sparks book I did not like. This one was no exception. Wonderful, wonderful story. Very emotional story. Thank you, Nicholas Sparks.
I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Random House through Netgalley. I was under no obligation to write a positive review.
A wonderful story from acclaimed author NS. I blew through this book. The author deftly weaves the lives of the main characters in a way that peaks your interest. There is Tanner a man who has lived a life of service. He comes to North Carolina seeking answers and what is uncovered will warm your heart. While there he meets Kaitlynn a doctor with two young children. All in their own way seeking new beginnings for their lives. I felt so deeply for Jasper whose life closely resembles Job in the Bible. He strikes up a friendship with Kaitlynn’s son Mitch teaching him how to carve figures mainly animals from wood and they meet weekly. Jasper’s life is full of tragedy and will tear at your heart. A hopeful sweet and tender story.Ty #NetGalley for the ARC all opinions are my own.
It’s been a couple of years since I last read a Nicholas Sparks novel, but picking this up was like running into an old friend. I’ve been reading Sparks’ books since I was 13, starting with The Notebook in ‘97. He weaves different stories together so well and takes you on a journey with them. Counting Miracles was no exception.
We meet Tanner, our MMC who is searching for clues from his past and wants to find out where he comes from. He’s been in the military for years and on missions since he got out. Before he sets out on his next one, he’s led to Asheboro, North Carolina. There he encounters single mom and doctor, Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn is a strong woman who has been hurt in the past, but she cannot deny the connection and attraction she has with Tanner.
This book was emotional, romantic, and filled with plenty of hope and faith. I loved all the characters and their stories. It was a nostalgic read in many ways to me, and I loved every second of it! It was hard to put down, and it was bittersweet when I finished. I would love for this to be a movie one day!
I highly recommend this book. Thanks to @RandomHouse for the @NetGalley arc to review.
So let me start of and say this that I purchased a audiobook from audible because I has come to my attention I do better with finishing reading with audiobooks than any other kind of reading(Ebooks or physical books) as I received an arc copy of the book from NetGalley initially and while I did start the book and I enjoyed the first few chapters when I read the Ebook. I honestly just didn’t have the time to read it. So I bought the audiobook instead because I love a Nicholas Sparks book! You can never go wrong with one of his books and this is no different! One thing I love about a Sparks book is that it makes you think and feel things that you miss out on when you don’t read his books. While this one is based in North Carolina it got me thinking of all that has recently happened in NC and my heart breaks for those who lost everything and how a split second can change everything in your life good or bad. This is definitely a 5 Star read/listen
3.5 stars
This is a classic Nicholas Sparks novel. I was a pretty hard core Nicholas Sparks fan when it seemed like his books were everywhere, so reading this book felt like slipping into a well-loved sweater.
Counting Miracles takes place in a small town in North Carolina (where else?) and tells two stories in one: a rolling stone of a guy in search for answers about his past who falls for the town doctor, and a recluse old man in search of a purpose amid untold tragedy.
For a while, it seems random that we keep switching back and forth between these two stories, but by a little over the halfway mark, I could tell how they’re related, but it’s pretty nice to see how the rest of the characters figure things out.
The love story feels a little rushed at times, especially considering how random the circumstances are when the MMC and FMC meet. The third act conflict also seems a little bit forced since nothing had foreshadowed it.
The switching back and forth between the two stories can also give you a little bit of a literary whiplash, switching between a romance and a thriller, but it does add layers to what would otherwise seem like a typical small town romance.
If you are a Nicholas Sparks fan, then you won’t be disappointed by Counting Miracles.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House for sending me this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Counting Miracles is available now wherever books are sold.
This was everything that I would expect from a Nicholas Sparks book. Beautiful writing and poignant. His books just hit you and manage to stay with you.
Counting miracles had an effect on me like The Wish did. This is a book that I could reread and I rarely will ever reread a book a second time. I fell in love with Tanner and Jasper.
If you're thinking about reading this one, do yourself the favor and just read it.
